I actually went 32mm Gatorskin because I mainly ride on asphalt but want to be able to take also rougher gravel paths. Silent on pavement, but can take fair beating. The bike is Masia Special Randonneur. One bike for everything outside MTB.
My golden rule? Well since Covid, shortages and the fact that I live on the edge of the world (in terms of availability of anything) I just get what I can get my hands on. A mediocre tyre does not make riding NOT FUN, it just makes it more challenging, and we all like a challenge, don’t we? 😅
Pirelli Cinturato ! No loss of PRESSION, no punctures for the past 9 months, good grip, extremely durable and made in France. You can't go wrong with those underrated tires. Tried Schwalbe, Hutchinson (worst), Vittoria, Specialized, WTB, MAXXIS....
I completely agree. Wider tires, wider rims, tubeless and inserts. Personally I use CushCore on all my gravel and MTB wheel sets. I carry extra sealant and the 🥓 tire plug repair kits. Rarely ever get a flat that needs a tube inserted but carry a TPU tube just in case.
It's not just about which size fits into your bike but about how the wheels feel. You want the optimal inertia for every width. That means 622 mm for up to 32 mm, 584 mm for 42 mm and 559 mm for 56 mm and more.
My golden rule Schwalbe G-One RS or Specialised Pathfinder gravel tyres - currently running the Schwalbe G- One RS in 40c and loving these tyres - I have run WTB Riddlers in 700c, they were ok but mostly they looked good with tan walls
Yeah I was using that tyre for nearly four years and no issues. Used it everywhere in dry conditions and performed well. Recently swapped to a Vittoria Toreno Dry and have had two punctures already. Will be going back to Maxxis.
Since I do gravel rides in autumn/winter only, I got a pair of Pirelli Cinturato Gravel S, perfect for wet and muddy conditions you find in these seasons 💪🏻😎🔝
Could you give me advice please. I recently bought Pirelli Cinturato M 35c. It was a good deal, so I didn't think about it much. I will travel off-road as much as possible, but I will spend a good amount of time traveling on pavement. It's a like a weekend bikepacking adventure. Will they be too slow and noisy on the road? Should I give it a go, or should I sell them and buy something else?
Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M. Been on it for two years now. Great on the pavement. Great on the gravel. Only niggle, it only comes in 35c and 40c. 40c won't fit on my frame (rear). So I'm running the 35c. Would kill for a 38c.
27.5x2.2 Continental Race King Protection! Noisy on tarmac but damned fast and cushy on any surface you can throw under them. And surprisingly capable even in mud !!!
I've tried a lot of different tires out like the pathfinders and wtb's , currently running Sawtooths and I love them , they surprised me how fast and grippy they are
Golden rule? On tyre width, a simple formula is a great place to start when choosing your tyre. Bodyweight x 0.3 + 15. For me, at just over 100kg, that is 100 x 0.3 + 15, which equates to 45. That is the minimum tyre width I'll generally use, though I'll occasionally drop to a 40mm when I need something fast on smooth gravel. I've gamed out the formula at all bodyweights, and it seems to work well.
There is a huge factor that you always miss: weight of rider and extra loads. If you weigh upwards of 100kg, you will need very strong wheels, so 650b MTB wheel set will be stronger than the average 700c. It will also change the needed tire pressure and a wider tire will be better.
Schwalbe Jumbo Jim is perfect, used them for the Dorset Dirt Dash on endless gravel/sand, just perfect and no slower than the skinny puncture prone, tooth rattling trend.
Congrats on missing the all-rounder in WTB’s lineup: the Nano 40. I’ve ridden that year-round and the wear pattern proves the tire’s versatility. The continuous central lug strip takes most of the wear on tarmac (it’s what balded first), while the very aggressive and widely-spaced edge lugs provided tremendous purchase and excellent shedding in snow and mud. Good rolling on the smooth stuff and great bite in the sloppy. Yeah, the tread pattern was borrowed from an MTB tire. Is that why you don’t like it? Or could you not recognize the function in the form?
Can somebody please help me, I'm so confused about tires. I got Pirelli Cinturato M gravel 700x35. It was a nice deal, so I didn't think much about it. I want to travel on dirt and gravel as much as possible, but I will also spend a decent amount of time on pavement. Will these tires slow me down? Will they be too noisy for the road? Are they too narrow for true off-road? Should I sell them and get something else? I will do longer trips, weekend backpacking, and maybe longer. I will constantly switch between different surfaces. Can someone please recommend me something?
If you want over 45mm width or an insert or nobby tires there is one thig i need to tell you: Gravel Bikes are a trend, Mountainbikes are actually usefull in rough terrain.
Hardly a trend when CX has been around decades buddy gravel bikes are just bigger and comfier for longer distances MTB are great but too slow and hard work for the long days in the saddle with what could be 80/20 road to gravel ride.
your preferred track-trial-route = is tire type and bike setup some places are = not applicable = not to be used as benchmark 4 sided geographical effects, contours road surfacing and polishes tiles and gravel bitumen surfaces. brute force products are apprently bad. 4 sides pull-push till up-cannot-down is forceful. people from othe countries will never understand using theories

What is your go to gravel tyre?
Specialized pathfinder pro. Rolls well, I never had a puncture and still going strong after 7000 kilometers.
I actually went 32mm Gatorskin because I mainly ride on asphalt but want to be able to take also rougher gravel paths. Silent on pavement, but can take fair beating. The bike is Masia Special Randonneur. One bike for everything outside MTB.
Loving the schwalbe G-one RS. It's a dry gravel tyre but it is fast as hell and looks great.
Conti terra speed terras 40mm or shwalbe G ONE RS SUPER RACE 40 both amazing
Terreno Dry
My golden rule is to buy what's on special. Tyres from a year or two ago are often much cheaper and usually just as good.

Will try them, thank you for the recommendation

Another for G one RS in 40mm, even on my road bike. Very fast and comfortable
Just dropped from 2.2 mtb tire to a 45mm. Imtend to still take on some rocky stuff. So, will see how it goes. I found the 2.2 hard going on roads.
Best WTB advertisement I’ve seen! Great job! 😂
For light gravel and tarmac I'm using Maxxis Velocita 700x40.
Almost a road tire in tarmac but strong to some gravel and "paves" roads.
Yeah I was using that tyre for nearly four years and no issues. Used it everywhere in dry conditions and performed well. Recently swapped to a Vittoria Toreno Dry and have had two punctures already. Will be going back to Maxxis.
What about maxxis 700x50c ?

Challenge Tires are all my favorite - comfortable, high thread count and rolling resistance
I've tried a lot of different tires out like the pathfinders and wtb's , currently running Sawtooths and I love them , they surprised me how fast and grippy they are
TPU works much better for me than tubeless. It's lighter, less messi and easier if you want to change tires. 👋🏻

2:21 - only one litre per tyre?
Very Concise, thank you. Been looking for years

You need to try the Vittoria Mezcal tires. No one has reviewed them.
Did you make a video about that strange front suspension? Can't find one on your channel...
the bike is from the brand Lauf and they sell that fork separately, the bike+fork in this vid is a whole package.
Given the recent mudfest on Outbound 2023, what tires would you recommend for such?
Schwalbe Jumbo Jim is perfect, used them for the Dorset Dirt Dash on endless gravel/sand, just perfect and no slower than the skinny puncture prone, tooth rattling trend.
I prefer the lightning larry
Jumbo Jim seem to have a thin carcasse and gets punctures easily. I prefer the Vee Tire Bulldozers, they do great on any surface

You're onto something really big. The Great Nano 40 conspiracy.
Yes Schwalbe only all the way ! 27.5 2.35mm 650b !

IRC Boken (35 & 40), quick on tarmac, fine on gravel, ok when a bit wet. And affordable, durable
good stuff.
Thanks god bless
Not mentioning that the Sendero is a 650b tire is weird.
Whats that on the fork?
Lauf fork-from Iceland
Most knobblier gravel tyres look like 90s mtb tyres with some wacky thread designs.
who puts what looks like have a litre of sealant into a tire?😂
warning this is for beginner riders

@@zedddddful if you're riding 80/20 road/gravel, I would suggest 45mm plus or nobbly tyres is overkill
your preferred track-trial-route

4 sided geographical effects, contours road surfacing and polishes tiles and gravel bitumen surfaces. brute force products are apprently bad. 4 sides pull-push till up-cannot-down is forceful.
people from othe countries will never understand using theories
For me the most important part when choosing a tyre is: never choose WTB.
