My budgie has been really confident lately. Now he flies to me without hesitation, and he even comes to my desk and goes to my head. So im glad that im not a threat to him anymore
Bittersweet, so happy Widget has a forever home, but it looks like Capri is going to miss him/her. Jamie, it's so sweet how like a mom sending her child off to camp with lots of goodies making sure Widget gets off to a good start. Thanks to you, Dave and Capri, Widget is off to his/her forever home. Thanks for sharing the journey!
Aww this made me tear up, especially seeing the way Capri was cuddling Widget. Thank you for all you guys do and giving birds a second chance. All the best in your new home cutie 🥰
I don't not get upset but I also know they're going when they first come so I try to have the proper mindset going into it - and when they're ready, it's just the beginning, not the end.
Why am I crying? We love you, Widget! I hope your new humans have a youtube channel. 😭 Seriously, though, it's so noble of you guys to prep these birds for success in their forever homes. I'm sure the rebonding can be tough, but when I think of the foundations they have been given it's such a better way to start the rest of their lives than having them go to their longterm families terrified of humans.
Thank you Jamieleigh, Dave, and Capri for allowing us to see all of your processes and journeys (aka “flock-life” as I like to call it) not only with your flock but with rescue birds. Looking forward to receiving your brand of pellets for my lovebird , Kiwi (male) and fancy conure, Mikko (female) and the Tiny Toy Box. God bless you and your family! Keep up the great work and for educating non-seasoned as well as somewhat seasoned flock parents.
I’m birdtricks biggest fan although very sad widget is leaving 😢😭 but happy for him the best bird welll done birdtricks for teaching widget and making a ton of videos on widget🥰👍😎🤗😁😃😀
I know it’s not easy to see widget go. You all have to have formed an attachment to her. Hopefully she’ll be very happy in her new forever home. It was wonderful watching her grow.☺️🥰
Awww goodbyes are always hard! It's nice to know Widg found a good home though. I see Mr. Blue there... and I have a question. My son and I rescued our own little Blue parakeet from a neighbour who left him in the sun while he was at work. My son asked if he could have him and the guy said yes much to our relief. Blue seems to be an older bird amd he is very skittish. I would like to form a bond with him, but I don't know how to start. Any advice?
Congratulations on your new family member! I know Birdtricks has some great vids on helping budgies come out of their shells. I think one of the birds is named Snow?
@@TamaraKane Thanks! I have never had a caged for keeps bird before. Wild birds that I have nursed back to health eg. Splint legs and wings, wet birds, abandoned chicks - that I know, but they were all released wild birds. Bonding with birds... I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
I got a few tips. So first just like let it out of the cage and let it get used to you. Then try to tame it (there's lots of videos on taming.) Although don't let the bird "settle" in for 2 weeks in the cage like some people do. Try interacting with them or talking to them when you first bring them so they get used to you. And when it's tame maybe try training it.
They recently released an entire budgie course on their website, it goes through everything and even how to get back on your feet if you fail with your new budgie. Highly recommended it!
@@liza-marie89 it's so cool that you have a good start with rescue birds! If you can nurse a birdy back to health, you'll do great loving your forever bird. For me, with any animal I have, I make sure I'm giving them a healthy diet first. Clean cage with toys is super important. They'll appreciate you if you treat them as well as you would another person or child. When my family had birds, I didn't know about target training, but I still taught our cockatiels to talk by talking to them and rewarding them with their favorite healthy snacks. We would also let the bird out in the house every day so it could watch TV with us or "sneak" some of its veggies while we prepped them. I can't wait to try target training with a new rescue bird! I'm saving up money to give them the best life I can. I want to get an older bird and help mend a broken heart. ❤️ Think you might post any updates on your bird's journey? If you decide to, I would be happy to subscribe to your channel. In any case, I wish you the very best with your new little friend! ❤️😊
I'm wondering how Capri does with these project birds and having to say goodbye? I would think she gets very attached, and then they have to leave. How do you handle this with her?
Hi! I recently met a galah, and fell in love with them, i really want to buy one but have watched a lot of videos not recommending them, do you know of any galah sized birds that are known to have a little bit of a nicer nature? Also are female galahs nicer than males?
I know you might not see this but I have a question. I’m getting a bird soon I had one before it was a budgie I didn’t really know anything about birds until I did research and watched you channel. I’m planning on getting a green cheek conure I know that’s a big change I am prepared for everything training, food, the behavior they have. I’m just wondering if I shouldn’t get a green cheek even though I feel prepared getting one. I would’ve got a cockteil but I know they have a lot of dander and I have minor allergies that get triggered fast. And advice?
How is Blueberry so calm around bigger birds? I have an adorable blue budgie who is so WEIRD around my other bird (parrotlet), I think he feels threatened or jealous or something, so he constantly acts aggressive and spazzy with the parrotlet.
They actually have a bit more than 10 because they also raise doves (unless I'm just thinking of their parents/in-laws). I'm sure they love their doves, but I don't know how easy it is to highlight their individual personalities because they have their birdie flock and seem content. I think they still spend a fair bit of time with them, though, training them for shows and taking care of their nesting areas. They have been in some of the videos, too. Their aviaries are beautiful. I honestly don't know if they all have individual names, but I think it's probably really different from parrot species training since they don't talk to or bond with humans in the exact same way. Dove owners please correct me if I'm wrong. I had a pair of mourning doves who made their nest in my geraniums year after year. My kids named them Cutie and Happy Dad. They raised four sets of babies on our patio. They didn't even mind us being around them because our presence protected their nest from crows, ravens, and hawks. If you want doves to nest near you and they are native to your area, I highly suggest hanging wicker basket potted geraniums. They loved hiding under the geranium leaves. It might work with other plants, too, I just know they loved the whicker pots. That said, RIP my geraniums because I couldn't water them frequently when the pair was nesting there.
@@TamaraKane I actually have an outdoor aviary of rescued/adopted doves.☺ I knew she had a small flock of them, but I was assuming the question meant only parrots, which is why I meant she has 10 parrots in total. The doves can bond extremely well and be very affectionate to people, it's just not quite as common as it is for parrots.
@@pidgieprincess7246 that totally makes sense! Thank you for your insight on doves. I have had cockatiels and budgies, but I am new to dove info! That's really cool. 😎
@@spiritmatter1553 this is misinformation. Dave has a lot of doves for his magic shows. They just don't appear in their normal vidros but they mention them in quite a few videos.
Interestingly enough, Jason is the one who gives us our doves but he keeps them when we aren't doing shows (so its been a year or so now) but we don't keep them outside of having them for shows anymore. They're all his and he has a very successful aviary with them. I got rid of my backyard aviaries I was keeping them in in the winters because they were becoming too flimsy and were never that well made. I donated them to Animal Wonders Montana.
i will miss you widget . i also have a question i got 2 dig metal bowl when i put them in the cage i realized that its to big so i had an idea of putting clean rocks in the bottom of the dish i wanted to ask you guys first
Hi Jamieleigh! If you see this, bit of a tangent question, but I noticed you painted your kitchen cabinets at some point. Any tips on how to do this safely with birds? Been wanting to, but putting it off for fear of harming our lil green-cheek!
I am so glad for Widget. Y'all are awesome! I got a question, probably not very smart question. Can birds be spayed or neutered? Sounds really cruel, I know. Just curious. As always ya'll rock!
In some extreme cases, such as cancer, female birds can have a hysterectomy! But that’s a very major surgery, not just something you do for general protection.
I have a female indian ringneck parakeet, she is free flight trained but she tends to be aggressive. I know that ringnecks tend to be quite aggressive but I really want her to bond with my cockatiel, because its quite hard to let them out the cage at the same time because my ringnecks keeps on attacking my cockatiel when they are near each other, any tips?. Thanks!
I love your videos, but just one note - I can’t have audio on with your videos because you crinkle bags so often, it makes my bird scream and go nuts and then attack and bite. I just thought you might want to know that and, if you care at all, edit that out. I know I’m not the only one with a bird who is super triggered by crinkle sounds. I never ever keep anything in crinkly bags around my birds, unless I WANT to upset them
