Pitchers playing the field like outfield or first base. Sometimes balls get hit to them Instagram / sportingvideo Twitter / sporting_video All clips to mlb / mlb
I always looked at a relationship between the positions. I started catching when I was in 5th grade. As i got older and had to compete against catchers with better throwing ability, coaches could easily put me at third or first, seeing how i wasnt that fast. I could also play left or right field. Shortstops cam easily transfer to second and center field. I tell my nephew, who trows and bats lefty and is faster than i was, to play alot of first base because that will get him on most teams. If there is a better first baseman they can put him in the outfield at any position because of his speed.
A lot of people fail to realize that pitchers don’t become pitchers until they get to the MLB. They pretty much all we’re position players that occasionally pitched throughout their high school and college years. I would say a good majority of them were infielders, so it’s not really anything to send them out there and see them get the job done. The difference is that you can’t really pull a position player and have them pitch. You see it sometimes in spring training or blowouts, but they’re just there to end the game and save the pitchers arms. They’re not going to make any sort of impression. Some of them can throw pretty hard, but they don’t have the movement and technique that makes MLB pitchers effective.
I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. Most pitchers are true athletes ( love to see Colon at another position). Preparing for these types of situations should be routine......
You had us going there until you mentioned Colon. Seriously, I had the same thought, but you could say that about most players in MLB. Probably most of them pitched at one time or another, and most pitchers played positions when they weren't pitching. These guys would have been the best overall athletes in whatever league or whatever level they were playing at.
I don’t really know a lot of baseball so if anyone here knows baseball really good I got a question for you? If a pitcher comes out in the 7th... Can he go play outfield or any other position or do they have to sit out for the rest of the game?
Im looking to play in the MLB when im older but im debating to play pitcher cause im the best pitcher in my leauge with 156 K and 45 walks but im also a short stop and I am good at both but im really good at hitting and playing short cause im smaller and quicker and have more power and my average speed for my signature fastball is 79 mps and that is fast for my age at 11 and im getting advice from my cousin who pitched in the MLB of the ups and downs but im leaning towards pitching
Wood is the great outfielder of all time
1.000 career defensive stats 0 errors
BEN PLAYSS 4:37
BEN PLAYSS
Wasn’t that the game where Jon Lester had the walkoff bunt in extra innings?
Cubs MLB Perfect Inning Gaming I think if not during that series
Now this is a video I would never would have thought to do

Thank you Ben
4:38 is my favorite non-postseason Cub moment.
Travis Wood is my favorite Cub ever. No question.
BubbaBlack
Really? 😂 that’s cool.
Cubs MLB Perfect Inning Gaming Yep lol I have a signed picture of him on my wall
I remember when Sean Marshall played in the outfield as a Cub and later switched back to pitcher in that game

Catchers playing different positions
Contreras
*that isn’t 1B
Or the inverse, non-catchers playing catcher
Austin Barnes sometimes plays 2nd base
Catchers already play first base on partial off days. I know that Carlos Ruiz once made an emergency pitching appearance but that's it.

If a pitcher plays outfield. YOU ARE NOT RUNNING ON HIM.
3:17 "Mother, uh, what is that..." You mean, necessity is the mother of invention? LOL!
McCarver stinks at announcing

It's because managers don't want to risk an injury.
Colon as a pinch runner
I genuinely did not know a pitcher could be taken out of the pitcher position and then go straight back to the pitcher position after a batter
Don't know why mlb acts so surprised about pitchers playing positions. They are athlete's!
Its rare. They dont practice those position drills much. And theyre not as athletic. That's why. Moron
@@dariansanchez3034 thats a little harsh
@@dariansanchez3034 especially since outfield isn't very hard
This is awesome
Pitchers play outfield ALL the time when batting practice takes place. Whats so amazing about a pitcher in the outfield?
I remember when i was a kid noah lowry for the giants having to play outfield, i think in right... i dont remember if he got a ball hit to him
You should do Hunter Pence Giants highlights! Great vids btw
Roy Oswalt?

If he leaves the game he is done, however if he goes strait from pitcher to the outfield, he is still in the game
4:08 Does that Padres pitcher with the last name Stauffer have any relation to QVC host Stacey Stauffer?
Logically pitchers could make good outfielders or catchers
I dont think you understand how difficult it is to catch...
Dakota George I catch
If you actually do, then you'd understand that what you said makes no sense
Dakota George the arm is great, of they r a good fielding pitcher, then they could
Not a catcher due to the risk of injury.
Man I was gonna ask for bid like this: you must have read my mind
Outfielders playing the infield
Catchers pitching to pitchers
I wish they let everyone play everywhere. That would be so entertaining
is this still legal or did they screw it up ? jesse orosco in RF is crazy

Your talent level at whichever position will tell you which direction to go :)
Do both as long as you can, do let people make you choose if you’re good enough to do both.
OHTANI
