It's nice to see The Golden Child getting some well deserved loved. A somewhat overlooked & underrated classic that's my personal favorite Eddie Murphy performance. It was a fun fantasy adventure comedy featuring Eddie Murphy in his charismatic & comedic prime on full display. There are so many quotable lines throughout. I loved this film as a kid & still love it just as much as an adult.

Always had a soft spot for Eddie's 80's movies... and I mean ALL of them. Especially this one and the first Beverly Hills Cop. He just had such a great charisma. A true 80s classic imo

I bought the Golden Child and Big Trouble in Little China after watching your videos Minty, and I enjoyed them both quite a lot all over again. It's too bad that the Golden Child hasn't gotten a more respectful release like Big Trouble's special editions. Have you ever considered doing a review of the John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd movie 'Neighbors'? I just saw it fir the first time and it is a very strange, but also enjoyable 80's movie.

I loved that movie when I was a kid. When I was on the playground, me and my friends would recreate scenes from the film. We had a piece of playground equipment that spun similarly to Koras in the famous knife scene and we would act it out.
"Chandler (Eddie Murphy): Say I-I-I-I-I-I-I want the knife.
Old Man: Let him ask again.
Chandler: IIIIII want the knife. Pleaseeee.

Great review. I didn't realize when I first saw The Golden Child that the biker that Eddie questions was played by Eric Douglas, Michael Douglas' younger brother. When I first saw that scene I thought it was Michael Douglas, then I looked closely and noticed it wasn't. Now I know it was Michal's little brother. Anyway, about The Golden Child, I enjoy this with Beverly Hills Cop and Big Trouble In Little China just as much as those.

Me and my childhood friend of mine had some fun with the oddly funny theme of this movie. We would pretend our monster truck toys were lined up to do a drag race, did all the revving and shaking sound effects before the race started. Then said go and moved the trucks so slow and mouthed the tune of the main theme of this movie (ala Clarence Budicker style) We killed ourselves laughing with that stupid gag. The things kids will do in the 80s for a laugh is odd indeed.
