5:41 thank you for filing down the stuff left after cutting the tangs. I've seen someone else skip the filing and leave the rest of the tang so it tears up the fretboard. They even commented on this video. Personally, I would do just like you and undercut every tang on every guitar, no matter if it has binding or not. It prevents fret sprout later. Both of my $200 Samick-built guitars have the tangs undercut from the factory. So they will never have fret sprout. I intend on doing it to any guitar I refret every time.
When you level the fretboard you don’t use radius sanding blocks, and as I use fractal fret press caul it’s basically the same. If you use standard fret press caul you need to change inserts 🙃
I don't get why stainless steel frets don't come stock on major brands, they simply dont wear out unless you play like a madman every single day for years
Major cringe seeing you use an orbital sander on the fingerboard. Definitely use the appropriate radius block with 220 for better control and less chance of flatspotting. Same goes for leveling new fretts, use the same radius block for better control and perfect radius between fret to fingerboard. This is exactly why they are made.
@@TadykaGuitars I've been watching her show from the US, and yours came into my feed. I recognized your shop. You have the same neck stand with your picture on it.
Well still is crappy to me but not because your work. Your fretwork is excellent, but guitar itself sound to me slightly out of intonation. Im not sure how high is your action (or did you do that on purpose, or not). Either way I think that you should check how neck is set.
@@TadykaGuitars Is that so? Well you can loosen screws which holds the neck, and you can tune your guitar. That will give small forward bow, and then you can slowly tighten those screws back ;)
The fractal fret press is very cool. I want one but I'm not a professional so I cannot justify the cost. It's fun seeing how your technique differs from Tanyas. There is more than one right way to install frets!
Yes, that press is just amazing! But I totally agreed, you need an arbor press, or drill press also to use it. And that means you have a shop, so for home users it’s definitely overkill. And yes there is way more ways to do one job right 😊
So what do you think? Or it would be better if I left everything as it is and just level the frets? 🙃
Much better result than the crappy spray job! Not a fan of the jumbo frets but that's my preference,,,,
Thank you!
I think you could’ve gotten one more level and crown out of those. Seemed like there was enough fret left. Either way…..nice work
@@gnomechomsky5446 much better playability with new frets.

I would really like to have that J. Edwards Fractal Fret Press. It's out of my price range today, but I can still dream.
Great job, work looks super clean! I’ve had a bunch of those necks, the stock fret wire was always soft and wore out quickly

Those necks came Tru oiled from the factory. Looks to me someone sprayed or maybe even brushed finish over it. Good to see you remove it and re-oil.

What's with all the tear out around the fret slots? It appears to be pretty bad.
