I have no idea how Bachmann prices are just so wack! The disk versions of the class 24's thatve been just released are like 40 pounds cheaper comparing the dc versions of this one. The sound fitted ones are closer to each other though.
For those of us modelling the 60s and 70s can we please have a proper headcode box with 4 defined characters behind a frame and not just a single sheet behind the glass? Would make a big difference to the realism of the front end.
Wow I'm impressed with the detail and research you've put into the 47s. Stuff I didn't know about like the speedo cables but I had noticed that colour to the windscreens in photos of early examples, never thought any model manufacturers would ever replicate that. Well done Bachmann for your hard work and keeping it quiet until the last minute.
Very well done Bachmann - a splendid application of very detailed research reflected in these models. One thing I would like to have seen is the fitting of a "stay alive" fitted into the deluxe versions.
Superb announcement! I have a few questions not answered by the announcement: - Will you do 47601/901? - Is provision EM/P4 wheelsets being considered? - What are the specs of the speakers? Will an EM2 speaker fit?
Wow! A 1 million pound investment is quite a figure! A few thoughts here. 1.Yes this looks absolutely stunning. 2. Obviously Bachmann need to recoup and make a profit out of this development. The other issue is are they pricing some modellers out of the hobby now? There again it’s like anything if you want quality you have to pay for it. Where do you draw the line though? I personally would have loved to see a smoke generator included to make the model more desirable. Will I purchase one? Not sure as of yet?
In answer to you asking if high prices are phasing people out of the hobby, yes, kind of. I do not mind paying high prices for quality, however most bachmann mechanisms and extremely poor compared to other manafactures such as hattons and hornby, but prices do tend to be higher and so i do not buy bachmann usually
Good to know that the old routine of doing multiple modifications to the class 47 to accurately represent the sub classes are no longer required. Yes, I'm sure there will still be a few parts that can still be improved upon (I've spotted a couple of bits that the know it all RMweb types will certainly focus on) but for the average modeler they appear to be as accurate as anyone would need. No doubt my old mate Dave will be adding a few of these to his existing fleet for his Tinsley TMD layout.
Hello Bachmann. Well I have to say congratulations on bringing the quality that has been missing from our models to fruition. I do think it unfair however that DC users can not benefit from the glazing, surely a very cheap application and no need to exclude people who just don't want DCC? Out of all the amazing things you have done the stand out fact is that for most people the prices are unattainable.
RRP will be interesting, looks superb though and certainly an impressive model. Cannot help thinking the windscreen finish of the deluxe offering should be standard
Seems a step forward in fine detail and regarding the mechanism plus finally proper wheel bearings - wow. Hope the price will not jump trough the roof and it will be an affordable loco. Then my confidence in Bachmann products will be restored. See what reviews we'll get on this beautiful tooled machine and if the quality and value are on the same level . Anyway this video is most pleasant to watch and very well produced... so the expectations are high !!
@@tonyfearn2452 In this video they say they have invested over a million pounds into research and development of this model. If you are talking about that sort of money then 200 odd is not too much to pay. However I agree it is beyond the pocket of the average enthusiast and is in the realm of the well-to-do collector who it is intended for!
@@lucitonstjames3925 A serious modeller is to my mind someone who shows his work on the exhibition circuit. Such people get paid for exhibiting their layouts at shows which are used to promote the latest Bachmann offerings. These 'serious modellers' are in a strong financial position and that's how they are doing it. I agree with the contention that these expensive models are distressing to modellers on a small budget.
Pre-ordered the BR Green one from Rails this morning, planning to add a few more BR Green diesels to the list and model an early diesel transition depot.
How well do these run using analogue control? I bought a sound fitted Bachmann Class 40 recently to use on my analogue layout and although you get the engine sound, the loco moves at a snail’s pace, never speeds up and is slower than the prototype! I thought it might be a fault so I took it down to my local model shop but to no avail. The owner told me someone else had had the same problem with his Class 47 model. Oddly enough, my Dapol Class 29 with sound works OK on analogue.
Well congratulations to all at Bachmann on this wonderful class 47. Great to have so much choice in a well engineered model but which one to purchase. Naturally Sound Delux. These will look stunning painted. 🚂🚃🚃🚃
Everything happens for a reason, even if not immediately apparent. Now I know why Accurascale’s Class 37s and MkV TPE sets have been delayed by so much: more budget headroom sooner for what looks to be an outstanding model.
Good to see Dave Parsons involved with this - the work he did on the 158 to get it right was sublime (no disrespect to anyone else). This certainly does (at last) look like a 47 and the detail is impressive. My only gripe is the fixed centre axle which causes so many issues. Looking forward to seeing these first hand. Great work 👍
An A1A-A1A arrangement is far, far better for most requirements - rigid axles mean all wheel drive is never all wheel drive but more likely three wheels on each bogie!
@@mikebuick2332 it's A1A-A1A, this is the case under both the UIC Classification and AAR wheel arrangements. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/UIC_classification_of_locomotive_axle_arrangements en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AAR_wheel_arrangement

Surely the manager who totally under estimated the demand should be fired. Shame because l do like them if only l could buy one.
Still has a major fault 😕 At the end of the video you say "I don't think we could have put more into it" You have not addressed the issue of the Snowploughs which should be fitted to the bufferbeam/chassis and not the bogies with the Snowploughs fitted to the bogies they catch on the pipes which hang down from the bufferbeam as the loco rounds bends on our layouts it also looks wrong as on the real thing the Snowploughs don't move You have done a great job with this new brush but it could have been better much better if you had addressed the Snowplough problem by fitting them to bufferbeam/chassis instead of the bogies this is still a major fault in all ready to run locos today Snowploughs are not fitted to bogies on the real locos. Instead of adding pipes underneath the chassis which no one will ever see once the loco is put on the track you should have invested time in the Snowplough issue. It looks awful when model locos run across point work and the Snowploughs are moving from left to right right to left which shouldn't be the case and catching on pipes which hang down vertically and don't move at all. Bachmann please take note.
Shan't be buying one. Got to draw the line somwhere and I won't be getting rid of the 5 I already have! Why not produce some thing new, AND at an affordable price?
