One of my all-time favorite bands. Absolutely killer grooves. I wish they made more music than they did. It's a shame a couple of them are gone from us now. Thankfully we have sites like this one to help their music alive.
I totally agree. I always check their album list to see if there's any songs I somehow missed lol. It's Kinda crazy how things have changed since this comment though. nowadays, thankfully, we have apps like spotify that keep this incredible band alive. I have my discover weekly playlist to thank for showing me Stuff. my first introduction was with "How Long Will it Last?" and ever since I first listened to that I've been hooked on Stuff. Now I'm going off on a Eric Gale binge and it feels like i'm discovering new Stuff songs again!
Freakin' hell! Gadzooks alive! I was playin' this Stuff on my local jazz station back in the 70's. Back then I would ambush jazz enthusiasts with this little known band of studio musicians. I had NO idea people still listened to these great grooves! And 73k views! WOOT! Live it up my friends, this was one of the best funk/jazz bands of all time.
Cornell and Eric hand off to each other like SEALs, nobody saw em coming 👏🏾When I was growing up in the 70's my Dad was a drummer in a band back home. During a summer in 77 or 78, he borrowed a Stuff LP from his nephew, so he could practice some Steve Gadd grooves. Daddy was (is) my hero and he taught me drums when I was six years old, and at that time I was...15 or 16? Anyway, Daddy would be jamming in the basement...he was loving how Steve Gadd was always in the pocket. Dad tried to hip me to "this cat named 'Steve Gadd" but I was too much into my Parliament, Funkadelic, James Brown and other funk so I pay no attention to my Daddy. Shame on me 🤣because when Steely Dan came out with "Aja", it changed my world. I FREAKED OUT over Steve's solo, and would one day get more Stuff albums and music with Bernard Purdie, Rick Marotta. This music is the music of my lifetime and it will NEVER EVER DIE!! I joined the Navy in 1980, served for 23 years and you can just know, ever since then and now, Ive been collecting and gathering up all the music of my lifetime !! Thanks for sharing!
Stuff is a legendary band If think about it! Never really were appreciated in America except the NYC scene... but were huge in Japan and still are at local jazz bars.
one of my favorite music group, where do we put them, jazz, funk, blues, or all of the above, blessed to have seen the play in the city, NYC, OF COURSE, BACK IN 1978.....ALL GREAT MUSICIANS...
I love the fact that these guys are only standing there playing masterful music, while musicians nowadays only seem to be jumping around in front of a camera. Nice stuff!
Cornell Dupree, we guitarists who followed owe so much, I think perhaps especially to his godly rhythm playing. Was many years until I realized I was so heavily informed by his riffs.
This video brings back so many wonderful nights in NYC back in the 70s! I use to go see Richard Tee when he, along with the other members of Stuff, use to do jam sessions at Mikell's at Columbus Avenue & 97th St. I was living in Park West Village at the time, and Mikell's was my watering whole. It was a great place to have a good time listening to jazz played by the very best artists! It was nothing to run into James Baldwin enjoying the mood and sipping his elixir!
Steve is so flippin' on! The groove is fat! But that's also thanks to Gordon Edwards ... just watch him groovin' in that chair! This is sweeeeeet! I too saw them many times at Mikel's in NYC. Sometimes it would be Chris Parker on drums ... equally as in the pocket as Gadd. Thanks for posting!
ljudi imaju opasan gruv, stiv ged je ziva legenda kao i svi ostali, zivi clanovi benda, ostalima pokoj dusi....tee,gale...hvala za ovaj video!uporedite palice kojima jer stiv svirao tada sa ovima danas!
I've been looking for this group to be on RUclips for years. I have 1 of the 2 albums by Stuff and 3 turntables, but none work! Must go shopping. Love this sound.
That groove will live on for eternity! Gadd laying down the beat and Dupree and Gale along with Mr. Tee backing up like a model airplane with the glue hardened. Beautiful STUFF! ~ John Guchone, Amplius Music
Grande ritmica, grande spirito. Grazie Tom.
got this gig on DVD. what a band is all i can say :) as a musician i aspire to be as good as these if not better. ;) Unbelievable task ahead of me haha. LOVE THIS. LOVE everyone people, music is my religion.
@midiman51 ...I agree with you, it should be a compliment... some of my favorite drummers are Al Foster, Tony Williams, and Carlton Barrett (I'm a huge Miles Davis and Bob Marley fan, what can I say....), and those guys have a groove that most white drummers simply don't have. Not to take anything away from Mitch Mitchell, but there's a huge groove difference between "The Experience" and "Band of Gypsys". Gadd had it, simple as that. Yeah..... RIP Mr Dupree.....
I love the way Cornell plays the supporting role on rhythm guitar. His in between licks are so sweet and funky. And Gordon on bass is so 'pocket.' Listen to the room he provides for the other cats. Listen to Gadd put the meat with the tatos. Just big fat beats. He's killin it. The bass and drums are the drive of music but Richard Tee's left hand is a sweet compliment to what Gordon is playing. Richard Tee is 'churchin, bro. This is called staying in your lane. Look at Gordon, he knows he got it.
You know... I'm playing some odd game on-line... And I have this set on replay, with a few other vids set into the mix. I've been listening to odd ...stuff... all my life. This little band of studio musicians caught me decades ago. Just SIMPLY one of the best jazz-rock-funk bands 'never' seen on this planet. T-shirts sought on E-Bay, by teen-agers who have never heard the music, and albums sought in dust LP shops by old fogey fans that know the joke. And in the end... It's just STUFF!!

Always wondered what Gordon Edwards looked like. Glad to see this...which obviously was filmed at Montreaux. Plain and simple...this FUNK...GUTBUCKET FUNK. No wonder Joe Cocker had these guys as his backing band around the same time this was filmed
For what it's worth, the name of this tune is not "Groovin'. Although these guys definitely are grooving, this song is from their debut album, and it's called "Foots."
whats up with the footage at 4:03 not being correct? Steve Gadd is clearly doing snare and hi-hat work when you're hearing the ride cymbal groove...? anybody notice that?
Yes young ones this is what music is all about, has to have heart, soul, whatever you want to call it; in other words needs to have feeling and that feeling has to come through to whoever is listening. In my opinion "music" took a drastic down turn in the ninety's and except for the odd gem that once in a while is produced, there is nothing worth listening to presently on the airwaves, or worth buying (unless it is the "OLD STUFF"). So for the sake of the rest humanity get back to MUSIC.
@TeresaCruz LOL, you're right about Eric Gale. Looking at pictures of him, in general, the dude never smiled. It gives the impression that he's bored but his solo is tells another story...
I was bored so I just typed "stuff" in RUclips and found this. What a treasure!
Cool you did lol, one the best all around/musicians to ever play! Grooving together live.
There’s a big difference between 80 mph when you’re in a hurry, and 80 mph when you ain’t.
One of my all-time favorite bands. Absolutely killer grooves. I wish they made more music than they did. It's a shame a couple of them are gone from us now. Thankfully we have sites like this one to help their music alive.

I was at Montreux in 76 to see and hear this. A great evening followed by the Crusaders.
If this weren't 1976, I'd swear they audio quantized it. So locked in.

Listen how Gordon Edwards makes all kind of space for the piano and drums to get busy while he just holds down the 1 and 3! That's masterful.
Absolutely, especially signed sealed... master bass player who put this band together.
one of my favorite music group, where do we put them, jazz, funk, blues, or all of the above, blessed to have seen the play in the city, NYC, OF COURSE, BACK IN 1978.....ALL GREAT MUSICIANS...

Rhythm guitar master.
Steve Gadd is one of the best and innovational drummers you’ll ever hear. Just great music all around by true virtuosos.
One ticket for the chill zone please? Yes, a row seat is fine.
R.I.P. Eric Gale and Richard Tee as well, gone but not forgotten!
Thanks again, Mr. Tomgadd for these classic Gadd postings. Keep 'em coming !!

You forgot the man the put this band together, mr Gordon Edwards.
Pesado sem ser vulgar kkkkk. Muita elegância e musicalidade. Só mestres em seus instrumentos.
La regia di una volta inquadrava.... random... era una pena per noi cercare di vedere la tecnica di chi suonava. My 24 year-old son just sent me this video.
Goosebumps, they're so good.
I used to see them at Mikell's around this time...performing this song. Love it! Miss you, Tee!
Groove all the way through, nothing better, Thanks for posting.
got this gig on DVD. what a band is all i can say :) as a musician i aspire to be as good as these if not better. ;) Unbelievable task ahead of me haha. LOVE THIS. LOVE everyone people, music is my religion.
Love how the vision always cuts to wrong guitar player for solo's
Damn this gets into your soul.

Love Cornell xxx
Man, I could cry when I see this. The youth playing out there today need to get a clue.
Just enough funk to be over the top
they play as if they are jamming in their living room. thats just so cool
Have mercy. How funky can you get?
had to come back for some more! lol the space in between is just nuts
Mike has definitely laid down some bass grooves that sound like this, indeed.
R.I.P Cornell Dupree.
We loved you!
i ve seen some stuff around so i can say these are gods.
Make me reign!!!!!! Whoo Whee, court is in groovin' session!!!!

Love the Stuff!
I also like the way they mixed Eric Gale on the left... Evidently the mix engineers didn't watch the video. ;-)
peace
Don't remember that episode, but we DID videotape the episode with Cocker AND Belushi doing "Feelin' All Right" backed by Stuff! GREAT CLIP!

As a budding guitarist - the camera work is maddening. Anyway, Cornell Dupree was the best.
I Love this tune and this group.
Super
Always wondered what Gordon Edwards looked like. Glad to see this...which obviously was filmed at Montreaux. Plain and simple...this FUNK...GUTBUCKET FUNK. No wonder Joe Cocker had these guys as his backing band around the same time this was filmed
simply can't find the words for this...
The song is called "Foots." It is available on several Stuff CDs.
Stuff最高
❤
For what it's worth, the name of this tune is not "Groovin'. Although these guys definitely are grooving, this song is from their debut album, and it's called "Foots."
. . .this song is called 'FOOTS'; from their inaugural LP/CD !
Man! That was a real treat!
❤️ ❤️ ❤️
This show is available from amazon on dvd or cd. I highly recommend it
Oooo...Now thats what I call a thick groove baby!
Yeah man...That tha "Groove Masta" at work!!!
Toi tu sembles avoir autant d'ouverture musicale qu'une huitre, et encore..
Great 👍 stuff
I like how it's mostly mixed for the drummer's perspective
whats up with the footage at 4:03 not being correct? Steve Gadd is clearly doing snare and hi-hat work when you're hearing the ride cymbal groove...? anybody notice that?
thank you
Eargasm

STUFF .... best studio band ever
Richard Tee RIP. The players here comprise the core of Paul Simon's One Trick Pony band. Its all good.
Great quintessential NYC tastemaker band of all time.
A great band and one "funky@ss" tune...I have this LP buried somewhere in my basement!
Funny, I was thinking exactly the same thing; I had forgotten I ever had a pair :-)
@TeresaCruz
LOL, you're right about Eric Gale. Looking at pictures of him, in general, the dude never smiled. It gives the impression that he's bored but his solo is tells another story...
very cool....great groove....
cool lookin/soundin tele. wonder what kind of pickup he has in the middle position. looks kinda like one of those oldschool jazz pickups
Dr. Steve Brule welcomed them to the stage.
Been said, but have to add - RTee's left hand, my God!
