Lupe is a legend, growing up in the midwest, Chicago cats produce some of the best lyricist of all time and Detroit to. Common, twista, kanye, lupe, Just makes me feel proud when I play lupe its like a living story in the midwest, from poverty to knowledge such a legendary cat.

Darius Adams It's not really new. Lupe has always been a martial artist and a proud nerd. Rap didn't really pan out for him, because Lupe is honestly too smart for the average listener. Like 85% of the references are over most people's heads. Like you may not even realize the shit was a punchline unless you got a genius.com readout and a Lupe interview on the record. And he has made clear, he ain't dumb down nothing.
Even on Drogas he tried to make his music more palatable via beat selection but the lyrics are still over their heads.

I want to see a Lupe Fiasco and CTG interview in 2018, CTG has grown a whole lot since then and I feel the conversation would be different and positive.
Well it's 2021 and CTG has definitely grown but a Lupe interview is never happening lol.
Lupe was really educating everyone if this interview, but they were all too ignorant to comprehend the substance in what he was saying.
Naw I think they understood Lupe looking back, but Charlemagne was poking for a reaction. It's harder to sell to a mass audience stories that are infused with social commentary, politcal ideals, or a particular moral value because their is the danger to it being reduced to just slogans and rhetoric for rhetoric sake. Now Lupe is a lot more versatile then that, but it's a tough sell.

Mad respect for what he said about rappers vs. Lyricists. As a Lyricist myself, that's refreshing someone said that. I grew up listening to rap. Became a Lyricist, still have love for hip hop but can't stand listening to people who just 'rap'. You got 2x 16 bars per track. That's a lot of words. That's a lot of chances to touch someone's soul. Do it. If not, you just in it for a paycheck. More specifically, you got 2x 16 bars to give praise to God or at least reference his glory to some degree.
