  • Defiance of the Fall is a LitRPG series that follows Zach as he tries to survive after Earth is merged with several other planets once they are integrated into the multiverse. The multiverse is run by a sentient AI whose objective is to create the best warriors possible by creating monsters and giving quests to make people level up. The story includes a healthy dose of base building as well as combat.

    That does sound interesting. I am a bit lost as to how it's not edited given he has that many Patreon supporters. I would think you could easily pay an editor when releasing the final product out to the world. Repeated phrases are a big pet peeve of mine, so we shall see.

      According to another commenter he was putting out a chapter a day for this first book. I can understand not having a lot of time then. There’s 12 books out now.

    The Audible versions of this series are Top-Notch. Great narration!

      I thought the first one was very good narration wise!

    Even us fans do agree the first book has the roughest editing and such, but he does find his stride. At first he made a chapter every single day, but eventually he went down to weekdays only and used weekends to double check the editing.
    For planet grades, yes it can go up to A, we see one in a flashback in... i think book 3. C grade worlds and up become flat but warp space in a way that no matter which way you approach them from you end up on top of it.

      Glad to know. That’s a crazy pace! I’ll definitely be going back and listening to more of the books in the future.

      I definitely plan on going farther with the series sometime this summer. I’m a big world building guy and this one does a great job there.

    this the best litrpg there is ..... if you can withstand the cultivation part (the boring part), then its amazing... amazing plot, world building, tons of characters and loveable support characters and even once is 1000 page character is memorable ( i am talking about carl). I would pick up this book any day. very entertaining

      the cultivation part is better than litrpg part imo, and this *is* a cultivation story with litrpg masked on top
      As the story progresses, the litrpg should get less and less important

    Great review Cam! Don't think this series is for me, but I always enjoy hearing your thoughts.
    Looking sharp btw, is that a new haircut? 😁

      Haha. Thanks! I did get a haircut thanks for noticing! I’m about done with my crazy run of these LitRPG books after a month of reading 10 different first books in the LitRPG genre. I’ll get back to more regularly scheduled programming then haha.

    Deci = 1/10 (eg. decade)
    Centi = 1/100 (eg. century)
    Milli = 1/1000 (eg. millenium)
    I'm from NZ and never heard of a decimetre before, but it's probably 0.1m (= 10cm). I have the opposite problem to you; imperial measurements are meaningless to me. So, most books. I make a guess based on context and move on.
    I've tried a few litRPGs, but DCC is the only one I want to continue with so far. The quality of writing and massive, ongoing nature of some series is too off-putting for me.
    Cultivation novels are more my jam; Cradle, Thousand Li, and (my fave) Beware of Chicken; all narrated by Travis Baldree. Titan Hoppers is great, and I'm currently listening to Kraken Rider Z, which I'm enjoying.

      Kraken Rider Z was on my book of the year list last year. I love anything Dyrk writes. I really enjoyed Battle Mage Farmer for the first 2 books but then it got dark for books 3&4 so I stopped. I’ll try Cradle sometime but I’m not using Audible credits for a book that won’t last me a full work day.

    However, and shoring up foundations repeatedly, he just needs a good editor to stop repeating my god book 13 still going on

    A lot of what you said is inaccurate or misleading, but whatever. I don't like how you talk about The Dao. I mean seriously aaaahhhhhhhh, I want to cry but also want to stangle you. I'm not sure where you are in the series, but the Dao is a key element to Cultivation. And please just call them Cultivators, not Levellers. It's painful. Oh, and it's good you said "basically immortal" and not immortal.

      @NerdBookReview ignor dipshit you are correct the first book talks about leveling and if I remember he is learning and calls it leveling at the start and don't think he even referred to himself as a cultivator until the end if at all memory may be off

      I've got all the books. I love the series's but he can afford it, but I've been saying if he just gets an editor or, a better one, the books will be so much more enjoyable after book 3 I wanted to scream hearing the repeating so I read his books and take breaks for a couple weeks to get thru it lol
