I've watched many woodworking videos today and not one got a subscribe out of me. You didn't do anything impossible, You didn't dazzle us with motivating music, You didn't use lingo to prove your wood prowess. You made an amazing video that will inspire normal wood workers - like me. Thanks. I really enjoyed your format.
It's the main reason I like watching Ben's worx. He uses everyday tools so makes the viewer feel like they can do this themselves at home. Love his channel
Tools are important but knowing how to use them is just as important. You word smoothly and quietly. I learn as I watch different ones. Some use a lot of colored resin and others none at all. Mr Eman is looking for perfection where none was offered. Personally I thought it was a masterpiece. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is well because There is only one of each of us. I love miniatures and the box was close enough. Many blessings
I'm born and raised Tx. It's a Family Tradition to cook with Mosquite. I the last 5 years after back going out from building homes since I was 17 . Started making knifes. What better prettier wood for handles than old Mosquite firewood , its dried out and ready.
Just came across this one while mucking about on Facebook. I use firewood in my wood turning all the time. This is a wonderful little box for a lockdown project. Thanks for posting, Ben.
thank you sooooo much..ive been looking for something exactly like this not a whole lot of equipment just str8 to the point. Best vid i watched all month!!!!!!!!!!
Ben, great video and project. That piece of fire wood you picked out is absolutely beautiful and your box turned out great. Love projects like this where you take scrap fire wood and turn it into a piece of art. Well done!
Now I have a good excuse to buy the hand held power planer. up to this point I just couldn't justify buying it. That's what I've been missing in the process. I was given some already split "fire wood" in which i found a few pieces of dark walnut that I've been trying to salvage. The hand held power planer will get me a 90 degree angle much quicker than the process that I've been using. Cool Idea.
That Scandanavian oil really brought out the texture of the wood. Honestly, a fabulous choice. I had wondered why you hadn't faced it off with a different saw instead of the planer in the beginning. But that would of taken more of the meat of the wood you wanted for the finish I'm guessing?
Very nice work. The timber looks quite similar to the Salmon Gum locally sourced around here (WA Goldfields). I went out and cut about half a tonne for wood working last week (the stuff in the firewood pile has too many splits & cracks in it). Very hard and dense wood, but turns up well on the lathe. I might try making a box like that. Don't have a bench saw, so I'll have to use the band saw and have a think about what type of corner joints - but I do like the style of that box very much.
Hehe, Redgum "firewood" is some of the nicest firewood you can find. I often wonder how big the tree was before they chopped it up into firewood sizes.
I am new to the crafting industry so i want to ask that what is the difference between firewood vs the wood we cut from tree like can we not simply cut a tree chop it down and use that wood for crafting different projects and items
You sure that was "fire wood" or a curly red wood lol!!! I'd be going back to the wood pile and getting all of that same wood!!! That's some pretty good quality curling, and you definitely have the skills and the tools to process that wood! If you go out to get more fire wood and cut a tree down, make sure to claim the crotch lol! Best chance for the nice figured grain pattern and possibly some spalting! Awesome project and great to see your subscribers going up!! I think it might've been the Goldie locks from Thor's hammer build lol
+Phillip Taylor Hi Phillip, i was really surprised how good the wood was, I believe it's Red Gum and I've been burning it all winter :0 . Let's just say there's no more left in the firewood pile it's all in my workshop :) ..... Yes it's nice to see people reacting to my videos, alot of hard work and late nights editing seems to be paying off or maybe it is the Golden Curls of Thor lol
Ben's Worx that's awesome! Even if it wasn't curly, I wouldn't be using it for firewood! The colors are awesome! I'd definitely keep an eye out for more of the red gum firewood! What type of wood chisels do you use? I'm going to be trying to make some dovetails without any power tools lol
+Phillip Taylor i just got a cheap set from Bunnings, I generally don't do much chiseling but goodluck with yours. send me some pictures when your finished I'd like to see how they turn out
@@BensWorx okay Ben I'll let you off, I was thinking a piano hinge would look alright on the box I think you can get them in a smaller size, probably would have to get something like that from a model making suppliers. Lovely job on the box Ben.👍
Ben, first off... That's an awesome little piece you created! Secondly, I'm not being a smartass at all but I'm honestly wondering, how well will that piece hold up against moisture fluctuations, seasonal changes etc.? I've never worked with anything other than kiln dried lumber.
Now that I have watched the entire video, I paused the video once I saw the bark and you planing it. Was that really "firewood"???? The bark has a clear sign of curling! You didn't trick us and went out and bought a quarter spindle of turning red wood 😂??? I ain't mad atch ya if you did, your craftsmanship is top notch! Do you know what species of wood that is? It's a beautiful piece of wood, the different tones of red
+Phillip Taylor Hahaha nah trust me i paid $100 for 1m3 of firewood and that was in it. It's a very common wood for firewood in Australia. I'm not too sure on species it's not my strong point, I'm glad you enjoyed it
Ben's Worx haha, next time you need to ask for just that wood! Tell them you enjoy the smell of it burning 😂... It'd be awesome if you could get some logs of it, maybe for a cheaper price? Or if you go and get it, ask if you can search the firewood... it's a shame that they are just cutting it up, maybe they would give you some bigger pieces if you tell them what they can look for and make more money keeping them whole than making firewood out of it. Off to eBay I go, gonna see if I can find some! Would go great with some of my other curls and fiddlebacks
We call the pattern "fiddleback" and its definately regum, although not all regum is fiddleback. Hope that's helpful. :D I'm guessing you live in Victoria Ben? If so, i can give you some more bits like this if you want em, i hate cutting nice trees into firewood... I mill them when possible with a Lucas or even an Alaskan mill .
That's a nice box but the clickbait title "TURNING FIREWOOD INTO A MASTERPIECE" is why RUclips is going down : this is not a masterpiece, it's a nice little box, and this is not firewood. Your video is cool, but using a stupid clickbait title with capslock is just lame.

Just found this. Excellent video with no nonsense and no annoying music! Thank you!

That is Flocking Beautiful Figure!
Great save. Way too good for the fire pit 👌🏼

I love the corners. I will try to do that for a box.

nice, I turn masterpieces into firewood.. not the same but..
Great work. You knew there was something beautiful hiding in that piece of firewood and with the skills you have you released it. Awesome.
Thanks Kenneth!
Beautiful work ... Really stunning...
That tiny box sure got a lot of your attention! Good job on the box and the video!
+Brian Lueders Thanks Brian :)
Nicely done Ben. Redgum looks great when the oil is applied.

+Chris Jaussi Thanks Chris! :) I really loved how the grain turned out.
Chris Jaussi
Such a lovely piece, thank god you saved it from the fire
Thanks Cathy! :)
Right out of the gate, I got a great idea from your video. Using my cheap planer instead of table saw to get a flat-ish surface. Thanks for the video!
+Mike K Thanks Mike! I'm glad I could help.
You stole my thunder. I agree with you. Straight out of the gate.
Nice toolbox en good work schoes
Yeah me too and the safety thongs were a bonus 😁
This was FANRASTICALLY satisfying!!!
I wish we were neighbors!
Thanks! I’m sure we could create awesomeness if we were.

Beautiful!
Really cool box ^^ and the flocking was new for me, nice to learn something :D
+nivelbraack Thanks Mate! Yeah Flocking is awesome
Very nice thanks for taking the time to share this with us
Thankyou Tim!
Wow! Very nice!
Thanks Joseph!
That Ryobi planer works pretty good huh
That's a beautiful box...awesome job! Cheers!
Thanks Rick!
Beautiful! I just carved a rose out of firewood. A lot of ours doesn’t make it to the wood stove.
Thanks Matthew! :) firewood can be awesome to use
And in a parallel universe, that wood was just burnt... Stunning piece!
+AwayinWonderland Thanks Mate!

Nice job Paul......hope to see you on TV one day.
Ummm who’s Paul lol
Hehe, Redgum "firewood" is some of the nicest firewood you can find. I often wonder how big the tree was before they chopped it up into firewood sizes.
+Kuffys Woodwork yeah it seems too good to burn our firewood pile consists of mainly red gum and iron bark
That is a beautiful piece
Thanks Mark! :)
Nice jig. Good wood working skills.
Thanks Jackie!

Incredible job. I gotta try that out
+Brian Philbrook Thankyou Brian
What type of oil did you put on that wood? It came out beautiful. Very good project!
Hi Tracy, Thankyou! I used Danish oil by Feast Watson
Top job. Well done
Thanks Barry!
Really beautiful

Nice wood, lovely little box but don't you think those hinges are a bit to hefty for the size of the box.
Hey Linda, thats all i had laying around
@@BensWorx okay Ben I'll let you off, I was thinking a piano hinge would look alright on the box I think you can get them in a smaller size, probably would have to get something like that from a model making suppliers. Lovely job on the box Ben.👍
Thanks Linda, i always appreciate other peoples visions
@@BensWorx Thanks Ben, I've only just come across your channel have subscribed. Linda from North Wales. UK
Thanks Linda, Hello from Australia
What planer are you using? I'm trying to buy one that will stand up to rough wood and logs.
How do you find the performance of the ryobi thickenser?
Hey Geoff, it’s been really good, it does produce a bit of snipe though, you can overcome this by using a long base board
Excellent video! 👍
WHAT KIND OF WOOD IS THAT??
Thanks Mate, it’s red gum
Very inspirational Ben! I burn it you make it.....!?£€#%_\
+The Bungling Woodworker Thanks Sean! I look forward to seeing your bowl mate.

Bee-you-tea-full!
Thanks Dan
luckily I saw a MASTERPIECE before...
Put your matches in it.
I burned an antique today....sad.
Firewood?)) Rather expensive i mean.. Thanks
Interesting use of the word "masterpiece".
I cringe every time I put redgum on the fire, burns well thought
Spoiler alert for turners clicking because of title, a lathe was not used at all and it’s disappointing to say the least.
Why does everyone leave the sound on when showing sped up planing videos? Urgh that sound is awful!
it looked like a nice piece of wood to begin with but it never came close to being a masterpiece, id say its more like tatty box, no offence ment
Looks nice but definitely not a masterpiece.
That's a nice box but the clickbait title "TURNING FIREWOOD INTO A MASTERPIECE" is why RUclips is going down : this is not a masterpiece, it's a nice little box, and this is not firewood.
