I actually did that looking at a 2002 Tacoma. I asked the seller and they had no problem with it. Glad I did because decided not to buy it since the frame was rotted out.
I have a 2000 SR5 with the V8 and 198k miles, absolutely unbelievable truck! It's been in my family since new and NEVER left us stranded or disappointed.
I have a 2006 Tundra DC with 180k miles. I bought it used with only 52k miles on it back in 2010 and that was the first thing I noticed when test driving it. It rode so smooth like a Cadillac and still does.
I inherited a 2004 Tundra from my father. He loved his truck very much, and even though it may be registered to my name, it'll always be "Dad's truck," and I plan on keeping and taking good care of it as best I can.
I have a 2006 crew cab with the 4.7L V8 with 227,000 miles in it and it still runs strong. I purchased it 6 yrs ago now with 102,000 miles on it. Only things I’ve had to replace since purchasing it was the alternator, driveshaft carrier bearing, and tailgate handle. I would definitely recommend this truck to anyone looking for an older truck that will stand up over time.
My 05 tundra is a little over 160k, and doing great. I bought it used in 2014 and it's been our family truck. We have moved, help people move and hauled trailers and a boat with no problem.
My grandma has a 2000 tundra V8 SR5 and it has no damage and has 132k on it and would sell it to me for 4,500 dollars. Is it worth it for a 17 year old with on year of high school left?
Good video, 2000 Tundra TRD Ltd 4 x 4 with tow package since new and had many of the same (not so bad) issues - tailgate handle broke off, ball joint (replaced by dealer at 42K miles), sway bar ties, all of the oxygen sensors multiple times (first 4 replaced by dealer under warranty, learned how to do it myself after paying $270 apiece for the next few), replaced the faded headlights. Knock wood not the rusty frame or transmission issues. (Always tow with OD off.). Overall, still burns no oil and has never failed to start or let me down. She's a keeper.
I just purchassed an '03 2UEZ V8 w/159K miles and asap I'll RnR the timing belt and H2O pump as I haven't knowledge of when it was last performed. My mechanic said to me it had to have been done once already as the original would not have gone 159K miles without being replaced. What say you? Also my rack and pinion shows oil leaked(s) on its right end, have you experienced and rack failures? This Tundra has been in the southwest, New Mexico/Arizona its entire life and shows no rust issues. But the clear coat on the sides of the body is fine but elsewhere it baked off. Have you noticed problems with the brakes as this was noted in the review that the Tundra eats up brakes? I suppose towing usage is part and parcel of what may be a cause of this though. One more thing and then I'll relent. Lower ball joints, any issues?
You are absolutely correct about the repairs. I have an 06 and I've replace the rack and pinion, ball joints, sensors, alignment, shocks, tail gate handle and more... But with over 180,000 miles she's still going! I love my Tundra!

I have a 2005 tundra. Bought it in 2015 from the original owner with 37k on it. Today it has 93k on it and runs great. I love it. Best truck I’ve ever owned.
@@MrPhillDawson I will tell you the same thing I told my mechanic when he asked about buying it...”it isn’t worth what it would take for me to sell it.”
I have owned 5, 1 access cab and 4 double cabs, they are hands down my favorite truck I have ever owned, I have owned all of the Big 3 in various configurations, including built diesels and a Raptor (V-8) and though I love my Raptor it is only because I needed the extra interior room for a growing family and 2 large dogs. The FGT fits a sweet spot in truck size bigger than the Tacoma and smaller than a traditional fullsize. The biggest downside, turning radius and lower ball joints, you get used to the turning radius and as long as you are proactive in maintenance (use only OEM LBJ's) I miss my Tundras a lot!!!

Nice used T-100's were impossible to find. So I bit the bullet and bought a new 06 Tundra, still have it with 268k miles, no problems. It's been the best vehicle I've ever owned.
I just got one and it now has over 280,000 miles. It runs great, especially for the mileage... But I really don't get the hype. If we're just talking about the engine and trans, sure, they're great... But I don't understand the steering rack, the knuckles/lower ball joints, the antenna is in the way with cleaning the windshield, the buttons on the dash and switches on the column constantly get bumped, etc. The seats are very uncomfortable also (I'm 6'5 and about 300lbs). I don't hate this truck, I just don't at all understand the hype. And the people who really love them (desert prerunner guys) modify them so heavily, there's hardly any original parts of the truck left on them... So what are they hyping??? If you just like the engine and trans for longevity reasons, I totally understand
Here's what you need to look for with these trucks. I drove a 2005 dbl cab 4.7 for over 6 years loved the truck. The biggest issue I had was the brakes. Keep in mind I had larger wheels and tires on mine which doesn't help but it's a known fact these trucks eat pads and rotors. Keep an eye on them and be sure to have the drums serviced and do not purchase PowerStop brakes for these trucks, that company makes low quality parts and I highly recommend going oem or opting to run larger rotors for these trucks if you can. I experienced three issues with the truck while I owned it, column shift cable went slack and had lots of play in it (fixed), Trans mount broke and made a popping sound (fixed) and a u-joint cracked and was making a howling sound (fixed) all under warranty. Nothing ever required service with the engine/trans or rear end. Tailgate handle did break and was replaced (takes 5 minutes to swap). Also the gas cap rotted from the Florida heat when the truck was about 12 years old and this will throw a check engine so keep that in mind, AA has caps for about $10-15 and fixed. A/C blew ice cold at 14 years old. Also keep an eye on the front end with ball joints and bushings, if they look worn or show signs when driving have them replaced with oem Toyota components. If you're in the market for leveling one of these trucks I'd recommend bilstein 5100 shocks and level it that way rather than a strut spacer, and run the 5100s in the rear. Never had an issue with an 02 sensor or anything with the steering even with 33s on mine it drove straight and as smooth as it did stock. Highly recommend these 1st gens if you can find one i'd definitely consider it over a similar year domestic.
I have a 02 Toyota Tundra sr5 it’s have about 133500 miles still runs good I have to rebuild the transmission about 7 years ago I change the alternator and now I’m planning to work on the front suspension put new parts
i have a 2003 tundra 4×4 and great luck with the if they made it still i would buy it again for such i had 175000 + on mine and no troubles with Anything
Am I the only person that likes the "Stepside ". That extra bed space was excellent. Plus those rear lights made it pretty to me. I had a two wheel drive version that was excellent. I don't live in an Snowy state nor do much off roading. My issue was the O2 sensors and the thing was too damn fast. I have had three tickets my entire life. My first one in 1981 and two with the Tundra some 30 years later. Point being is it's speed will creep up on you if your not careful. Why it is called the ugliest truck is off the mark to me. Looking for one in 4X4 now.
I purchase a 2003 Toyota Tundra Limited 4.7 (side step truck bed) in Sept. 2003, I now have about 72,000 miles on it, the V8 engine is the "best' engine I have ever had (man it powerful & fast)! No problems changed fan belt, spark plugs, everytime I go to the Toyota or used car lots they want to buy my truck! I like that it's not like the newer models (Real Big) midsize and fast.
Thank you so much for making these videos. They truly should have more views for the amount of detail and how well you tell information about the tundra. Can’t wait to buy one myself in the upcoming months!
Not one of those problems have been found on my 02. 30 minutes and a dirty back was well worth it before I snatched that 19 year old beast off the lot. I've never been a thief but, the day I put my money on my Tundra was the day I stole.
just got a pretty much rust-free 2000 sr5 with 202,700miles on it. im stoked. it's got dents and dings, but has new timing belt and O2 sensors as of 1k miles ago.
Smile answer to question in title is yes. Great truck. I have a 2005 4wd Double cab with 190,000 miles and it has had zero issues and is still going strong. Expect at least another 100k out of it.
leaf springs are another apparently notorious issue with these trucks. Just had to swap both of mine out because a spring on the rear left snapped toward the rear. easy job though!
Thanks for the great info about the Toyota Tundra. My mom used to own a 2000 Toyota Tundra limited 4X4 and it had some of these problems. Especially the fuel door fell off.
I'm surprised that the EVAP system didn't get listed as a common problem on these trucks. I've had an 03 v-8 since it was new and been very reliable except the gas cap needs replacing sometimes and throws a code.
I have a 2004 double cab 4 by 4 that I purchased with approximately 180k miles on it. I appreciate the truck approximately 6 years ago, the truck now has 205k. I do love my truck, I wish that Toyota did not change it so dramatically for generation 2. The ride is also very smooth.
the T100 did have a pretty good size truck bed even if it had the 3400 V6, i was almost gonna get one this past summer but decided not too since it had to be towed with damaged brake lines that made it not driveable. 140k was on it and it was a stick too, kinda wish i jumped on it because the truck i ended up getting has only needed repair after repair. An 03' F150 Supercrew Lariat. Dang it, and its just been a money pit. :(
Michael Barnett I like mine. It’s a 2000 with 233k miles as of today. I had some issues when I bought it but really it was mostly because the previous owner didn’t take care of it the way they should’ve for its age. If you get a first gen check out the first gen tundra Facebook page ! Lots of real owners helping each other with mods and repairs
I currently own a 2001 Tundra Limited and it's currently got 130k miles never had any problems with it. It's been one good daily driver for everyday use.
I have owned 2 Tundras A 2001 and a 2006 V6 Perfectly running trucks Still have the 2006. Will give it to my son when I pass away.. Hands down, best vehicles I have owned since I had my license in 1970
Only discrepancy is that the 4.0 vvt V6 was the V6 offered starting 2005. I have it in my 2006. I did have to swap a rear end in it, but other than that, it's been doing great. Mine is about to reach 150k miles, and it's my daily driver.
I have a 2006 Tundra Limited 4×4 the frame is rusted an it will cost over $4,000.00 to fix. And it has a timing belt in the 4.7 engine an cost over $1,000.00 to fix . When all u seniors are on a Limited income it's almost impossible to fix.
Had an 04 access cab. Took it off a 60ft cliff. Then an 08 crewmax and now a 17 doubble cab(access cab) If the 1st gejs werent over 400k miles or asking for 400k$ for low mileage id get another on. Saved my life. Still get recall notices for the takata airbags
got a 03 regular cab 5 speed 3.4 v6 for 8500 in 2011 best truck i drive next to my 89 pickup with 22r im a fatass so i needed a bigger truck... awesome!!! thxx
Ha! I forgot about the gas cover hinges rusting out...been there done that too. With a vehicle that old I wouldn’t be too upset if Toyota would recognize these problems and have replacement parts to buy, but many of these parts aren’t availed or are way too expensive
I have a 2001 ltd tundra that didn't come with leather or wood but did come with runners and mudflaps. the only problem I've had with this truck was I had to replace the harmonic balancer when it was still new. other than that I have replaced two o2 sensors that were over 20 years old, restored the headlights with a kit and some of the rubber trim needs replacing. I did upgrade the sound system. I only have about 95,00 miles on it. oh and the drivers side seatbelt won't retract (last quote I got was over $400). otherwise it's been a great truck. put some custom rims on it and raised letter tires. still get lots of complements on it.

I inherited my dad's 2001 Toyota Tundra SR5 4WD with 22,000 miles and is in a mint condition.
I’ll buy it!
Sell it for a ton of money
I have a 02 Toyota Tundra sr5 it’s have about 133500 miles still runs good I have to rebuild the transmission about 7 years ago I change the alternator and now I’m planning to work on the front suspension put new parts
Mine has 526k still runs like new.
They're solid trucks, but I wouldn't use one as a daily. Too much money on gas.
Smiles per gallon, not miles per.
Isnt it 18/21 mpg
I have two! 2002 Access Cab and 2005 Double cab , they both have OK gas mileage. But that is not why my wife and I drive them!
i have a 2003 tundra 4×4 and great luck with the if they made it still i would buy it again for such i had 175000 + on mine and no troubles with Anything
2000 tundra and a 2000 Ford f150 look a lot like I own 2 tundras 2000 models 4wd and 2wd best truck I ever owned
My 2000 v8 is nearing 300k. Funny though because he described every issue I have with my truck 🤣 replacing my exhaust this weekend
Am I the only person that likes the "Stepside ". That extra bed space was excellent. Plus those rear lights made it pretty to me. I had a
two wheel drive version that was excellent.
I like the stepside too!
Liked it too, but got new 2006 SR5., because of deal. Still think it looks good to this day. 215,000 miles
My 04 Tundra Double Cab has 240000 miles ,going strong. Uses no oil.
I bought a 2006 DC tundra 2 months ago. I've put in a new battery, new front strut, new tires and aftermarket rims. Will see how she turns.
Him: explaining the tundra details.
Me: I know I have one, but tell me more 😲
I own a 2004 With only 111K and that truck will never die. But my dad owned a 2005 With 275K and was amazing
Have 225,000. Runs like new and super reliable.
I'm at 279,500 miles. Will never get rid of my 2000 Toyota Tundra! Still works like a beast!
The first gen is my favorite, I just think Toyota completely screwed up the exterior with the 2nd gen.
Am i the only one that likes the bench seat interior configuration
Not one of those problems have been found on my 02. 30 minutes and a dirty back was well worth it before I snatched that 19 year old beast off the lot. I've never been a thief but, the day I put my money on my Tundra was the day I stole.
just got a pretty much rust-free 2000 sr5 with 202,700miles on it. im stoked. it's got dents and dings, but has new timing belt and O2 sensors as of 1k miles ago.
The T100 was geared low. Hard to drive on the highway.
Smile answer to question in title is yes. Great truck. I have a 2005 4wd Double cab with 190,000 miles and it has had zero issues and is still going strong. Expect at least another 100k out of it.
Way more!👍🏻
The 4.7 engine has been known to reach 1 million miles
leaf springs are another apparently notorious issue with these trucks.
Great truck even today
I love this version of the Tundra.
Me too. And I like the step side ⬆️
Have ‘02 SR5 with 278,800.
Bought at 78k miles. Complete paperwork came with, including factory window sticker. Original price?
$17,880.
Got a 2002 it has 268,000 .It will never be for sale.
2002 had a timing belt replaced, replaced window motor, it was totaled, rebuilt, 80,000 + miles runs fine. Its a keeper.
Well I hope it serves you well👍🏻
I have a crew cab 2005 with 175k miles on it. It's in fantastic shape and I plan on keeping it for years.
So you don't care about your gas mileage? Or you really do use the v8 power alot for hauling &towing?
@@mikelandryjr7310 It is a spare vehicle not a daily driver so gas mileage isnt a concern.
No, it’s not good.
It’s GREAT!
the T100 did have a pretty good size truck bed even if it had the 3400 V6, i was almost gonna get one this past summer but decided not too since it had to be towed with damaged brake lines that made it not driveable. 140k was on it and it was a stick too, kinda wish i jumped on it because the truck i ended up getting has only needed repair after repair. An 03' F150 Supercrew Lariat. Dang it, and its just been a money pit. :(
Going to look at a 1st gen very soon, thanks for the video! I know a few things to check out now.
Good luck!
Michael Barnett mine 06 tundra has 80k still new Love it
Still have a 2004 tundra running quite well, engine has no issues and is around 250,000 miles
Oh yeah, the rack and pinion blew out
Of course it’s good you just have to pay attention to the frame because if I believe my memory Scotty says this generation had frame rot issues
I have a 02 tundra with 202k miles. Just barely broken in!
Just got a 2006 Tundra with 69k miles on it... love it
Me too!
Nice
Thank you just bought a 2000 today
I currently own a 2001 Tundra Limited and it's currently got 130k miles never had any problems with it. It's been one good daily driver for everyday use.
Thanks for the pointers!
Great video. Thanks for the info! Love my 1st gen!
Ha you guys never got Toyota diesels !!
I have owned 2 Tundras
A 2001 and a 2006 V6
Perfectly running trucks
Still have the 2006.
My 2006 also has this engine and it's at 221,000 and still going strong!
New frame on 2019 on my 2000 Tundra. Lol
just got gifted my dads 2001 sr5 with 180k, such a good truck, perfect size, comfy, good looking, reliable
I have black 2000 sr5
Zero frame rust..
got a 03 regular cab 5 speed 3.4 v6 for 8500 in 2011 best truck i drive next to my 89 pickup with 22r im a fatass so i needed a bigger truck... awesome!!! thxx
Best truck only problems is the interior parts a cheap and plasticky but other than that regular maintenance and that truck will last forever
What a great video. Thank you
