  • It's time for a big decision. Do we go north or south for hurricane season? Also, we get the boat provisioned, so we're ready to leave Barbados and go for one last dive.

@15:57 - Sure other channels covered it, thing is I dont watch 100 channels, I watch around 3, so what I am saying is do YOUR thing! I love the way your channel has transitioned into cruising/repair/upgrades and Ava's portion with history and guides for shopping and such. Keep it up! Dont fret that you went to the same place as someone else did, good chance few of your viewers will have seen the other person's video and if they did then you guys will have done it differently. I was a full time pro-photographer for a number of years and I learned that 10 photogs could ALL shoot the same shot of something and we all edit differently, crop differently, color grade differently, in the end all 10 of us have different results. Dont sweat it

I think the way to success or happy viewers is: do your own thing, don’t try to please everyone. Be yourself. I started off watching an IT guy refurbishing a canoe called Obelix ( sounds like a recipe to success )then he got that Athena Soul Reaper of a boat, turned her into a spiffy looking true Warrior ( quite possibly the greatest Warrior the world has seen ), along the way he expressed his hopes and dreams to not care too much but finding a cool girl ( check 👍) to rock across oceans and see the world. Works for me 😅
    Greetings from ze germ many

Some small pulleys and some line and you could have a solution that works for your day to day, and provisioning. Hinged or straight up you can creatively do whatever. It looked great in their galley. Just thought I would pass that along if you had not considered it. Cheers.

This is a good idea. We found the only place we could tie up in a seriously rapid tidal estuary was at a public pontoon. Anchoring was not vaguely possible, but the fender board saved us from being spat out over the bar into the sea.

Make yourself a beater board for fending off those pipes and pilings! Basically you get something like a long 2x12 board and thread ropes through holes at the ends. So you can hang your board from the lifeline stanchions, put the board outside your fenders, and let the board mash against the pilings or pipes!

Hi Mads and Ava, first congratulations for the GREAT work you do with your videos, the mix of DYI, places, experiences and visits is great and you both complement each other very well.
Mads, I REALLY love your DYI style, actually you are the reason why I am doing a full refit on my boat, end to end. I saw all your videos, follow all your tips & tricks, glorious sanding, spiffy finishes, etc.
Recommendation: You asked about what video we would like to see. I like the mix of travel + DYI done by Ava and you respectively.
    * My video request: The electrical system.
The only video I did not see, and would love to see is about your full electric system. As a such dedicated en enthusiast person you are, I think maybe you can do a diagram about all the connections. The connectivity between your Battery bank cells, Engine Battery, BMS, DC to DC, AC to DC, Isolator converter, DC to AC Inverter, solar panels, MPPT charger, Alternator etc etc etc. So basically how everything is connected together.
I have all the parts on each box, ready to begin the installation, but I would like to see how did you do it, to decide how to connect everything together. Or in case you cannot do it or you think it is not a good Idea, I will really appreciate if you can just send me a diagram about your electrical system and connections.
BTW, I live in Argentina, at the bottom of the world, we do not have all the options like in Europe or in North America, so we are very used to the DYI.
I would love to see you guys around here in case sometime in your life you decide to go South in America. You will be more than welcome here in Buenos Aires - Argentina.
Thanks a lot and keep doing the great job you guys are doing, and enjoying the life what is the most important thing we have 🙂

I also recommend fender boards to use when docking against a rough or irregular seawall. I had ones that were 8ft by 8 inches and 5/4" thick made from white oak. They were suspended by lines at each end. I put 1" half oval stainless steel on one side to protect the wood against chafe. Fair winds and following seas.

You might want to get a magic siphon… (also called a jiggle siphon) and …the dirt and water in the dockside fuel can be an issue in some places… the magic siphon will let you get the fuel out of the jugs and leave the water and dirt at the bottom of the jerry jugs…you can put clean fuel in the tanks. You can let the jerry jug sit and the dirt will settle out.

  • @deislanddave
    @deislanddave Год назад

Mads: With respect to jugging fuel, I use an XChangr electric pump (same one I use for changing engine oil to pump fuel from jugs still in the dinghy into the boat tank. This avoids the heavy lift from the dinghy onto the boat. I use a spare fresh water pressure pump to do the same with water when jugging that. It takes a while to pump but usually that isn't a problem and it reduces the risk of spills.

Mads, when you do get to the East coast of the US when the weather is bad you can bail out onto the InterCoastal Waterway (ICW). It runs from Florida up to the Chesapeake (though you probably won't be able to use it in Georgia because they don't dredge). The bridges that aren't draw bridges you will be able to get under. The down side is running the motor.

For underwater video I recommend that you first buy some lights. This is really the key. A go pro (newer) with a underwater housing and lights takes great videos. I currently use a Sony a7sii and a go pro 11. But I have recently purchased a housing for my iPhone. I haven't had a chance to use it but I believe that it will work fine. The problem with getting a housing for your mirrorless is that the housing are designed for one camera, then after 3 or 4 years you would like to update your camera, which means you would have to buy a new housing. Hope this helps.

We spent a week at a big marina/yacht yard there and I literally called them when the charge hit my credit card, thinking they had made a mistake. For your swim platform, could you put it on vertical tracks so that it can be raised and lowered. In theory you could raise and lower the dinghy with it as well as you and your dive gear.
I think that would be really spiffy to have a platform lift.
In fact i pucture it being rasied and the aft part swinging down and being fastened back to the tracks so the platform becomes vertical as well.

Hi guys! Great video as always. We're full time cruisers as well and love to dive and have all of our own gear for it. For filming, we've got a Seafrog underwater housing in which we house our GH5 with two 5K lumen Orchalights. We've had this set up now for almost 5 years and we use our GH5 for the diving video as well as for our vlog and we have found it to be really versatile. The Seafrog housing was one of the cheapest in the market and that's really the main reason we bought but now we're really happy we did. Easy to handle getting in and out of the dinghy and we've been able to take it snorkeling and diving and controlling the ISO and such are pretty easy. Currently it is very buoyant so we do need to get some weights to make it neutrally buoyant but all in all I love it. It's a bit bulky but we take turns during the dive holding it. (vlogger to vlogger, we're not sponsored by any of these guys just to be clear :)) We're going to keeping our boat in Curacao for the hurricane season but I hope we run into eachother down there diving!!

Moon Hole is a local attraction when sailing past the southern tip (or used to be; it's been over a decade since I was last there). Definitely hit up the Tobago Cays for a bit of reef exploration, though beware the rip current that can show up. Local boats will (again, older knowledge) deliver ice, lobster, bread etc and are also used as water taxis. In general, western-side anchorages will be safer/nicer. Good eating too with a fishing line.

Once you got to the target location I have not heard a dickybird (UK) concerning a/c in any respects. Even giving other channels a passing thought in your adventure should be the furthest thing from your mind. I've watched I think five channels go to the Bahamas, every experience is different because it's about the people, not the destination.

As always great informative videos, some adventures and some fun, I even enjoy the always boring technical videos which are my favorites ! Keep doing a fantastic job !

From one diving couple to another one I suggest more diving. I should broaden your viewer ship with little effort. Otherwise no back to your bread and butter, boat projects!! Love the show.

Dude, make a fender board or two and you can dock at the fuel jetty.

Admiralty Bay in Bequia. One of the great anchorages of the world. Might be a bit crowded these days. By the way Grenada was devastated by a hurricane many years ago. Virtually wiped out the spice crop.

Make yourself a fender board, helps for when you have dock to a fuel dock like that.

Just found this channel. You guys are awesome! Great style! I miss diving and dream about getting back on a boat. Thanks for the video. Thanks for the upbeat nature and humor! "Liquid diamonds." That killed me. I thought! "Almonds."
I'll be combing through your content. I just love how you've brought that boat to life!
    Take good care!

Surprised you didn't decide to stop in St. Lucia. Rodney Bay Marina has greatly facilites and the scuba driving is spectacular. Also, the Grenadines are all down-hill from there.

Wise decision on yard fees. The US has become ridiculous on fees. I live here, and it really is horrible. I live in Southern California, and it's better to just go to Ensenada if you have the time.

I like almonds too, not too sure about the peanut butter substitute, must be better for you though. We use plastic diesel cans as well, but it doesn't make filling up any less tedious! The balance of DIY and adventures is good for me, but I see someone else has also mentioned the Pacific... mmmm

We do the exact opposite of you guys - we wash OFF our sunscreen before we go snorkelling and wear either a long wetty or long rash suit. Better sun protection and much better for the coral.
