I've now watched this multiple times. This contains a great explanation of the HUD and even better, a concise explanation of how to use it. This is a really valuable video, not just for this aircraft, but all jets with HUDs.
Thanks 👍🏻 You can also check out my how to land any jet video for HUD and NO HUD approaches.
Thanks for the help on these vids. Cannot wait to start flying this new beast…
Long or short, in my book any carrier landing you can walk away from is a good one 😂 best carrier landing I heard of was in fog, carrier in full lights out battle stations. A powerful been was pointed skywards alongside the carrier island. The Harrier landed on fumes, by keeping the beam to it's side and gently easing down through the clagg! One shot only I believe the pilot was awarded a flying medal for this 👍👏👏👏 another helpful video to help us Cessna pilots have a look into the big boys world 👍
Wowzers! Those Harrier guys tried some seriously experimental stuff! Still remember the landing on a container ship! Not to mention the hover landing without nose wheel onto a support table thing!
@@cgaviator yeah and the Harrier was far more difficult to fly than the F 35b just shows how far we've come. I recall some film of John Farley who did a display with some Helicopters they were flying forwards whilst he flew in formation with them.... but flying backwards !! Some test pilot John Farley 👍
@@garryadams67 arguably the harrier is more fun to fly! 😄
@@cgaviator Totally agree, I even thought of trying DCS just because of their Harrier 👍Two books to look out for, Harrier Boys 1 and 2 some great recollections of an amazing aircraft. Snubbed by many because it was subsonic!
Nice video once again Chris.
Nice. Excellent tutorial. Thank you and take care.
Great video, super keen for this on the marketplace
Which should be soon Microsoft/Asobo are currently testing it to see if it is ready for release
Would definitely like a video on the kinetic assistance, I've not heard of that one before, so curious to see what it is :)
Anyways, great stuff as always, thanks!
It’s a great little piece of software. I’ll add it to the todo list 👍🏻
@@cgaviator Awesome, thanks!
Excellent, excellent tutorial. I could not find a video that explained the HUD and how it relates to the landing. I watched your video and tried it out and immediately saw a massive improvement. Thanks for sharing.
It’s comments like this that make it all worth while! Thanks 👍🏻
@@cgaviatorHow far out do you begin your final descent and from what height and speed? I’m terrible with math and keep practicing at about 1-2,000 ft but the inconsistency in speed, distance, and height make it difficult to hit the same spot every time. Thanks!
@@yournamehere4790 worth watching my case 3 recovery video as that may answer your question. 👍🏻
@8:36 visions of playing Topgun on the NES back in the day trying to land on the aircraft carrier.
Aaaah, the NES… my first console!
Those guys next to CAT 1 are the "Crash and Smash" crew. The flight deck crash response. They are always sitting there near the foul line during launches.
Thanks, could still use a few bods up front! 😆
@@thesn00tyfox yes, impressive considering the sim limitations!
@@thesn00tyfox eventually! 👍🏻
Very smooth and informed vids. Very enjoyable, thank you. I'm keen to fly this on XBOX. Kinetic assist is of interest. Shame carriers are static but we can't have it all.
I hope that Microsoft will notice the interest in these products and develop the source code to have properly functioning ships etc.
IndiaFoxTechoe has said Microsoft/Asobo are currently testing it to see if it's good to release in the marketplace for both Console and PC
Looking forward to this aircraft coming out. Great video thx.
It’s out for PC
@@cgaviator do you know if it has any plans to come out for us console users? (im not entirely sure how console releases work)
@@merlin677 yes, once Microsoft has checked and put it on marketplace. Sadly MSFS keeps breaking addons with core sim updates.
@@cgaviator roger sir, thanks for the info!
Great video tutorials thanks! I hope that the developers improve the landing surface textures on of the carriers. It looks like really rough bitumen. A minor issue I know, but it doesnt look great up close and shouldn't take too much effort to improve in future updates.
I believe textures are being upgraded
@@cgaviator awesome thanks
great video, I enjoyed that you know how to actually land per flight pattern. How did you get so many camera angles, is this a camera addon?
No, I have shortcuts for internal, external and drone camera. And I fly the drone with an Xbox controller. Sometimes I use playback but not for this one. All live flown
There are so few buttons and switches in the cockpit. I wonder how they managed any sort of systems redundancy if the main screen goes out during flight.
They return to the main menu and ask the devs for a bug fix smh 🤦♂️🙄
Eject! 😂
The main screen isn't one screen, it's 4 screens. All can display systems independently.
Amazing video. Would love to know your setup- system specs. Do you use VR?
Cancel last. Just seen the description 🤣
Lol, good stuff!
I cant find it?
When flying a grob tutor you rev up the engine back and down before departing to check to Ts&Ps. Do you do this with a hawk and f35?
Most aircraft have their own pre takeoff engine check for sure but id imagine the checklist for the f35 is still secret. i know the hawks do a really long pretakeoff engine check as i work on a airforce base that fly them for trainers and they always sit on the runway for a minute or so on brakes with the engine howling lol. the f-18 also does a pre takeoff thrust and rpm check. throttle to mil, atleast 100 percent thrust on both engines and temps and pressures within limits, brakes off and into afterburner for the roll.
The engine check is thorough on piston aircraft to check performance. On jets the norm is to check temps, rpm etc are in limits. Slight variations between different jets. Some require static takeoff (like the hawk) and others allow for rolling takeoff (like the F18). Engines are still checked regardless of takeoff type.
Hi, great video to learn from, do you plane to make more tutorials on F35 or F14 in the future? Thnaks, Dylan
They will certainly feature more in future videos, absolutely 👍🏻
Hi thanks very much appreciate
How do you change the master mode in this aircraft? In the manual it says the three master modes.air to air,air to ground and navigation which is default. if anyone could help me that would be great
Not looked yet I’m afraid.
So A model is a regular one B model is the hover one and C model is the aircraft carrier for the navy?
A model is for Air force (ie conventional runways) , B is STVOL variant, C is for Carrier cat & trap use.
Hey there! Great review! I would just like to know where you got the aircraft carrier from. Thanks!
Thanks. And this is the indiafoxtecho carrier. Due for release as soon as they fix what MSFS keeps breaking! check their facebook page
@@cgaviator It's been seven months however I don't see it on the market yet. Do you know if they ever released it?
@@braidendrozdowski9065 the Xbox version? I do believe it came out. Maybe not the carriers. But check their social media for the latest.
@@cgaviator yeah I have the F35 but no aircraft carrier made by them, only two others that I've been told are trash and not to get. Yes I play on Xbox so maybe that's it?
This looks really rather good, but I'm so frustrated by the amount of "work arounds" that seem to be necessary with MSFS2020. Hopefully things will improve this year!
Yup, always the case. Even P3D used workarounds in the form of 3rd party apps to get the best from it. Still… we live in hope!
dcs doesn't need work arounds
@@diegoruiz7600 largely true enough. But how old is DCS now?
@@cgaviator almost 14
Can’t wait to see what MSFS (or it’s replacement) looks like in 2034!
It's a super cat :)
what aircraft carria pack have you bougt in the video
Same developer as aircraft. The carrier pack not yet released.
Do the arresting cables and catapult work on console?
This is an old video, not sure what’s available for Xbox these days. The F35 I believe has an inbuilt function that can be used anywhere, rather than relying on cables.
@@cgaviator additional question does the f35 come with that carrier or is that a separate thing you bought
@@complacentnonsense3460 I had the pre release version at this time. I believe it’s still offered separately at a small price. You’d have to check the small print to be sure.
Will you get the aircraft carrier if you buy the f35 at the in game marketplace
Not sure, I’d check with official indiafoxtecho sources. I’m thinking not though
@@cgaviator got it, reply again if you do
@@MarylandBlades not sure I understand. I don’t know if you’d get the carriers
Does the catapult work on xbox series s on the uss george hw bush carrier as I can't seem to get it to work.
Pass, but the C model should have an inbuilt catapult, no?
Will this work for the same plane and pack on xbox ?@@cgaviator
How would you rate the flight model realistically on a scale of 1-10 to the real life aircraft
Having never flown the real aircraft I couldn’t really comment. It’s feels decent within the constraints of the sim. The hover transitions need a lot of work from the version I flew.
Is this coming to the xbox chris
Eventually. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates
Hay que mejorar el efecto de las suspensiones!!.
Do you have a LINK to for the carriers?
Not yet released. Check their Facebook 👍🏻
How is the flight model compared to dcs or something of this
It’s ok, better than the default F18. But MSFS flight dynamics are generally a bit gamey.
I don't know much about aircraft carrier operations, but do the Spams really operate aircraft with the carrier at anchor?? If the ship is underway, it would turn into wind and the relative speed of the ship gives a wind speed down the deck to assist in landing the aircraft.
The ultimate test is landing at night, onto a pitching deck - Force 9 and the ship in blackout lighting.
No, they don't operate landings stationary. The carrier is usually at around 11 knots and aligned so the wind direction flows down the angled deck. Optimal combined wind speed (carrier speed + wind speed) would be 22 to 32 knots.
@@TheSd1cko As I thought.
The developers recommend setting the wind to 25kt down the approach for authentic ground speeds. The carrier is static due to limitations in MSFS. DCS is still the platinum simulation for this scenario.
@@cgaviator definitely. Especially if you fly the Mariana's. It looks even better in DCS than it does in MSFS!!
How do you toggle the hook
Hook button left side of main screen
can you not stay in first person while launching and landing?
Commented on other comment! 😅
So I’m confused. We shouldn’t buy the one on the sim market? Where else can we get it? Also this is just a pre release version will we have to turn around and buy the full?
No, this video uses a pre release version. It is now fully released. You buy the full version, subject to any updates. I was stating an opinion. I much prefer buying from Orbx as the updates are managed much easier.
@@cgaviator thanks for the clarification!
The f35 b throttle won't work for me how can I fix this
That’s a bit of a vague issue. Care to elaborate on the symptoms?
I'm not sure you landed long - looks short to me, probably a 1 wire. That being said landing without use of the ball must be tricky so props to you for that, plus that pattern was a nice touch :)
Thanks 👍🏻 The replay was a short landing, this in cockpit attempt I think was long. But not LSO so no problem! 😂
@@cgaviator ah I must’ve gotten confused. I’d find it practically impossible to get a good landing without the ball, wonder if there will be a mod for that in MSFS
@@Uselessnoobcow the LSO function does work, I just had the audio muted. It’ll give basic call-outs.
@@cgaviator Lso maybe but the ball gives you more precise information
Wait is the contrails on landing for pc only?
This is an old version, model has been updated significantly from this so I don’t know for sure
@@cgaviator damm thank you anyway
I'm curious: is there a way to do this on XBOX now, in November 2022?
I thought this was available on Xbox, no?
@@cgaviator It is, and I think I have been able to answer my own question. I was confused because this particular aircraft carrier pack is not available through the Microsoft store. There are a couple of others available, and since, as I understand it, the ability to simulate carrier landing and take off is provided by the F-35 itself, this will work on the Xbox with those other carriers.
@@dillank3240 yup, that sounds about right 👍🏻
@@cgaviator by the way, thank you very much for the very clear explanation of how to do this. It is much appreciated! Your videos are great!
@@dillank3240 absolutely my pleasure!

600 feet downwind. staying at 800 puts you in potential confliction with aircraft entering the break
You’re not wrong, but I prefer 800ft, and it’s about as accurate as I could fly it! 😅
How did you get the aircraft carrier
From the developer. At the time they planned to sell the carriers separately which I believe they did for PC users. Not sure about Xbox.
@@cgaviator oh ok thank you
where do I buy the F-35C??
In sim Marketplace (without weapons) or Orbx.
Where can we get this carrier?
Not yet released. Freeware carriers available on flight sim.to
Does anybody else find the HUD's in MSFS are not very clear ? (Comparing to say DCS)
Have you updated it? Also, if you’re flying in a darker environment, switch it to night
@@cgaviator I'm finding that in bright day conditions the hud is very washed out - dark conditions are good, or is that realistic ?
@@rinzler9775 it can be, absolutely. If there’s too much direct sunlight it’ll be tough to see
Hm, No LBAR sign above AP sign
Will MSFS be getting combat or is this just more of the same?
Combat as in the likes of DCS? Nope. Maybe something if VRS Tacpack module comes out for MSFS (years from now I'm afraid), but for now this is just another toy like the current SuperHornet for MSFS.

F14 สำหรับ f-35c
I wonder how game developers know about the display, instruments and their function. I thought it was classified.
A lot of it is, but there’s some stuff out there. Many people have tried the demo sim so basic functions aren’t classified
@@cgaviator I know, I wasn't allowed to even see the cockpit. And the special helmet they wear, I think that's hard to simulate on a PC
The lack of a full function carrier was a great loss between FSX and MSFS 2020. While MSFS is visually more appealing and has some great features, FSX outclasses MSFS 2020 in many ways. For example, the trim functionality of MSFS is horrible. Don't get me wrong, I really like MSFS 2020, but it is more like an ongoing beta test.
Yeah, it’s such a behemoth that it would take years to produce something that’s 100%. Greg carriers are catching up. Static ones can have ILS and Tacan now. Just need the moving ones to pitch and roll as well as have the navaids ans we’ll be getting close!
@@cgaviator I don't really that the FSX carriers pitched and rolled, but they had working shuttle, deflectors, and other realistic components. I used to love hovering the Cub over the deck.
Where is the IFLOLS?
I honestly think if you want this level of detail, then you need to be flying in DCS
@@TheSd1cko I fly already on DCS since beginning
@@TestPilotVirtual same. I don't bother with military aircraft in MSFS for this very reason. It might look fantastic, but flight models and realism isn't a patch on DCS.
@@TheSd1cko Right? No shuttle, no arrestor gear, no IFOLS, no working deck crew and the systems of the birds are also lacking. MSFS is nice for some in between flying but i mainly stick with DCS.
Irony: CVN78 can't operate F-35C without a large number of upgrades to the ship's systems..
This one’s had the upgrades! It’ll eventually get cables! 😄
why wouldn’t you stay first person while landing
You can do as you wish 👍🏻
The wires and catapults are not modeled
Not yet. I believe they’re in progress
It’s Aitch, not Haitch!

😂
The better attempt being worse... u landed short of the wires there nearly missing the deck.
Slowly getting better-ish! 😅
Can’t believe people use this sim for carrier ops when there’s DCS out there.
That’s likely because it’s much simpler in this sim. Even I don’t frequent DCS as MSFS is much more in my comfort zone! 😅
DCS puts you on the radar dude...
Just can’t afford a PC
This is a great way for people to break the ice, then move to DCS if they choose.
Sim Supremacy. 😂 🤦🏻
Being an expert in dcs doesn’t mean you’ll be an expert carrier landing irl even if it’s more realistic than msfs.
I was able to land a c172 easily in msfs. I still had to learn to land a 172 irl. 👍

Haven’t looked closely to be honest. But thats what the staple represents
Not on-speed bruh!

It’s a decent job considering the limitations of MSFS. Hopefully they work there way to DCS level eventually.
