    How long can it sample for? Would you say that this is practical to use as a sampler for more conventional music or just for crazy noise corr stuff? Does it have a maximum sample time for each preset? Or can it just share "X" amount of time between however many samples you create? Like if it can sample for 10 minutes can I make a 10 minute long sample or would it be moree like 100 6 second samples?

    • @tuesdaynightmachines
      @tuesdaynightmachines  7 лет назад +1

      I think you're really just limited by the microSD card's size. I haven't tried out really long samples, but I'm sure it can do several minutes. It's a lo-fi sampler though, so don't expect studio quality from its inputs and outputs.

  • @laughingthrush5327

    Does the MG do ‘one shot’ sample playback? For example, I notice that you have to hold the button for the duration of the sample. Can you set it where you simply tap a button and it plays the whole sample file?

    Hi! Thanks ! How many seconds can you download your own sample, using micro sd card ? Do you have to be in 8 bits at 22 khz ? Is it really easy to import your own sample? Can you record your sample with a Step mode, like the korg volca sampler? I have korg volca, and the sample is only few seconds and the way to import your file using a software is impossible, as I am not the only one to think this! 😃 Thanks so much ! 😃

    • @tuesdaynightmachines
      @tuesdaynightmachines  4 года назад +1

      I don't think there is a length limitation other than the SD card size. Samples have to be 8bit 22 kHz, yes. Import is very easy from Audacity or another software. The MG2 reads WAV files off its microSD card.

  • @OneRoomStudios

    Any tips on recording samples with the lowest noise? Also, maybe I missed it, but what note should be sampled to map correctly to a MIDI keyboard? Thanks!

    • @tuesdaynightmachines
      @tuesdaynightmachines  7 лет назад

      I can't tell you. Some noise is normal with the MicroGranny 2, but try a different power source maybe (batteries or wall wart). The samples can be tuned afterwards to match a certain keyboard key.

    sweet! would rly like to see how you set it up it the beatstep or a daw :)

    • @tuesdaynightmachines
      @tuesdaynightmachines  8 лет назад +2

      It's just a regular MIDI connection. Playing notes will play the last sample transposed (or the individual grains) and playing the first six notes in the lowest octave will switch samples. The CC values for the sample parameters are in the manual :)

    • @HenricWallmark
      @HenricWallmark 8 лет назад +1

      +The Tuesday Night Machines ah, so you're just trigging the different samples - you're not actually changing the pitch of those samples through midi?

    • @tuesdaynightmachines
      @tuesdaynightmachines  8 лет назад +3

      +Henric Wallmark you can actually do both, which is really cool with that MIDI implementation. For example: play the lowest note on the keyboard to play back sample 1, now all other notes from octave two upwards will play the sample transposed. Then play the second lowest note to switch to sample 2 and use the upper octaves again for transposition. Add the grain playback sample setting (tuned off) for some samples and you get some crazy variations between six samples by just sequencing note data!

    How well does the microgranny handle loops, can I e.g. jam an already prepared drone sample to the SD card and expect it to loop seamlessly?

    Just curious, whats the longest sample time you can have per button? Trying to find something super small and portable (like this!) that can handle 8-15 second loops

      I don't think there is a programmed limit as the MG2 streams the samples directly from the mSD card. I've had loops of over a minute in there already. It would be interesting to test at which length the hardware will actually give up :D

      The Tuesday Night Machines : this may be a silly question, but are you able to swap out the micro sd for one with greater storage capacity? I guess the first question here is, does it come with one to begin with, or do you furnish your own? Then if the former, is it removable?

    • @tuesdaynightmachines
      @tuesdaynightmachines  6 лет назад

      It comes with a mSD card with samples from Bastl. Not sure what size, maybe 2GB? The MG2 has a slot in the back where you can access the card and of course you can swap it with another one. Don't know what the max supported mSD card size is.

    hey, I probably watched your demo a million times by now, it definitely helped to convince me to buy a Microgranny! The Microgranny manual talks about an option called MIDI SIDE CHAIN "compression", but I can't get it to work, I was wondering if this is your experience as well. Does this function require a connection via the chain connector pins or is there a confusing similarity of terms being used here?

      +DJ DETH hi! I think that feature was remove a couple of versions ago. Maybe it didn't work as intended. I don't know. Never tried or used it because I only started with the MG2.5.

      With regards to MIDI, Do you know If the Microgranny is "Omni-on Mono" i.e. "The slave will respond to all channels transmitting but will play only one note at a time."
      Or is it "Omni-off Mono" i.e. "The slave will respond to only the channel it is set to receive on and will only play one note at a time." (This seems to be the case as far as I can work out) I was wondering if it makes sense to try and merge seperate Midi tracks (coming from one device through one cable) to a single track and into a single MIDI channel on the MG (using a MIDIpal for example)

    • @tuesdaynightmachines
      @tuesdaynightmachines  7 лет назад

      +DJ DETH you're right, the MG only listens to the one MIDI channel it was set to. It's also a monophonic instrument, so there can only be one sound being played at a time. Depending on your setup it could make sense to merge MIDI data, however I actually found it very convenient that I only need one channel for the MG, as the MIDI implementation is really fun. Check out my MIDI sequencing video with the BeatStep Pro.

    • @djdeth2524
      @djdeth2524 7 лет назад

      The Tuesday Night Machines I am new to MIDI and I am using a Yamaha QY10 as a sequencer. It is fixed to send 8 tracks to 8 channels. Which means at the moment there's no variety in the samples it triggers on the MG, because MG only listens to one channel. So that's why I was interested to know if merging all channels to one channel would work to get a sequence going in which various samples are triggered alternately. Your MIDI tutorial video is excellent, by the way!

    is it possible to use the monitor incoming audio so that I can play the incoming audio and use the micro granny as a real time converter? and can i still change some parameters in this mode?

    • @tuesdaynightmachines
      @tuesdaynightmachines  4 года назад +2

      You can of course listen to the monitor signal, which will be somewhat lofi, but you cannot tweak any parameters because those are sample parameters and the monitor signal is not a sample, but just real time audio.

    Can anyone help me figure out how to download Bastl's samples for the microgranny v2.5? I just got one but it had no micro sd card, so I'd like to put their samples on the new card I got.
