Man thank you for being so open and honest, and truly wanting to give back to others! Love is hard to come by in this industry, so yes thank you! Keep doing what you're doing and blessings won't cease, great films bro!
I fall in love with every single wedding that you do! and yes I cry on every single one!! Beautiful storytelling and I love how willing you are to share advice and tips for those who have the same passion.
I’ve learned so much in the wedding photo/film game and I’m STILL learning. Running a business isn’t easy. But one of the mistakes I’ve made (and am still learning from) is making contracts. I’m not familiar with all of the ins & outs with making contracts... or how to protect myself as a business. You have to be really clear & concise about the details of your agreement with your clients. It’s still something I struggle with. If you could make a video on contracts/legal stuff that would be AMAZING. This video was super helpful!!!
There is such a thing as too much footage. My first wedding, I shot roughly 3 hours worth of getting ready moments. It was a lot of footage to review, and I only ended up using a few clips in the final video. It wasn't worth getting up that early, and certainly not filling up that memory card with all that footage. If you've got the time, plan your shots carefully, and execute them with short bursts, rather than long takes. It helps to have a schedule or shot list in mind, so you're not spending too much time in one area getting all the shots you don't need.
First off thank you again so much for another insightful video! I legit think I have encountered all of these mistakes in the last month lol But I am learning and growing and trying not to make the same mistake twice. Really struggling on how to approach pricing for my videography as I am just a beginner but I have been attracting a lot of potential leads. Any suggestions? Thanks again guys!
What made you guys choose ShootQ? We are currently on a Tave trial and absolutely loving it.. Although the first time we trialled it, we couldn't get our heads around it! Now we have finally got to grips with it, it's awesome! But before I sign up fully, I am curious to know what made you decide to go with ShootQ.
Tave is awesome! It actually came out after shootq did and we were already so invested in the shootq ecosystem that it was pretty impossible for us to switch. Shootq also had a DEEP learning curve. I think all the crms do. For a while Tave in my opinion was far superior to shootq. Although Shootq is about to release a MASSIVE update to their software next month that looks incredible. And from the things they have shown thus far on their facebook page it looks like it could be the most powerful wedding management software ever created. If I were you i'd wait and see what shootq launches in May :)
Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I've already started to invest my time in Tave, although I've not actually paid anything yet. With the optional upgrade options, it's already paid off as our first client booked a load of upgrades which is amazing! Will have a quick nosey at ShootQ and see what's going on but atm I am super happy with Tave, it really is making life so much easier. Really wish I had used it from the start of our business!
Thanks for one more helpful video. I just love your channel. I want to become a viodeomaker and i see your videos have a intense and extremely beautiful color. Do you use any software to improve our video colors, like an preset for premiere or another software? Thank you.
Great question Gina! My biggest recommendation would be to start small. Give the couple only a 3-5 minute wedding film that is mostly music. This will allow you to nail it with one shooter.
Is there any advice you could give to someone that has been shooting videos for over 5 years when it comes to spreading the news for business? I plan to start shooting weddings starting this up coming spring and would like advertise on how to advertise and not come off as a commercial.
Great question! One of the best ways we've found to advertise is to start sharing your heart on social media. Share why you create wedding films in the first place. This is the best kind of advertising because its free and it will really set you apart from others :) Then on top of that a free wedding giveaway is never a bad idea ;) If you'd like to chat more about advertising and marketing we have 1hr Skype mentorship sessions. If you'd be interested send us an email over at: info@forestryfilms.com
This is awesome, thanks so much! My biggest mistake was not checking the space on my memory card and leading up to the "father sees daughter in dress for first time" moment came and went and my card was full!!! I ran out to get my other one, but then we had to "re-do" the moment, and it just wasn't the same!!!!! Luckily I had some other moments captured... but.. it was a big mistake. :P
Ah man that is THE WORST. Thanks so much for sharing! We always swap our cards before big moments so that that doesnt happen haha but I feel your pain!
Hey I was wondering if I could have some advice, I’ve recently filmed a wedding and the edit was a total of 8 mins. I was really impressed with the outcome as I thought it was shot really well. When I handed it to the client she was really angry because she wanted the video to last an hour. Now I showed her examples of wedding videos that were between 5-10 mins and she said she liked the style. So that’s what I did. I don’t really know what to do now as she’s refusing to pay. I’m only charging £100
My customer has to pay me 100% two weeks before the event day. And sign a contract that he or she accept my style. I try to be sure 100% that they understand that it will be a short video.Cinematic. not documentary. I don't begin filming without sign the contract.
This is a super weird question but I'm wondering if anyone here in the comments has some bad wedding footage we could use in an ad? We're trying to create an ad that has bad wedding footage in it
@@gjhghjk yeah, like 20 minutes tops. 5 minutes of the venue, decoration, preparation, dressing, makeup, etc building up to the big reveal all of this with music and some speeches in the background to save more time. 5 minutes of ceremony, more speeches, kisses, hugs, tears, and other reactions. 5 minutes of dancing, lifting the groom and the bride, etc 5 minutes or less for an ending, like a final speech with the bouquet toss, cutting the cake, and some especial thing about that wedding in particular. No one wants to see a really slow one hour video. They want something shareable and entertaining.

+Paytra LaShay that means so much to us!! So glad you are also loving our education videos :)
Such useful tips! Thank you, my biggest mistake thus far has been definitely offering way too much in packages. Even now, I am still trimming down.
Love your guys channel! Really posting some great stuff, thanks for the help! Keep the educational videos coming!
Thanks so much! We have a lot more educational content coming soon :)

Contracts are huge for sure! I will def try to make a video about that!
Just know I'm here watching these and loving the information they are providing me with as a beginning wedding film maker! =)
Thanks so much! So glad you loved it!

Totally agree! Too much footage is not fun at ALL to look through.
This x100000000
Great advice it also saves a lot of battery

Ah man pricing is so difficult. I'd suggest starting at $1995 then raising your pricing $250 every quarter and seeing how that goes :)

question! any advice for someone experienced in videography but not in weddings and has to shoot one solo?

Let's see,
No contracts, doing payments in cash or checks(may lose cash/bounced checks), & not backing up your raw footage or project.
Oh man I feel your pain! So important to get a handle on these things at the start!
so what's the best way to dea with payments?
This is a super weird question but I'm wondering if anyone here in the comments has some bad wedding footage we could use in an ad? We're trying to create an ad that has bad wedding footage in it
Hello, How long should a wedding video be (Full video)
We typically deliver a 4-6 minute film or a 9-12 minute film :)
I don't understand, After full day shooting you only deliver 9-12 film?
@@AhinkanTV I have same question??? :)
