One of the best things about the series is that the story makes sense. As in I can believe the four year course could look like this in order to produce super heroes in this world. Another thing is that it is planned out well. There are so many small things that are shown or mentioned in one book and only make sense two or three books later.
Without spoiling to much: this is true about a watch and a smile, but also very small and inconsequential things that are just like a treat for people who read closely or repeatedly.
Example: In one book they are entering the armory and there are many werapons of all styles (they are there for the guns) and the book mentions one particular item in a half sentence. Just enough to go "strange..." and only in book three you get the real knowledge and you might not even make the connection.

I’m about halfway through book 4 now and I completely agree with your assessment. The stakes get larger but only when they’d reasonably be in a position to deal with it. I’ve been a fan of every book so far.

This is one of those series that just gets better and better for each book.

I loved Book 2. I gave it a 10/10. I’m not sure I’m a fan of the arc in book 3 involving Vince.

This whole series builds very well and you just get more hooked as they get longer. Personally love the narrator for the audiobooks. I’ve re-read and re-listened to this series more than most. Don’t forget Corpies, it’s a year 2-3 offshoot but belongs in the series.

@@NerdBookReview I just wrote it, but to reiterate: Corpies belongs chronologically between book three and four. It is cool and shows more of the world and manages something interesting: How do you create a story around a character that is basically the strongest person on the planet? What are the stakes, where is the danger?

Haha! The first 4 books are! I actually just gave book 2 a 10/10. It was so much fun and I felt like Hayes did the feels and entertainment parts so well.
