I think you would enjoy hearing the original version of Guitar Man, which was done by Jerry Reed. Elvis wanted to record it but he was never satisfied with how it sounded in the studio. They reached out to Jerry Reed who told them that the reason why it didn't sound right was because he (Jerry) wasn't playing on it. They asked Jerry to play on Elvis' version of it, and that was exactly what it needed to make it a hit.

The '68 special was important for the second part of Elvis' career. The tidal wave of the Beatles and other British Invasion bands had swept a number of previously popular American singers off the charts, and Elvis was in danger of being swept away too. With the comeback special, however, he re-established his place in popular culture, which he maintained until his death.

Definitely agree, although Walter Matthau was famous long before Grumpy Old Men. He was already well known when he got his first Academy Award in 1966 with 20 movies and 17 plays behind him. Of course King Creole was only his 6th movie and his performance certainly contributed to that success.

When he first sang Trouble he was a boy but when he sings it here he's a man. (They are very different versions by the way) just goes to show how creative and versatile he is. Great reaction ❤

Hi there. This is Barbara. I commented on Sephs channel about 2 yrs now. I am letting as many as I can know that he is a phony. An MJ fan asked him if Elvis was his favorite artist?, He replied that he didn't really care for him and that he didn't care to know everything about him. But he wanted to know everything about MJ. So I questioned him about it and he deleted my comment along with the MJ one. I guess so no one could see with one and what he had said. He also banned me that is why I am letting you know here. Others have suspected him of using EP fans to get more subs and now it seems it's true. I cried thru reading what he said, I couldn't believe it and it hurt so bad. I just wanted to warn you that he is a phony and that I hope people don't sub to his channel for our Elvis. Feel free to pass this on. It's not right that he is faking his Elvis reactions.

Been watching and subscribed. He has been my hero since I was five years old and that was 62 years ago. Saw him live in concert many times as a teenager. Greatest moments of my lifetime. I so loved the man even more so than the entertainer. That 5 yr old little girl was so blessed to have found that hero who not only changed her life but gave it such blessings of joy. Try watching How Great Thou Art, 1977 live in rapid city. It was weeks before his death but the performance was gut wrenching. I miss him everyday . Thank you both ❤️❤️

The clip started with the song "Trouble" but then warped into the classic late 60s hit, Jerry Reed's "Guitar Man". If you want another dose of "the getting down, deep and dirty, raunchy Elvis", you gotta listen to '68 Comeback Special version of "One Night" where he captivates a select audience surrounding a very small circular stage along with The Jordanaires. It takes me back to his early days.

Totally agree that that’s his best. Directed by the great Michael Curtiz, who directed CASABLANCA and WHITE CHRISTMAS (among many others - over a 170 movies - in every genre).

I much prefer his original version of One Night. Censorship sucks and it wasn't even that risqué. He used the word "sin" and everyone lost their minds. I guess they didn't have any to begin with. A lot of songs in the 30s, 40s and 50s were incredibly sanitized (including Tutti Fruitti, which is about what you think it's about) for white, conservative audience. It was pretty gross that you couldn't hear the artists' original creations in their raw form because someone wanted to tell you what you can and can't listen to.

Guitar man was originally written and recorded by Jerry Reed. Elvis loved the song and wanted to do his own version. The trouble was Reed was such a one in a million talented guitar player non of Elvis studio musicians could figure out how he made his guitar sound that way. They ended up tracking down Reed while he was fishing and had him record the guitar parts for Elvis, while still in his fishing clothes. It’s was one of Reed’s early breaks that led to him becoming the legend he is today.

Yes he sang this in King Creole. On your movie reactions you ought watch some Elvis movies. If you watch Viva Las Vegas it has Ann Margret in it. She's the beautiful red head that played in both the Grumpy Old Men movies. Her and Elvis were very close, they loved each other. She sang & danced too.

The thing that all of us think about when we think of Elvis's 68 comeback special, is Elvis's sit down jam session with just him, his original drummer an original lead guitarist, Scotty Moore and Bill Black. On just a little stage, and a small audience, sitting pretty much up close and personal with them. If you want to see the real Elvis if you want to see the REAL Elvis at his BEST, you have to check it out, one night with you, trying to get to you, Lawdy miss Clawdy, Baby what you want me to do, are the main songs, ANY of them are TRULY worth a listen!!

Even if you all don't react to it, I think everyone should hear Elvis "Are You Lonesome Tonight" - the laughing version. This is Elvis at his funniest!
It's a live version, and he starts cracking himself up and can't stop laughing! It's pretty hilarious.
    Anyways, you all are awesome!
    Keep crushing it!

From the '68 Comeback Special, brilliant . The whole show is worth watching, I love the versions of his older songs in this, especially Heartbreak Hotel and Jailhouse Rock. Only Elvis could look so cool in a full leather suit.

this is actually the 68 comeback special opener, trouble/guitar man. they had to ask Jerry Reed, who wrote guitar man, to come down and show them howe to play the song properly. he taught them a picking technique.

Is your daughter still an Elvis fan? I saw this comeback special on TV when it first aired in 1968 when I was 13. I was into the Beatles, Janis Joplin, the Rascals, etc. at that time. Elvis was considered passe then. But he proved everyone wrong that historic night. Elvis was electrifying and moved me. There will never be another Elvis. RIP.

A little trivia for you…”Guitar Man” was written by Jerry Reed. In fact, that song was remixed in 1981, after Elvis had passed away, and featured Jerry himself on guitar.
