This isn't to say that Sega is bad at their jobs. The requirements to tell story thru a comic book are different than a video game. Could be the medium or the skill of the IDW writers. Hard to tell.
It's a shame that the "non-cannon" media writes better than SEGA Yet even they have their faults... It's a shame how much of a mess the Sonic world has become

I disagree with Amy being a ripoff of sally, it's like saying blaze is a ripoff of sally cause she a princess and she is a leader and both are responsible. So saying that Amy Rose is a commander is a ripoff of sally is not fair. Amy is still Amy as a commander, yeah I wished they developed more into why she matured. They just hope the readers understand that after a catastrophic event you would expect people to mature, and someone had to stay and deal with the paperwork that knuckles didn't do. In the Sonic forces game, it was Amy that kept Knuckles in check so it made it seem that she was second in command. Since many people don't really pay attention to amy as a character, people won't remember that she does have priorities. When she rescued the bluebird she asked sonic to protect him and wasn't fangirling, when she was looking for cream in the shadow game, and when she was the one that convinced shadow to save the world, and in sonic heroes she was looking for sonic while helping Big and cream. She even helps find the chaos emeralds to help save the world. She was the one that convinced silver not to kill sonic. She is the one with cream that tells blaze that friendship is important and it's okay to rely on people. In the Fleetway comics, she is given a leader-like role too. She also didn't get jealous when princess Elise kissed sonic because she was trying to save him. When tails gets mocked she defends him and stands up to him. In sonic world or colors (idk) she is worried about the animals being captured and tells sonic to rescue "the poor things," while not fangirling. She is portrayed as a caring female but whoever writes the sonic games they make sonic characters inconsistent and somethings can be vague and could bring the worst out of them. Which could give the wrong impression to writers on how to write her character. I think her character is supposed to represent love based on her name and character design. Amy is derived from the name amada which means beloved, and rose a symbol of love. In some games she looks really strong but in some other versions, she appears weaker so her character is inconsistent and it's a shame. As female leads, they are going to share some similarities. I could see those females characteristics appear in other female characters, about female characters having an important position as the male counterpart, is more like a female trope. I don't think that they gave her that role to ripoff sally but they wanted to give the most popular and main female character an important role, without necessarily having sally in mind. I think that sally has her place in the Archies and should be respected, I liked the ending that she married sonic and found stability is better to not mess up a good character and a good ending. Sally is a story character, not a game character, and should be respected as such. If they bring sally into the games she will be ruined, I'll rather have her remain as she is. The reason sally is as developed is cause she was introduced as a story character which gave the writer more freedom to develop her as a character while the games don't have that much freedom and are inconsistent. I like both Amy and Sally but the IDW is a comic based on the games, therefore amy deserves to have a female major role considering she was the first female character and her whole point was to be sonic's girlfriend, but the creators of sonic thought that didn't fit sonic's character so they only allow crushing on each other and there has been confirmation that sonic does have feelings for amy, but he is shy (www.deviantart.com/shazam26/art/Sonamy-article-292577397) while Amy is vocal and assertive of her feelings regarding love and when she is angry (she is hot-headed) sonic is more reserved about his feelings, regarding certain emotions such love and anger (he could turn dark sonic I think that's why he controls his anger). I want them to recognize both of their feelings so Amy rose as a character can move beyond being a hardcore fangirl and have a relationship like revy and rock which is platonic but the characters develop beyond that. or the guy from sword art online and his gf being badass together Amy rose is my favorite character since growing up she was like sonic in sonic heroes but a strong female version that was really cute so I try to see the positive side to her character and just got sad at how obsessive she could be at times and I was like "sonic just tell her you like her, so she could get more badass and move beyond that" I stopped being invested in sonic and read the Archie instead from time to time because I wanted to see more of Amy beside her obsession, and it's finally here in some type of way. Plus the Archie is more like American-based while the games are worldwide.
@@iamlordapollo haha can’t argue with that 😅. I mean the reason I loss interest is because of how static the characters are and inconsistent overall. Then the comics became weird. But the idw comics gave me hope and hopefully they are good in the future. But I don’t think sonic characters will ever be improved completely though despite the interesting concepts behind them which is sad, especially with the restrictions. I did like the comics they were good but can’t always be fully invested all the time. But I did once like them. But sonic was part of my childhood, so I guess I will always remember it. But nowadays there are more interesting things. (Which you probably don’t care, and I’m probably writing too much again 😅).
@@wasabi1799 nahh your good. Personally I think idw and Ian Flynn being a completely fresh start is the best chance we have. The best advice I can give you from 1 sonic fan to another, is to meet idw sonic on his own terms. Forget everything you think you know, and only judge it on itself and the information it gives you. For example in the metal virus arc when super sonic transforms. The story expects us to assume that he's healed but never explains why. Us fans know that super sonic can heal but new readers don't. So while that never bothered me, I can put my fandom aside and look at it on its own terms and see that the healing factor wasn't established. That's just a throw away example but I think you get the point
I found this interesting: they turned the custom character from sonic forces' two unique gameplay mechanics, the wispon and the grappling hook into two different characters: tangle and whisper. Just food for thought.
I can tell that Sonic is scrambled on how to deal with Dr. Eggman. It's important he remain hard-boiled in his decision to leave Mr. Tinker alone. I hope he doesn't crack under the weight of his decision and can maintain his sunny side up demeanor.
I absolutely love the IDW comics. Yes there are some things that bug me, namely how they portrayed Shadow in... a certain arc, but otherwise it's amazing. I love the new heros we got in Tangle and Whisper. And Dr. Starline is quickly becoming my favorite villain of the whole Sonic franchise, only just below Eggman. I can't wait to see what else Ian Flynn and the rest of the IDW Sonic team give us.

I can definently see my self listening to this in the background while playing something (I watched all of them already, just listening to them is interesting enough even as a recap). I've never read a sonic comic until i came across your videos, and then i found a bunch of fan dubs of them and they're actually really fun stories. Hell ive been on a whole sonic kick this past 2 weeks due to finding your channel, i busted out all my old game cube games (adventure 1&2, Heroes, and Riders) and from watching your Sonic 3 & Knuckles videos i actually bought it on steam along with mania and i really enjoy playing them!
The thing I hate about modern sonic is the simplicity of the character, in terms of SEGA being simple-minded cowards that refuse to let Sonic or most of the characters grow and mature. On the other hand Neo-Metal Sonic looked like a GOD for a bit there and that always puts a smile on my face. Wish someone at SEGA would let he writers off the leash a bit when it came to the Heroes as much as they do with the bad guys.
Yeesh, can you imagine this version of the Master Overlord boss in an actual game? I'd imagine it would be a mix of Shadow of the Colosuss and the Kronos boss fight from God of War. The first phase will have you approach Master Overlord from a distance, dodging his attacks and such. The second phase will have the Metal Overlord take off into the air in an attempt to blast the Island from above. You have to hitch a ride on the ascending beast and try to locate and remove the Master Emerald from him. Unfortunately, unlike the comic version, Metal Overlord is a bit smarter this time and has formed an impenetrable force field around the obvious weak spot. Metal Overlord finally notice you and at the zenith of the height, he launches you upwards and you fall into his gaping maw. The third and final phase is inside the mechanical workings of the Master Overlord itself. While avoiding the dangerous hazards within the bot, you have to locate the unprotected side of the Master Emerald before Metal Overlord pulls an Extermatus on Angel Island! After you rip out a few wires that powers up the robot, the battle ends with you and the Master Emerald breaking out the draconic doppelgänger and somehow surviving the fall with the Emerald still in one piece.
Not bad. Sort of like my last duel against the Anti-Clone until he had been weakened enough that Tronsdeltador de-possessed him, except instead of the Master Emerald it was the Chaos Emeralds. And instead of the Chaos Emeralds it was the Wolf Crystal-Hybrids. The others (as in the other Ulti-Wolves, Wolf 2s, Anti-Wolves, and other alternate versions of "video game characters" (as they each exist within their own clusterverses) were helping with keeping me cover while I beat my Anti-Wolf (which U referred to as the Anti-Clone) senseless. It is not possible to interact with a host universe in any way, shape, or form, so what's cannon in our reality is what's cannon in the host universes, or actually the other way around, as that's how the multiverse works.
I genuinely love the way you have of presenting things! Like, I think you’re the only RUclipsr that’ll tell me “minor spoilers for this series“ and have me drop everything and read it in one sitting. It sorta feels like having a friend explain you something rather than lifelessly reading off the wiki Insta-sub!
The mandates feel really weird on shadow when you realise in the games he’s written more as a caring hedgehog that helps sonic out and has friends. Imagine reading the forces prequel comic and seeing a moody shadow and then you hop into the game and see shadow constantly smiling throughout the game and helping out
I'm glad the IDW comics exist and the people in charge of it really seem to care about the characters and telling a good story. I love Archie but most of my love for it comes when it started to clean up shop and be more consistent. I'll miss the old characters, but I believe in IDW. Really my only issues with the comic seem to be issues caused by, you guessed it, Sega. The way they force Sonic and Shadow to act is so limiting.
Reasons I love the IDW comic: 1. It takes the Forces story and retroactively makes it better 2. I got a waifu out of it 3. It introduces cool new characters and concepts 4. It's canon to the games 5. *I got a waifu out of it*
Even though it would be impossible (Dont tell me), I’ll ask any way. If Sega ever bought every character from the Archie Sonic comics that were banished from continuity due to the Penders Lawsuit and they were to integrate many of these characters alongside characters from The Post-Super Genesis Wave Archie universe, Fleetway, AoSTH, SatAM, Underground, Sonic X, OVA, and Boom into the games and IDW comics. Who would you want to see and how would you integrate them to fit in? I’d go with Scourge and the Destructix and introduce them trashing the Deadly Six to show how strong they are.
Definitely bring Scourge and the Destruction back. I know Sega won't do it, but I think it adds a lot that Sonic's and Tails's families were present in the Archie comics. Taking Uncle Chuck and retconning him into a non-blood relative was weird.
Okay, I wasn't initially planning on sitting through the entire IDW comic compilation playlist, but now... Well, let's just say that I know what I'M gonna be marathoning tomorrow. (:
Why don't they use shadow as the Yin to Sonic's Yang? Make sonic just a LITTLE BIT more hesitant to do harm and make Shadow a little less violent toward Sonic. Do that and you have an actual dynamic! Shadow would be able to push sonic to do what needs to be done and sonic would remind Shadow to show mercy.
I honestly think this arc is where IDW Sonic has peaked as of December the 8th, 2020. No other arc has kept my attention or wowed me like this one did.
This was AMAZING!!! You single hands fly explained what I couldn’t quite pinpoint why I didn’t get past the fourth comic. Role fulfillment and character bridging is what I couldn’t get on board with. Now, I want to get back into this. You’re amazing
Awesome! I just finished reading this arc and I loved it! I just loved how the characters were developed so much better in this arc than Sonic Forces ever did with the characters. I also liked seeing how they brought in some elements from the games like Sonic Heroes. I can't wait to read the Metal Virus next!
I can't explain exactly why but i started crying around the 7 minute mark, i can't explain it too well, but, the sonic franchise played the biggest part in my childhood and after Forces and everything that happened after, it feels overwhelmingly amazing that people like Ian Flynn still care enough to pour their love into the series for others who also fell in love with these characters and this world as well. It was a lot of emotions all at once and i had tears running down my face not even ten minutes in. It feels good.

To be fair, tails still piloted the tornado and had 2 eggman boss fights in unleashed. Just cuz hes also intimidated by ancient God monsters that came out of a cracked earth doesn't make him a wimp. He a scientist, eggman and robots he can handle. Ancient earth god monsters is a little out of his wheelhouse.
This comic (along with the release of Hyrule Warriors 2) has made me want a Warriors style Sonic game mostly so we can play as all of these characters in a matching scenario. Seriously, this and the second arc would be perfect storylines for a game where you use a few hero characters to mow down a massive army of fodder.
Shadow: eggman has split the world apart, conquered the world, almost blew up a city, blew up half the moon, stolen millions of animals at this point, broken time itself and enslaved an entire alien race. just because he lost his memory doesn't mean he deserves forgiveness Sonic: Yeah but you were manipulated by your creator into believing your best friend's dying wish was to destroy the earth so you're one in the same to me
Personally, my fav sonic comic series is the sonic boom one. It really gives a lot of character build up on Amy and sonic for that matter. Like, making the “fearless” hero claustrophobic, saying that yeah, he can have fears and isn’t always strong. And I think that it grows on Amy’s personality. Plus the art is pretty cool
That’s why Sally and the Archies got cut because as you said around 1:05:20 all the new IDW characters look like Sonic characters. The Archie characters were never successful in emulating the games’ character designs. They looked more like furry Star Fox art than actual Sonic characters. IMO btw
You bring up a great point on wanting to play Whisper and Tangle in a game, I can imagine a game with controls that just click where you grapple, swing, launch, and shoot around with Tangle's tail, or a game where you have to use Whisper's different whisps to defeat certain enemies or open certain doors, maybe even unlocking them as you go on as the whisps have been kidnapped or something

Man i really love how the characters are portrayed here in the IDW comics especially Amy she is like a mix of sa1 Amy and Sonic X Amy but also having a piece of Sally Acorn
I just love the sonic comics, that was my gateway into the series, I've not played any of the games really well at all not getting attached to them.. but reading these comics have been quite good. No matter if it were the hodgepodge of what was Archie, or the more streamlined IDW. They all have their quirks and good stories. So, just enjoy, don't go in with any preconceived notions. Except that sonic is Sonic.

" 2.) where we bring you up to SPEED with the things we READ about SONIC." 3.) where we examine SONIC COMICS at SUPER SONIC SPEED. 4.) where we catch up on the STORIES and LORE of the Sonic the Hedgehog COMICS and MORE." The words capitalized are the words associated with the a memory method (rhyme/reiteration/alliteration). I also associated "speed" with "catch up" and "bring you up to speed" because I don't even read or have read the Sonic Comics but your Speed Reading videos help "bring me up to speed" and "catch me up" on anything and everything I've missed. It's awesome! Your content is fantastic! The thing about catchphrases is frequency. If they're not being used all the time to be remembered, alliteration, reiteration, and rhyme will help them get remembered because of flow. I hope this helps (and I hope you use all of these in future videos; no copyright!) , but honestly, as long as you keep opening with "Welcome to Sonic Speed Reading," the rest is gold. Like this one from today: "Welcome to Sonic Speed Reading... where we talk about... welp, Sonic the Hedgehog in printed media. I'm sure you've looked it up by now, Nick, but the horse paladin's name was Sir Connery. An awesome, honorable equine that died a warrior's death, and it actually meant something...until the reboots and cancellation happened. Also yes, his name is probably a reference to *Sir* Sean Connery, specifically his role as the Green Knight in the movie _Sword of the Valiant._ Nice to see all these videos collected in one, by the way. It was nice to revisit your take on the first arc.

34:37 ok so with the hitler thing, my take is that we should humanize him and understand he was human, but not let that excuse his actions. By dehumanizing him it almost makes us forget that yes he was like a normal person and yes he CHOSE to be like this. It’s important to show that we have to make a choice to be this way, and to be understanding that anyone can choose to be that way but we shouldn’t. Humanize him, realize he was human, but make it clear he chose to do wrong. He made a choice that no one else should ever make.
My brain is hurting…I’ve watched a lot of 40k and currently getting into this (Also I did find out about the crossovers. Would also find it crazy if Alfred gets his own eggman that gets to pop in and cause chaos)

I unfortunately didn't grow up seeing Sally. I knew of her, I saw SatAM a few times and the little I saw I wasn't a big fan... hell I have more attachment to Manic the Hedgehog since I saw more underground than SatAM. I think the fact that Amy is now the commander kind of uses my shorthand to give Amy a huge character arc without giving me the story. From a ditzy color blind valley girl to a competent commander that still has some of her base qualities pop up from time to time. "Humanizes" her to me. (As much as you can humanize an anthro hedgehog)
@@crazydgr2464 While I haven't read much of the IDW comics, from what I have read I'm really starting to like Ian Flynn. He just seems to have a passion for these characters and this world that you rarely see in the games these days. He isn't afraid to give the characters the screen/page time that they deserve like the writers of the games seem to be. He's taking elements from the games and expanding on them but in a way that feels natural. In other words he's not straight up saying "ok, let's make Sonic's old design an entirely separate character for no logical reason other than the fact fans keep going on and on about how much they hate the newer design!" It's cool that he's utilizing unused ideas from the Archie series but doesn't try to shoehorn in the non game characters that were introduced in the Archie comics continuity (some say that's because of some kind of mandate by Sega that Archie characters cannot be a part of this new comic, but personally I think it's because Flynn has the sense not to include those characters because he knows that they would just feel out of place in a story that's based on the game's continuity.) And the new characters that he introduces just feel more at home here. Tangle, Whisper, Jewel, Dr. Starline, Rough & Tumble; I'd kill to see these characters in the games! So yeah, I think Flynn would be a safe bet! Sega should consider it at the very least!

i remember sonic the comic from all the way back since archie did it. i even bought all the comics i remember issue # 25 ithink it was the first time we were introduced to metal sonic!!! i dont remember when or why i stopped buying the comic but i must admit ive not bought the comic in many years im so glad that you are reintroducing me to the sonic world thank you it really means alot to me#!!!!!! i really love the emotion you put into telling the stories.. it really is appreciated by me. thank you so much game apologist im glad to know that we share the same favorite game of all time sonic 3 and knuckles!!!# you are greatly appreciated by me and if nothing else i really appreciate you very much keep on telling the story of sonic the hedgehog i love and respect you for your love of sonic!!!!
From what I’m gathering from these comics and your thoughts, Sonic Forces should have been a beat-em-up where you can play as all the members of the Sonic cast, which honestly sounds pretty fun
I've only read a little bit of the IDW comics throughout its run and now that they have the collection of issues in volumes I think I want to start reading the whole series
The Robotnik/Tinker issue reminds me of a similar situation that occurred in the video game, Destiny 2. A character named Uldren had been responsible for the events of an entire expansion; releasing and leading an enemy faction, game ending a main character who was a fan favorite, and through deception releasing a terrible darkness into the world. All the while he showed no remorse or the like. Flash forward a bit, and Uldren is chosen to become a Guardian, in the process having his memories wiped and being resurrected as one of the very beings that were just hunting him. He knew none of this mind you, and in fact took a new name, Crow. Nowadays, Crow is a mainstay character who a vast majority of the fanbase have forgiven for who he was, because he is a different person now. Again, this is a similar scenario with Tinker and Robotnik, being the same being, but a different person altogether. These comics are somehow really awesome. Who would've known that Sonic had something legit great hiding under all the jankiness over the years.

I disagree with Amy being a ripoff of sally, it's like saying blaze is a ripoff of sally cause she a princess and she is a leader and both are responsible. So saying that Amy Rose is a commander is a ripoff of sally is not fair. Amy is still Amy as a commander, yeah I wished they developed more into why she matured. They just hope the readers understand that after a catastrophic event you would expect people to mature, and someone had to stay and deal with the paperwork that knuckles didn't do. In the Sonic forces game, it was Amy that kept Knuckles in check so it made it seem that she was second in command.
Since many people don't really pay attention to amy as a character, people won't remember that she does have priorities. When she rescued the bluebird she asked sonic to protect him and wasn't fangirling, when she was looking for cream in the shadow game, and when she was the one that convinced shadow to save the world, and in sonic heroes she was looking for sonic while helping Big and cream. She even helps find the chaos emeralds to help save the world. She was the one that convinced silver not to kill sonic. She is the one with cream that tells blaze that friendship is important and it's okay to rely on people. In the Fleetway comics, she is given a leader-like role too. She also didn't get jealous when princess Elise kissed sonic because she was trying to save him. When tails gets mocked she defends him and stands up to him. In sonic world or colors (idk) she is worried about the animals being captured and tells sonic to rescue "the poor things," while not fangirling. She is portrayed as a caring female but whoever writes the sonic games they make sonic characters inconsistent and somethings can be vague and could bring the worst out of them. Which could give the wrong impression to writers on how to write her character. I think her character is supposed to represent love based on her name and character design. Amy is derived from the name amada which means beloved, and rose a symbol of love. In some games she looks really strong but in some other versions, she appears weaker so her character is inconsistent and it's a shame.
As female leads, they are going to share some similarities. I could see those females characteristics appear in other female characters, about female characters having an important position as the male counterpart, is more like a female trope. I don't think that they gave her that role to ripoff sally but they wanted to give the most popular and main female character an important role, without necessarily having sally in mind. I think that sally has her place in the Archies and should be respected, I liked the ending that she married sonic and found stability is better to not mess up a good character and a good ending. Sally is a story character, not a game character, and should be respected as such. If they bring sally into the games she will be ruined, I'll rather have her remain as she is. The reason sally is as developed is cause she was introduced as a story character which gave the writer more freedom to develop her as a character while the games don't have that much freedom and are inconsistent.
I like both Amy and Sally but the IDW is a comic based on the games, therefore amy deserves to have a female major role considering she was the first female character and her whole point was to be sonic's girlfriend, but the creators of sonic thought that didn't fit sonic's character so they only allow crushing on each other and there has been confirmation that sonic does have feelings for amy, but he is shy (www.deviantart.com/shazam26/art/Sonamy-article-292577397) while Amy is vocal and assertive of her feelings regarding love and when she is angry (she is hot-headed) sonic is more reserved about his feelings, regarding certain emotions such love and anger (he could turn dark sonic I think that's why he controls his anger). There are other hints that suggest he does like her back but sega doesn't allow the official characters to explore anything beyond that.

Amy rose is my favorite character since growing up she was like sonic in sonic heroes but a strong female version that was really cute so I try to see the positive side to her character and just got sad at how obsessive she could be at times and I was like "sonic just tell her you like her, so she could get more badass and move beyond that"
I stopped being invested in sonic and read the Archie instead from time to time because I wanted to see more of Amy beside her obsession, and it's finally here in some type of way. Plus the Archie is more like American-based while the games are worldwide.

But the idw comics gave me hope and hopefully they are good in the future. But I don’t think sonic characters will ever be improved completely though despite the interesting concepts behind them which is sad, especially with the restrictions. I did like the comics they were good but can’t always be fully invested all the time. But I did once like them. But sonic was part of my childhood, so I guess I will always remember it. But nowadays there are more interesting things. (Which you probably don’t care, and I’m probably writing too much again 😅).
@@wasabi1799 nahh your good. Personally I think idw and Ian Flynn being a completely fresh start is the best chance we have. The best advice I can give you from 1 sonic fan to another, is to meet idw sonic on his own terms. Forget everything you think you know, and only judge it on itself and the information it gives you. For example in the metal virus arc when super sonic transforms. The story expects us to assume that he's healed but never explains why. Us fans know that super sonic can heal but new readers don't. So while that never bothered me, I can put my fandom aside and look at it on its own terms and see that the healing factor wasn't established. That's just a throw away example but I think you get the point

I found this interesting: they turned the custom character from sonic forces' two unique gameplay mechanics, the wispon and the grappling hook into two different characters: tangle and whisper. Just food for thought.
I can tell that Sonic is scrambled on how to deal with Dr. Eggman. It's important he remain hard-boiled in his decision to leave Mr. Tinker alone. I hope he doesn't crack under the weight of his decision and can maintain his sunny side up demeanor.

I absolutely love the IDW comics. Yes there are some things that bug me, namely how they portrayed Shadow in... a certain arc, but otherwise it's amazing. I love the new heros we got in Tangle and Whisper. And Dr. Starline is quickly becoming my favorite villain of the whole Sonic franchise, only just below Eggman. I can't wait to see what else Ian Flynn and the rest of the IDW Sonic team give us.

I've never read a sonic comic until i came across your videos, and then i found a bunch of fan dubs of them and they're actually really fun stories. Hell ive been on a whole sonic kick this past 2 weeks due to finding your channel, i busted out all my old game cube games (adventure 1&2, Heroes, and Riders) and from watching your Sonic 3 & Knuckles videos i actually bought it on steam along with mania and i really enjoy playing them!

The thing I hate about modern sonic is the simplicity of the character, in terms of SEGA being simple-minded cowards that refuse to let Sonic or most of the characters grow and mature. On the other hand Neo-Metal Sonic looked like a GOD for a bit there and that always puts a smile on my face. Wish someone at SEGA would let he writers off the leash a bit when it came to the Heroes as much as they do with the bad guys.
Ok I know that SEGA has made mistakes but to outright call them simple-minded cowards is crossing the line

Yeesh, can you imagine this version of the Master Overlord boss in an actual game?
I'd imagine it would be a mix of Shadow of the Colosuss and the Kronos boss fight from God of War.
The first phase will have you approach Master Overlord from a distance, dodging his attacks and such.
The second phase will have the Metal Overlord take off into the air in an attempt to blast the Island from above. You have to hitch a ride on the ascending beast and try to locate and remove the Master Emerald from him. Unfortunately, unlike the comic version, Metal Overlord is a bit smarter this time and has formed an impenetrable force field around the obvious weak spot. Metal Overlord finally notice you and at the zenith of the height, he launches you upwards and you fall into his gaping maw.
The third and final phase is inside the mechanical workings of the Master Overlord itself. While avoiding the dangerous hazards within the bot, you have to locate the unprotected side of the Master Emerald before Metal Overlord pulls an Extermatus on Angel Island!
After you rip out a few wires that powers up the robot, the battle ends with you and the Master Emerald breaking out the draconic doppelgänger and somehow surviving the fall with the Emerald still in one piece.
Not bad. Sort of like my last duel against the Anti-Clone until he had been weakened enough that Tronsdeltador de-possessed him, except instead of the Master Emerald it was the Chaos Emeralds. And instead of the Chaos Emeralds it was the Wolf Crystal-Hybrids. The others (as in the other Ulti-Wolves, Wolf 2s, Anti-Wolves, and other alternate versions of "video game characters" (as they each exist within their own clusterverses) were helping with keeping me cover while I beat my Anti-Wolf (which U referred to as the Anti-Clone) senseless. It is not possible to interact with a host universe in any way, shape, or form, so what's cannon in our reality is what's cannon in the host universes, or actually the other way around, as that's how the multiverse works.

The mandates feel really weird on shadow when you realise in the games he’s written more as a caring hedgehog that helps sonic out and has friends.
Imagine reading the forces prequel comic and seeing a moody shadow and then you hop into the game and see shadow constantly smiling throughout the game and helping out

I'm glad the IDW comics exist and the people in charge of it really seem to care about the characters and telling a good story. I love Archie but most of my love for it comes when it started to clean up shop and be more consistent. I'll miss the old characters, but I believe in IDW.
Really my only issues with the comic seem to be issues caused by, you guessed it, Sega. The way they force Sonic and Shadow to act is so limiting.

If Sega ever bought every character from the Archie Sonic comics that were banished from continuity due to the Penders Lawsuit and they were to integrate many of these characters alongside characters from The Post-Super Genesis Wave Archie universe, Fleetway, AoSTH, SatAM, Underground, Sonic X, OVA, and Boom into the games and IDW comics.
Who would you want to see and how would you integrate them to fit in?
I’d go with Scourge and the Destructix and introduce them trashing the Deadly Six to show how strong they are.

Definitely bring Scourge and the Destruction back. I know Sega won't do it, but I think it adds a lot that Sonic's and Tails's families were present in the Archie comics. Taking Uncle Chuck and retconning him into a non-blood relative was weird.

Make sonic just a LITTLE BIT more hesitant to do harm and make Shadow a little less violent toward Sonic.

Awesome! I just finished reading this arc and I loved it! I just loved how the characters were developed so much better in this arc than Sonic Forces ever did with the characters. I also liked seeing how they brought in some elements from the games like Sonic Heroes. I can't wait to read the Metal Virus next!
I can't explain exactly why but i started crying around the 7 minute mark, i can't explain it too well, but, the sonic franchise played the biggest part in my childhood and after Forces and everything that happened after, it feels overwhelmingly amazing that people like Ian Flynn still care enough to pour their love into the series for others who also fell in love with these characters and this world as well. It was a lot of emotions all at once and i had tears running down my face not even ten minutes in. It feels good.
Definitely have to agree with you here regarding Knuckles in Forces... he definitely seems like he'd be best as a sergeant in motion.

To be fair, tails still piloted the tornado and had 2 eggman boss fights in unleashed. Just cuz hes also intimidated by ancient God monsters that came out of a cracked earth doesn't make him a wimp. He a scientist, eggman and robots he can handle. Ancient earth god monsters is a little out of his wheelhouse.
This comic (along with the release of Hyrule Warriors 2) has made me want a Warriors style Sonic game mostly so we can play as all of these characters in a matching scenario. Seriously, this and the second arc would be perfect storylines for a game where you use a few hero characters to mow down a massive army of fodder.

Personally, my fav sonic comic series is the sonic boom one. It really gives a lot of character build up on Amy and sonic for that matter. Like, making the “fearless” hero claustrophobic, saying that yeah, he can have fears and isn’t always strong. And I think that it grows on Amy’s personality. Plus the art is pretty cool

The Archie characters were never successful in emulating the games’ character designs. They looked more like furry Star Fox art than actual Sonic characters. IMO btw

You bring up a great point on wanting to play Whisper and Tangle in a game, I can imagine a game with controls that just click where you grapple, swing, launch, and shoot around with Tangle's tail, or a game where you have to use Whisper's different whisps to defeat certain enemies or open certain doors, maybe even unlocking them as you go on as the whisps have been kidnapped or something

I just love the sonic comics, that was my gateway into the series, I've not played any of the games really well at all not getting attached to them.. but reading these comics have been quite good. No matter if it were the hodgepodge of what was Archie, or the more streamlined IDW. They all have their quirks and good stories. So, just enjoy, don't go in with any preconceived notions. Except that sonic is Sonic.

I also associated "speed" with "catch up" and "bring you up to speed" because I don't even read or have read the Sonic Comics but your Speed Reading videos help "bring me up to speed" and "catch me up" on anything and everything I've missed. It's awesome! Your content is fantastic!
The thing about catchphrases is frequency. If they're not being used all the time to be remembered, alliteration, reiteration, and rhyme will help them get remembered because of flow. I hope this helps (and I hope you use all of these in future videos; no copyright!) , but honestly, as long as you keep opening with "Welcome to Sonic Speed Reading," the rest is gold. 34:37 ok so with the hitler thing, my take is that we should humanize him and understand he was human, but not let that excuse his actions. By dehumanizing him it almost makes us forget that yes he was like a normal person and yes he CHOSE to be like this. It’s important to show that we have to make a choice to be this way, and to be understanding that anyone can choose to be that way but we shouldn’t. Humanize him, realize he was human, but make it clear he chose to do wrong. He made a choice that no one else should ever make.

I realized that Metal Sonic was qouting "What I'm made of" before going Super
I unfortunately didn't grow up seeing Sally. I knew of her, I saw SatAM a few times and the little I saw I wasn't a big fan... hell I have more attachment to Manic the Hedgehog since I saw more underground than SatAM.
I think the fact that Amy is now the commander kind of uses my shorthand to give Amy a huge character arc without giving me the story. From a ditzy color blind valley girl to a competent commander that still has some of her base qualities pop up from time to time. "Humanizes" her to me. (As much as you can humanize an anthro hedgehog)
If the next sonic game has an awful written story, I will take this as cannon

@@crazydgr2464 While I haven't read much of the IDW comics, from what I have read I'm really starting to like Ian Flynn. He just seems to have a passion for these characters and this world that you rarely see in the games these days. He isn't afraid to give the characters the screen/page time that they deserve like the writers of the games seem to be. He's taking elements from the games and expanding on them but in a way that feels natural. In other words he's not straight up saying "ok, let's make Sonic's old design an entirely separate character for no logical reason other than the fact fans keep going on and on about how much they hate the newer design!" It's cool that he's utilizing unused ideas from the Archie series but doesn't try to shoehorn in the non game characters that were introduced in the Archie comics continuity (some say that's because of some kind of mandate by Sega that Archie characters cannot be a part of this new comic, but personally I think it's because Flynn has the sense not to include those characters because he knows that they would just feel out of place in a story that's based on the game's continuity.) And the new characters that he introduces just feel more at home here. Tangle, Whisper, Jewel, Dr. Starline, Rough & Tumble; I'd kill to see these characters in the games!
So yeah, I think Flynn would be a safe bet! Sega should consider it at the very least!
@@bowmaj8666 The only downside is that the mandates will limit him on his creative freedom. But writer and artist Evan Stanley has confirmed that the mandates can be limited to a certain extent
i remember sonic the comic from all the way back since archie did it. i even bought all the comics i remember issue # 25 ithink it was the first time we were introduced to metal sonic!!! i dont remember when or why i stopped buying the comic but i must admit ive not bought the comic in many years im so glad that you are reintroducing me to the sonic world thank you it really means alot to me#!!!!!! i really love the emotion you put into telling the stories.. it really is appreciated by me. thank you so much game apologist im glad to know that we share the same favorite game of all time sonic 3 and knuckles!!!# you are greatly appreciated by me and if nothing else i really appreciate you very much keep on telling the story of sonic the hedgehog i love and respect you for your love of sonic!!!!

From what I’m gathering from these comics and your thoughts, Sonic Forces should have been a beat-em-up where you can play as all the members of the Sonic cast, which honestly sounds pretty fun

I've only read a little bit of the IDW comics throughout its run and now that they have the collection of issues in volumes I think I want to start reading the whole series
The Robotnik/Tinker issue reminds me of a similar situation that occurred in the video game, Destiny 2. A character named Uldren had been responsible for the events of an entire expansion; releasing and leading an enemy faction, game ending a main character who was a fan favorite, and through deception releasing a terrible darkness into the world. All the while he showed no remorse or the like.
Flash forward a bit, and Uldren is chosen to become a Guardian, in the process having his memories wiped and being resurrected as one of the very beings that were just hunting him. He knew none of this mind you, and in fact took a new name, Crow. Nowadays, Crow is a mainstay character who a vast majority of the fanbase have forgiven for who he was, because he is a different person now. Again, this is a similar scenario with Tinker and Robotnik, being the same being, but a different person altogether.
These comics are somehow really awesome. Who would've known that Sonic had something legit great hiding under all the jankiness over the years.
I’m only here because it’s too hard to find Sonic comics physically, and it’s not immersive enough to read them digitally, so recaps are the only way worth my time.
