This particular scene has the highest level of bromance-nism any movies could ever reach. Btw, from safety point of view, that rescue Hilo land to close to recently parked jet and crowds of flight deck crews.
They became buddies ever since. Decades later, Iceman would become an admiral in command of the Pacific Fleet while Mav is still stuck as a captain due to frequent infractions while Ice covers him all the time to prevent major consequences.
Ice & Mav showed so much respect to each other. Ice during debriefing even wanted Maverick & Merlin as his wingmen but this was rejected. Excellent ending for these characters. I hope they will be friends in Top Gun Maverick. :)
I disagree with the take that Ice wanted Mav as his wingman before the mission - on the carrier. I would argue he did NOT want him. His words were : "This is nothing personal sir, but, with regard to Maverick, is he the best .... (cut off)". In addition - when Mav initially chokes during the dogfight , Iceman angrily says "I knew it!" - as in, I knew he would go into a psychological hole because of his obvious confidence problem.
This scene was very triumphant then Top Gun Maverick made me triumphant and tearful "Thank you for saving my life" "It's what my dad would have done" 😭😭😭
My mom’s ex boyfriend was the father figure I didn’t have for the years when it mattered, And though my mother and him moved on almost 20 years ago, our families managed to stay connected through it all. The man who think of when I hear “Dad” has now been in the final stage of cancer, and his family knew two things: 1. It could be literally any day 2. He loves Top Gun So we all rented a theater for his whole family, himself, my mother, and I to all see Top Gun Maverick together. We laid a bed out for him in the walkway between the seat aisles, and I was gifted with one of the most special nights of my life that I’ll never forget, being able to see Top Gun 2 with my father. Ultimately, We’ve lived separate lives since I was a child, and the times I do see him became more fleeting as I grew into an adult. But after the movie was finished, everyone hugged, said their goodbyes, and shed tears, I knew there was so much I could say to the man who helped my mother when she needed it most. I could’ve said dwelled on the memories of when he said he’d be there in my birthdays, but didn’t show up. But as an adult, I understood he has many regrets of his own, and may never be able to get closure for so many mistakes he made, or know if his successes were realized. As I was about to get into my car and leave, I ran back over as he was getting in his truck, And quoted this moment to him. As expected, he replied verbatim with the follow up quote, as we hugged, and both drove our separate ways for the night. I realize now, through all the disappointments and grudges we hold, All it really takes is stepping up, and trying to make the last moment, the best it can possible be. And if it really is, it’ll be the one you go back to the most after the fact. I’m not a poet, so this doesn’t have the flare it could, But it was that Top Gun showed me sometimes, the way through a bad moment in your life, or a damaged relationship, Is relating to something they love, and loving it with them.
This film was released in 1986 but 5 years later I joined the Navy in 1991. All because of this film. If I cannot fly airplanes might as well as repair them.
You can show Jennifer Connelly riding on Maverick's motorcycle with him in the new "Top Gun: Maverick" trailer and tell me that she's his "love interest", but you will never get me to believe that Iceman and Maverick haven't been in love for the past 35 years....

But Tom Cruise still looks like 30-35 year old though - like it's still late 90s
@@ladakhhardaar950 he blends in really well with the kids in the beach scene… that is impressive to say the least.
@@GeorgiaAndrea yeah, guy has worked really hard for it. What an inspiration!
This particular scene has the highest level of bromance-nism any movies could ever reach.
Btw, from safety point of view, that rescue Hilo land to close to recently parked jet and crowds of flight deck crews.
kazansky’s smile is a perfect finale of TOPGUN
What I love most about this movie is these guys go from ultra competitive rivals all movie to a complete brotherhood by the end.
"group hug in the shower tonight!!...."
"or not.."
"or not"
BUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
“Sword fight in the showers later!”
-Everyone in the background “Yay 🎉🙌”
Maverick was amazing. A worthy sequel imo.
They became more than just friends. Ice became Mavs guardian and made sure he kept his job because Ice knew they will always need people like Mav.
This scene was very triumphant then Top Gun Maverick made me triumphant and tearful
"Thank you for saving my life"
"It's what my dad would have done"
😭😭😭
I cried when iceman died in the second movie of top gun🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I feel that val Kilmer really felt emotional on set live while acting this clip
He's a FANTASTIC actor.
It warms my heart that after this, they went on and became Brothers.
A Rivalry Ends, and A Friendship Begins.
A true friendship, and wingman for a lifetime
My mom’s ex boyfriend was the father figure I didn’t have for the years when it mattered,
And though my mother and him moved on almost 20 years ago, our families managed to stay connected through it all.
The man who think of when I hear “Dad” has now been in the final stage of cancer, and his family knew two things:
1. It could be literally any day
2. He loves Top Gun
So we all rented a theater for his whole family, himself, my mother, and I to all see Top Gun Maverick together.
But after the movie was finished, everyone hugged, said their goodbyes, and shed tears,
I knew there was so much I could say to the man who helped my mother when she needed it most.
I could’ve said dwelled on the memories of when he said he’d be there in my birthdays, but didn’t show up.
But as an adult, I understood he has many regrets of his own, and may never be able to get closure for so many mistakes he made, or know if his successes were realized.
As I was about to get into my car and leave, I ran back over as he was getting in his truck,
And quoted this moment to him.
As expected, he replied verbatim with the follow up quote,
as we hugged, and both drove our separate ways for the night.
I realize now, through all the disappointments and grudges we hold,
All it really takes is stepping up, and trying to make the last moment, the best it can possible be.
And if it really is, it’ll be the one you go back to the most after the fact.
I’m not a poet, so this doesn’t have the flare it could,
But it was that Top Gun showed me sometimes, the way through a bad moment in your life, or a damaged relationship,
Is relating to something they love, and loving it with them.
beautiful 🥺
One of the greatest two movie best friends of all time
Maverick and Iceman
One day Iceman will be a Rear Admiral protecting Maverick.
Higher, he ended up as four-star Admiral, and Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet
Man that hug. What a movie. 👍
Greatest film of all time
Not even the greatest film of the 80’s.
The helmet pump combined with the audio drum snare hit at 0:13 is so satisfying.
"You can ride my tail anytime"
"Bullshit. You can ride mine"
Sword fight! Sword fight!
0:37
"YOU!" Val Kilmer, 1986.
Nobody was cooler then Val Kilmer back in the day, every role he played he stole the show
I love how Maverick’s sunglasses are magically back on his face right after the hug!!
Ah, I can never get bored of this film.
I only just realised Tim Robbins was in this movie.
Wait, so Andy Dufresne joined the Navy twenty years after he escaped?
@@nayankalitadualcitizen he had to go somewhere red was his wing man didn’t you know ? Faked his death !
One of the greatest films ever made.
And decades later he actually becomes a instructor in top gun maverick 2022
Just watched the new top gun and absolutely loved it
The story of a bottom who became a top. So beautiful.
And then there’s Tim Robbins...standing a good two feet taller than everyone else. I’m surprised they could get his head in frame.
They cut half of his face most of the video 😂
Robbins is like 6'5" --- one of the tallest actors of the past 40 years
And actually too tall to be a pilot in real life Navy
That's why he left Shawshank and moved down to Mexico
so dufresne from Shawshank was a damn giant?
This film was released in 1986 but 5 years later I joined the Navy in 1991. All because of this film. If I cannot fly airplanes might as well as repair them.
"You can be wingman anytime."
"Bullshit, you can be mine....meet you in the changing room in 5 mins, bring some vaseline with you."

You can show Jennifer Connelly riding on Maverick's motorcycle with him in the new "Top Gun: Maverick" trailer and tell me that she's his "love interest", but you will never get me to believe that Iceman and Maverick haven't been in love for the past 35 years....
You can ride my tail any time haha
It's ok, you could say things like that in the 1980s and people didn't think you were gay. Well, if you looked liked Tom Cruise they might hope that you're gay but you could say it anyway.
Techne jajaj Tarantino
No way, you can be mi... Wait a minute, I ain't falling for that!
No, ur mom
you should be more respectful
I’m still commenting here after 3 years again and I going to say these. Thank you God for letting me watched this movie over and over again. Man that hug. 🙏
Love how Hollywood and Wolfman survived
Yeah man one of the very best Hollywood ever produced Steve Stevens guitar solo is incredible
Aww after all these years, I still get emotional when Maverick throws Gooses's tags in the ocean. Still one of favorite movies of all time. You couldn't tell me as a youngster, that I wasn't going to be the first female fighter pilot to graduate from Top Gun lol...memories :)
What do you mean ? Did you graduate ?
@@juana2631 I never joined the Navy, I was just obsessed with the movie and at that time, thought I would become the first female fighter pilot. I didn’t even realize because I was a child, it was probably already female fighter pilots but not shown in the film!
@@PhillyGirlLivefromthe215 Oh I didn't expect you to reply after 7 years. Lol. Anyways, I don't think there were many women aviators at that time.
1:01 - No sunglasses
1:03 - Magic sunglasses appear on his head???
Shhhhhh! The 80s can do whatever they want.
and how long should it take to put sunglasses on?
+Jonathan Andrew Don't be a knob, freeze frame it, you'll see its a fuck up
nah, i'm too busy.
:o)
This scene has MUCH more impact after you watch Top Gun: Maverick (which is literally a 10/10 movie)
Maverick and the Iceman❤️❤️. Two great actors I'll love forever.
