There is a time travel movie that I absolutely love called About Time. In the movie, the dad uses his time travel ability to go back in time over and over to read as many books as he wants haha. I love that so much and probably something I would do if I could time travel to read all the comics lol There are so many great affordable DC books from the Silver Age, I do love collecting them. And yeah it was nice and rewarding to go through Artist Alley and buy prints and books and more from a bunch of artist there. Artist Alley is one of my favorite parts of NYCC.
That Superman #300 was a good issue, you'll notice that they didn't ruin the cover art with a UPC box -- even though barcodes had begun as of #299. That was tough for me to find in the stands back then, I recall needing to hit 3 or 4 stores before finding just one copy on a drugstore rack. Very impressive haul, great condition.
I binge the actual comic con videos you posted. Which I felt I was living vicariously through you ,I enjoyed all those videos . I didn’t think I was going to check this post since I saw the others but I got say it was worth it. You were grabbing books so fast I didn’t get a good look at them all. So many great books , love the books you got happy to see you get sure good deals.
Awesome video! I also LOVE to collect bronze/silver/gold horror titles. The scary stories are great! I've also been buying the Weird War Tales and other War books. I especially love the war books with the prehistoric theme, Star Spangled, etc.., Thanks for sharing. Your vids got me back into collecting comics. I'm primarily a sports card guy. Thanks!
Oh yeah all that genre stuff is amazing. I recently purchased some of the War That Time Forgot Star Spangled books and it made me want to get the full run. Love those Dinosaur vs War covers so much
This is amazing. Really enjoyed your previous videos from the Con itself, but watching the end result of all the books you bought? Holy cow! Pretty mind blowing. It surprised me to hear you mention that you got made fun of for some of the books you picked up. I'll be honest, I don't have an affinity for all of the books you pick up, but would never think of making fun or making a crappy comment. I am sure we all have our peculiar tastes and some of the things that I like are not what others would like.
Yeah we all have our own interests and sometimes they overlap and sometimes they are completely different. Bronze Age Flash comics or Plop comics though with Wally Wood and Sergio Aragones art, it was just shocking to get negative comments on those books lol
@@pop-comics I agree, specially with comics with art by some of the all-time greats like Wood and Aragones. Regardless of the comic, if it's got art by them, it's worth picking up. Specially if it's cover art.
Glad to see Plop! on here, always wanted one and finaly found a #11 at my first comic con ever i went to last month. Seen a couple later ones also on my way out, wish i grabbed them too.
Would have LOVED to have taken a crack at the 3 and 5 dollar boxes. Next year maybe the Cool Kid can help out carrying the books back? He'll be bigger and be able to carry some weight, no?
Yeah there was such amazing $3 and $5 boxes this year. Yeah he is getting to the age where he can help more. This year he did not go to Comic Con and was super bummed out (I spoiled him a little because of that) but next year he will go. We are also going to Anime NYC in a few weeks, not sure many comics will be there but we will be hunting for cool stuff.
Glad you did this breakdown of your haul. Much fun. Loving those Strange Sports and GI Combats! Like how you produced this video. Covers/colors look great. Well done.
I grew up with a bunch of those little book comics that my mom had. Perhaps from her mom now that I'm thinking about that dates. Definitely had that Tarzan one. I think I only had a real interest in the Tarzan one as I went through a Saturday morning Tarzan movie kick when I was little in the '90s and tv ran that kind of programming. 1:31:30
Jerry Lee Lewis is the piano player who wrote “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”. Jerry Lewis was a comedian who is the title character of that comic book.
Love the Adventure into Fear #19. I bought 2 waterlogged copies in the last month for $10 Canadian each. Cleaned and pressed, took out the water damage. Also picked up the UK Chiller reprints for about $40.
Great video! One thing, with multiple covers they don’t always use the interior cover for the grade. They use whatever cover has the highest grade. Sometimes it’s an interior cover, sometimes it’s the outer cover.
That makes sense, all the double ones I have seen the better one is interior so that is what I was thinking but yeah the better overall cover making the grade makes sense.
@@pop-comics Yeah. I used to have a Sensation Comics #51 double cover where the outer cover was an 8.5 and the inner was a 4.0. The grade on it was an 8.5.
Oh that would be a super awesome comic to own, and having the nicer cover on the outside meant it would display super well too. Do you know what was wrong with the inner one?
@@pop-comics It was a great early Wonder Woman book for sure. Probably one of the earliest Action 1 homage covers. I don’t know what was wrong with the interior cover since I bought it already graded.
can you do a whole video on Fiction House Comics? I had never heard of them until seeing this video and your video browsing them at the comiccon and they look awesome/beautiful!
They do have so many beautiful covers. When I get to a short box full of them I definitely want to do a collection tour video on them. They did a fun book on the history of Fiction house with a bunch of the covers pictured in it. Its a great place to start if you want more info etc.
I've watched a few of your videos, and I'm actually shocked at the range of companies you collect. When it comes to Silver and Bronze age, I tend to limit myself to Marvel, and i still feel like I'll never come close to having a complete collection. That being said, good haul and good video.
For the most part I am looking for comics with covers by certain artist regardless of which companies they worked for. Marvel is the most expensive company to collect when it comes to Silver Age, but also I find it more often in collections I buy so I dont hunt for it as much and I also have tons from that era.
@@pop-comics I hear you. I'm just a working-class collector and the thing about collecting Marvel(which I've done for the last 30 years), especially after the advent of the MCU, is you have to be shrewd and you have to be patient. You can't indulge in FOMO. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Yes patient wins the day, I always buy the deal not the want. That way I know no matter what I am not loosing out. That being said so many Silver Age Marvels are just exploding in value. Its frustrating knowing some stuff may never be in my collection etc.
I loved Plop! comics when I was a kid. I remember that was one series I used to read...too bad I wasn't picking up ASM back then. That stain the size of a quarter on Man Thing should have knocked the heck off that grade. It should have been an 8 max if the rest of it was perfect.
Might you be tempted to crack the case (Fear 19 CGC 9.0) and "tear off" the outer cover, since the inner cover is what is getting you the higher grade? I wouldn't , since double covers are more collectible.
I paid a premium because its a double cover. I love errors like that. I have multiple ungraded copies in my collection that are in decent shape I can look at if I want to look at the comic not in the case.
Question: I have a collection of over a thousand comics, and most are top characters and artists (EX: all of Todd McFarlanes's first works, Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, etc.) most from late 70's to 80s. Some early 90's. What is the best way now with WWW, too sell this collection in one purchase? (NOT piece-by-piece?)
For the most money you would have to break the collection up and sell it in parts, takes more time but best return. If speed is top priority You will have to find someone who will buy it in bulk at the best price. Its hard to get both speed of selling and the highest price. For me when I buy a collection like this I will pay 40-50% of the value for most comics over $10 value. $2 or so for any comic I think would sell in the $6-$10 range 50 cents to $1 each for any comic I think will sell well for at least $3-$5 and 5-25 cents for any comics under $3.
Best thing to do is sort them out by title, get an idea of what you have that has value and sell them in lots. Possibly pulling out key issues to sell separately. It will take more time then selling wholesale to a shop but it will make more overall if you have the time.
I just started my collection of comics, I’m glad I found you on n my yt recommendation.. I buy some Spider-Man , and green lantern .what other comics should I buy??? Nice vid

@@pop-comics Yeah, that's my point. I think of myself as a 'collector', but I only have 5 short boxes mostly consisting of late 80s to mid 90s Marvel/DC/Image stuff, along with the few new books I've bought (and mostly been disappointed by) in the past couple years... At least the covers are nice, but I think maybe these companies should stop releasing a dozen variants for EVERY issue, and put a bit more effort into creating consistent quality interior art and more engaging, better edited 'stories'.
