It's a good time to be a Beast Wars fan. A lot of core characters have had a modern updates. The new figures are really cool, but nothing can compare to the original Optimal Optimus in terms of size, features, and playability!
Still got him on the shelf. He's also the only one out of the line I would not get rid of... maybe because hes the only one out of the line that could stand on its own,😊. 2:32
To me, this sounds like a perfect "stars aligned" moment. You met Gary Chalk AND found a near mint in box Optimal Optimus on the same day. Know what you do now? A display case. Keep that picture Gary autographed with the boxed Optimal Optimus in the case to protect both.
It is so wild to see Beast Wars done in your style, I would love to see more, as I ADORE Beast Wars. It is peak Transformers. This is a dream come true! This for me is my holiest of grails, as I am collecting the whole Show Cast in original toy version, and i’ve got Season 1 completed, and Season 2 is mostly done, just need Rampage and Silverbolt, then its on to Season 3. Great work Micheal! Keep it Prime!
I use to have this and Megatrons. I ended up giving them to my friends' kids. I had to downsize to a camper and those things are huge. Sure wish i still had them. This was such a mind blowing moment in the series and peak Saturday morning entertainment
Hi Micheal, Great video about Transformers Beast Wars OPTIMAL OPTIMUS(1998 Super Class Transmetal) keep them coming, Also your latest video was outstanding, Also Transmetal Optimal Optimus is not only one of my best and most favorite Transformer Beast Wars character of all time but also one of my best and most favorite Maximal of all time, Also the Retro Review for Transmetal Optimal Optimus is quite Amazing, Also So Nostalgic. Beast Wars was a really good show and it's sad that at that point G.I. Joe, it's sister series, was dying out. Also Optimal Optimus Primal was 1 of the first Beast Wars transformers figures I've ever played aside from Transmetals Rhino and Quickstrike, Also Love beast wars, second favorite transformers show, Also I love Beast Wars! Being a 90's adult, it's what got me into Transformers, Also what a beauty. The remake Hasbro made is also cool. Also So glad you were able to bring Optimus home again, Mike! Also Thank you this video was amazing. Also I for one agree with Xayzl, This is a great companion video to your Garry Chalk interview, and that's just Prime.😎 Also Love Beast Wars, Also Thanks for sharing Micheal keep up the good work stay safe out there in Canada have a good day, Maximals Maximize and Nerdmaste.🙂🟢💪🦸🏋️❤️🤨😎✊🎆👊💪🎇 6:56 pm.
I had a collection of Beat Wars toys, including this one. It was quite impressive. I also wanted a Prime spark in the cockpit, and I found a blue plastic bead somewhere that looked great in there.
I recently completed this guy a few months ago. You have no clue how long I been wanting this guy since childhood. The absolute weight of the guy and play features made it well worth it. I love the LEDs on him too, talk about making him pop even more. Awesome video as always !
I like all of Primals looks a lot but I tend to consider this one my favorite. I was so happy to get the Power of the Primes version when it happened & even tho I don't tend to care about 3rd party stuff I do hope to get Primal Prime repaint of Iron Factorys pocket sized version when it comes out.
What a mint video. I was late to the BW collectors party. Never a fan of Optimal Optimus but this thing... This is amazing! How can a toy review make someone want to revisit the series again? Well done MM.
I still remember getting the the megatron varient of this (the red dragon) from kaybee toys. They had a stack of beastwars on the wall of megatron, tigerhawk, and optimal optimus. I wanted both but at the time I was more attracted to the red chromed megatron.
Ah, one of my top favorite Beast Wars figures. Sadly mine is missing his missles, hand gun, and a ejecting arm shield. I have the power of the primes version too, but still need to get the DNA Design upgrade kits to really complete it though. Hopefully sometime in the next couple of years or so we can get either a updated commander class version, or better yet a masterpiece OPTIMAL Optimus. That would just be Prime. LOL Thank you for openning this rare minty fresh figure so we could see it in all it's glory. It brings back all my childhood memories of enjoying this figure growing up. ❤😮😂
Oh the box wasn't sealed, but the previous owner hardly touched it so it's in amazing condition. I have put a few scrapes on it from futzing around with it. No regrets! 😁
I bought some of the transmetals in the late 90’s. I still have them but the only drawback is when the vac metal parts start to flake off you can’t stop it.
Optimal Optimus is coming to Age of the Primes, very soon. Optimal Optimus is the victim of the GPS, the Chrome problem. And finally Optimal Optimus will redeco as Primal Prime in the Beast Machines Exclusive.
i was wondering what was that thing in his chest...haha,very ingenious, and very cool review, i bought mine a few months ago in the box, complete, its amazing,i´m glad i have it,thank you for the video was very fun
my friend was at tf con Toronto this year and he ended up meeting Garry Chalk in the bathroom at the convention he said he was very nice but it was very unexpected and funny for the both of them
I believe this matrix scene helps explain why prime dies in 86. His spark is literally connected with the matrix, so when he passed it on he became one with it and lost his spark. I like to think Alpha Trion had to do this when he rebuilt Orion in order to save him.
My missing the cannons and attachment is prime head. So he now in beast mode. As for my Transmettle Megatron. He no longer able to transform lol. He glued together in beast mode only lol.
Awesome throw back to the 90’s beast wars. I just went into my storage and found mine mint in box…also have megatron (dragon) as well. Should I open them??
I know a lot of fans don't like this form for a variety of reasons but it's my second favorite form of Optimus Primal, after the original design of course. I was never a big fan of his first Transmetal design and that ugly monkey face in robot mode.
I loved watching this show after school and I bought this for my brother. He still has it displayed.
It was can't-miss tv. That 3rd season was incredible!
It's a good time to be a Beast Wars fan. A lot of core characters have had a modern updates. The new figures are really cool, but nothing can compare to the original Optimal Optimus in terms of size, features, and playability!
I took a long look at the Power of the Primes version and it looks really cool, but you're right, it doesn't top the original.
I wish Hasbro wanted to reissue the optimal Optimus. Maximize.
Still got him on the shelf. He's also the only one out of the line I would not get rid of... maybe because hes the only one out of the line that could stand on its own,😊. 2:32

Thanks! I'm going to keep it loose though, for easy futzing access. 😁
It was great to see the “metal” part of Transformers return to this era of Transformers giving us a glimpse of its resurgence! Cool review!

Great work Micheal! Keep it Prime!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it and so happy to finally do a Beast Wars review.
So glad you were able to bring Optimal Optimus home again, Mike!
Thanks! Even more special to have found it just minutes after meeting Mr. Chalk.
@@MichaelMercy Indeed, my friend. :)
Thank you this video was amazing.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
So Nostalgic. Beast Wars was a really good show and it's sad that at that point G.I.Joe , it's sister series, was dying out.
Yes! Beast wars!
Maximize! 🦍
I love Beast Wars! Being a 90s kid, It’s what got me into Transformers

This is a great companion video to your Garry Chalk interview, and that's just Prime 😎
Seat feet 🤦
I'll take monkey feets over seat feets any day.
Love beast wars, second favorite transformers show
And the G1 tie-in was mind blowing!

Congrats! Yeah lights add so much to larger toys. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Should be considered a grail figure for the BW generation.
one of my fav things I love is that the Russian Col. In stargate SG-1 is the Voice actor for Optimus Primal
I always loved how you do this videos
Thank you.
Nice job with the show clips
This is what $19.99 USD Transformer toy looked like in 1998.
what a beauty. the remake hasbro made is also cool.
Yeah, just wish that one had chromed parts like the original.
Nice. Did you know about the light up Matrix Core upgrades on eBay?
What a mint video. I was late to the BW collectors party. Never a fan of Optimal Optimus but this thing... This is amazing! How can a toy review make someone want to revisit the series again? Well done MM.
Thanks Audie! It was a great show, especially that third season. Great action, writing, voice acting and music.
Gary Chalk and Peter Cullen are legends
I still remember getting the the megatron varient of this (the red dragon) from kaybee toys. They had a stack of beastwars on the wall of megatron, tigerhawk, and optimal optimus. I wanted both but at the time I was more attracted to the red chromed megatron.
My pops got me one from a garage sale back in the day. I was confused for many years.
loved the show

Still thanks for bringing us this amazing review. I really appreciate it.
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it.
I bought some of the transmetals in the late 90’s. I still have them but the only drawback is when the vac metal parts start to flake off you can’t stop it.
Great video as always. After watching this, it made me pull mine of the display case and mess with it. A very neat toy indeed.
Right on! 👍 This thing was made to be maximized!
Optimal Optimus is coming to Age of the Primes, very soon.
Optimal Optimus is the victim of the GPS, the Chrome problem.
And finally Optimal Optimus will redeco as Primal Prime in the Beast Machines Exclusive.
I clench a bit during the transformation because it is also one of my favorite beasties and it look so mint!
It’s so funny hearing that even back then you couldn’t have wars in the title
Really cool video some years ago I found that bot in a flea market for 5$ but missing weapons and the robot head. But i put it in his primal mode.
I love this version of Optimus Primal. I don't have this toy but I have a die cast version!
Sounds like the titanium version.
This was such a grail in my collection. Along with rampage.
Love this quadruple changer bot (but expensive, lol)
Love beast wars
i was wondering what was that thing in his chest...haha,very ingenious, and very cool review, i bought mine a few months ago in the box, complete, its amazing,i´m glad i have it,thank you for the video was very fun
Congrats on finding one. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
I really miss the Beast Wars line and the various classes
The only Beast wars figure I have left is Rampage because he was the coolest and his introduction episode was based around a horror theme.
Optimal Optimus Primal was 1 of the first Beast Wars transformers figures I've ever played aside from Transmetals Rhinox and Quickstrike
my friend was at tf con Toronto this year and he ended up meeting Garry Chalk in the bathroom at the convention he said he was very nice but it was very unexpected and funny for the both of them
🤣
mine still has its original batteries, and they still work, despite the expiry label saying 2002 and the fact that they exploded once
Wow!
Aaron Archers podcast details how the originsl toy designers didnt want to make this figure. He had to step in himself
1998 still that cgi gave me max headroom vibes and Overlord
2:18 where did you get that poster??
From Mr. Chalk at TFCon.
I believe this matrix scene helps explain why prime dies in 86. His spark is literally connected with the matrix, so when he passed it on he became one with it and lost his spark. I like to think Alpha Trion had to do this when he rebuilt Orion in order to save him.
Great theory!
@@MichaelMercy Thanks, I think it gives an interesting perspective when rewatching the movie or beast wars
Cool.
I owned this fig and he was awesome
The figure is awesome. I do think he should have been Optimal Prime rather than "Optimal Optimus". That way he's an actual prime and not an imitator
Nice review! I had the red and blue variant of this but it didn’t survive the purge. Kinda regret reforming it.
Primal Prime! That's a nice one too. Looks more like G1 Optimus with those colours, but I've got a soft spot for orange and blue. 😁
My missing the cannons and attachment is prime head. So he now in beast mode. As for my Transmettle Megatron. He no longer able to transform lol. He glued together in beast mode only lol.
A part of me believed you would eventually reach Beast wars
But it’s still a little surprising
Taking care of all sorts of unfinished busines this year. 😁
Do all beast wars
Now I can stop saying "trukk not munky".
youre not going to do any of the transmetal megatrons?
I don't have them.
Ever think about doing the History of Beast wars series?
Yup, after I finish '89 to '95.
Awesome throw back to the 90’s beast wars. I just went into my storage and found mine mint in box…also have megatron (dragon) as well. Should I open them??
Thanks! That's up to you and only you. 👍
@@RatRacer503 from Tyrannosaurus Rex to metallic VTOL T-Rex followed by razor-sharp red dragon.
Don't do it😂😂😂
Legacy please give us a new one to go with that awesome dragon Megatron
If he were became a Prime, what would his name be?
I know a lot of fans don't like this form for a variety of reasons but it's my second favorite form of Optimus Primal, after the original design of course. I was never a big fan of his first Transmetal design and that ugly monkey face in robot mode.
