Hey angels happy Friday! Let’s talk about the morphe situation and the downfall coming for years. Also just a little reminder that you’re amazing, I’m so happy to have you here, I hope you guys are doing good. And I’m so thankful for each and every one of you 🥰
What I want to know: years ago I read an article talking about the founders and the huge mansion they bought in California (worth millions of dollars). After all this unethical and potentially illegal cluster of activities, do the founders just get to retire in said huge mansion and get a slap on the wrist from these lawsuits? I truly want to know this. I am not being “cute” or sarcastic; this is a genuine question. Thank you for all the info and your hard work, Isabella!!! 🤗
@@MissBeeeBeee honestly this is a great question. If they have enough $$ and if there’s an settlement they may just get a slap on the wrist like many people do. It’s truly upsetting. But that’s more than likely unless they’re not doing as good as we think financially. I’m not a professional in that area but with the patterns we see with horribly company owners getting away with things. They probably will
@@IsabellaLanter Exactly. Agreed. The way I see most of these things develop is infuriating. One example: I was very disappointed with the way the LulaRich documentary ended. If I remember correctly, they had to pay $5M and that was it. Five million dollars for them is what five dollars mean to me. That’s it?!! Doesn’t even count as a slap on the wrist. It’s more like “everything’s ok if you give us five bucks; is that ok with you??” 🙄
The problem with Morphe is they based their entire brand around influencers. Influencers come and go they don’t stay popular forever because most of them should have never been famous to begin with. Most of the influencers they were using started falling off and getting negative press. That is when their brand started to collapse.
yeah the only people I feel bad for are the employees that worked for Morphe who got screwed over. As a business & entity, I'm glad I never supported the business & stores itself.
During the golden age of youtube makeup influencers, I bought so many damn eye shadow pallets because I got swept up in the hype and felt like i had to catch them all like pokemon. Now I have more eye shadow than one person could ever use, and I feel like an idiot for wasting money on all this stuff. I genuinely do love makeup and getting creative with my eye shadow looks, but the amount of makeup I have from the hyper consumerist era of mid 2010s youtube is outrageous.
Omg, I said something similar in my comment lol. I agree that the number of makeup products that were sold in the 2010s was absolutely wild and there was so much hype around them that people wanted to buy them all. Tbh I'm glad we've moved past it.
I agree, I started watching beauty influencers during that time to learn how to do my makeup and it always seemed like there was always one more primer, or setting powder, or brush set that would be the key to getting their perfect makeup looks. Imagine my surprise when I found out how common it was to digitally enhance your pictures/videos.
The only thing I liked about my local Morphe was that the employees knew makeup. I don't know if they had good training or they just happened to hire people who were good at makeup but my morphe was really diverse and even employees with the complete opposite skin tone of mine could do a fantastic job of recommending colors that looked amazing on me (my local ulta seemed to only hire white, blonde women). I hope those employees are able to find new jobs they thrive in.
I’m so glad I followed the beauty community 2016-2019. I never was into makeup a ton but it was very entertaining to watch everything unfold and the consequences of choices made during that time.
All I remember from this era is watching influencers act like 21st century's ministrels: they couldnt not appropriate Black culture (following the successful of the OG culture vultures: the Kardashians, I suppose). It was a whole circus, that has been transfered to tik tok now. 🤡
I want to add here that the products being "not safe for eyes," according to US law, companies have to indicate on the product that this is the case. However in other countries like the UK, they don't have as strict of laws as we do so they don't have to put that on the label. These products though are typically fine on the eyes. Robert Welsh has covered this topic in a video about Huda Beauty.
This is a good point, having a product be safe for eyes (ie opthalmalgically tested, like eye drops) would be way more stringent then makeup that is to be worn ON the skin. (Like eyeshadow) I still can't wear eye makeup because my eyes are over sensitive and dumb, but I imagine most people would be ok.
@@Kayla_P99 because It’s Not really. If a person has a reacción to a certain product and they know they are allergic it is their duty to check ingredients and maintain their own health. However morphe SHOULDVE Also been more clear with their warnings and labels.
I was 14-16 when Morphe really started popping off (MannyMUA era) and really trusted the beauty community until dramagedon, so I forgot most of the prior scandals even happened. Thanks for shedding some light on this!
I never understood the hype over Morphe. Their eyeshadows are mediocre and have tons of fall-out. Their makeup brushes are comparable to Dollar Tree options.
Lol, hey, Dollar Tree had some great brushes at one point... They were like a Unicorn horn or some sht... They don't have the same ones anymore, but the eye shadow ones are still my favorite and I use them every single day! I'm just glad I was old enough to know better than to get caught up in hype and not waste my money on it. Because I would have easily been swept up in it and wasted much money if I was younger. I'm more sad that some great smaller, indie brands got pushed aside in that time, like Sugarpill or Make up Geek. And sadly, Make Up Geeks death blow was shut downs. I was super sad to hear her announce she was closing down last year. Loved loved Make Up Geek and that she didn't sell out. Nor did she mark up her prices to seem better... She was better, but at very affordable prices and that's what I also loved about it, lol! Sugarpill is still quietly going along, though. They just did a colab pallet W Trixie Matell & it's gorgeous. If it wasn't for Christmas just passing and time to pay those bills now, lol, I'd be grabbing that one for sure 😉
@@Em22-wtf I heard about those unicorn brushes, but never got to see them in person. Sorry, Dollar Tree! Lol My sister kept buying me Morphe individual brushes and brush sets for birthdays and Christmas. I always had to pick brush hairs off my face when I used them. The hair felt like textured plastic.....pretty much the opposite of what you want in a makeup brush. The eyeshadow fall-out was the killer for me. I spent more time cleaning up than applying makeup. I totally forgot about Makeup Geek. I remember she had some scandal too, but not anything huge. I can't remember what it was. That was years ago. I bought a couple of her eyeshadows and loved them.
I don't think it's possible to really understand it if you didn't experience the emergence of the Beauty RUclipsr. Like, the beginning of online beauty content where Mac was the only brand in existence and having a makeup collection in the double digits was unusual. Not the peak when Beauty RUclips became a thing everyone familiar with online culture knew about.
Back in the big makeup boom I swear their palette quality was wayyy better, my selling point on them as a college student was the fact that they offered palettes with lots of color options for just $25-30. I also feel that I was lucky thought b/c I much prefer metallic shadows to matte colors and their metallics is really where their formulas weren't too shabby imo. However I bought another palette from them a year or two ago and yeah I had to return it it was so bad lol they DEF got mediocre so I never turned back after that
I missed most of this drama because I lost interest in makeup during college between 2014 and 2019, so getting back to beauty RUclips after 6 years was a real shock 😆
Another reason I think makeup companies aren't doing well is that the, "buy all makeup products by x" hype is over. Throughout the entire 2010s people obsessed over makeup to an unhealthy amount (in my opinion. No shame because I did it too to an extent lol). There were so many makeup videos on RUclips, Instagram, and for a bit TikTok that it made people want to purchase more makeup. I mean we had celebrities pushing their products, constantly seeing full faces of makeup (which requires a lot of products hence needing to buy a lot), super creative makeup designs that were done all over a person's face/arms/body/etc., and a culture that promotes overconsumption. But recently we've gone away from that, and I think part of it is because of the pandemic. I've seen a rise in natural looks again and just everyone is exhausted from all the products being shoved down our throats and the time it takes to do a full face.
I think everyone got sucked into the maximalist mindset because all we could do was shop online, and now a lot of people are seeing how harmful overconsumism is and that consumers will only keep their daily makeup uses versus having dozen of products. Plus the rise of skincare and how every brand or celebrity will come out with a skincare line (Kim K and Trisha Paytas for example) because it's the current trend
@@irelandcook8298 That's true! I've seen a rise in celebrities and gurus saying skincare is more important than makeup. Which I don't necessarily hate because it's important to keep care of our skin, like using sunscreen often. However, I dislike how they all push 739248 steps in their routines and make their lines cost $$$$ when there are cheap dupes in drugstores. But I agree that we are seeing more celebrities focus on skincare now. Wonder what the next trend will be?
I was deeep into beautytube back in the day, bought Jeffree Star products at Morphe, but not actual Morphe-brand stuff. But then I changed industries (from music to an office job) and stopped wearing makeup out of laziness. Only last year did I rebuild a small full-face collection with 95% ColourPop. Morphe partnered with some CONTROVERSIAL folks and now they're paying for it.
The only thing I ever low key was hype for from Morphe were their brushes. They are still my go to even after collecting some more high end ones. I think it's horrible how they treated their employees and I will not be partaking in any further purchases to help them clear the stock the way they cleared those hardworking people.
I doubt anybody does. All this mess and they still charging full price for almost everything. Out of curiosity I check their website and the only items on sale are morphe x Jaclyn hill, morphe x Maddie Zeigler, morphe 2, Playa, and bad habit.
@Crystal Farmer Hmmm, interesting. A place going out of business would typically have everything liquidated. Maybe they have something else up their sleeve 🤔 👀
@ParisGrace you would think. I swear if they do this just to switch their business model to an mlm I will lose it. There has to be a reason to shut down but not liquidate.
So true about the massive production. New products launching every single week, inconsistent quality, etc. It’s hard to get excited about things when there’s 10 new palettes a month. I remember the last time I strolled through Ulta I was so shocked because I basically didn’t recognize any of the products or brands (I used to work at Ulta about 4 years ago). On top of an over saturated market almost everything I swatched was underwhelming.
I’ll tell you what, I loved some of my Coastal Scents stuff 😂 still use several of their brushes and had a couple of their palettes until about a year ago
Honestly 4 days is more than I've ever gotten during a lay off. If you're in an at will state they can drop you in a minute if they want to (as long as they can prove it wasn't discriminatory).
Also want to note that suddenly being fired when it wasn't expected is traumatic as fuck. If you are a main provider for your family or yourself, you're suddenly put in a position where you don't know where the next meal is coming from and that is scary.
As a Person from Germany This is Confusing as F. So Basically They Can Fire you at any moment without a reason?. But you get Like payed for the month right?.
@Aridana 💋 if you're in an "at will state", yes, they can just fire you with no warning and no reason; they just have to make sure to cover their bases so it doesn't look like they fired you for a discriminatory reason (gender, lgbtq status, etc). They'll have to pay out any PTO (paid time off, vacation time, sick time, etc) but any more than that is at the discretion of the company. It sounds like at Morphe some people got 2 weeks severance pay, which is likely the amount they would've made if they had worked for 2 weeks.
I've never been deep in the beauty community; I'm more of a peruser, but I have 100% noticed that the content style has changed SO much. It used to be that everyone was talking about the same new product (I specifically remember the Naked 3 pallet) that had just been launched, but now there are a million new launches every other day that it's not even possible to have everyone excited about a single product. Now it's more like everyone is introducing this one-off product from a business I've never heard of and saying that it's amazing and they are so glad they "found it". Idk, it's weird
I literally can’t believe they gave 3 weeks severance for like retail sales positions. I think the employees actually got lucky, that does not usually happen.
I think its interesting that not only is Morphe still selling their stuff at full price online, but so is Ulta. If they have any prayer of selling off their products they better start dropping them prices.
Apparently BH Cosmetics is closing up shop too … if they’d hooked up with Angelica sooner … Great video! Never understood the Morphe hype even though I bought a lot of their palettes (that I never used). They really confuse me.
Look at all these OG beauty guru's faces. They have all changed so much! Also, what are they up to these days? I hear Jeffrey Star lives on a ranch in the Rockies. Wild. 😲
Morphe now seems more widely available in stores here in the UK, I’ve saw them in boots, if it had been a few years ago I would have probably bought something, I was about to buy the James Charles Palette on cult beauty or beauty bay and then opted to buy instead a couple of colabs Makeup Revolution did with a couple UK RUclipsrs that were cheaper and also more practical to use.
12:25 it's totally ok to use on your eyes lol. It's just going to stain your eyes a little bit. If you watch the channel Jen luv she talks alot about it and regulations etc
I remember buying only one palette from Morphe, and I was SO excited. It was Pony’s Icy Fantasy Artistry Palette, a beautiful pastel kbeauty dream… Okay my skin is white white white, and I used a primer, but those shadows? A whisper of color. A la croix of pastels. It was awful. And when I complained they said that it was my fault because I didn’t know how to work with pastels. 🥴 I feel so bad for these employees- what a sleezy thing to do to your team. ☹️
So true about Colourpop :( Morphe was also the first company that I really started to experiment with makeup with and in that 2016 era I really enjoyed the quality and price. However, I bought a new palette from them not too long ago and it was atrocious quality I had to return it. And Colourpop can be the same way, but you're right in that in the past year or two they've just exploded in quantity of releases and out of all those collabs or releases, they're lucky if one or two of them are somewhat decent. It truly is exhausting and no one needs that much makeup so idk how they're not constantly losing money on having so many lines and collections b/c they have to target such a small portion of people for each one since no one is going to buy ALL of it there's just no way. Obviously just poor business decisions from someone higher up and I'll be sad to see some of the last affordable brands go out like this, it was so avoidable
one of my favorite and most flattering lip colors i found was from colourpop years ago! it was basically a “dupe” of the limited edition star wars and covergirl lipstick from 2015 or so. but they got rid of the color so long ago. it’s so hard to find a similar color since then :(( and i love colourpop, but them letting go of products that aren’t in a collection or licensed collab to pump out gimmicky palettes is so sad. i love colourpop and will most likely continue to buy a lot of their products, but it’s hard to find things i like and feel confident in when i have to do work all over again when something i love gets discontinued after six months maximum.
Quick note about the pressed pigment vs eyeshadow. Normally, the pigments are safe though they can cause some staining, and they are legal in the EU (which has stricter rules than the US). Anyone can have an allergic reaction to anything and you can develop an allergy to something you used to use regularly. Now I did hear of someone having a reaction to sketchy Mary Kay eyeshadow, so I would totally believe that there was a quality or contaminants issue separate from and in addition to the pigments. And I would also believe that they didn't label their red pigments well enough and people were shocked by staining. I have an UD palette and there is a divider clearly marking the pigments as separate from the regular eyeshadow, but I doubt Morphe went to that much effort. I haven't bought from Morphe since the Kathleen Lights collab palette (I honestly hated the quality and the color combos both - turns out I'm not a mauve person). I still have and use some brushes though. They're a pretty sketchy company imo.
Completely unrelated but that happened to me once when I was a server... one Friday night was told we have an emergency meeting the next day and yeah emergency meeting was telling us the restaurant is closing and we're all SOL.🤣 I'm not sure how that's legal
Ngl I clicked on this because I use a Morphe palette almost every day 😂 I agree with all of this and I really like listening to you. The fallout is awful 😭 side note: I haven't supported this company for awhile I got these second hand
Lol sorry another comment It's kind of strange how brands like morphe had such a hard fall It's almost like any brand that pops off at the beginning doesn't last very long but if a brand takes years to create, they last forever . Weird hey
i know you mentioned making a james charles deep dive but i would also love love for you to make one on jeffree star if you would ever be interested in it!! he has so many problematic scandals and associates with so many terrible people (even after publicly accusing them of being terrible and accusing them of CRIMES) including someone CHRIS HANSEN did a whole investigation on
If Jeffree Star could be the next brand to close, thus shoving him into the void, that'd be great.... I would feel bad for his employees losing their job though. But let's be real, working for almost any other brand would be a step up!
Great video! Loved hearing your thoughts on Morphe but I’ll definitely need you to make a video on Colourpop next 😂 The only thing I ever bought from Morphe is a handful of brushes. Before Morphe was HUGE, I bought some palettes similar to them from BH Cosmetics when I was in my earlier teens. I always enjoyed beauty gurus but never really fell into the trap of buying their recommendations but I know what I’ll actually use. I’m a pretty simple/ basic makeup wearer and don’t wear any crazy colors or use out there products. I’m also kinda of frugal so I would rather die than spend $45 on a mascara. I grew up on Walmart everything so I know that if I need/want anything that I could find something good at the drugstore. Like I said, I haven’t bought too much Morphe but I do enjoy some of Colourpop’s products. I use a handful things from their brand but nothing is a must have. I really hate how much they collab with creators and franchises because nothing is even exciting anymore. Everything has been done. It really seems like the brand lacks identity and purpose. The whole business needs to be gutted and restarted.
I have seen the videos they are lucky they got a notice and severance many times you have to fight to even get paid for the work you did before they locked the doors. When companies like this close
Friends & I where talking about corps./ companies that seem to only concentrating on short term profits. Not even giving a 2nd thought to long term profits, not even a little bit. From their marketing, to the products, & to the way they treat their employees. To put in a short & simple term, for example no one, even hire ups, can stay or want to stay at one company for a long period of time. Companies know that the longer you are there the more the have to pay you. So as soon as you start rightfully so, wanting a raise, they can get rid of you & hire someone for alot less, & its a revolving door. So if you get a person who knows they are only going to stay for example 2 to 5 years. What they are are going to do, is only worry about the short term numbers while they are there. There is no insensitive or loyalty to even worry about long term. Why should they?? They know they are not going to be there, & the company itself doesn't have any loyalty to their employees. Doesn't matter how great you are at your job/career. This actually not something I am making up , there are studies on this. It's a Damme shame. I think this needs to change. Listen I might just sound like a cranky old person, but here is the thing, we all age. Therefore we all should think of our future. Yes, maybe you are young & might even think its fun , jumping from job to job to job. As you get older, you want to get paid for what you are worth, & have some type of stability in your life. Corp./ companies right now are all about short term profits. Again a Damme shame 😔
I got into makeup in 2020, so Morphe was on a decline and I never really got the urge to get their palettes except for like 3 in totally due to the color story. I was thinking about getting the 2 Jacklyn palettes, the pink one was just released and I kept on hearing good things about the 1st, but then YTers were talking about the reformulation in the 1st one and it just kept on going down hill from there. I do have 1 glitter/shimmer applicator that's Morphe's because I was looking something like it exactly, and it's okay. I wanted to try it because I heard that those types of brushes were meant for shimmers and it didn't work for me. I don't even know where that brush is atm, and I'm not too sad if I don't find it again.
I got a morphe palette back when I was in college in 2015, during their beginning days and it was horrendous. It was the 35T and I remember KathleenLights and Jaclyn Hill both raving about it, and I saved all my money up to get it. The shades blended together, barely showed up when they did show up, and i couldn't even return it. I gave it to a friend who had the same thoughts and she threw it away. Morphe has never been good to me. I got the Jaclyn Hill palette and tried it for my wedding makeup and had to fix my eyeshadow with a secondary palette.
Yeah that would be a big hard pass for me packing up the store. If I show up the last week, it’s to sit on TikTok. I’m not doing actual work when my job is winding down 😂😂
I still use a few of my Morphe brushes. They had several that were really good. I don’t have one specific brand of brushes that I prefer. I like Sigma, Wayne Goss and for foundation my favorite brush is It Cosmetics Love is Foundation Brush. I buy 2 every year when they release it. It’s a yearly LTO brush and it applies foundation like a dream. I feel so bad for the employees. I see that a few people already addressed the pressed pigments issue, so I won’t repeat the comment. Take care everyone!
Colour pop was not what I was expecting. My first purchase was the Harry Potter collection and I was let down in the quality. I still love it but I was expecting more.
I feel like we’re gonna see some lawsuits come to the surface, especially after how they handled letting their staff know they wouldn’t have a job. They had a chokehold on the beauty community for it being so cheap but I remember the makeup being horrible and a waste. The brushes were also inconsistent- some completely fell apart in weeks and some have held up for the 5-6 years I’ve had them. Even recently I picked up a Morphe2 product similar to what Kaja does, but the makeup is still massively mediocre
Im real sick of all the launches lately too , not in makeup but in activewear. All these influencer brands continue to raise their prices, quality and customer service has down, launches are way too frequent, and Amazon has good dupes. Just waiting for the companies to tank! And so many people have provided that feedback too and they just ignore it
I also feel like with all the hype these big brands created, they completely drowned out and ultimately crushed the smaller, indie (and amazing) brands like Sugarpill & Make Up Geek. Not that they weren't popular in their own way, Sugarpill is still quietly out here, launching new stuff, but not as loudly with every make up chnl ever to breath on YT testing, reviewing, trying, etc.... Sugarpill just did a collab with Trixie Mattel, which kind of makes me nervous, lol, because I hope they don't start picking up where these other brands left off and start doing cheesy launches every week, lol! The pallet is gorgeous though.... And then there is Make Up Geek, who I was soooo bummed to learn closed up shop last year 😭 She stayed RELATIVELY small and away from the new launch every week model, she did get into a little drama here and there, but not bad.... I believe it was actually shut downs that did her company in, between shut downs, and trouble on the manufacturing end of things, not being able to get products needed, shipping being terrible the year before last... All those problems caused her to just close up shop. But at least she went out with her business in tact & not sunk after she sold it off, I think I'd have been even more sad to see that. Talk about fantastic, affordable mascara! I sticker up last yr, right after she announced Make Up Geek was done, everything would be marked down til it was gone and at $12 a tube, I have ONE unopened left and one that probably halfway through 😭 same with her eyeliner. I don't know what I'm going to do once those two are gone 🙁 But I feel like these big brands crushed the smaller ones out, and now the big ones are taking a hit... Maybe it's a good thing... Because I'm kind of excited to see what's next for the make up world. I feel it's been very BLAH for the last couple of years and we need some fresh new brands, new ideas, new SOMETHING...
I bought volume 2 last year and the brushes bro they sucked right off the bat but I’m so cheap I’ve been using it and it’s so hard to make a decent look. Shades don’t blend at all other than the pink which STAINS your eyelids!
In Australia Morphe is sold through Mecca and the mark up on some of their products is ridiculous, especially when the quality is just not there. I can easily buy drug store products that are better quality for the same price and I'm sure in the states where brands like Milani, essence and wet and wild are easier and cheaper to purchase, why would you spend $25 for a sub par blush. Or $95 AUD for the Morphe x Ariel Signature face brush set?!
I have only ever purchased a few morphe palettes and was never impressed with them. I literally sold them - I never understood how people could rave about this brand when you can get other products (for a better price) that is WAY better.
I know in Atlanta their is only 1 Morphe store and it's located in the most expensive, high end mall possible. The mall is hard to get to, get into and navigate. In my personal opinion they would've done better to have chosen a better location at least in the metro area.
Yeah. Mostly legal because of the damn influencers being so full of themselves and taking advantage of Morphe’s willingness to work with them. But then again I’m no longer a supporter because they just dropped their employees without notice or extra cash
When it comes to pressed pigments, those disclaimers are required to do it because the ingredients that make it vegan is not approved for the eye by the FDA, but is approved for the eye by other regulatory authorities like the E.U. I work in FDA compliance, and when it comes to approving ingredients, Cosmetics are kind of on the bottom of the priority list, as pharmaceuticals, supplements, food, medical devices.. those tend to be priority, and so they are slow to keep up with other countries when it comes to cosmetic ingredients.
I hate that their colour pencils are my ultimate fave lip liner....if anyone knows a dupe for that formula (or the shade 'bae'), I'll be eternally grateful...
I agree it sucks for the employees but I’m sorry no one is ever informed ahead of time they are being laid off. The majority of the time, you get to your job in the morning and are shortly after told you are being let go and pack your stuff and leave, with no severance…it’s just simply the way businesses operate whether it’s fair or not. As Jen Luv always says business are not people
I loved your video and perspective, but one thing I will personally say is that the downfall of Morphe isn't surprising whatsoever. Stephanie Nicole did a brilliant in-depth video on Morphe and talked about how they're little more than a private labelled makeup brand that invested in influencers and collaborations over quality makeup products. There's no need to invest in quality when the influencers and hype sell the makeup for you. (Boy, I miss Stephanie but respect her choice to kinda just ditch RUclips for good.) Anyways, time went on, Dramageddon happened, the pandemic happened, and I feel like everyone changed their interests. Why invest in Morphe when reputable drugstore brands are delivering better quality at a cheaper price? Why do we need a million makeup palettes when we really only need one or two really good ones that we can wear for everything? I'm honestly glad we got out of the consumerism hype and we're focused on just investing in quality products that work with everything. Let's invest that same energy toward fashion!
There’s a reason why drugstore brands are still in business after many decades. Revlon, maybelline, wet and wild, covergirl ,etc. these influencers won’t be influential for long either will their products unless the make some drastic changes
Personally never liked Morphe and this just proves why... Always felt like Aliexpress makeup. Btw, anyome know why she holds her mic instead of just setting it up on a stand...? Always wondered that since you hear feedback noise often from it being held and moved around 🤔
Jeffree and morphe was more then a calab. Jeffree actually owned part of the busn, he either was a silent partner or investor or had shares. They actually dropped him quick. Everyone else they too their sweet time with.
Morphe most definitely lost a lot of customers or potential customers when they kept selling the James Charles palette instead of just throwing it and writing it out as a mistake, they would have lost less throwing out the inventory than they did continuing the sale. As for the pressed pigment thing, this is liter a USA FDA thing, the FDA is very behind on pigments being safe. These are all pigments 100% safe around the world but in the USA. Other brands are currently in hot water over the same thing.
One thing g that really bothered me about Jeffrey and why I stopped watching his videos is the endless push to consume and never being satisfied with what you have. After a while it just felt empty
wow sad. I feel they could just reconfigure and be ok. Close some stores and consolidate, and just be in sephora/ulta vs stand alone. I actually liked their brushes....sad
Well… I have a handful of products and a good bit of their brushes. I’m not going to throw them out in order to not be wasteful, but not talk about their brand by name when making beauty content I guess.
pressed pigments arent actually as bad as yall say they are, it has to do with the difference between europe and americas laws, they use them in europe without issue.
I’m old enough to have been around when Jeffree originally blew up on MySpace… I CANNOT UNDERSTAND how he has stuck around this long and still has a job… non-white people with lesser controversies get blacklisted 🤬
I got Jaclyn’s original Morphe palette and I absolutely loved it. The palettes that came after were not remotely the same imo. If I remember correctly they even quietly reformulated the original palette too. I’m not 100% which YTer it was but I think her name was Jen did a huge deep dive into it. Lots of swatches and performance tests as well as just a basic comparison between the ingredient lists (which were different) but when she emailed Morphe with the conflicting ingredient lists they just denied it over and over. Like okay so you’re lying now or you lied on one of the ingredient lists?
Like others in the comments, I never understood Morphe. I tried one of their palettes and the eyeshadows didn't blend and colour payoff wasn't great. Compared to other budget brands like Revolution Beauty, they were mediocre at best. The palettes so so overpriced for something that was screenprinted generic mass produced China make. It just is an indication as how bad consumer culture and hype is.

It’s very sad for everyone who just had lost their job at Morphe. I wish them the best.
Yes, what a brutal and cruel thing to learn, that they have lost their jobs.
yeah the only people I feel bad for are the employees that worked for Morphe who got screwed over.
Tbh I'm glad we've moved past it.
thankfully I was still a child/teenager in the 2010’s, so I couldn’t have any morphe palettes. I just admired from a distance.
I got rid of my eyeshadow palettes. I only have two left from ABH. The colors are perfect for me and it’s all I need.
I agree, I started watching beauty influencers during that time to learn how to do my makeup and it always seemed like there was always one more primer, or setting powder, or brush set that would be the key to getting their perfect makeup looks. Imagine my surprise when I found out how common it was to digitally enhance your pictures/videos.
have you ever thought about donating them?
The only thing I liked about my local Morphe was that the employees knew makeup. I don't know if they had good training or they just happened to hire people who were good at makeup but my morphe was really diverse and even employees with the complete opposite skin tone of mine could do a fantastic job of recommending colors that looked amazing on me (my local ulta seemed to only hire white, blonde women). I hope those employees are able to find new jobs they thrive in.
They’d do so good with MAC, Bobbi Brown, or Chanel.
🤡
It was a lot of fun to watch.
I remember when Morphe was every MUA’s affiliate, it’s interesting to see it’s progression.
(Like eyeshadow)
I still can't wear eye makeup because my eyes are over sensitive and dumb, but I imagine most people would be ok.
Yes! This! The difference is largely in regulation processes, guidelines, and local laws, not necessarily the safety of the product.
It's because the fda considers staining dangerous/ damaging where the eu does not
@@Kayla_P99 because It’s Not really. If a person has a reacción to a certain product and they know they are allergic it is their duty to check ingredients and maintain their own health. However morphe SHOULDVE Also been more clear with their warnings and labels.
@_TSC_46 no I know it's not a real detriment but that is the thought process difference.
Lol
My sister kept buying me Morphe individual brushes and brush sets for birthdays and Christmas.
I love dollar tree brushes lol, they're great
Back in the big makeup boom I swear their palette quality was wayyy better, my selling point on them as a college student was the fact that they offered palettes with lots of color options for just $25-30. I also feel that I was lucky thought b/c I much prefer metallic shadows to matte colors and their metallics is really where their formulas weren't too shabby imo. However I bought another palette from them a year or two ago and yeah I had to return it it was so bad lol they DEF got mediocre so I never turned back after that
I remember buying color pop and getting hand written notes from them and the product would come in USPS flat rate boxes.
🖤 even though I already watched three other videos about this I’m still gonna come and watch yours because I know you’re gonna do it amazingly
This must be big news 😂
@Crystal Farmer Ooo you got an interesting theory there 👀 Wouldn't that be some $*!t if they turned into an MLM.
When morphe first entered the market, we loved it because it was a step up from Coastal Scents. That’s why we liked it.
I’ll tell you what, I loved some of my Coastal Scents stuff 😂 still use several of their brushes and had a couple of their palettes until about a year ago
omg coastal scents is such a throwback
I am so excited for this video!!
I feel bad for all the employees and companies they bought. They all got screwed over :(
I think its interesting that not only is Morphe still selling their stuff at full price online, but so is Ulta. If they have any prayer of selling off their products they better start dropping them prices.
The online store, it seems, they are determined to keep. Im betting on a behind the scenes buyout between Morphe and Ulta.
I love the sweater Isabella ❤!
Apparently BH Cosmetics is closing up shop too … if they’d hooked up with Angelica sooner … Great video! Never understood the Morphe hype even though I bought a lot of their palettes (that I never used). They really confuse me.
Yah!!! I've been wating for this.
I've never tried Morphe products. I totally agree with you about too many launches and hype xxx
Great vid and I like your shirt!
I hope you do a deep dive on ColourPop because there's something off about how they operate
Love make up revolution. Quality stuff for the price point.
12:25 it's totally ok to use on your eyes lol. It's just going to stain your eyes a little bit. If you watch the channel Jen luv she talks alot about it and regulations etc
I remember buying only one palette from Morphe, and I was SO excited. It was Pony’s Icy Fantasy Artistry Palette, a beautiful pastel kbeauty dream…
Okay my skin is white white white, and I used a primer, but those shadows? A whisper of color. A la croix of pastels. It was awful.
And when I complained they said that it was my fault because I didn’t know how to work with pastels. 🥴
I feel so bad for these employees- what a sleezy thing to do to your team. ☹️
I’ve been devouring all the content about this 🎉 My job is making cuts too 🙏
Wore makeup since I was a kid and I’m now going back to the brands I used to love at like 13
Literally never heard of this but I'm here for the 🍵
This is SO sad for their employees! 😢
The only makeup line I truly adore is R.E.M. Ariana has done such an amazing job with her cosmetic line.
The fallout is awful 😭
side note: I haven't supported this company for awhile I got these second hand
Lol sorry another comment
It's kind of strange how brands like morphe had such a hard fall
It's almost like any brand that pops off at the beginning doesn't last very long but if a brand takes years to create, they last forever . Weird hey
i know you mentioned making a james charles deep dive but i would also love love for you to make one on jeffree star if you would ever be interested in it!! he has so many problematic scandals and associates with so many terrible people (even after publicly accusing them of being terrible and accusing them of CRIMES) including someone CHRIS HANSEN did a whole investigation on
Yes I agree! I would love to see a video on this!
If Jeffree Star could be the next brand to close, thus shoving him into the void, that'd be great....
I would feel bad for his employees losing their job though. But let's be real, working for almost any other brand would be a step up!
@@rditty11 yeah i simply cannot imagine him fostering a positive office culture 💀
Great video! Loved hearing your thoughts on Morphe but I’ll definitely need you to make a video on Colourpop next 😂
The only thing I ever bought from Morphe is a handful of brushes.
I bought some brushes expecting at LEAST elf level and they were terrible and I threw them away
Heads up, those pigments are approved for eye use in many European markets
Their relationship to influencers and our sad and unhealthy desire to consume anything influencers touch have kept them open this long.
Just a year later hoping things get better
The vault collection was her second collection with morphe, and the big colorful palette was the third collection. Just wanted to let you know
Yeah that would be a big hard pass for me packing up the store.
Oh wow I didn't know you started as a beauty channel!!
Colour pop was not what I was expecting. My first purchase was the Harry Potter collection and I was let down in the quality. I still love it but I was expecting more.
Colour Pop shadows are bad. So much fallout and it fell apart. I had to throw it away. They had a lip balm that was awesome, they never restocked it.
And so many people have provided that feedback too and they just ignore it
Yes!!!
I love morphe 😮❤ I’ve been using there eyebrow pencils for years it’s the only one I like !!
I don't know what I'm going to do once those two are gone 🙁
But I feel like these big brands crushed the smaller ones out, and now the big ones are taking a hit... Maybe it's a good thing... Because I'm kind of excited to see what's next for the make up world. I feel it's been very BLAH for the last couple of years and we need some fresh new brands, new ideas, new SOMETHING...
I have to disagree. These companies and influencers used, abused and scammed their costumers.
MUG was literally my absolute fave makeup. So sad to see her close
I get my makeup from places like Walmart, but I had no idea morphe doesn’t exist anymore 😂
I just remember the time phrase “morphe pallet”
It's often for legal/financial reasons a company has to pull the plug so quick.
Yeah. Mostly legal because of the damn influencers being so full of themselves and taking advantage of Morphe’s willingness to work with them. But then again I’m no longer a supporter because they just dropped their employees without notice or extra cash
@@Karrambide Um... what?
Im shocked!!!
As Jen Luv always says business are not people
*Me looking at all my makeup brushes and seeing that they’re all Morphe* ‘OH FUCK’
Honestly I do own morphe product but it was only ever gifted. Never purchased from them before myself
I would love a James Charles video. Awesome
And this is why a 2 weeks notice when leaving a job is bs. They wouldn't even let them know ahead of time this was coming.
I completely forgot about morphe omg
Marlena Stell created those codes in the first place. Another company Jaclyn at best did wrong, at worst screwed then over hard.
She had amazing content! I often think about her when I’m on the ‘tube and hope she is doing well!
There’s a reason why drugstore brands are still in business after many decades. Revlon, maybelline, wet and wild, covergirl ,etc.
these influencers won’t be influential for long either will their products unless the make some drastic changes
All those influencer discount codes were their downfall 😂
Ahhhh I love you shirt
Personally never liked Morphe and this just proves why... Always felt like Aliexpress makeup.
Btw, anyome know why she holds her mic instead of just setting it up on a stand...? Always wondered that since you hear feedback noise often from it being held and moved around 🤔
Jeffree and morphe was more then a calab. Jeffree actually owned part of the busn, he either was a silent partner or investor or had shares. They actually dropped him quick. Everyone else they too their sweet time with.
Im quietly thinking that Ulta and Morphe are about to team up or merge.
We didn’t even have a morphe store. There really was no point since últa and Sephora had their stuff or similar.
One thing g that really bothered me about Jeffrey and why I stopped watching his videos is the endless push to consume and never being satisfied with what you have. After a while it just felt empty
those workers all should have received a month's notice and a 7k severance pay
wow sad. I feel they could just reconfigure and be ok. Close some stores and consolidate, and just be in sephora/ulta vs stand alone. I actually liked their brushes....sad
Unfortunately this is a corporate reality they will give u a minutes notice at times
I am too old for the morphe brand. Guess I lucked out.
I loved this brand. What they did is disgusting and I won't support them anymore. Sephora should drop them.
Ahhh...I miss the beauty guru/influencer heyday. It was better than soap operas. 🤣
