I have enjoyed the "volume" creating a "more real" feeling TV show which can be done with a TV size budget because I thought it would mean getting more cool content from all our favourite galaxies/universes..... But you are right, Andor is showing us a galaxy that feels SO lived in and real. I am loving it.
Does anyone know if the town is a set or a location that they dressed? I will believe it if I am told it is a set, but if it is then the Set Designers (and creators) are incredible, it looks amazing and the way they have shot it makes it feel so much more tangible than sets normally do. The people in the flashbacks were actually Separatists, based on the symbol on the jackets of the bodies and their worry about the approaching Republic ship. Less obvious to catch w/o Battle Droids walking around obviously but a cool little reminder that the Separatists were also just people rebelling against what they saw as an oppressive govt. Cassian does say in Rogue One that he's been fighting since he was 6 years old, if he takes up the Separatist cause during the Clone Wars as a child he's essentially been a rebel his whole life.

    • @lokkii1005
      @lokkii1005 2 года назад +103

I was going to post the same thought.. 'in this fight since I was 6 yrs old' is referring to him fighting the Republic.. the mining accident wasn't an accident, it was republic forces.. we saw clones in one trailer.. Cassian simply sees the Empire as the continuation of the Republic, just cocky and sure of themselves.. glad to see someone else had the same thoughts on this as me

1:07:15 The thing is, there's going to be repercussions for this. The chief inspector wanted things nice and quiet so the Empire wouldn't give them attention, but now that his deputy went and shit the bed and riled up the locals, he's going to have to make some kind of show of force as a reprisal to show the Empire, "hey, we still have control." And now that they've seen they can fight back, maybe that cycle genuinely spirals out of control and the Empire swings by for an atrocity or two to keep the locals in line. That's what births rebels.

I just rewatched Andor for the third time (IMO: The best Star Wars since 1977) and I wanted to come back and see your reactions again. Eric really knows his stuff. The pit strip mining accident was what killed all the adults and it abandoned and left the children to either adapt or something else.

I have been a massive star wars fan since I was a kid in the early 80’s. I have seen all the movies countless times and own and have read all the books from the discontinued original EXU timeline. I know that the official designation of the X-wing is the Incom T-65 Space Superiority Starfighter. I know that the Millenium Falcon is a heavily modified YT-1300 light freighter. I could probably quote New Hope line by line from start to finish with at least a 75% accuracy.
I mention all this only to highlight the fact that I never made the connection that only humanoid droids are depicted speaking Basic/English until Eric mentioned how interesting it was that B2EMO could do so and speculating about how that related to his battery capacity.

Two interesting things I noticed that I want to point out:
    1) The abandoned ship where we see Cassian sleeping in and hiding the NS-9 Star Path Unit is the ship that Marva is piloting in the flashback, so at some point she must have stopped her scrapping/smuggling and stayed at this planet. Maybe things got too hot and she and Cassian decided to lay low.
    2) When Marva and her partner are looting the crashed ship on Kenari, they specifically say that a *Republic* ship, not an Imperial ship, is on its way. So the pit mine was probably supplying the war effort for the Clone Wars. And maybe the adults of Kenari were forced to work those mines and died, so now the remaining children and young adults have to now fend for themselves.

Maybe the reason that Cassian's tribe doesn't appear to have any adult members is because the Empire has used those of age as slaves in the mines? The mining disaster then wipes out all the slaves and their 'masters'.
I also think we're going to see a flashback of Cassian as an adult, returning back to the imperial wreckage on Kenari and taking the starpath unit from there? Maybe that's why he was so keen to keep the location of his find a secret? Perhaps the empire saw the discoloured bodies of the crew and believed the ship to be contaminated and never reclaimed any of it. Whilst on Kenari, a survivor from the tribe will tell Cassian that the empire took his sister / she got picked up by scavengers etc and from there he begins his search to locate her.
Loving it. Never has a star wars setting felt so genuine and fleshed out. There's no 'jedi' or 'force' but it's unmistakably Star Wars.
3 Episodes and we've already had an execution, swearing and a booty call. Shit got mature!

It is a perfect power display highlighting how easily rebellion can frighten people in authority despite the little people that are resisting and their lack of power somehow making 10 men feel like 100 through use of the unknown. Those "fields" at the end seem to actually be Leachate ponds, either being used to extract valuable metals by dissolving them, or to contain hazardous material that might be washed away from the scrapyard

45:22 This is during the Clone Wars. That is not an imperial cog, that's the logo of the CIS.

I think the great thing about Andor’s disconnected nature is that 1: we have to see it without any rose colored glasses and 2: it is acting as a building block for creating new lore, not a dumping ground for already established stuff. As much as we like to see what we know, there are so many big things and little things that feel like “yeah, I believe this exists in the same world, and I can’t wait to read about it in a few years”

As small thing, but what a great way to give us the feel of those kids being isolated and reliant only each other by NOT translating what they were saying. Perfection!
LOL! The action scene setting reminded me of Twister when they took refuge in the shed with all the hanging saws and blades. "Who LIVES here?!"
Kyle Soller (Dept Inspector Karn) reminded me soooo much of a young Kyle McLaughlin! You have to know that Syril Karn is a great Empire officer name!! Will he go that way when he gets fired, or will he join the Rebellion?
NO! They shouldn't make that blaster a Nerf gun unless it's !! It would get someone killed by cops!
    Another great reaction video! Thanks!

    Overall the show is great.
The mature tone is matched well with the superb cinematography, set design, and brilliantly delivered dialogue. It comes together so well and I'm so thankful they didn't drop the ball for this one.
