I have never commented as often on any other channel - but you two are a delight to watch - you really produce terrific videos with great information. Two quick questions, I couldn't tell in your comment how far apart you set your tomato plants (it sounded to me like either 6 inches, or 16 inches - guess I do need to finally consider hearing aids). And, my wife also makes tomato soup from our end of year crop - would you share your tomato soup recipe? Always looking to improve on what we do. Thanks!
The tomato plants are spaced 16 inches apart ,now concerning the tomato soup recipe we'll try to do a video on it in the late summer I'm guessing. Thanks for watching and commenting, we appreciate it much!
I’m glad shade cloth came up during the conversation. I started using 40% white 3 years ago and that was a game changer. Thank you for all the info and fun stories
One of my favorite tomatoes is called Green Giant, we bought the seed from Baker Creek here in Missouri. It can be a little hard to tell when it is ripe, but the taste is amazing! My top favorites include Dr. Wychee, Black Brandywine, Carbon and Missouri Pink Love Apple. I use drip tape and have about 6000 square feet of garden. I use wood chips/compost and do the 'Back to Eden' method. No tilling, very few weeds, encourage good bugs, no pesticides, natural fertilizer, worm castings, compost with lots of fungal action, compost and worm casting tea helps. I enjoyed your videos, thanks for sharing your wisdom and the wonder of God's creation in your garden.
I would be thrilled to buy some of your seeds! I have several of those varieties that you listed! This year, I am doing a study of many oxheart and beefsteak tomatoes. Thanks for the information. ❤
My led lights are 18,000 Lumins 6500 kelvin I have approximately 70,000 lumins in total. I have my lights around 18inches above the plants, maybe even 22 inches. New to this ,but I'm trying to learn everything and there is so much to learn
Great video guys I'm fairly new to gardening, 3rd year. I just joined the channel a few days ago. It's now June 7th and your videos are great, to the point. I'm going to email and hopefully get so tomatoes from you and try my luck at getting some Big Maters.
I would love some of your seeds! It’s my second year of seriously growing tomatoes and I’m trying to figure out which varieties are my favorite. I set up a trellis system and this year I’ll have drip irrigation. Please let me know how to order seeds. Thank you! Some much great knowledge on this channel. Just found you! I need to binge watch!
I would definitely love to try to grow a giant tomato. Biggest I ever grew was about 1.5 lbs at the most. To grow one huge one would be like a dream come true
I would never try to compete but I’d love to get some large tomatoes to harvest. I do ok with cherry and medium tomatoes like Celebrity, but my North Florida climate makes it hard to get them mature before they crack and/or the bugs and/or the squirrels and/or birds get them. 😊
Happy subscriber here🎉 The love & respect you have for each other flows just as effortlessly as the timeless wisdom you share with us. May i ask nust how do you store seeds? Do i leave them in the packets as received?
Thank You for sharing your gardening knowledge. In reference to the Lucid Gem, early in my growing experience I grew very leggy tomato seedlings, approximately 3 feet in red solo cups. I planted them in a trench about 8 inches deep with 1 third of the plant above ground, they performed rather well that year.
I live in Edmonton Alberta Csnada . Your videos are both insightful and generally easy to understand as well as down to earth. I have been trying to find extra large tomatoes to grow so I was wondering if you would be so kind as to anywhere I would be able to purchase these specials seed? It would be greatly appreciated Hope yo hear from you sometime at your earliest convenience. Thank you for the insightful information.
Hey Dan, I would like to buy some seeds from your Giants. I love growing giant vegetables in general I did grow the world record butternut squash this past year 131.4 pounds.
@@GardeningHomesteadingWoodwork I'm fairly new to gardening and would like to give any giant tomato a try. I'm totally open to recommendations. I live in zone 8a if you have a recommend variety.
Hello!❤ i would absolutely be interested in buying some seeds for the giants 🍅 i love growing and preserving tomatoes! Eating them is my favorite part. Yum!
You can go to Facebook and search Dan Sutherland and contact me through that avenue if you want to purchase seeds. Seeds are 1.00/seed with a minimum of 20 seeds plus 75 cents postage if in the USA otherwise its 1.75 international postage.
Another very informative video. Thank you. I would love to be your next major competitor. I will give it my all if you would care to share some seeds.😊
For those of us that are limited to grow bags, is there some suggestions on how to handle this situation? I generally use 15 gallon grow bags with square cages that are 4/5 ft high and 15 inches square. I generally don't do too much sucker removal but not capable of having the trellis system that you have in your videos.
Your cage method is probably the next best thing if you can't rig up a trellis system, I'm sure there's a way you can do a trellis system even if your grow bags are on a deck,if you email me some pictures of your setup I could maybe recommend something. Biscuitridge2004@yahoo.com
Woukd love that. That would be amazing.!!! I LIVE IN Edmonton Alberta Canada. 12828-104street NW Edmonton Alberta Canada T5E 4N7. I will send you some money for them of course. Thank you so much!!!!
I actually feel like I am headed towards a failed Garden this year in North Dakota. We have had a strange Spring, struggling to get out of 45 degrees at night. I normal throw my seed in the ground and it just takes off, very Biblical like in my garden but it seems to be so called at night that the seeds are struggling to germinate. as of this writing I don't have 1 single seed that looks strong like it will survive. Not sure how to salvage what is left.
Thank you for not charging money to leave a comment. Do any of you know what catalog, that sells seeds for a tomato called MEAT BREAKFAST, nearly seedless meaty, big yellow beefsteak. It is not 😅 12:55 kellogs breakfast
There's some sellers listed if you Google it, I think that there is better tasting and meatier varieties available, orange strawberry is one that comes to mind, any of the heart shaped tomatoes are usually much meatier and better tasting than the regular beefsteak type. I always grow orange strawberry and orange Russian 117 which are very good tasting tomatoes!

My favorites Tomatoes are Cherokee Purple, Mr. Stripey, The Brandywines, and Pineapple.

Nothing like a thick slice tomato on a Bacon/egg/cheese sandwich in the morning.
