This idea came mainly from my love of how much Billy Bones respected Charles Vane and tried to save him at the end of Season 3. I started thinking about a friendship video for them at about the same time that I reached a newfound appreciation of Max and Idelle. Those ladies' faces at the hanging stole my heart. With those three bizarre relationships in mind, this video quickly fell into place. Why not create a video showcasing the various Charles + Nassau bonds? Such a video obviously also needed Jack, Anne, Flint, and Teach. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the friendships and family ties and loyalties Charles had with each of these characters.
Here's a few thoughts on each "ship":
Charles/Jack
As a general rule, whenever I vid Charles and Jack together I end up crying like a fool. I love them so much. Their friendship is truly my favorite. BroTP all the way.
Charles/Anne
They don't have a ton of one-on-one moments, but the few that they do have are powerful. They both love Jack and they have such a mutual respect for the other's pirating prowess.
Charles/Flint
Sigh, don't you just love a hate-turned-to-BFFs storyline? I do. I would've killed for more scenes of these two leading men kicking England's ass together.
Charles/Teach
Forever basking in the father/son, Mufasa/Simba angst vibes. So much fun to explore and will most likely be revisited at some point along the line. My mind wars between a Lion King crack something and a serious character study. Hmm...
Charles/Billy
My heart. Billy's fierce admiration for Charles and the subtext that Charles always wanted Billy on his crew....ARGH why didn't that get more screen time? Come on!
Charles/Max
I love whatever this is. I absolutely will revisit the complicated, tenuous alliance between these two. Their hate/power-play chemistry is fantastic and I adore the mutual understanding they had. Despite my general dislike for Max, I always enjoyed scenes between these two. Now that I understand Max better and she was upset at Vane's hanging...all aboard the Max bandwagon.
Charles/Idelle
I remember (vaguely) hating Idelle at first. Now she's one of my favorites. She didn't share many scenes with Charles, but her horrified face at his hanging and her expanding role with the resistance won my heart.
As a final note, I'm feeling lots of bittersweet feelings about Season 4 being the last. I'll most likely have to keep watching now, just to (hopefully) see them wrap up a few...things...that I'd like to see dealt with. May there be many Ranger Crew + Teach scenes and may the show finish off as strongly as possible post-Charles. Cheers to the writers and actors for giving me a show and characters that pushed my vidding creativity beyond what I ever planned, launched me into the wacky world of Tumblr, and broke my heart as only beloved things can.

Rewatching the show, so of course I'm obsessed with Charles Vane once again. His relationships with everyone are the most interesting and complicated in the show because of who he is as a person basically, and I can't get enough. I know this video is years old, but good job still, love it!
Vane...Vane didn't deserve this😭😭😭. They should make a show just about vanes history(it's 2017)
Just got caught up on this show. I knew he was going to die from unavoidable spoilers, but I never thought I'd end up liking his character. *cries forever*
I will never forgive Eleanor Guthrie for what she did to Charles Vane. I was glad when she got her's.

Yeah, Charles was my #1, a very very close second will forever be Flint himself. I have to give a nod to Jack, Bonny, Silver & even Billy ( I swear you'd get a kick out of hearing me when I started watching it and he came on the screen for the first time and I jumped up yelling and pointing at the screen "It's Percy! It's Percival!" lol, dammit Merlin)

I love your videos you make me feel everytime I watch them I was literally yelling at my phone (cause I dnt have cable lol)and crying hysterically when captain Charles vane died I just can't believe it the show isn't gonna be the same with out him and I doubt that good with him not there anymore it will be interesting to see how jack and Ann do without him

I'm pretty sure I was never happy when I saw Charles with Eleanor because the second I saw here I just knew that I knew I would not like her. Even at the start when they attempted to get you invested in her character? Nope, I wasn't having it. Sure enough you move on into the progression of Black Sails and man did I ever want to see the end of her. I mean kudos to the actress because it takes a strong actor to really sway me to want them dead so much, lol. But all that aside, thank you for sharing this. I miss his character so-so very much
When I was growing up I wanted to be the pirate. Read every book I could find. My son sent to two beautiful books on pirate history. He lives on topsail island n.c. teach and vane were both there. So vane was a real pirate.

I watched the show just this month and since the actor wasn't on it any longer, I figured he would die towards the end of the third season. He was my favourite character right from the pilot, though.
Going into the third season, I didn't know *how* he was going to die, but I was certain about two things: 1. I would be his decision and 2. it would be Eleanor's fault. Turns out, I was right about both. :(

cried my eyes out when he was hung the minute they caught him i kept begging for billy and the others to get him when they were about ta i was so happy but when vane said no to billy ended up screaming fuck that get him.
I understand the real life vane was killed and that it wanted to keep with that too but the character should have been saved.

Your video. A perfection. I had my heart beating a hundred miles an hour. It is so important to highlight all that Charles also crossed with any other somewhat secondary character, as Idelle and Max (although like you I have an aversion to Max and even if so I understand it better now, I'd hate always his character to his character that I often find an unbearable arrogance and small sessions psychologist who tired even if I gained respect for Max, this is not so with respect to Vane, but overlooked Eleanor, Max has never forgiven his betrayal Eleanor but she does it in season 3, why? Because Max was forced to betray Jack and Anne for power and Max understands, then, that this to force you to betray all those you love, and she understands better Eleanor. she understands that power, it's not so fun to it and earned my respect for that. and also to the fact that in order to come between Jack and Anne.)
This video is really perfect, shocking, heartbreaking, gorgeous, Charles at the beginning was not to be so bound to Nassau, I think he stayed on the island for Eleanor, but Nassau was the mark left by Eleanor on him as Teach says. She sent him her love for this island, and died for this island. As Eleanor was ready to die for Nassau also I think, given all she to sacrifice for this place. Casually, it's a beautiful parrallel.
I am personally happy that the season 4 be the last. The series could not last longer without Vane. And personally, I hope and pray that Eleanor understands what it lost in losing Charles. After I do not know what I would like for her fate. On the one hand, I would have loved to see her commit suicide for not granting to Teach Jack and the pleasure of the kill, it's a proud woman and I see well prefer to commit suicide rather than let someone the kill. I would like that. But otherwise, I would also like it to disappear - only, no Maxanor where Rogers / Eleanor please - and she spends her life to regret his past. That would be fine that would make me happy.
I preferred not to see where Jack Teach kill Eleanor, if not, even if I understand, my love for them would fall.

I would like to see eleanor just pack up all her money and her belongings and just leave Nassau and dont tell anyone else about her leaving or where she is going . just leave and never come back and change her whole life and identity .
+Maria Johnson Not me. I do not see Eleanor quit forever Nassau. She betrayed Max and Vane to Nassau. She takes so much to this island that I do not see nowhere else ... I'd rather she died. I would have loved to see her trapped and facing Teach and Jack but she refuses to give them the pleasure to kill her, she would kill herself. His way of saying to Teach and Jack to go to hell and win against them. And so she would find Vane and they can fight and love for eternity and it will be the ideal conclusion for a love story worthy of Shakespeare. Is my hope X)

But there are a lot of fics between eleanor and Charles and I worry about it because eleanor uses him. She is not a strong character she's weak.
