Love your comic hauls. I've heard you ask a few times "how did I miss this last time I was at this booth?" Sometimes vendors but out new inventory on the 2nd and 3rd day because they simply had more comics than available space or they re-supplied. just another tip. keep up the cool content!
That really nice Fiction House dealer had the kind of classic accent you'd expect to hear at any NYC newsstand from the Golden Age right up to present day.
Yeah I was able to get a lot of things at prices that I thought were great! You are very welcome. I had a ton of fun and plan on many more comic videos.
Really enjoying the amount of content you’re cranking out, love to see the enthusiasm for collecting and being able to basically experience the con through you haha also glad the second channels picking up for you it seems
I got to find the energy to film it today so hopefully can post tomorrow. My body is killing me after 4 days of con hunting haha I cant wait to do it again.
Yes I think in general they have nicer covers and they are way more affordable. I look for golden age comics with beautiful covers for the most part, better line drawing and better coloring. Not so much key issues.
I am still learning but I love the stuff. Sometime in the 1970s my Grand Ma had a tenant move out of an apartment she owned and he left behind a box of Golden Age comic books. So as a Kid in the 1980s she would give my cousins my brother and my self a comic every birthday and Christmas for at least 5 years. My cousin is 10 years older so he would get the super hero stuff, my brother as well. I would get the cartoon stuff like Funny Folks and Haha. So growing up I was exposed to it and had maybe a dozen golden age comics. When I sold my comic collection in the 1990s, selling the Golden Age ones are the ones I regret. I had a beautiful mid to high grade Batman 40 that I got from her when I was a little bit older. I really would love to own that issue again. My cousin studied drawing and went to Joe Kubert, he has gone on to have a successful career in Animation.
If you see Nick Cardy covers in mid-grade for $3 each, you take them all and scurry away as fast as possible! If you see the same books in higher grade priced at $175 at a coin collector's booth you smile, nod, and take their card. Then slowly drift away as if your wife is calling you.
Yeah every time I posted comics on Pop Fun To Play the algorithm would kill my channel and it really bummed me out. I love doing comic content so finally decided to break it out into my original channel. And its doing well here so I am super happy. It means way more comic content will be coming out.
Found your page last week and I'm really enjoying this content you are great. I HAVE to point something out. At 2:02 I'm 90% sure Chucky walks past you 😂
You spoke the truth, if you find something the great price that you love just spend the extra and work a little harder to pay it off. I regretted not grabbing some original pages for cheap at SDCC almost thirty year ago but it was Sunday and I only had money for gas to drive back to LA. I should have pulled more money out and did it . Again great content.
Definitely, those regrets will be what you remember most. The extra work you have to do to pay for that one item that you really wanted that was a great price you will forget about quickly.
Yes that is the best way to gauge values of things you don't know, find the things you do know the value on and if that price seems fair then the rest of the pricing should be fair.
JUMBO COMICS! man, thats a great convention. some of those old comics are timeless great stories in an age we have forgotten as writers and artists. THANKS for the tips. That helps out a LOT. Because...due to Pandemic...its...BEEN A WHILE since I went to a convention and shopped and I forgot a lot. Other tip, bring good shoes, and bring some of your own food, because lines are long and food is expensive. And water.
Looks like you had fun and found you great books keep up the videos are great keep them coming I enjoy them very very much your friend jon Daniel's up here in oregon
I just started collecting Fiction House stuff last month so no doubles yet but who knows maybe a collection or two will fall into my lap now that I am collecting them.
last comment, promise. I, too, shop for the colors and art. People don't realize the beauty and skill of old artwork on comic book covers. And the subject of the artwork or painting is usually much different in subject or style than modern comic books. Even the "WINGS" comic books look like great covers. The planes look all jazzed/tricked out deluxe airplanes. [i love model airplanes ].
Thanks for the all of the tips. They are spot on, make total sense and some I wouldn't have ever thought of. Personally, not at that level of collector yet (I have always stuck to the dollar or less bins) but at next con I will look into 5 dollar bucks, see if there are any good bronze age books I can find. I can't imagine how expensive of a con it was for you, but we sure do benefit from it. thanks a bunch.
When I approach a $5 bin I treat it the same way as a $1 bin. Dollar bins I am looking either for rare things or things worth way more then $1. Do the same with the $5 bins look for things you know are worth more then $5 that you definitely want. It does eat up your budget faster of course. But if you purchase 50 dollar books that are worth say $200 or you hit a $5 bin and buy 10 books worth $200 you probably will enjoy those 10 books more because they will be comics that have been harder for you to find.
Sir, I got to tell you. I have NEVER heard of some of those titles you are thumbing through, but they look interesting 10:50 to 11:17 (Hedy, Fight, Unexpected, and later Wierd Sports (or something like that ) ). Got to find out what they are. There is alsoa DC version of a woman fighter like Conan?
Yes there is a ton of cool older stuff that is a bit lost to time. Its fun exploring collecting and researching these things. I don't know much about a female warrior at DC, but if there was it was shortlived.
Do you keep a spreadsheet of your comic collection or do you have a pretty good memory for these things? I def wouldn't trust myself to remember anything outside of key issues I need.
I dont, I do everything from memory and then sort a few times a year, I do buy duplicates at times but I have a shop so they sell easily so I am not so worried about it.
I’m new to collecting comics and it was so overwhelming at comic con lol I bought the house of M storyline, def wanted more but didn’t know best marvel or dc storylines comic wise
Its very overwhelming, so its good to kind of a make a game plan before hand so you can help focus your search a little. Go to google and look up your favorite characters and best storyline. You can probably find a few cool list that would help you find the best stories from your favorite characters.
What I do for a wall of books without prices, I ask to look at and the price of something I know the value on. Then based on that I can tell if the vendor is fishing for over prices, fair in their prices or a true deal. Most of the time though no prices means over prices so I move on.
@@pop-comics exactly. And with over a hundred vendors @nycc I can’t really stop and ask prices when as a seller you should’ve put the price on the item/comic. It’s like at a supermarket you expect the prices on the item.
@@pop-comics Ha ha ha! New follower of your channel, good material! ... but it makes me nervous when I see some stuff (80s X-Men) and I see you DON'T TAKE IT! XD Greetings from Barcelona, the 'Old Continent'!
I'm a dealer (Not in comics..but here's how it works): 1. I always ask - how do you intend to pay? Cash works better than credit cards... 2. Always buy in volume...the dealer can't do much if you buy a single item.. 3.If you make an offer to me...DON'T insult me....make it fair. I just might be able to cut a deal.....If you insult me...you'll NEVER get a deal at my booth. 4.If you really do want an item..but have to leave for some reason...put a DOWNPAYMENT on it....otherwise, you get one hour to get your ASS back to my booth with the money. In other words, without a down payment, I will ONLY hold if for one hour. I"ve been burned way too many times holding crap for people and they don't come back and I could have sold it 8 fucking times. 5. Don't wait until Sunday to buy an object you've been wanting. There's a good chance it won't be there when you get back to me on Sunday.

Thank you, I am having a fun time with the comic channel so I will be posting here regularly.
Great tips! Love seeing you dig thru the boxes. Bronze age horror is so cool.

Awesome coverage!! All the comics were great, but I really like the horror. 👏
Thank you happy you enjoyed the videos and the old school horror is a definitely fun.
@@pop-comics yes it is and yes I really enjoyed the video.
19:40 damn, that's a key comic, right there. Amazing Spider-Man #4 Ramos variant, 1st appearance of Silk. :o
Definitely a super cool modern Key, I am sure it was pricey.

Dude I love those older golden age books. They’re a good alternative to the super hero book, plus they tend to have better looking colors.
Yes I think in general they have nicer covers and they are way more affordable. I look for golden age comics with beautiful covers for the most part, better line drawing and better coloring. Not so much key issues.
