You mean a friend that adores you, but since you don't have any chemistry with, you will always treat him like a brother, much to his disappointment? It's a pretty unhealthy dynamic, as the movie tries to show.
We've all had a Duckie, except just like Andi he is forgotten, or overlooked until he's not there (Johnny on the spot)...heartbroken (tears of a clown); grasping on to any inkling of hope that the next interaction will land us in his arms.
Veronica Downey I've seen countless women make this same mistake. They go for the slightly dangerous or rich guy over the "nice guy" again and again. And they usually end up getting hurt badly in the end.
Veronica Downey tbh I’d choose Blaine over Duckie any day. Duckie is definitely one of those guys who expects the girl he loves to love them back and that’s just not fair. He gets angry with her for liking Blaine because he’s jealous which isn’t what a best friend should do, regardless of their romantic feelings. Everyone wanted her to choose Duckie, but throughout the entire film there’s no hint that Andie does or would ever have anything but platonic feelings for Duckie so I’ll never understand how people could hate the ending so much.
Abigail Lewis actually he gets angry because Blaine is a stuck up pretty rich boy that is probably using andie and duckie would do anything for her that’s why he gets frustrated because she’s not looking at the big picture
He owned this movie, and as much as I love Molly Ringwald, I never once bought her as the "girl from the wrong side of the tracks". Everything about that girl screamed "princess"; thrift store clothes and vintage car, or not.
Bite your tongue sir! Yes Jon Cryer was amazing in this movie, the movie would have been lost without him and his character, However... Molly Ringwald was spot on as Andy and the character that she was, no princess vibes.
YEP!!!! I grew up in this era and it cost a lot to be this vintage. The fact she could sew does help quite a bit though... And Hollywood had a hard time diversifying back in those days. It was Molly or nobody. Winona was still too young and Pheobe Cates didn't have enough star power..... And Ally wasnt really a leading lady. THAT was pretty much the pool.
Yea, unless you have a sharp eye and pick out the odd vintage stuff from garage sales and goodwill (or inherit it), vintage is clothing is expensive as heck. Probably same back then, though maybe a little less so. Hand me downs from grandmama were typically looked down upon as lame from my understanding and seen as a frumpy sign of poverty.
The killer about this movie is that Andie was ostracized for being "different" yet she turned her nose up at Duckie for being "different." That always bothered me.
In the original ending, Andie chooses Duckie. You can thank test audiences for causing her to choose Blaine in the end, John Hughes wanted her to choose the Duckster. (If you want to see a film based on that concept by Hughes, I suggest Some Kind of Wonderful, which is the same essential story, gender swapped.) What upsets Andie is that in response to her interest in Blaine, Duckie begins to act like as much of a twit as the people he so despises. She doesn't turn her nose up at him for being different, but for being the same.
I was basically the Black Duckie of my school as a teen in the 1980's so needless to say I was a huge John Cryer fan! This is a classic scene that will be enjoyed for generations!
+Jesse Freeman At least in the book she ends up with Duckie. Sadly test audiences said they wanted her to end up with the preppy twat....so they changed it.
+4starKT Actually, Blane was a great guy... just, Duckie was greater... But Blane really loved her, and when he realized how wrong he was, he redimed himself. So, yeah, Duckie was the goofy best friend who loved her his entire life, but Blane was a cool dude too.
4starKT Yeah, I watched... I actually made a whole argument about why I like Blane. I love Duckie. I'm just sayin, Blane was a great guy too. What he did that is so wrong? And is not like Duckie was all rainbows and unicorns... he was pretty douche sometimes.
Duckie ain't rich and he ain't part of the "in" crowd but damn if that doesn't stop from being the kind of guy he wants to be. He's sort of a high school hero and a role model for those who feel downtrodden.......
Today, this video has 596K views. I'm pretty sure I've clocked 500,000 of them. I have this saved and watch it whenever I need a pick-me-up. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE me some Duckie!
Imagine being a teenager in the mid 80s working part time at a record store with a coworker nearly twice as old as you introducing you to some very important music! The earlier you experience gratitude, the faster you develop unconditional love.
John Cryer is one of the most underrated actors... He always gives it all. Since his teens. I see lists of dance scenes in movies, this one is never mentioned. He's never on the lists of most funny, most charming, most nothing. And yet I could count a bunch of scenes on his movies and series where he carried the whole plot beautifully.
I can remember seeing this as a kid and thinking it was the best thing I had ever seen. It was just part of what made me fall in love with 80s movies Thanks for posting
He loved her so much! It’s nice to see this kind of passion from a guy to a girl. It’s just good old fashioned love and romance. That’s always a good thing.
I was ducky in high school. Looked very similar in the face, height, weight, style of dress, and eccentricity level. Even had the exact hair style. This was all about 2 years before the movie came out.
The 1st time I saw this I was hypnotized, then in love with his energy and spirit, all while teasing me with such a grrrrrreat tune, Mr. Otis Redding!! #duckygirl4ever
They used to play Pretty in Pink endlessly on TBC, etc. when I was in college. No matter where it was in the movie, I'd always stop and watch it. Duckie is the Hughes character to which I most relate: blue collar background, taste for fashion and culture, fear of being honest. Granted, I wasn't in love with a girl, I was wrestling with my sexuality, but still - the big bold personality hiding a quivering heart hit home.
The rich and/or Popular kids always have an image to uphold and so try to maintain a certain image and end up following his/her families beliefs of what they want that person to be but it's people like Duckie that shows that you can be poor but can be rich with life and having a personality of your own. Reminds of my favorite line from the show Boy Meets World, "Money doesn't make you rich, Life does"
I was 16 when this film came out, and Duckie was exactly the kind of guy I was back then. I had his same charisma and chivalry, as well as fashionable ideals of the period. Like a mirror of myself - I was just as goofy.
I mean Come On! How do you see an explosion of all that Joy & Passion in his dance and NOT give him the Biggest Kiss in the world, afterwards?!! Uuugghh. I get it. Shes in love with Blane but Duckie just made my heart celebrate.
I love Duckie so much, I don't think that he should have ended up with Andie because she didn't actually like him the way that he liked her but I still wish he had ended up happier in the movie. Also he is 100% a fashion icon and I need to recreate and wear all of his outfits
I wish I had a Duckie in my life. He's so freaking cute, funny, and caring.
We could all use a Duckie
You mean a friend that adores you, but since you don't have any chemistry with, you will always treat him like a brother, much to his disappointment? It's a pretty unhealthy dynamic, as the movie tries to show.
We've all had a Duckie, except just like Andi he is forgotten, or overlooked until he's not there (Johnny on the spot)...heartbroken (tears of a clown); grasping on to any inkling of hope that the next interaction will land us in his arms.
Nobody really wanted Ducky...believe me I was Duckie a long time...& not tzoo bad looking if I may say so...but different
And to friendzone ?
THIS IS MY FAVORITE SCENE FROM THE ENTIRE MOVIE!
I'm down with you!
;-) ;-) ;-)
mine tooo !!
+Ana Bel. Ana, you're way amazing!!!
I hate this movie but this is my only fav scene in this movie!!!
Lacy Dreamer best scene in movie is Ducky Doing a wheelie on his bike on the sidewalk like a wild man!!!
ugh i love this scene. i would've dated duckie in a heartbeat hes so cute and goofy!
Veronica Downey I've seen countless women make this same mistake. They go for the slightly dangerous or rich guy over the "nice guy" again and again. And they usually end up getting hurt badly in the end.
Same he’s so cute his smile gets me every time ❤️❤️❤️💫💫💍💍
Steph so fancied Andie. He was jealous of Blaine.
Veronica Downey tbh I’d choose Blaine over Duckie any day. Duckie is definitely one of those guys who expects the girl he loves to love them back and that’s just not fair. Scott McGillivray well said👌

I feel like her short hair helped a little

And to this day, I can't hear "Try a Little Tenderness" without thinking about this scene. Love it!
Hay you heard this song in the movie "Duets"? It's great 👍
I think this scene got Jon Cryet up to two and a half men starring role, I love Jon Cryer.
The killer about this movie is that Andie was ostracized for being "different" yet she turned her nose up at Duckie for being "different." That always bothered me.
Still bothers me, too, and unfortunately real life is like that way too often. Only a few are brave.
Many people want to be different while thinking that another different is not the right kind of different.
yet when he kissed her she thought that he would need to practice on fruit... lolol...I bet he had a line up for the kissing booth every year!!
Exactly. To be with The rich popular guy that everybody desires. SHe end up like a ordinary girl.
In the original ending, Andie chooses Duckie. You can thank test audiences for causing her to choose Blaine in the end, John Hughes wanted her to choose the Duckster. Why was Jon Cryer not nominated for this performance? He's brilliant!
AGREED!!!!!
Brilliant actor
As good as Duckie was in this scene, I think Iona, and her facial expressions made it even better. While Andie looked annoyed Iona was loving it. 😂😂
I always thought Andie was just flat out confused by him dancing. Like she has never seen this side before.
@@meme-bu8qu I think the opposite, I think she is used to it and doesn't appreciate his personality and all over energy.
It was Jon Cryer's performance that brought this movie to life.
100%
Best scene in the movie is Duckie dancing to Otis! Love Jon Cryer HE WAS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS IN THIS! He's still good looking & still a great actor.
Love this movie and the music!
Duckie was passion, fashion, dance, romance, witty & fearless child all rolled into one. Total package!
I was basically the Black Duckie of my school as a teen in the 1980's so needless to say I was a huge John Cryer fan! This is a classic scene that will be enjoyed for generations!
That means u were popular. Be honest .....you had to be.
He went in!!!!!! This is my favourite scene of the film. I always rewind it over and over again
this is one of the most iconic scenes ever.
Still can't believe she didn't end up with him
+Jesse Freeman At least in the book she ends up with Duckie. Sadly test audiences said they wanted her to end up with the preppy twat....so they changed it.
Booo, he was a dick
+4starKT Actually, Blane was a great guy... just, Duckie was greater... But Blane really loved her, and when he realized how wrong he was, he redimed himself. So, yeah, Duckie was the goofy best friend who loved her his entire life, but Blane was a cool dude too.

Bbbbblllllaaaaaiiine!!! Ugh! What kind of a name is THAT?! Hahahaha
JON CRYER DOES THIS SCENE SOOOOOOOOO WELL AND HE KEEPS THIS FUNKY MOVIE TOGETHER WITH HIS GREAT ACTING!!!!!!
MY FAV SCENE OF THIS WHOLE MOVIE! i absolutely fell in love with Duckie (John Cryer) those moves on the steps
OMG !
I got compared to this guy today multiple times.. best compliment I have ever gotten.
This is my favorite scene in the entire movie. I always wondered how Molly kept a straight face 😂😂😂
Whenever anyone asks my least favourite character in a film or book, I say everybody in pretty in pink except duckie
He's my favorite.
I have to admit that his character and personality are the only things I like about the film.
True and she was an idiot (andie)for talking blane instead of duckie
Bobbi Lam yesss !!!
I love Duckie and Iona, I pretty much dislike everyone else :P (I love Molly Ringwald, but Andie's an annoying character)
Duckie ain't rich and he ain't part of the "in" crowd but damn if that doesn't stop from being the kind of guy he wants to be. He's sort of a high school hero and a role model for those who feel downtrodden.......
Your Right!!!

In my opinion, this is one of the greatest scenes in movie history and is so critically underrated!

omg I so would have dated duckie
Yeah. He is rich now right
63 years old and this still gives me goose bumps
You should probably get those checked out. Goose bumps shouldn't last for 33 years!
A great song and the Best part of "Pretty Pink"
Timeless and eternal. Duckie is my heart. 🖤🖤🖤
Jon Cryer and Annie Potts MADE this movie.
I love how he pronounces Touché as “Toosh”
I've been saying it since. 😂 I love that. It makes me grin.
I only bought this DVD so I could watch this scene over and over.
Feel like some people don't know what a talent Annie Potts is.
Can do ANY accent convincingly.
That's a gift.
I can remember seeing this as a kid and thinking it was the best thing I had ever seen. It was just part of what made me fall in love with 80s movies Thanks for posting
Walmart has this movie for five dollars but this is my favorite part of the movie.
Dukie is my spirit animal😂😍
Your spirt animal is a piece of shit?
He loved her so much! It’s nice to see this kind of passion from a guy to a girl. It’s just good old fashioned love and romance. That’s always a good thing.
This is one of the best lip syncs ever
if a guy did this for me, that’s it, i would marry him on the spot
This is Otis. I love Otis. My mother used to sing this to me.
You're so gorgeous!
+Alexandre Albertoni Quit lying to that girl...lol
+Kelly Miller I ain't lyin' at all.
Alexandre Albertoni
I know..it was a joke...:)
+Kelly Miller lololololol I know you wouldna be rude to me.
This is a very good tune. My mother used to sing this. This is Otis, I love Otis 💕✨🌻🙏
Andie doesn't even deserve Duckie.
Ik this is 1 year old but.... 🗣💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🤣
I agree Ducky is the type to put his girl before himself
Ducky needs to just kick down the “closet” door and come out, and she knows it! No point in dating someone living a lie
@@rileyandmike He’s not even gay what the heck
@@michellemonroe-rz2di he is! And she knows it. He just hasn’t stepped out of the closet!
Back then i was so into Duckie... ;) I miss the 80ies ;)
I'm so obsessed with this at the moment...
Duckie did wonderful on this great song💖love it!! Lol😁

Greatest dance scene ever. You go John cryer!!!
I was ducky in high school. Looked very similar in the face, height, weight, style of dress, and eccentricity level. Even had the exact hair style. This was all about 2 years before the movie came out.
that hip thrust xD
I was shocked with the high thrust that duckie was doing in pretty in pink man I miss the 80's so damn much.❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
I just love this movie. This is one of my favorite parts. #teamDuckie
Omg, that dance...one of the best scenes in the movie
I loved Duckie! Such a sweetheart
this scene brings back so much nostalgia and it makes me cry a lot for some reason
I love the way Annie Potts eyes look at him when he slides in through the door and I still love Annie Potts in 2020
By far one of the best scenes in the movie!
Epic scene of all time.
I love 💘this scene not only is funny and cute but a great dancer one of my favorites
My favorite scene through out the movie.
omg at 0:45 seconds his face is the cutest!
The 1st time I saw this I was hypnotized, then in love with his energy and spirit, all while teasing me with such a grrrrrreat tune, Mr. Otis Redding!!
#duckygirl4ever
I really love Andie's outfits and her room, pinky and cute
I thought it was weird that I had the hugest crush on him. But after reading the comments I feel better lol 🤗
This scene is marvelous with the music/sound, but played again in silence...VERY interesting and pretty incredible. Well done!
The boy was feeling his music, getting down to Otis Redding. Best character in the movie. Love this scene.👍🏻
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I'M TOTALLY with Y'all!
I was Ducky back then!!!! BMX bike and all...

I LOVE LOOOOVVVEEEE this movie Always loved Duckie!!
My favorite scene!! 👏👏👏👏 Love Duckie but adore Blane’s looks!! 🥰
“My thighs were in flames” the famous Duckie kiss! 😂
One of the best dance scene EVER!!!
This will always be my favorite scene from Pretty In Pink
Yes!! one of my favorite scenes and oldie.
I can't hear this song without remembering this scene
Duckie sings this with absolute passion!! You've gotta give him a little tenderness for singing and dancing to this Otis classic!!!
The rich and/or Popular kids always have an image to uphold and so try to maintain a certain image and end up following his/her families beliefs of what they want that person to be but it's people like Duckie that shows that you can be poor but can be rich with life and having a personality of your own. 💯 One of the best movie scenes ever!!
OMG I love the slide I think I rewound the tape so many times just to see him drift across the screen
I know a real-life Duckie. The first time I met him he slid into his parent's kitchen and said, "I'm home, hold the applause."
I was 16 when this film came out, and Duckie was exactly the kind of guy I was back then. I had his same charisma and chivalry, as well as fashionable ideals of the period. Like a mirror of myself - I was just as goofy.
Duckie is adorable
Amazing performance by Cryer aka “Duckie”! 🕺🏻👟👟🦆!
One of the best moments of the 80s
Omg I love this scene, I could just watch this all day and never get bored🤘🏻
I was that Duckie when I was in high school. Hell. I’m kinda him now. If I remember nothing else of this movie, I’ll remember this scene.........
Andie so didnt deserve this actual angel
Ahhhh... I need the Duckie. He was the original choice to be the end game for Andie... but higher names prevailed unfortunately
My fav scene😭🤚🏻
I FLIPING LOVE DUCKIE!!!!!
I mean Come On! How do you see an explosion of all that Joy & Passion in his dance and NOT give him the Biggest Kiss in the world, afterwards?!! Uuugghh. I get it. Shes in love with Blane but Duckie just made my heart celebrate.
OMG I JUST SAW THE FILM AND I WAS LIKE ISNT HE IN TWO AND A HALF MEN? AND HE IS!!!
Best part of the movie ever go sickie💋♥️
this one scene defines my whole life
I love this Otis Redding song but this scene is 100% what I associate this song with lol it’s my favorite scene from the whole movie ❤
DUCKIE IS A WHOLE ANGEL
i love this part of the movie cause jon cryer was showing off
I love me some..Jon Cryer... he's my ducky...this is my favorite part of this movie...

"Try a Little Tenderness" by Otis Redding playing
Can we agree Duckie would KILL IT on Lip Sync Battles???
Best Scene!!
I need a duckie in my life
No, you don't. Trust me. They don't understand the word no.
Samesies
Don't we all?
My favorite part of the whole movie since it first came out. Almost makes Duckie desirable
I love Duckie so much, I don't think that he should have ended up with Andie because she didn't actually like him the way that he liked her but I still wish he had ended up happier in the movie.
Also he is 100% a fashion icon and I need to recreate and wear all of his outfits
Such a heart-throb
I grew up in the 80s and never watched this movie until just a few days ago! I miss being a kid
Duckie... is is my inner Soul Man💗
Love This Part Of The Move Jon C Did That
