    My neighbor had a tundra that he never used and was sitting in his garage for the past 5 years and when I confronted him about it, he said he was looking to sell. I asked how much he was looking to get for it and mentioned my interest. He looked me up and down for about 20 seconds and back at his car and told me I could take it off his hands for free if I drove it and put some care into it. It’s a limited v8 with full leather interior and 135,000 miles on it. I am completely dumbfounded by it all and stumbled on your video trying to find information on the truck. Thanks for the great video!

      Got a 2001 with 236,000 miles on it. Runs like a top. Just make sure to replace the timing belt at the scheduled intervals, and get the other stuff done as needed. Be warned, also, that there was a Toyota corporate recall in 2012 or so concerning improperly rust-proofed sub-frame components. A sub-contractor did not electroplate the sub-frame and some of these vehicles have accelerated rust damage to the body and frame, but that' s a body problem, not an engine problem. The dealers were supposed to inform customers of the recall, in which Toyota spent nearly a billion dollars to fix, but not everyone got the word in time.

    I just bought a 2004 Tundra Limited at auction for $6,700 (plus auction house fees, pushing it to about $7,300). I've got just over 149,000 miles. Felt the same as you did-- blessed! I'd had my eye on it at auction for a couple of weeks and sat down right before it went to auction and prayed that if it was meant to be, it'd stay in my price range. I didn't want to spend more than $6,800. The Lord delivered! Cheers, friend.

      I was cruising autotrader back in October of last year and seen this one so I called immediately.
      The guy said that an old fellow had it garage kept in Indiana and he bought it new in 2001. He died in 2018 so his daughter registered it in her name after, making her the second owner but she didn't put a single mile on it. It had around 22k on it at this time.
      She end up selling it to the dealer I bought it from. Well he didn't drive it and wanted to sell it so he listed it with about 24,700ish on it. It only has 26,600 on it now. I have a 2001 Tundra that I bought used in 2003. The only reason I found this video is because I had my first mechanical issue with the truck and I was searching RUclips for the year/make. The problem I had was a leaking top tank on the radiator, which occurred after having the coolant flushed. I have always kept up with the maintenance, but I have certainly not babied my truck and have taken it off-road on some very gnarly trails and it has never let me down. I'll drive it until it dies.

    I also have the 2000 Tundra. Same as this but in white. Bought it with a Tacoma recall check back in 2009 with only 65k miles on it. Fast forward to 2020 and the truck still runs stong at 186k miles. Just passed inspection but needed the right side exhaust manifold installed for $900. It made a huge diffference and the truck sounds like it did 11 years ago. Have also replaced the radiator, gas tank, rack and pinion more recently. Usual brakes and exhaust work over the years. Frame was recalled about 10 years ago. Some minor rust but still solid. I may get it painted next year as the truck will not die and deserves to look good again. BEST truck Evah!!

    That's an excellent buy! Nicely done. A year and a half ago I got my 2001 Tundra V8 TRD with 99k miles for about $5k. Smartest purchase I've ever made. Only thing you need to look out for is the timing belt maintenance interval. Since it is an interference motor, if the timing belt snaps it will cause a catastrophic failure as a result of the pistons slamming into the intake and exhaust valves, destroying all of these parts. The service interval is once every 60k miles, but age can also effect the condition of the timing belt, so it should be inspected for cracks and replaced if not in good condition.
    One other thing to check is the brand of oil filter it has installed. When I went for a short test drive of the truck in the cool fall weather everything was fine, but after owning it for a while I noticed that during hot weather, with the motor at operating temperature, if I spent any time idling say waiting for a red light or sitting in a drive-thru, the motor would begin to produce a valve tick, until I would stop the tick by giving it a blip of throttle to raise the oil pressure. My mechanic told me it was totally normal and said that it's called "the Toyota tick"... I called bullshit. All of the oil pressure drama went away after the next oil change when I removed the garbage Fram oil filter and replaced it with a genuine Toyota brand filter.

    I've had the 2000 model since new. I have about 140k miles on it now. Been a great truck. Just had to replace the drivers window motor. Replaced the timing belt a few months ago for time change. About to change both lower ball joints because they are known to fail which is very dangerous. When towing heavy, always take the overdrive off unless on very level highway, these are known to have the transmission planetary gear failure if you don't.

    Hey AlphaShark! I think it's awesome that you use your channel to witness for Christ. I am a christian also, and I am the original owner of a 2002 Tundra V8 SR5. I am just a few thousand shy of 200k. I had the lower ball joints replaced and the right exhaust manifold replaced....all under warranty and that-is-it! I have not even replaced the original starter yet! I have had no mechanical failures. I will say that I do stay on top of the maintenance and even at the end of my oil change cycle the oil still looks good(so I am hoping that is another good sign). The truck has been parked outdoors in sunny San Diego for 20 years and there are no tears in the upholstery and not one crack on the dash or on any of the plastic. My steering wheel still looks brand new! I am making an appointment next week at the dealer to have my second timing belt replaced (every 100k). I am now starting replace things like front end components and some other items just due to the age of the vehicle, but I am happy to do it! Can I ask you to please pray for our daughter....she is going thru a divorce. Her husband has been treating her very unjustly. Our daughters' name is Gina. You remind me of my son. Stay sweet. Thank you, brother.

    • @andrespatino2761
      @andrespatino2761 3 года назад

      Get that wheel bearing fixed soon. Mine failed completely and had to get it towed home. Tire/wheel was under the truck(4runner). Complete diaster. Engine and transmission is great though. 1998 4runner.

      @luislongoria6621 Год назад

      @@andrespatino2761Those are the ball joints not the bearings. Some shops will try to get you to buy the whole upper and lower control arms rather than grind off the rivets. Bad bearings will make a grinding sound like a playing card in the spokes of a bicycle and it's only 3 bolts 😮

    I have a 2000 Tundra SR5 V8 2wheel drive that I bought new. It is still running great with 265,000 miles. By the way, my SR5 has the sliding back window, the fog lights, cruise control, and alloy wheels. The garage door opener compartment can be interchanged with a sunglasses holder. They both came with the vehicle. And mine has the fender flairs too. I think leather interior and maybe some nicer interior trim make it a Limited. Also, there is storage under the rear seat cushions.

    My Tundra is a 2006 SR5 double cab with close to 87k on it. It was my fathers truck, he bought it new (traded in his 4Runner) and absolutely loved it. He only got to enjoy it for about 5 years, as he passed away in 2011 due to lymphoma. I got to start driving it in 2021 after having my license for 6 months, and it has been perfect. Once I graduate in June it will be mine, and it has always been my dream to have it. I will always feel a strong connection to the Toyota Tundra, and it has been an amazing work truck for shoveling rock while redoing our backyard, and has been great for camping trips with light/mid off-roading. I can’t wait for another 200k miles with it (at least, with proper maintenance), and if the engine ever goes on me, I hope I can engine swap it with another 2uz. Long story short, Tundra is an amazing truck, close to my heart, pick one up while they are still under the radar.

    We bought the exact same truck for my sons first car about a year ago. We paid 4000, but the body on ours does not look as nice as yours. So far, for preventive maintenance, we had a new timing belt, water pump, and thermostat put on. Then the steering rack started leaking. Found out the body of the rack was rusted through. New rack, tie rods, tires and alignment. Now just a couple days ago, the wipers quit working. There is a ball and socket bushing on the wiper mechanism that cannot be bought. Found out you have to buy the whole wiper rod assembly. We are still happy to own this truck and we have the same thoughts about it as you do. Ours is a limited too, but it has power leather seats.
