I’m also an eldest IFB pastor’s daughter who grew up similarly to you, tho’ my upbringing was in the 1960-1970’s. HAC wasn’t around when my dad went to college (1957). He graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO, where I was born in his last yr of college! He was a worshipper of JFrank Norris, GB Vick, all of the big name pastors back then. Some actually taught at BBC. These were the stories I grew up hearing. My dad was a youth director at the biggest IFB church in MO, Kansas City Baptist Temple, where Wendell Zimmerman pastored. I was spoiled by the youth, being asked to stand on chairs and just answer questions (I began talking at 1!) or sing. I had 1 brother then. We lived in awful houses, 1 after another. I was blessed to have grandmothers who bought me clothes and a Mom who could sew.
I’ll post more later about when he became a pastor.
Bless your dear heart, Sadie. ❤ I want to be able to just hug your neck and know that we’ve become the ones who survived the depravity of stupid men who were put on pedestals. It was not Jesus’ way of ministering at ALL!!

Oh HELL NO...I would never let some creepy old man call my 12 year old daughter his girlfriend. HUGE RED FLAG as a parent. Need for $ or not. Even though they thought it was harmless, it was their desire for $ that allowed their daughter to be groomed. Your dad could have left the ministry for a time and get a job to support his family...It's NOT okay to throw your children into a potentially harmful situation. I'm sad for you Sadie. Thank you both for the time, energy, and funds that went into making this content available.
Before listening, my thoughts were that until HAC removed the H, they couldn’t be taken serious about changing the culture that both Jacks reigned over. Now I feel the same way about the A.
I’m not diagnosing anybody nor am I shifting the focus away from Sadie. But after watching these short clips of him and hearing Sadie share these details, that dude was mentally ill. He was a dangerous blender filled with multiple severe psychological disorders.
I am not condoning his behavior by mentioning this. I mention this because this same culture doesn’t believe in psychology or psychological behavioral disorders. And if they don’t believe in these things, the door is then wide open for the vulnerable to be targeted.

  • @bingersinger1517

As you described this older gentleman, I recognized many older “gents”. This was culturally acceptable to tell girls how to “look and behave”, to be a treasure at their side. It was how females were treated. Im not diminishing your story, but this is “accepted” behavior for females. At age 66, I am just now sorting this out.
I have 4 daughters and we were in the Gothard cult and we took great care to protect them. Im sorry that you were harmed by this man and this demeaning behavior.

    • @DrPhilGoode
      @DrPhilGoode 10 месяцев назад +6

I agree it was acceptable in the IFB and other “Christian” sub-cultures to tell girls how to look and behave. In uniquely different ways, everyone was told how to look and behave. Girls were objectified in the same way an appraiser looks over a house. Manipulation is always the key that unlocks the real treasure…power and control.
What makes this way different are the stories Sadie shared about this mans premeditated predatory tactics he used specifically to hunt young girls. I don’t believe for a minute this was normal place in the majority of IFB circles as toxic as they might have been. I am in no way complementing some IFB camps for not being as bad as others.
But this behavior is on another level. This isn’t a creepy old dude who whistles at girls while pumping gas. This dude was targeting and preying on the very innocence their identities were built upon. He stole from these girls and did it under the cover of light.
Last thing…sorry I’m almost done. Is it really fair though to hold up your parenting to their parenting and conclude that she was hurt and your daughters weren’t? Involving children in a cult and taking great care to protect them seems like an oxymoron. How would one know they are protecting their children properly but not know they have them in a cult?
This is not a personal attack on you so I apologize if it is perceived that way. I have no motive other than an overwhelming feeling of empathy and sympathy that made me look twice at some of your statements. I apologize if I’m not reading things correctly.

This seems to be a particular group of churches. I've been a member of an IFB church for 40 years, and we have never had a problem like this. We've never been tied to any college, I think we had one teacher from Hyles-Anderson College. We have many safe guards to protect our children, and we focus on strong marriages. Perhaps that has been a reason for us not having problems. I taught my present pastor when he was a child, but when I recently saw him for counseling, his wife was with him.

I have thought about this a lot but just about every Pastor I know that has narcissistic tendencies like manipulation, control, entitlement, fragile, attention seeking… they all have a rags to riches type story.
I went to a high school that was connected to an IFB church and college. The pastor often repeated his broken childhood story and as kids we would attempt to impersonate him behind his back.
It was something like… I lived in 13 different locations before my 8th birthday. I never ended a school year at the school I started the years from. My father was an alcoholic and a gambler and had a glass eye and bad limp.

Christianity is a false religion that was made up 2000 years ago. The fact that the so-called New Testament was written in Greek should be something that should be known and that the Greek God is Zeus. In the 1611 KJV English Bible, the spelling of the so called Messiah was Iesous. There was no such letter as "J" in any language. The simple facts are of such that in Genesis 1:26 Elohim says 'Let US create man in OUR IMAGE according to OUR likeness. Why don't people take a good look at all of the different bloodlines of people. Indians alone have many separate tribes with their own bloodlines. Japanese have their own bloodline. Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and so on have their own bloodline. They are all the Image and Likeness of their Maker. When there is a mixture of bloodlines, this creates confusion. But the bottom line is that everyone has a soul and we must be aware that the Creators are still approachable by prayer and we can still pray to the unknown God and get answers...speaking from experience.

Can both of you please address the atrocities going on in Gaza and the efforts of the American Evangelical movement to normalize and fund Zionism? Tbh you might both be out but you’re still complicit in the harms your communities have done worldwide.

The Zionist part of evangelicals made me so sick I stopped going to church after constantly hearing how bad Palestinians were and how amazing our “Greatest Ally”TM is. I began to read what the Bible actually says about Zionism and the history of zionist ideology.
In a nutshell it bubbles out of freemasonry of the 1700s obsessing about a Jewish temple in Jerusalem. In the 1800s JN Darby who was a narcissistic became a cult leader and spread dispensationalism. Then to CI Scofield who was a con man, liar, cheat, and abandoned his family and pretended to be a doctorate in divinity, wrote the Scofield reference Bible which pushes Zionism.
I believe Evangelicals took in this doctrine as a way of drawing people into their churches after the 1948 political Israel was formed. Now they’re stuck with this junk theology and they have two choices: go back to the Bible and read Gen 12:3 + Galatians 3 or keep lying.

The spirit of Protestantism is to keep breaking off and inventing junk theology. So many claim to “follow the Bible” but none of them seem to get there. They dumped 1500 years of church tradition in the toilet (Luther literally sat on the toilet writing and making up theology).
Protestantism is fueled by narcissism. These clowns attack the Papacy then make themselves Pope, even executing their critiques like Calvin did! Most of their denominations are started by one person who is almost always a narcissist like Luther or King Henry VIII.
They downgrade beauty and the Eucharist, they rid themselves of virtue like monasticism or fasting, then they introduce self-serving decadence to draw people in like OSAS, predestination, showing off in “tongues”, health/wealth, etc.
The leaders serve themselves, make lots of money, and then try to control everyone to keep them from leaving.
