    Bought this for my small back deck in the Eastern Sierra. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN We get A LOT of HEAVY snow so I was a bit skeptical but it was worth it! After the first storm of the year this has exceeded expectations! It throws snow very well, even 10-12” + that said the more it piles up the harder it is to maneuver the machine. It is exceptionally light weight and overall exactly what I was looking for. If you have a large amount of snow and a lot of area to clear, you may consider something with a drive engine to help maneuverability, but for decks, second stories, roofs etc, you can’t beat the light weight to great snow throwing ratio. Side note, the chute rotator is a bit flimsy and it initially didn’t seem to work, after a few uses it seems to have loosened up.

      Without a doubt! Can't wait to try it.. I originally ordered the 9 HP (28 inch), which was due to arrive today.. but after some reading and reviews, some people thought the 9 hp machine was a little underpowered under certain conditions.. I have a decent sized parking lot with a very large apron (opening) and the town plows come along and pack the road snow on the edges, which is VERY packed and heavy. I want something that is going to rip through it and the last thing I wanted was to have any regrets, so I decided to cough up the extra $$$ and go for the 13 hp bad boy! Wasn't going to spend $8,000 on the hybrid though.. LOL... Looking forward to comparing notes with ya...

      Awesome! Definitely a good choice to go with the 13/32! The 36 inch hybrid is too much.

    Great snowblower. Practically everything we own is a Honda, lol. Just purchased an HS928 Honda snowblower--ours doesn't have the electric start or electric chute control, but it's still a beast. The Troy Bilt that we traded in was a pile of junk, which is why we traded.

    I bought a HSS 724AATD model. A heads up on this model about some issues that I have on mine that are similar to this model. First, the skid shoes are behind the auger housing and inboard from the edge. Following factory set up specs you will hit an obstruction with the auger gears before the skid plates can ride over it. I busted 3 shear pins before I figured this out. I do a lot of urban sidewalks with uneven pavement. Cure: buy the $40 nylon skid shoes that come with the wheeled version and put them on the auger housing to save wearing down the housing and augers, as well as avoiding busting shear pins. Speaking of augers The serrated one can trap a piece of wood between the auger and the scrapper bar busting a shear pin. A 2” in. Corner round took mine out. The old ribbon auger would just scoop that up and out. Feel the vibration of the machine when the augers are chopping. If on concrete or asphalt, you will be busting shear pins. Buy lots of spares bolts for Honda, but buy the hardware store 6mm locking flange nuts for 40 cents not the $2.40 my dealer charged me for one. The new housing wraps around the chute control create a nice valley for snow to fall into. Also, any snow or slush on the chute falls in here and freezes. Next day you’ll be out there with a hair dryer trying to thaw the chute control. Clean throughly after each use or else. The LED light is nice, but cold. It fills with snow and doesn’t melt. Nice glowing hood ornament. Honda uses a metal tank. Be sure to use a good stabilizer to prevent rust. Pro tip: for long runs wrap a stiff wire around the auger handle to lock it on. You can then use the left to engage the drive and the right to control the chute and engine drive speed. All the best. Love my Honda but could have saved some bucks and damage had I read this first.

      @djg1028  5 лет назад

      Todd Weiler very nice, and thank you for your feedback. I actually run all four shoes in total on my machine now. I have the two original ones that came with it behind the auger housing and I have the two nylon reversible skid shoes that are on the edges of the auger housing for protection now. I’m not sure exactly about your model but I know on the 1332 ATD, particularly this one being the ATD model it has the deluxe extended chute, LCD hour meter, and with the auger protection system, should a solid object enter the auger housing the auger indicator light will come on and it locks the auger actually before a sheer pin breaks.

    • @toddweiler227
      @toddweiler227 5 лет назад

      Snowlover yes that is an added feature on the 32”. Not on my 24”. Nylon shoes worth their weight. 👍👍

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  5 лет назад

      Todd Weiler yes, that feature is not even available on the 28, and it’s actually only available on the 32 ATD model, even the regular 32 does not have the auger protection system and the extended chute and the hourmeter and none of that is available on the 28 inch even ATD included. and in 2016 the side shoes were actually steel but they had problems with them leaving scratch marks on the blacktop so that’s why they are made in nylon now and they definitely have a great protection.

  • @7863348
    @7863348 8 лет назад +7

    Yup they made a few changes but compared to the Canadian version the only thing new is the steering levers and the LED light. Personally I've never had an issue with the steering and find mine easy enough to turn. They had a good idea with the led light but they should have had it up higher. Having it where it is it's too low and if you want to put an chute extension on it it will blow the light and the blower really needs the chute extension in my opinion. I'm also the owner of a GL1800 GoldWing that was built in Marysville,Ohio and it had frame crack issues where as the ones built in Japan didn't so I was pleased to see my blower was built in Japan. Incidentally all Goldwings are now built in Japan. They refitted the Marysville plant to just building cars now.
    I hope Honda made a good move here. Up here others have tried the steering controls with many problems. Time will tell what happens here. Sometimes less is better though. Cool video. Thanks for posting it.

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  8 лет назад +1

      +Paul Short I agree Paul, these machines will handle snow well above the height of them and do really need a chute extension. The chute extension that have been out and that you have won't fit the new HSS models so I may either build one or wait for the new chute extensions to come out but I agree you can't go too high since Honda doesn't have the LED light too high and you don't want to block out your light. I believe this US blower has the engine made in Japan and some of the parts made in Japan as well with just assembly happening in the US at Honda's North Carolina facility. So far I love the new machine and plan on posting some videos of it in action if we ever get snow here in New York. I'm hoping Honda made a good move too, looks like they trust the new steering to put it on the US and Canadian models for the same year.
      My brother and I are both big fans of your channel and love the mods on your Honda and your Kubota. Check out my brother's Kubota L 5740 tractor with snowblower and plow. Search Charles L 5740.

      +Snowlover Thanks. I think Honda went the way of stealing for both countries because there's a lot of competition in the snow blower world now and plus it makes it less than expensive to produce one machine model than a variation of them. I used to work for Honda at one time as a tech and always trusted their designs but like everything else these days they like everyone else has had a few blunders so I look at them as I look at the rest of the manufactures, they need to earn my trust now but in the past if it had Honda on it I didn't question its quality. Bottom line is these days do your research and keep an eye in the net. If there are flaws we'll learn about them really fast compared to the past. Thumbs up and yes I'll check out your brothers unit. Happy blow snowing ;)

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  8 лет назад +1

      +Paul Short Yes I agree. Here on the US Honda snowblower models until this 2016 model year we still had a crank handle to turn around and around to move the chute (which was easy to hit your knee on) and we had a foot pedal to adjust the auger height which was only 3 position. I love the joystick for the chute like you have (long over due here in the US) and the thumb lever for infinite adjustment of any height position you want of the auger. Never knew the electric chute existed until I saw your videos of it last year and was thankful they finally changed the US model to be the same. I love the black sprockets on the tracks instead of the white ones. (although the black stars you put on your's were awesome) And I love that the US ATD electric start machine now comes with an hour meter. (although I saw your Canadian model has that) So far for mods I hooked up a battery tender cord and a cord to the battery for a heated electric snowmobile shield to plug into. This will allow me to wear a snowmobile helmet with full face heated shield for when it's really coming down out there and blowing.
      Thank you for all your knowledge and your very informative videos, I am planning on posting many action videos of my new 32 inch Honda blowing snow when we get some. Yes, great setup on your Honda with chute extension, aftermaket LED lighting, alarm system, and other mods and your Kubota with all the LED lights! Yes on my brother's Kubota 5740 he has a snowplow on front and a beautiful Canadian built Pronovost snowblower on back. Remotes: 1. chute rotation. 2. chute tilt. 3. hydraulic rotating drum as demonstrated in his video, bypasses the chute and blows the snow out of either side. It blows the snow farther, uses less horsepower, and really moves the snow. The Pronovost P 800 TRC, 7 feet wide,with rotating drum is built like no other. You can see the Drum in action around 11 mins in his video. Feel free to comment on his video as he would love to hear a comment or question from you about his tractor. ruclips.net/video/6HcY2fMBg6w/видео.html

Nothing since, I know Albany is always colder than other areas much further upstate we have been in Voorheesville a couple of times. Hopefully a storm worthy of a good run will come your way soon.

    I have had many engines and if properly maintained they will start all the time.My Toro was purchased in 1984 and starts every winter.Honda is as good as any other engine out there.

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  7 лет назад

      I own many engine's too. I maintain them all as well and change the oil regularly and they start all the time as well. But I noticed one little thing over the years.. the red one's that say HONDA on them don't cause any trouble. FYI the snowblower that I owned before this machine was a 1990 Toro 1132. Always started that wasn't the issue.. but always ran, nope! The thing always leaked gas, even with carburetor replacement and many other engine replacements and the engine would always bog down under hardly any load. There was nothing that could be done to fix the issue's unless you replaced the whole engine. Now of course today Toro has gotten out of the commercial snowblower market and they don't make a commercial 32 inch snowblower anymore or a 36 inch for that matter. Toro still makes commercial lawnmowers however you have to go with Honda or Ariens to get a 32 inch or 36 inch commercial snowblower. Honda small engine's are know to be the most reliable, easiest starting and longest lasting hands down. I have old honda lawmower's, pressure washer's, generators and many more and they just run and run perfectly.

    • @apacheone3643
      @apacheone3643 7 лет назад

      Snowlover My toro which was just used this year with a heavy wet snow ran perfectly.As far as your fuel leaking out of the carb I just had that same situation I need to replace the bowl seals,The needle And a fuel fitting two years ago which was repaired.I also replaced all the fuel lines which I do every 3 years good or bad.As far as the engine having a lack of power I would have to confirm nothing else was worn before condemning the engine.Also as far as today's engine manufacturer's have finally step up to the plate and made overhead valve engine.OH produce more power and are more fuel efficient.

    Honda or Yamaha is the only snowblowers worth its weight. All the rest do not measure up and is the usual crap that most places try and sell you. All the infinite height adjustment is already on the Yamaha. I have a Yamaha that i have just rebuilt and after 10 years old, all it needed was spark plug, fluids, cable grease, adjustment and paint touch up. The Honda and Yamaha are built very close in design, attention to detail, quality and price. Only reason why I went for the yamaha was that the local Honda dealer was very poor in dealing with customers so i bought elsewhere.

      The price for a Honda, the rest don't have to measure up, how do you justify their price for something you might use a half dozen times a year if that. If you were going to the moon I could see your argument, but you are only moving snow, I don't need a Maserati to move snow.

    Do these models move in neutral when there not Running or do u need a dolley or caster of some sort to move these when not running?

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  8 лет назад

      Yes they do move in Neutral. This is the 2016 model and you just squeeze both the 2 bike handle type levers and that automatically locks the transmission into neutral and you can freely move the machine forward or backward whether the engine is running or not. I push the unit to the back of my long garage all the time. Also the other purpose of the handle levers is for auto steering. Squeeze the left handle to turn left and squeeze the right handle to turn right. By pressing only one side it locks out one of the tracks so only one tracks spins so it steers.

      I think it did a little. I’m 6’ 3’’ myself and although I wish the bars were a little taller man does that machine move some snow. I just dug out today from 30 inches and when I got home the bank at the end of my driveway was 5 feet tall and I just went at it slow and let the snowblower churn and eat at it and it just kept moving forward through it on the slowest speed setting so it actually wasn’t even bogging down. AMAZING MACHINE!

      Charles Gillette this model is the ATD so it has auger protection system with auger indicator light so in the event a solid object enters the auger it stops the auger before it can do damage. Not all hondas have that feature but the ATD's do. I think the sheer pin is easily replaceable if needed. That's what I know without checking my manual.

    Where did you get confirmation that the transmission issue was just with the HSS724AT/D and HSS928AT/D models and not the HSS1332AT/D models?

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  8 лет назад

      +Erik Asquith That's a good question. After waiting for a year for the new 2016 Honda HSS1332 snowblower to arrive at the dealers, which usually they arrive somewhere around August or September they never came. At first dealers just told me that because of the new design change and having them now assembled in the United States at the North Carolina facility that it was taking longer and that they will be a month later. But then the dates just kept getting pushed back until the HSS1332 finally arrived in late December and eventually the word broke why. There was a production issue that was like a $3- $5 check valve in the transmission that was a bad part that would affect ground speed making it slow down. Honda at first was puzzled what the problem was that was affecting ground speed and not all machines were experiencing the issue however by the time Honda caught it some if not all of the new 24 inch and some of the 28 inch models had already left the factory and arrived at the dealers. This made Honda issue an official recall on the new HSS724AT/D and HSS928AT/D models only which can be read on Honda's website, click snowblowers and then "About us" on the left side of the page and then click "Recalls and updates" and you will see that only the new HSS 24inch and HSS28 inch models got recalled. Because some of the 24inch and 28 inch models had already left the factory Honda ordered the dealers to replace the whole transmission for free for the recall (even though it is just one little part) and any remaining 24 inch and 28 inch machines that never left the factory yet Honda was replacing the transmissions there before they shipped. As far as the HSS1332AT/D's go Honda being Honda and big on quality stopped shipping when they realized some of the new machines were experiencing the problem so no HSS1332's shipped with the production issue because apparently they ship the smaller units first and the larger units last. However the reason why the new HSS1332's still shipped so late was because Honda being Honda wanted to replace all the transmissions on the HSS1332's at the factory before they shipped to make sure they were perfect and that explains why there is no recall on them because they never left the factory with the bad part. So they are good as new!
      The new machine has some beautiful features! Just waiting for snow now.

      +Erik Asquith Hey not yet, unbelievably that huge snowstorm that hit NYC missed us here completely where I live in upstate New York around Albany NY, not even a flake. I would of loved to have that size storm to use the new machine for the first time. We haven't gotten one snowstorm yet all season, just some minor dustings or half an inch and thats it. As soon as we get snow I plan on posting many live action videos as I have a lot of area's and commercial area where I plan on using this snowblower (more then just a driveway) Can't wait to use it soon. We need snow here. Thanks for doing videos of your machine last season, loved checking them out!

      +Snowlover I have bought mine in nov 2015.. (HSS1332ATD).. and I have experience ground speed decrease in the last month... Honda will put a new transmission in under the warranty... beside that I have 16hrs log in and I absolutely love it...

      +snowridmach 1 Do you live in Canada? Has your dealer put the new transmission in for you yet? I believe in Canada the 32 inch did leave the factory before Honda knew it had a transmission issue and they did have to recall it. Here in the United States the HSS1332ATD or 32 inch model was never officially recalled. The HSS 24 inch and 28 inch were recalled for that transmission issue resulting in slow ground speed because they left the factory to dealers first and after discovering the problem Honda stopped shipping and the 32 inch model Honda didn't let leave the factory and they never did in the US as far as I can tell until they replaced the transmissions first. That's why the earliest I could even get my hands on my new 2016 HSS1332ATD was the first week of January here in the United States in Albany NY because that was when they came to the dealers here. Some 24 inch and 28 inch models arrived at dealers in the US in November here and the dealers had to replace the transmissions under recall. The recall in the United States on the 24 inch and 28 inch can be read on Honda's website by clicking snowblowers and then "About us" on the left side of the page and then click "Recalls and updates" and you will see that only the new HSS 24inch and HSS28 inch models got recalled in the United States. Or the link can be seen here: powerequipment.honda.com/support/recalls-and-updates
      I haven't been able to use my new machine yet because it hasn't snowed here yet in Albany NY but will be doing videos when I can use it. Nice video you got on your page and looking forward to seeing you do some more with your new snow weapon! Happy Honda blowing!

    My machine Hss1332atd will NOT throw heavy wet snow - it clogs because they put a collar in in the shoot. The older one had no collar. I am considering removed the collar but it is welded in so I will have to cut it off with a grinder.

    How fast is the transport speed when not running the auger? Is it normal walking speed, somewhere around 3 mph?

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  8 лет назад

      +Felix 01 Yes, I would say it is a normal walking speed around 3mph and doesn't seem to change whether auger is running or not. (This is the 32inch model so it only comes in tracks not tires and I would say it's just as fast and as when you are blowing snow there's only so fast that you can go) Haven't had a snowstorm yet to use it but once I do check back for videos.

    • @felix0126
      @felix0126 8 лет назад +1

      Actually, what I was wondering was how fast it goes (ground speed) when relocating from one area to the next ... you know, walking it from one driveway to another when the distance is not enough to warrant putting back on the trailer. If the transport mode of the tracked machine is a normal brisk walking speed, that's perfectly adequate. I wasn't thinking I'd be actively snow blowing at the top ground speed unless the snow depth was quite shallow.
      I take it you've still had no snow since there hasn't been a follow-up video? Not much time left this season although March sometimes sees some really wet snows which should provide a good test of capability and throw distance.
      I'm thinking seriously about this model for the 2016-2017 season. Just trying to hear some actual user experiences in snow about the redesigned machine. Looks like end turn-around maneuverability has been significantly enhanced.

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  8 лет назад

      +Felix 01 Yes, I would say it is a normal walking speed around 3mph. I bought this machine to use for mostly commercial property and I will be letting the machine track drive me to many different snowblowing areas and the ground speed is plenty fast enough to walk behind. It will be fine if you are going driveway to driveway without having to trailer it. Now haven't said that, is this the fastest walkbehind snowblower mph wise because its track drive.. no, but you won't complain the drive speed is too slow and it won't get in the way of any production time slots. I rather have a 32inch on tracks then a 28 inch on wheels any day of the week for production and if there's ever a point in the snow removal business where you need the machine to drive faster then you can walk on snow/ice then you need a small tractor snowblower unit to increase moving speed. But for walk behind applications and going driveway to driveway i'm confident you won't be disappointed in the ground speed of this unit.
      Correct, no snow. This has been the least snowiest winter and warmest winter ever on record in the upstate NY area. Never seen a lack of snow ever like this. Never have we gotten more then an inch of accumulation and it always melts. I agree, I hope March brings some snow. When I can use the machine in the snow, I will do video's for sure!! I was hoping to do so many but looks like next year is my year. (last year we got tons and tons of snow and my old Toro just couldn't do the job anymore and had to be retired out of service) Me and my brother each bought a 2016 HSS1332ATD and haven't been able to use them yet but I did my research on them and I believe it's the best!
      You won't be disappointed in the Honda quality. I'm sure you read all of the comments and replies on my video ( and if you didn't please read all of them preferably on a computer and not mobile device so you can see all the replies) as it may answer some of your other questions about why the new 32 inch models were shipped to the dealers so late this year as the new model and the whole recall thing the 24 inch and 28 inch models had. Just so you know the transmissions were replaced on the HSS1332's at the factory before they went to the dealers so there is no recall on these HSS1332 transmissions. The video's you see on RUclips of people with a new HSS1332 having transmissions issues are of 32 inch models in Canada because in Canada the units shipped ahead of time before Honda knew there was a problem which is why the 24 inch and 28 inch got recalled in the US because they also shipped before Honda knew there was a problem with the new machines. Once Honda realized there was a problem with the transmissions in the new machines Honda stopped shipping and the 32 inch models never left the factory until the transmissions were entirely replaced (even though it was just one part) Honda being Honda with quality wanted to make sure. I could tell you further info about this topic but it's all in other comments and replies I sent.
      However if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
      Dan

      Nope the old HS models are not the same as the HSS models. The HSS models are new and have the steering levers that allow left turns and right turns and free rolling with the machine off when you squeeze both levers. I think I answered this question more in your above comment just a min ago. If it's an HSS that would be a 2016 model. Do you live in Canada?

    You seem insightful any idea why Honda has every option known to man BUT no hand warmers? I'm considering buying one and I'm having a hard time deciding and really would like hand warmers. My driveway is HUGE so I will be out there for two hours per storm.

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  7 лет назад

      Detail Pro not sure why they don’t have handwarmers, perhaps to cut cost or perhaps they want all the power from the engine powering the auger and track and not any power being robbed to power electric handwarmers. I have used this machine for hours and with a good pair of gloves my hands are the last thing that ever feels cold. More likely to get cold or wet feet then cold or wet hands.

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  8 лет назад

      I would say the answer to that question would be yes b/c the old models were always called HS then whatever number it is. The old HS models have no handle levers so no steering capability and you can't lock out the transmission on neutral to free roll it but I can't speak on how easy it could still be to push it just while the gear is in neutral. I can tell you that I can even run with my HSS1332ATD if I wanted to push mine while the engine is off. Moves easy! In December of 2015 I got a 2016 model and the 2016 models are all new and resigned with more features and they are called HSS models. Now with the HSS928, it comes either a HSS928AT or an HSS928ATD according to Honda's website. Maybe you made a typo and meant ATD? Get the ATD it has more features then the AT. But personally if you are going to want to keep it for 20 years you will be more happy if you buy the HSS1332ATD b/c if you get a lot of snow where you live you will save time with the 32 inch cut and love the 13hp over a 9 hp.

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  8 лет назад +1

      +Chris Yu Yeah, I hooked up a battery tender cord so I can top of the battery a couple times in the off season. It took me about 10 minutes tops to do it. Just like I do for my motorcycle in the off season. However this snowblower only uses/needs the battery for the electric/turn of the key starting. If the battery was dead or if you even took the battery out it would still start with the recoil pull cord that the engine has so you will never be without your snowblower. Even the electric joystick control for the chute control doesn't need a battery to work. You can buy this machine without the battery/electric start and that model is called the HSS1332A but it is only about $150 cheaper. And the HSS1332ATD or deluxe model (with battery) gives you electric start, LED hour meter with built in auger indicator light and a double articulated chute for more snow throwing control.
      Thank you Chris, looking forward to when we get some snow in upstate NY to do some action videos of the machine in action.

      You have a 2011 10/33? I'm not familiar with those numbers? Before the 13/32 I knew they made an 11/32, but never heard of a 10/33. Are you in the US or Canada? It says in the owners manual when starting in cold weather or when the engine is cold to pull the choke lever to the closed position and move the throttle to the fast position. I have heard of starting and shutting off at low idle, as other engine's are fuzzy or back fire when you shut them off on high idle, but not on this honda engine. So I don't think it matter's as much whether you start on high or low idle or shut off on high or low idle.

    • @10mrdigital
      @10mrdigital 7 лет назад +1

      My mistake,my Honda snowblower is a 13/33, and I prefer starting it,like almost anything else I own, at about half throttle for a minute or so,to give it a chance to oil up and for the compression rings to close up some before going high idle, but these engines are tough anyway. Just my method to fire up my stuff and I must admit that I never had an engine failure...yet. By the way I live in New Brunswick Canada. P.S. I just retired from being a diesel mechanic for most of my career.

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  7 лет назад

      Very nice! I see your point, I think it just says that in the manual because it starts "richer" on fast idle when starting in the cold. Either way it will start because it's a Honda. Good with any engine to idle down before shutting off unless you do an emergency shut down or if you do shut it down on high idle won't hurt the honda engine but on a briggs engine they will backfire but these honda's don't. I always like to change oil on anything I own sooner then what the manual says. Very nice, I live in New York in the United States. Congratulations on your retirement! Hoping for a big snow storm this year to film another video using the machine in some deeper snow! Thanks for following!

      Ariens makes roughly "FOUR" different models, ranging from "low budget" consumer, "big box" store versions to their high end "Pro" or commercial blowers. You can't compare a $1000.00 Ariens Home Depot machine to a $3000.00 Honda. You're being completely disingenuous if you do. The Ariens "Pro" models, which run $2500.00 - $3500.00 are every bit as good as these Honda's, and in many ways, are built better. They both make a great machine, as long as you're being fair and comparing "apples to apples". Remember the majority of homeowners are NOT going to drop 3 freaking grand on a snowblower that gets used possibly only a few days a year. For these people, a $1000.00 Ariens more than fits the bill. Unfortunately, Honda can't, or chooses not to, offer anything for this type of consumer. That's fine. But don't try and come on and say "Ariens builds a shit machine compared to these Honda's". Simply not true. I'll put up an Ariens 28" Pro RapidTrak ANY day against a Honda. They'll both do the job very well.

    So this beast did me good. We got a 1' or close to it by the time I went out there. This thing spins around like a ballerina whereas my old Craftsman I had to pickup and hustle it to turn it. Also my hands don't cramp up anymore on the throttle and auger hold-downs. I can see the difference in power and shooting distance. I got it to bog down a few times though. The snow was very compacted. However I think my craftsman would've actually shut off instead of bogging down. This one never shut off on me. I pushed her hard. And with the track system I got it up on my front pathway. But to get it there there are 2 steps of cement. I had to shovel some of the mound of snow but I got it on there with the track system. No way I would've done that with the old Craftsman. I'm happy overall. Only thing is the gas cap loosened up on me twice. I guess from vibration?

    How do you keep the battery from going bad in the off season months when you don't use it. Does it have a plug to trickle charge the battery?

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  7 лет назад +1

      I connect my Deltran Battery Tender charger to it just as I do to my motorcycles in the winter time. They don't come with a plug to trickle charge the battery but I did hook up the plug so I don't have to use alligator clips on the battery. However I must say this snowblower has a pull starter rope so you can still start it even if the battery is dead, as a matter of fact you could even remove the battery and it would still start and run. For example the HSS1332A doesn't even have a battery because even the electric chute is powered by the engine and only works when the engine is running. The battery on this HSS1332ATD machine is only for the turn key electric start. Although the difference in the deluxe model ATD version is not just electric start, it also has a double articulated chute for precise snow throwing control and has LED hour meter and a auger indicator light with auger protection sensor that stops the auger before it can do damage if a solid object enters the auger.

    • @osos231
      @osos231 7 лет назад +1

      Thank you for the detail response, I appreciate it. That's pretty cool that the chute is run by the engine itself and not the battery. What about the headlight?
      I'm currently trying to price one out now as we speak. I've been to 2 places and they're sold out for the year. so I'll keep trying and see. One of the reasons for me wanting the ATD version is for the key start feature. But also afraid of the battery going bad if not kept on top of it trickle charging it. Once you let batteries go low for a long time, they become useless. Besides being a pain for me to run an extesion cord from my main garage all the way to the shed where the blower would be stored so I can see this battery going bad on me lol. But I do want this machine. It's all about the Honda engine, the chute and the key start for me. And of course the hydrostatic trans.

      The headlight also doesn't require the battery. It happens to be an LED headlight and the non ATD version doesn't have a battery and still has the headlight. Yeah, I got mine for an amazing price of $2,899 in NY. To be honest on this machine I don't think there is much or any draw on the battery when it's in storage so unlike other items, I think it doesn't go dead quickly because it's on on a Honda. Yes, can't beat a honda engine! I've tried the pull start several times when it's cold and it pulls on the first time and always amazes me how great a honda engine is! No other engines pull on the first pull as much as a honda does. Yes, I agree, love the electric chute and the chute is longer on the ATD deluxe model and they call it a double articulated chute. Transmission is great for going in and out of reverse or any speed. Here in NY where I live we have only gotten a couple small wet snowstorms so far and I already have video footage of that type and depth of snow. I'm hoping for a deep snow to get some new video footage this year.

      $2899? wow. I'm from NY as well. I called Honda in Riverhead and they want $3499 whereas this place I'm going to they state it's $3199. hopefully it's the ATD model. Where in NY are you from if I can ask? I'm from Suffolk county. as far as the battery I had a lawn mower with battery start and the battery went bad quickly. now, does the engine have an alternator to charge battery? yes, can't wait to try out the chute. on my current craftsman older machine it's just a pain to hold both handles. after a while my hands cramp up. then you can't work the chute or change gears unless you stop the damn thing. I saw a few of.thr 28 models with track and these machines look diesel in person

      osos231 yeah, they seem to be anywhere around there. I'm from the Albany New York area. My brother and I both got the same snowblower together at the same time so they may have given us a better price per unit since we were buying two from them and they wanted our business. We got them from All seasons and equipment in Scotia New York. Give them a call and see what their price is 518-372-5611. Great people. I think they had about five of this model in stock last year. I am unsure if it has an alternator but I'm sure it charges while running. Yes indeed, very nice to hold down one handle and the other hand can work the chute or speed, or forward and reverse. If you're going to have this machine 20+ years might as well have the 32 inch model.

    How much did you pay ?

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  8 лет назад

      +jeffrey wilson I paid $2,899 (website says msrp of $3,400 and my dealer msrp was $3,100 but I managed to get them to come down to $2,899 which is about the lowest price I have seen for the HSS1332(ATD) which the ATD stands for the deluxe model which gives you a battery, key start, LED hour meter, built in LED auger indicator warning light and a double articulated chute for more snow throwing control. The ATD or deluxe model is only about $150 more and gives you all that compared to the HSS1332A so I thought the HSS1332ATD was definitely worth it. It hasn't snowed yet where I live so that helped me have my dealer drop the price more as they haven't been selling any snowblowers this year.

      EL chapo there’s snowblowers and there’s Honda snowblowers. If you are a homeowner and all you do is your little driveway then maybe a snowblower from the hardware store for a cheaper price might be your choice but if you make money doing snow and need a blower to do hundreds of hours per season and need power, dependability, reliability and when you want to blow a lot of snow this thing will climb a mountain!

    I'm not a fan of electric start, just another expensive battery to deal with. Or The electronic chute control which on other blowers I've had has been nothing but a problem. I also wonder how well the gas charged strut will work at 20 below zero?. It's probably a good machine but I like the simplicity of the old model.

    • @djg1028
      @djg1028  7 лет назад

      You don't have to buy the electric start model if you don't like the ability to turn the key and don't want a battery however all the new Honda 2 stage model's have the electric chute. I like the ability to have 2 ways to start my machine, turn key or pull start. Even if the battery is dead or old you can still pull start the machine at any time and use the machine because the electric chute doesn't use or need the battery. For example if you turn the key on, the electric chute will not work as the engine has to be running. Also for example all the new Honda 2 stage snowblowers have the electric chute including the one's that don't have the battery. However, the electric start was not a deciding factor on why I bought the HSS1332ATD over the HSS1332A. You see the ATD deluxe models give you more then electric start with a battery, you also get A deluxe LED hour meter, A "Double articulated chute" that is longer for more precise snow throwing ability and an auger protection system with auger indicator light so in the event a solid object enter's the auger it stops the auger before it can do damage to the machine and break the sheer pin in most cases. So for a couple hundred more the ATD version pays for it's self. I use my machine for commercial applications and plan to get 20 + years out of it and chances are a pull start rope will go in that time during a storm on the guys out there who don't have the electric start and when i'm snowed it I certainly don't want to be without a machine like when my old toro pull starter rope went in a storm. Now of course this machine always pull starts on the first pull even when cold however with the exception of trying the pull start test I will always be just turning the key and save the pull starter for when there is a dead battery. Although common sense I use a battery tender charger on everything I own from snowblowers to motorcycles because any battery not in use should be charged every couple months to honor it. Yeah the electric chute other brand's couldn't get it to work good but Honda has and Honda has had the electric chute for years on the 36inch model and for years on the Canadian Honda snowblowers. Kinda cool because just like a big tractor snowblower you aren't going to hand crank that and Honda had to get rid of the old fashioned chute crank handle that was unchanged for years and years because too many people kept hitting their knee on it. The gas charged strut will work just as good as a gas charged strut works on a snowmobile suspension at 20 below zero and once again Honda had to get rid of the previous generation foot pedal because too many people were falling trying to stand on only one foot on ice while the other foot was on the pedal trying to adjust the auger height. Now with the new gas strut design you just keep both your feet flat on the ground and use your hand on an infinite adjustment thumb lever that instead of 3 positions with the foot pedal is anything in between! Pretty darn neat!

      Snowlover it's a cool machine, the one I have doesn't have a battery but it does have electric start, you just have to run an extension cord from an outlet to the machine and hit a button.

      @djg1028  7 лет назад

      That's awesome! I love the snow! Alaska is a very beautiful State to live in! We usually get several storms a year here around a foot but last winter was in the top 5 least snowiest and so far this winter has not been good for snowlover's. We haven't gotten much at all. Check back for some deep snow filming when the time comes. Hope you are enjoying your Honda with all the snow you get in Alaska! It's definitely know as the best snowblower money can buy and can't beat a Honda engine. They always start right up and run!

    Having owned a Japan built HS80 for 31 years...and now owning a US built HSS724...made in the US is a definite minus. Poor quality control and lack of product testing is very obvious.

    Can't watch this. The anti-shake mechanism is crap---it's causing so much distortion that it's making me nauseous. I've only seen it this bad when people use a goPro, but perhaps the newer phones do similar hooey. Ugh. >puke
