      If someone went into your car while you were inside a store shopping, I feel like you'd appreciate it if someone called the police in. The woman doesn't know the guy owned the car. She only knows that the guy walked around a car, opened three doors of the car, and then walked all the way down the parking lot to a motorcycle. If that's not sus to you, then I'm sorry, but you must live in a perfect community. In my mind, if the guy owned both vehicles he would have driven the motorcycle to the car to do whatever search he was doing (and would have been gone before police arrived anyway), or would have been parked next to it in the first place (and also would have left before police arrived). Really not sure how he was still there by the time a cop car rolled up.
      Anyway, the woman saw something weird and reported it. Nothing wrong with that. How many crimes happen where someone turns a blind eye (knowingly or unknowingly)? She did her part, and it was the officer's to verify the situation. Instead... everything went south. But that's fully on the officer.

    That first Officer knew, in no way did he have a actual valid reasoning for cuffing that man at that moment. He was breaking no law's by refusing to provide identification, and when asking about the situation the Cop was so Hostile and refused to elaborate on much.
    Even worse when the cop sped up trying to Detain him the moment he pulled out his phone. The cop got physical solely because he didn't want to be recorded by anyone else. Shame on him, he display's a fundamental disrespect for a Man's right's to Privacy and Recording. He didn't want this man to be able to speak against him if possible, fortunately the body camera footage is public and it seems the man successfully got some compensation for this incident. That officer should be stripped of that badge effective immediately for such horrible disregard for a Man's right's.

      How is this random dude, who doesn't even know what is going on and is currently more concerned for his own well-being, going to know that the officer is currently recording the altercation? Or that the footage will be available to the public, or won't be erased, etc. The suspect here knows nothing, and could have been trying to get a hold of another employee, or his wife, hell, anyone, to clear him from what he's being accused of. Who really knows what his intentions were?
      "The officer kinda did have a reason to ID the guy. The police were called and were only given that a man was looking into vehicles and what he was wearing."
      Okay, and here's how that goes: Talk to the suspect like a suspect, and not a criminal, and inform them of what's going on/probe as to their current circumstances. After going over the accusation, ask for ID, which will be useful because in a civil conversation the suspect would have been able prove that he owned both vehicles, and it would have ended there. Instead, the officer antagonized, threatened, and forcefully detained the guy.
      "To reach into your pockets when you're being defiant to the police is just straight up the dumbest thing you could ever do. You people are ridiculous."
      I swear, people act like, in the heat of the moment, they will act and perform perfectly to the tense/hostile situation before them, 0 hesitation, 0 mistakes, 0 panic. Suspect was getting heated over a clear racial bias (and this is coming from a white male), and getting harassed when he had literally done nothing wrong. Anyone'll get irritated when someone else is treating them poorly, doesn't matter if they have a police badge. Even more so when they're in the dark as to why they're being met with such hostility/maliciousness.
      So... did the suspect handle the situation well? No. Clearly not. But if you think that the police officers (especially the one that made initial contact) were blameless, you're the one that's ridiculous. Had the suspect cooperated, he would have probably had a relatively peaceful interaction. But that's just one instance. Eventually, that officer would end up getting someone horribly injured or even killed due to their incompetence. This incident just revealed how inept the officer was before anything worse could happen.
      At the end of the day, had the officer been more cordial with the suspect, and more upfront, treating him like a human being instead of guilty at first sight, that whole situation wouldn't have happened in the first place. So yes, blue man bad. Not all, but that one in particular.

      Hence why the cop asked for ID. That or asking the guy for the license plate number, name of owner, and other personal information to verify that he owned the bike. Based on the call, it can be assumed the guy was scouting out vehicles. Granted, he did get too aggressive too quickly, but the guy could've shown his ID. Not a one sided wrong, most of the wrong being on the cop, but the guy isn't free of being stupid either. Neither is the lady who called it in to begin with. Guy getting out of one car, messing with something, then walking to another isn't suspicious. Just a dude dropping a vehicle off. Lady is definitely too paranoid. I think she should've had to pay the dude a bit for the troubles but idk if that would be accepted in court exactly.

I'd be confused too if i walked away from my car in a parking lot and was told by police that I was under suspiciopn of looking into cars and stealing something. My first thought would NOT be that they meant my own car, but that they meant other people's cars.
      And, by the way, one eyewitness saying they looked into cars is not enough to ID someone. The officer needs to have other reasons (via investigation), or had seen the potential illegal activity for himself, to gain enough articulable suspicion to ID someone. After you cross the Cascades, things get significantly less progressive and racism runs rampant. Thankfully the majority of the population live in 3 counties in the state and these people with ass backwards thinking can never ruin the rest of the state.

      @craigsparton 8 месяцев назад

      Yes sadly even though the cop had NO reasonable suspicion to ID or detain him, it is always better to comply with the unlawful detainment and collect your settlement in court. I understand it is humiliating, but the best way to deal with that humiliation is make them pay and get them fired. Nothing good will ever come from pulling away or fighting the officer. I don't know why these idiot officers think they can detain someone based on a phone call. They love using the phrase "I'm conducting an investigation" while doing no investigation whatsoever. If someone reports a crime and the officer didn't witness it, they cannot go around demanding IDs and detaining people unless there is evidence of the crime or video footage.

      Correct, he wasn’t under arrest until the individual decided to pull the sovereign citizen card and make the situation more difficult for himself…If you’re going to be fussy over identification over a police officer, I’d hate to see how you would react to voter identification, as well any other institution that require more than just your ID…

I parked my Mercedes in the main parking lot then I walked over to a little shop in the strip mall and bought chocolates for my girlfriend and then when I was headed back she showed up to the gas station so I went over to papers and gas for her and as we were talking the police came in and called me over and threw me in handcuffs. I was told that somebody called saying that I was pulling on door handles and prowling cars but when they looked at the security footage it was my own fucking car.
