The marketing on this movie is honestly insane. The Super Show influence definitely aids the immersion.
Universal/Comcast employs a cross-platform marketing strategy, Symphony, which is how their movies are so omnipresent
I grew up watching the Mario cartoons in the early 90's, so this commercial brought me such joy
@@boosiewoosie9215Bro same, it’s wonderful.
same here you're on🍄
Yea
"Red Hill" might be a dig on Sonic. Also, the sticker on the front of the van looks like the Nintendo seal of approval
and Mushroom Planet is just
Also sonic
Very likely, since there's a Mushroom Planet right next to it, and the Sonic movies had a mushroom planet that is widely theorized to be a dig at the Mushroom Kingdom.
More like a Sonic reference, it could be mostly a Super Mario 3D World reference, red Hill sounds very similar to Bell Hill
@@Dargonhuman pretty sure it’s more of a reference to Mushroom Hill Zone From Sonic 3 and Knuckles
the sticker appears in the site
So happy that they finally referenced Super show this is going to be one of the greatest movie of all time
Ikr
The nostalgia for all our fans. Hey Paisanos! 👋
I was hoping they would reference and Im glad they did.
Yeah
Luigi also says "Mansion?" with a weird sounding question, which is very funny!
That kinda teases a Luigi's Mansion movie in the future
@@kandlel.923 that would be awesome though
@@kandlel.923 Charlie Day has stated that he would like to do a Luigi’s Mansion movie and we already know a Donkey Kong Country movie with Seth Rogen’s DK is coming after this Mario movie
@@mariomouse8265 source?
@@sptflcrw8583 the source is that they made it up
I bet this scene will come on after bowser says “now who’s gonna stop me?!!”
I can see that happening.
It's literally the perfect set up for them to do so
If its in the movie and not just an ad for marketing, then yeah, that would be a very likely place to put it. :P
I saw a video which was made because somebody thought that made sense and basically everyone agreed it was perfect
The woman is voiced by Jeannie Elias who voiced Princess Toadstool in The Super Mario Bros Super Show
That’s a cool detail
She also appeared in the episode "The Bris" of the show "Seinfeld." AKA the episode where Kramer meets the "Pigman."
Her design is reminiscent of Super Show Peach as well.
Wow really that’s amazing!
Wow! That's cool!
Imagine at the end of the movie, the theme song changes to the full thing. Including the parts they cut out, that would be so cool.
I wouldn't mind that and Do the Mario!
@@LeanBacalzo Actually, that would be rlly cool. I can lowkey that imagine for the end credits.
I'm positive they'll do it.
That would be amazing as an end credits montage scene. I hope they do it!
@@LeanBacalzo I can imagine the kids or even adults doing it
Punch Out could be a set up for a punch out movie. Think about an animated rocky-style punch out movie. Punch Out could be a location where Mac performs as a boxer in New York
And Mike Tyson gets a cameo.
I read Nintendo comics as a kid, including Punch-Out, which does take place mainly in New York, so it's definitely a nice reference at the very least!
Wasn't Mario in Punch Out on the NES?
@why r we here Yes, he was the referee.
I would love a full movie in the style of Little Mac’s SSB4 trailer.
Luck Cards street probably refers to the Toad's card mini game in Super Mario Bros 3
It's an SMB3 reference but I think it's "You got a card!" at the end of a level. I guess you might be right, though.
Tbh I thought it was the luck cards mini game from super Mario bros deluxe? But still cool place for a reference lol
@@thepowerofglitch6148 Aaah how could I forget SMB DX‽ I Love that game.
@@EthanMiguelScott still have my copy and play it from time to time. :)
You forgot how the woman is based on the lady in the Super Mario Brothers Super Show in the real life scenes. She's uncannily similar.
What lady exactly? What episode from the super show was she from?
@@tessafroese992 The first episode.
@@tessafroese992 the blonde lady where they smother her with cake
Yeah I thought that too
She's Also Voiced By Peach's VA From That Show
I feel like we've seen everything of this movie now. Foreman Spike, Luma, and the final climax/battle are the only things that's yet to be revealed.
I think Rosalina is gonna be in it bc of luma I’m just trying to figure out how they would fit her in 🤷♂️
@@Edward-vt9nd Paulina too, maybe; I mean, we've got Donkey...
@@Sephiroth144I mean, Pauline is in the official movie poster
I think this movies gonna blow your mind, hoping for references from the 1993 movie as well.
@@GexTrilogyWhen Musta missed that one
There are a couple of references that feel indirect, but something has to be there. For example, the sticker on the van's windshield looks very close to the Nintendo Seal of Quality. The map's location of Burger Castle, could easily be misread as Bowser's Castle if you aren't paying attention, and there are tons of other things on that map that look so close to a reference (Valley Peach, Red Hill instead of Bell Hill, etc) that they might as well be references.
If Green Hill is a Sonic location, then Red Hill would be the Mario equivalent? LOL
I'd bet that was Valley Beach, not Peach; it is right by the water (and the letter looks more like a B than a P)
@@crithitjace uhh, no, sadly, but It could be quite the equivalent to a show I _have_ seen, considering for I have even seen the Trees Red as well in said show. Not to mention said shows series finale is *literally* just the day after the Mario Movie's release in theaters.
Magic, anyone?
there's also Mario Land in Brooklyn above Hanafuda St
"Mouse St." probably refers to Mouser from SMB 2, the boss mouse who throws bombs. Also the lady's backsplash in her kitchen is black/white checkered tile, like the opening aesthetic in the SMB 3 title screen.
According to what I read on the site that they advertise at the end, the Mario brothers moved to Brooklyn after they got "tired of dealing with spiky bosses". Now, you'd think that refers to Bowser, but thinking about it, it probably refers to foreman Spike.
No probably about it. I bet you're spot-on.
I think I can say this for all of us, but, this trailer is an absolute nostalgia rush for sure. I can't wait to see this movie, it looks so promising.
This movie is really rocking it with the references and I love it.
On extra easter egg detail you all might have missed that I saw on a twitter post is that the voice of the Mario and Luigi's client who was filmed in this commercial was the original voice actor for Princess Toadstool in The Super Mario Bros Super Show, *Jeannie Elias.*
This will be the first movie in a while I go to see multiple times, I'm so excited!!
Yeah
the girl who called the bros to fix her sink in the commercial is voiced by the same actor who voiced princess toadstool in the Super Mario Bros. Super show
Another factoid overlooked.... the woman was voiced by Princess Toadstool from the Super Show, she's still alive.
The sticker on the windshield is based on the Nintendo seal of quality. On a car this is where your registration sticker goes.
I really hope a full version of the plumber rap remix plays during the credits
2:10 one of the locations on the map there (in the bottom right corner) is called Red Hill. I can’t help but wonder if that’s a jab at Sonic’s Green Hill, since red is the opposite of green
has to be a Sonic reference especially with Mushroom Planet being right next to it
@@newageBoundhippie given how many people are still speculating that the Mushroom Planet from the Sonic movies was a not-so-subtle jab at the Mushroom Kingdom, it's basically a given that this is Nintendo and Illumination returning fire.
I dont think so, if they ever are Gona make a Sonic reference, It would be way more obvious, perhaps red Hill is about "Bell Hill" from sm3Dw
Also,. Isnt Blue the oposite of Red?
@@jonypepperoni1735
No, Orange is the opposite of blue. Just look at a color wheel
@@camo6465 oh ok.
Also of I'm not mistaken, the mario design on the side of the van is the same mario on the back of the super Nintendo next to the customer service number, and he's holding a wrench instead of a plunger.
It's definitely retro art from that era, and the van looks like an old Famicom cart.
1:48 all youtube thumbnails:
More like Morgz's thumbnails.
Don’t forget to add the title “Mario and Luigi’s partner in crime”
@@Hussain9077 The typo in the manual for Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, right?
The voice actress of the woman was on The Super Mario Brothers Super Show. She played Princess Toadstool.
Nope
As someone who lives in the NYC Metro area, Road St is so accurate to how things are named in Queens. "I'm at 62-62 on the corner 62nd Street and 62nd Avenue across from 62nd Blvd!"
Cool!
If Punch-out was on the map and you could see mario as the referee in the game, the dot marking Punch-out is probably where the actual Punch-Out game takes place
Hyped for this movie
Another thing I noticed: The sticker on the front of the Mario Bros. van looks kind of like Isle Delfino. It's really bright and too difficult to tell for sure, but it might be a reference to that. Also the sticker's overall shape is vaguely similar to the Nintendo seal of quality, but the ribbon makes me less sure. Speaking of the ribbon, I was unable to read what it said.
There's loads more Easter eggs on the website referenced at the end of the video, including Spike and Pauline, and loads of cheeky music like Mario Kart and the GameCube start-up sound. Glorious.
I think the luck cards street is referencing the match 2 game in the mushroom houses in SMB3
I really hoped they would use that song when I first found that Mario and Luigi did have a plumbing business in the movie, so glad they did!
The mushroom planet spot on the map could be a small reference to the Sonic 1 Movie since it was the location Eggman got into at the end of the movie
That's not the same "Mushroom Planet" from Sonic 1 because that Mushroom Planet is actually based on Mushroom Hill from Sonic and Knuckles.
@@supermax9007 im Pretty sure It was meant to be a Call to Mario games, mushroom Hill zone may be an actual location in the Sonic movies, but located in the real world just like Green Hill and Top Hill.
0:46
New Mario fans: It's awesome, love the new theme song.
OG Mario Fans: *It's back, after all these years. It's back........*
Very nice finds! I love how they're just mashing everything together at this point, especially Nintendo's origins with luck cards!
You forgot to mention red hill which my guess is that it may be a reference to GREEN hill (zone) from the Sonic games made by Nintendo's rival company, SEGA. Not to mention that Mushroom planet may also be a reference to Mushroom planet from the modern Sonic movies (But that's just a guess that may be far from right. I'm just guessing at this point since they are close together).
Oh you mean the most overrated zone in Sonic history?
@@SaltyToad00 Sense it's popular now for people to always complain about it, I think it's underrated honestly...
@@beauwalker9820 I prefer Emerald Hill from Sonic 2 because to me it looks way nicer. Also, Palmtree Panic from CD is great as well.
@@SaltyToad00 this dude has a thing against Green Hill fr💀
Im not complaining tho, there are far better "Green Hill" like zones, heck even Sonic 4 Episode 2 has better first zone
@@jonypepperoni1735 I will give Green Hill this; it's better than every single Green Hill clone in the 8 bit Sonic games.
Also the entire ad is a recreation of the plumbing commercial in the beginning of the Mario World manga in Nintendo Power magazine.
Hoping they use the shows incredible outro song for the credits😂
They could do their obligatory dance party set to Do The Mario. It's almost too perfect for them to NOT do it.
I would love a game based on their Plumbing life on New York! Especially if you get to drive the van around!
On the Map I see "Red Hill" Maybe for Green hill from Sonic?
2:29 "Mushroom Planet" and "Red Hill" sound like Sonic movie references lol
The Mushroom Planet being the location in the movies that Robotnik got marooned on (Sonic is also very vocal about how much he hates this planet in the first movie)
Red Hill sounds like a parody of Green Hills (which is itself an homage to Green Hill Zone)
I cannot believe they're using the super show's theme meaning its existence is genuinely acknowledged by Nintendo! It was always a silly animated spinoff that used the SMB ip for fun but now it's being used by one of the biggest animation studios. I figured it was long shot or coincidence that the promo art used some lyrics and now knowing it's a direct reference is so reassuring how faithful they're going to be with this franchise.
I never thought I would need this information but now the time has come
As an avid fan of super show this could be a massive clue to how Mario and Luigi get to the mushroom kitchen
In a alternate version of this then song it’s said that Mario and Luigi while working on a drain that just happens to have a magical connection to the mushroom kingdom as a result get sucked in and sent there
Mushroom planet could be mushroom kingdom but also kinda a sonic reference
Other highlights:
Possible Death Stare foreshadowing???
Road St.
Flushing and Queens are also terms used with playing cards, and those areas are inside the aforementioned Hanafuda Ave. and 1889th St.
Burger Castle
Big Tower & Short City
*Ecto* Hill in Bellarose *Manor* with the aforementioned *Mansion* St. nearby, though not adjacent to it, sadly.
I gotta admit, that was a good one. I was not expecting that one hahaha.
I grew up watching the cartoon, the nostalgia level is over 9000!
The Dragon ball z reference was a nice touch 😍.
We gotta give the film producers credit. They nailed the fan service
It has never been so good until now to be a millennial in this day an age…
Now with that being said..
I want a legend of Zelda movie ❤❤
Maybe with a Ferngully type feel.
I’m just surprised that they used the Super Mario Bros Super Show opening to promote the movie as a ad for the Super Bowl. The movie might already get a 10/10 early for me ^_^
Me seeing more clips of the Mario movie makes me more hype for the movie
The lady that Mario and Luigi help is actually voiced by Jeannie Elias who voiced Princess Toadstool in the original Super Mario Bros show
This trailer is EPIC! 🤩 This trailer (and the movie in general) just makes me realize why I love Nintendo and the whole Mario universe so much. I'm so proud that I grew up playing the games and being a Nintendo fan. 🥰 I feel the same way about The Legend Of Zelda and other Nintendo franchises.
Super Mario Bros. Movie is getting better and awesome and cool too this is my favorite movie ever
Me to ❤
Agree
On the map there's a location called Red Hill, maybe it's a reference to Green Hill from Sonic but since they're rivals and it's Nintendo it's red. I don't know, maybe it's a stretch.
Firstly, the rivalry stoped decades ago, it's not relevant anymore.
Secondly, Red Hill isn't a reference from Sonic just cause it has the word "hill" on it. It's just filler.
@@supermax9007 Yeah, but it is maybe a reference to the Sonic movie since the mushroom planet is next to it. Y'know, like the place Sonic was supposed to go in in the Sonic movie?
Still, it could be a coincidence
The lady in the commercial apparently was also the same voice actress for Princess Toadstool on the Super Mario Supershow
Nah
Did you buy that 3ds?
I was already excited for this upcoming Mario masterpiece, but this solidified the idea that this is going to completely change the videogame film industry. The amount of references to the different parts of Mario's legacy show that research was done, and that things will stay to the original, not going ridiculously far out, warping our perception.
Gonna be interesting to see the overall plot and where they take it, either way, it'll be amazing animation, great references, and highly meme-able (+ a good film probably)
Also the person they helped in the commercial is voiced by the VA who did Princess Toadstool in the Super Mario Bros Super Show. Her character looks like Princess Toadstool as well.
@DrPeachGuy You do realize back then during the show, she was just called Princess Toadstool not Peach. So obviously he's not referring to the current Peach that would be within the movie.
0:47 captions: I wear the Mario brothers and plummets again
I hope that they have a "DO THE MARIO!" Remix or remaster at the end of the movie.
HOLY CRAP, this movie is looking better with every trailer.
Ikr?
Also, if you look closely on Luigi’s hat, you can actually see a green “L” on it, which is an homage to the classic gamecube game “Luigi’s Mansion.” Very cool easter egg 😊
Wait really? No way! His hat looks just like his mario power tennis version!!!
There's a better Luigi's Mansion reference in the pre-recorded message when you call the number in the ad.
*I love how they single-handedly confirmed this will be the most-realistic part of the movie and my (already) favorite part of them movie 😂*
OMG! Princess Daisy (Original Super Mario Bros form) is in the movie!! The lady with the cellphone!!
Too bad they didn't update her appearance to modern day Daisy
I’m only 15 but I remember watching the Super Mario Bros. Super Show on Netflix on my Wii U as a kid.
I think they are making it worth the wait since the original disaster movie. They are going out of their way to show they do not want a repeat of that mess.
There was also a street there named Wolf street, I think that was referencing Wolf from the Star Fox series.
I love this commercial and can't wait to go see this movie!
Same
I don't think Luigi's screaming face is supposed to be a Home Alone reference, he's just scared and screaming. In Home Alone Kevin doesn't make that face because he's scared, but because aftershave hurts like a bitch. But if it is supposed to be a reference to something it's probably "The Scream" painting.
The woman in the ad is also apparently the original voice actor of Princess Toadstool from the cartoon.
This movie not only refers to the history of the Mario franchise, but also to the history of Nintendo and other franchises! Eager to see the movie!
There’s also Wolf St. because Star Wolf? Might not be a reference but still
The woman in the commercial is the original Princess Toadstool voice actress from the 80's toon.
Luigi's Mansion Is one of my favorite games of all time and I have been looking at that box art for over 20 years and never once drew the comparison to home alone
it says mushroom planet and next to that it says red hills maybe for sonic
Just remember, we were all hesitant toward illumination making this movie, Chris Pratt playing Mario, and the leaked face of Mario a day before the first trailer. Now we are here closer to the movie and just appreciating all the detail and love put into this film.
Location "Ecto Hill" situated near "Bellerose Manor". Ecto as in say, ectoplasm? Hmm... convenient. Could this be related to Luigi's Mansion?
There's a place called Shell City on the map too, reminds me of the shop from the first SpongeBob movie.
Patrick: Shell City...
I heard the girl in that commercial is voiced by the one who voiced princess toadstool in the show 🤩
I like your profile photo!
Fun fact! The lady in commercial is voiced by the original voice actress of Princess Toadstool from the show!
It makes sense they would reference Punch Out considering Mario moonlights as a referee.
While you're pointing out Mansion Street, I noticed a location down in the bottom right that was called "Ecto Hill".
The phone number you can call is also identified as New York City area number
Mushroom Planet may also be an indirect/accidental reference to the Sonic movies, which featured a Mushroom Planet based on Mushroom Hill.
4:08 There is also Wolf Street. Could it be a reference to Star Fox?
nah, it's probably a reference to the legend of Zelda because it's right under link street and it's from twilight princess
If Link St. really is a reference to Link, then we could take it a step further and say that Wolf St. being directly below Link St. is a reference to Wolf Link, although I highly doubt that they would decide to subtly reference Twilight Princess in the ad of all places.
The ""Classic"" Mario decal is actually in the modern 2D artstyle, probably drawn by Shigehesa Nakaue himself.
HOWEVER, the pose Mario is in is a reference to the original jumping pose from the Japanese Boxart for SMB1 drawn by Miyamoto.
Here's a neat fact. The woman in the ad is voiced by Jeannie Elias. The same woman who voiced Princess Peach in the Mario Bros. cartoon!
The woman's voice is done by the original voice of Princess Peach (Toadstool) from the Super Mario Bros Super Show
No it's not
there is a mouse street on the queens map. maybe referencing that mouse boss from mario 2
bro luigi is just drippin he is very stylish
"Home Alone originally"
Edward Munch's "Scream" was famous enough that the Scream mask is literally a real Fun World mask based on it, it very much predates Home Alone, where that inclusion barely even makes sense other than including it for any excuse to make a funny face banking on the meme. That's like saing the grumpy face was originally from Grumpy Cat.
Scratch that, getting a burn from aftershave without actually shaving a beard makes ZERO sense.
As someone that was born, raised and still lives in Brooklyn this is makes me really happy as a fan
There was one place called red hill, for me, that was a reference from "green hill" from both the Sonic games and the place where Sonic lives in the movie
Here's a couple extra Easter eggs. I hope......Number 1. The spot on the map...where Luigi places the van. In real life, it's a place of business that is plumbing. It is called Village Plumbing. And 2. If you look at their (Village Plumbing) web page...the Super Mario Plumbing web page looks similar to Village Plumbing.
The sticker on the van's window looks similar to the golden 'Official Nintendo Seal' all their games have on the boxes and specifically in the old instruction manuals
The Punch Out reference might also be there due to Mario (or a Mario-like character) being the referee in the original NES version of the game, which is pretty cool
there is actually a Link St near Downtown Houston I always thought it was cool
The Super Mario Bros Plumbing Van is like a Chevrolet Van
A beautiful tribute to Captain Lou Albano and Danny Wells. :') If there was some way we can pull their souls back to Earth so they can see this.
2:15 there's "red hill" which might be a play on "green hill"
That sticker on the windshield looks like the official Nintendo seal of quality with a banner.
