I wish I saw your video before I went to Iceland, this is the best one I've seen! We did the ring road in a week and miraculously got around despite the record snowfall in Reykjavik! It was an amazing experience and definitely recommend a visit to the other corners of the country as the scenery changes so dramatically. The drive from Vik to the eastern Fjords was breathtaking. Food-wise we especially enjoyed eating Plokkfiskur at Sjavarpakkhusid in Stykkisholmur on the Snaefellsnes peninsula in the west and back in Reykjavik we had delicious Lamb soup, kjötsúpa at Cafe Babalu in the center and Lobster soup, humarsupa by a food van called Lobster Hut along Laugevegur whilst experiencing the nightlife. An amazing country with so much to see!
Hi Kamran! We're so glad you loved Iceland as much as we did! I think I speak for the whole team when I say - WE WANT TO GO BACK NOW! haha. You're so right the views when driving are just breathtaking, and well done for getting around the ring road!!!! The weather can make it dangerous when driving, but you clearly had it handled. We hope your next adventure is just as amazing as your Iceland one was! :D
I'm Icelandic and I like watching videos of people giving advice about Iceland. This video is the best I've seen, really nice work. There are two things though that I'd love to see mentioned. 1. warn people to be careful here, it breaks our hearts when we read news about tourists getting seriously injured or dying from accidents. Just few weeks ago a German woman died at the black beach near Vík and her husband and two children witnessed it, so sad. 2. If people get into trouble then don't hesitate to ask for help on the emergency number, the people in our SAR teams are volenteers so if you need help and they help you out then donate to them if you can.
Hi Staralfur0301! Firstly thank you for your lovely feedback on our guides, we genuinely loved Iceland and we're so glad we could do it justice! Excellent video and great tips! There is also a public bus that goes from the airport to the city at selected times. They are cheaper than flybus or grayline.
What time of year are you going? And if you want some inspiration for things to do on the south coast then check out our other video from Iceland - ruclips.net/video/xE6B-doCZV4/видео.html.
Just back from Reykjavik (November and freezing!). Haven't driven there for decades but loved doing it for camping. Blue Lagoon required about 3 days ahead booking so don't expect just to walk in. The museums are great. Aurora by Greyline coach 'tour' got us two sightings (check it out on my site). Food was great (try Arctic Char) . Smoked hung lamb sandwiches is a thing and delicious for the plane on the way home! Check my Iceland playlist out please. I wish I had had a look at yours prior to going. I am still working on more from my visit which will include a museums one and a Videy island one,
Just went there a month ago and it was awesome. Unfortunately, we were not able to catch the northern lights even though we spent 3 nights chasing them. We were there for 10 days and we did not experience falling snow at all. We read that it snowed just before we arrived and a day after we left. Well, nothing we can do about mother nature. However, hoping to catch the natural phenomenon of the aurora borealis the next time we head up north. Best memories of Iceland for me would be Jökulsárlón (glacier lagoon / diamond beach), Glacier walk at Glacier Svinafellsjokull, Blue lagoon, Icelandic hotdogs, Waterfalls (Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, Gullfoss), Geysers (Strokkur), Downtown Reykjavik, Vik (black sand beach), Stracta hotel, Hotel Reykjavík Centrum. It was a wonderful holiday. Ísland!
Hi Mark! Thanks for sharing your experience with us! The lights are very elusive, and fingers crossed for next time - though with clear skies and a good forecast strength you have a very good chance of seeing them up North!! The Glacier Lagoon was amazing, and Vik Beach was one of our favorites too - I think you'll agree when I say 'WE MISS ICELAND!'. Well we have more Iceland content going live this week, and if you still need a fix before that check out the behind the scenes daily vlogs of our filming there! ruclips.net/p/PLDF7pO6awDNEWAP8zb0mbmaXT6XOx_jpZ Thanks for watching Mark :)
When was mother nature not worth it 😝 Haha really quite wait for the experience, pretty much everything booked and 4x4 for getting around 👍 Agreed Sweden has some equally stunning sights, you've not been ? But for the real unadulterated energy and awesomeness I think Icelands going to tick that box 🤣 Spain...well actually LOS GIGANTES,TENERIFE 😎
Fantastic well do tell us how it goes! Well even though we haven't been to Sweden we can help you with Tenerife.. in fact we have a whole playlist of videos for you! ruclips.net/p/PLDF7pO6awDNGZ4AOE_O4GNynXlvVN3p69 :D
this was an amazing video! awesome advice & beautiful shots! 😍 also, I plan on seeing Iceland in December, what is the name of the ice tour you went to?
Hi Mary! Thanks so much!! You'll love it there, it's so beautiful and there's just so much to see! We went with www.iceguide.is/ to Vatnahjokull Glacier Bay - let us know how you get on, and thanks for watching! :)
Hi Kristin! We would have loved to - it looks simply beautiful!!! If we ever get to go back West Iceland will be the next adventure! Thanks for watching, and check out our Awe-Inspiring Things to do.. let us know if you'd add anything :D ruclips.net/video/xE6B-doCZV4/видео.html
Thank you. I am planning a trip to Iceland soon. I was wondering if I could fill a whole week with activities, (I'm a pretty active traveler, up at dawn down at midnight type) looks like there's plenty to keep me busy.
Finally I found a video with British people going, now I know the pound to the krona. I'm going solo so I'm hoping to meet people and travel to see the northern lights
Hey Jakku, good luck on your Iceland trip! When are you planning on going? Also, if you want some ideas for things to do along the south coast then check out our other Iceland video here - ruclips.net/video/xE6B-doCZV4/видео.html.
Holiday Extras Travel Guides thank you very much for the info, I'm heading off next month so I'm really pretty excited hehe, I'm spending a week there so I hope to get everything I wanna see done.
Ohhh nice, we filmed our travel guide in November so the footage you see in our videos is roughly what you can expect. A week should be plenty of time, good luck seeing the northern lights too! And our top tip is to bring some thermal underwear, it meant that we could stay outside all day without getting too cold!
I'm really hoping I see the northern lights but I won't get too disappointed if i don't, did you get a reykjavík city card when you went out there by any chance ?. And I have already made a trip to primark & sports direct for my jumper & thermal needs as it's the cheaper way hehe
Yeah that's a good attitude to have, cloudy nights can be quite common in Iceland. We didn't get a city card as we didn't stay in Reykjavik for long. However if you make full use of the discounts it may be worth thinking about. Food & drink is very expensive in Iceland, so be prepared! Also, if you need travel insurance or any help with parking at the airport in the UK etc then make sure to visit us - www.holidayextras.com. Have a great trip!
Hi! Me and my wife would like to visit iceland in mid september and I have to say this video has great information, to me the best iceland travel video on iceland. I was wondering, as you told you had rain, snow and it was very cloudy how was the cloud polution when you saw the northern lights? I think it is needed to have a cloudless sky?
Hi, JojoJood! Cloud pollution can be monitored on belgingur.is, and yes you do need clear skies / a strong aurora forecast in order to see them :) Wrap up warm and be prepared to wait, but I promise you it's worth it!!! Here's the full 'How to see the Northern Lights' video section if you need it - ruclips.net/video/nVl59taQMNk/видео.html :) Happy Travels!
beth forrester Hello Beth!! The beauty and adventure of Iceland outweighs every reservation ..so go!!! If budget is your thing costs can be kept down through using an Airbnb, making food there etc, and the weather is all about being sensible! So if you hire a car, make sure it's winter worthy, take your time, and drive with caution just as you would here. We have a whole playlist of Vlogs from our time there if you still need convincing! Happy New Year! 🇮🇸✨
beth forrester I hope you find time and money to visit someday ☺ Let me direct your attention to my channel. It has the greatest collection of travel ideas for Iceland on youtube today ☺
Thankksss :) If you love Iceland then check out other videos to see what you think? ruclips.net/video/xE6B-doCZV4/видео.html&lc=UgyKirarAYjPc8r5IiN4AaABAg We REALLY want to go back
Hi, it really depends on the weather at the time and your own preferences. Booking day tours from Reykjavik is a more reliable way to get around in winter if you lack experience driving in the snow or the dark. However you will lack some of the freedom of having your own car. It might be a decision best made near your trip based on weather forecasts etc. en.vedur.is/ is the Icelandic weather website and www.road.is/ has all the driving information you'll need. But if in doubt, a coach tour is the safest way to get around :)
Great Vlog and very interesting for first time Travellers. However it should be titled “ What to do in Reykjavík and Southern Iceland” There is nothing on here from Snæfellsnes Peninsula....Western Fjords.....North Iceland or East Iceland. All these areas hold many many fantastic things. I’m lucky to have done all and would recommend visiting this wonderful country.
Hey Jurgen! Yes, we only did the area that is the most popular for people travelling Iceland for a short time :) We would finally recommend going further afield as we loved Iceland!
Hi Old Soul - It's always best to pre-book car hire as it's quite expensive when you're there - www.holidayextras.co.uk/car-hire.html?launch_id=ENG Happy Travels! :)
Hi Old Soul 😝 Give these peeps a try www.lotuscarrental.is/ they were the most competitive for us, and we searched extensively to secure a decent price for 7 days rental... Good Luck 🍀
Hi Ruchie, Iceland weather is very unpredictable! Check out en.vedur.is/ for up to date weather activity, but in general we found November to be super cold, and snowy!! Thanks for watching :)
I really want to go during the first week of March and only going on the south coast but I have zero experience driving in snow and ice and so I am worried if this will be a good idea?
Hi Anna, March should be a good time to go to Iceland as the weather will start to pick up. However, it can still be extremely changeable so it's hard for us to say for certain if driving conditions will be good or not. If you only want to drive the south coast then you will be able to stick to the Ring Road, which is the largest and best-serviced road in the country. The best place to go for advice on driving in Iceland is www.road.is/. They're the experts so take their advice. Good luck and we hope you have a great trip :)
Hey, the best thing to do if you're concerned is to check the Icelandic weather and travel websites. en.vedur.is/ for weather and www.road.is/ for driving advice. Read these websites and follow their advice, they're the experts 😀. There are definitely hostels in Reykjavik, and likely in some of the larger towns such as Akureyri. Hope this helps, February should be a good time to go. You should have a great chance of seeing the northern lights!
Hi Arman, thanks so much! In our experience everywhere we've visited in Iceland takes cards just fine. If you're staying in Reykjavik then just having card is no problem, but if you're travelling the ring road then taking a little cash with you certainly can't hurt.
Thank you for the response! Are there stores or establishments which offer gears for rent? You mentioned in the video that most of your additional gears/equipment were provided by the tour guide. :)
We're sure that you could find something in Reykjavik if you need to hire hiking equipment. For anything specialist like glacier hiking then you'll need a tour guide and the company you use will provide any extra equipment beyond the basics such as hiking boots etc. We went to Iceland with hiking boots, waterproof trousers, good winter coats, hats, gloves etc. If you're going in winter then make sure you bring thermal underwear, it helps a lot! :) Don't forget to check out our other Iceland videos - ruclips.net/video/xE6B-doCZV4/видео.html
Hi Jaffar! We probably spent around £80 per person per day - On the plus side most places take card so you could always exchange a smaller amount, and use your card if you need to :) You'll have an amazing time - Let us know how you get on! :D
+Holiday Extras Travel Guides thanks alot for ur help but rytnow I Dnt have any card to use I only have a bank account so I should apply for a card now. per person u spent eighty £ a day that's interesting haha I will go asap n shoot some videos for u people thanks for the help once again u guys are amazing

Here's the full 'How to see the Northern Lights' video section if you need it - ruclips.net/video/nVl59taQMNk/видео.html :) Happy Travels!
Iceland looks amazing but so expensive and scary weather
beth forrester Hello Beth!!

We REALLY want to go back
Hello! How expensive is it to rent a car? Is it cheaper to book tours?
Hi, would you recommend that we book day tours from Reykjavik instead if we are intending to travel to Iceland in winter? Thanks!
Hey Jurgen! Yes, we only did the area that is the most popular for people travelling Iceland for a short time :)
We would finally recommend going further afield as we loved Iceland!
great video, very informative. do they drive manual or auto car? thanks
Hi Old soul! They have both Manual and Automatic cars - We used a manual when we were there :)
Thanks for watching!
Cool because I only can drive auto car. Thank you for the response
Hi Old Soul - It's always best to pre-book car hire as it's quite expensive when you're there - www.holidayextras.co.uk/car-hire.html?launch_id=ENG
Happy Travels! :)
Hi Old Soul 😝 Give these peeps a try www.lotuscarrental.is/ they were the most competitive for us, and we searched extensively to secure a decent price for 7 days rental... Good Luck 🍀
Variable Mindset thanks will shop around
Your saying the amount in pounds the curreny is actually Icelandic krona so we can use pounds or kronas in ice land
For Iceland you'll need those Icelandic Krona 😊
Hi...how is the weather is iceland in November end/December first week?? is it a good time for travel or very rainy.??
Good luck and we hope you have a great trip :)
great shots! what kind of camera did you use?
Hi Jon. For all of the Iceland footage we used a Sony A7S, Sony RX100, DJI Inspire, and a DJI Osmo! Hope this helps! :)
I'm going in in the middle of winter, now i'm afraid to rent a car... And i'm also afraid it's going to be blizzard 24/7. Do they have hostels?
Hey, the best thing to do if you're concerned is to check the Icelandic weather and travel websites. en.vedur.is/ for weather and www.road.is/ for driving advice. Read these websites and follow their advice, they're the experts 😀.
There are definitely hostels in Reykjavik, and likely in some of the larger towns such as Akureyri.
Hope this helps, February should be a good time to go. You should have a great chance of seeing the northern lights!
Super Excited!!! thanks for all the info!
You're welcome, have a great trip!
Hi I love your video! So informative and so fun. Just a question, can we survive on credit cards alone? :)

Hi K20Z3Civi09, a tube of toothpaste will set you back about £3.22 or 415 kr, and a toothbrush should cost about the same. Hope that helps!
