Lived near Lanier since 84. It's a tough lake to fish without a boat so I fished mainly ponds and the Hooch. About 10 years ago, my neighbor took me out for some REAL boat fishing on Lanier. He's fished that lake most of his life and had won many an amateur tournament there. What a day we had. We put the boat in at Shoal Creek and literally went just acrosss to the other side....maybe a mile across the water. We spent about three hours fishing the banks and docks. We caught about 40 fish. 10 of them straight slab keepers.
We had the live well full of 5 pounders and above. We came back to the dock and met this guy on another boat. He was burnt to a crisp. Been on the lake all day. Lamenting about his lack of luck he asked how we did. My neighbor in the most southern of accents said, "We did pretty good. We caught about 40 total with 10 keepers."
The other guy was in disbelief.
    "No way"
Bill told him to come aboard and look in the well.....
He did. He started pulling them out. You could see his heart moving up his chest into his throat.
"Where'd you get all these?" He asked.
Bill pointed directly to the opposite shoreline.
    "Right over dare".
The stranger proceeds to tell us about going to all these other places and not getting anything.....
Bill said, "you fishing all the wrong places this time of year.."
This dude was about to load up is boat.... he jumped back on his boat and said thanks...headed directly to where we were 30 minutes ago.
Bill laughed as he drove away in the boat....
"He ain't gonna catch shit over there, now."
    I asked why.
Bill said calmly. Feeding time is over for them spots.
Needless to say, those 10 keepers we brought home made one hell of a dinner.
    Delicious.

Amazing video Kevin. I've looked up to you since I've started fishing when I was 3 . I'm 19 . You won the classic in Pittsburgh when I was born. I'm also a Steelers fan and they also won the Superbowl that year. I have learned a lot about smallie fishing from you just from watching you , I live in Arizona and fish lake Mohave . Would be cool to fish with you one day. Caught my p.b last weekend, 6.4 on a 1/2 ounce underspin with a 3.5 inch rege swimmer !!!
