A lot of problems in Japan with the 500 yen coin being largely counterfeited due to its value. Machines had been tricked accepting 500 Korean won coins (1/10 of yen value) as 500 yen. The coin has been redesigned to increase security.
I remember playing at the arcades with my cousin and brother. I ran out of quarters and had a few dimes and nickels. So I went to the change machine in hopes of putting in 2 dimes and a nickel to get a quarter (I was young). Of course the dime came out. I did the same with a nickel and it came out. Put it in again while holding the coin return and out it came yet again. But when I out it in once more it spat out about $5 in quarters. I thought I broke the change machine. 5 cents = $5.
