  • Douglas London is a retired senior CIA operations officer and the author of the new book The Recruiter: Spying and the Lost Art of American Intelligence.
Doug served as a U.S. Marine before joining the Central Intelligence Agency in 1984 where he worked for 34 years - 17 years on either side of 9/11. His job was the clandestine collection of HUMINT - intelligence that comes from people who provide secrets valuable to the United States. By virtue of recruiting spies for an equal number of years on either side of 11 September 2001, Doug offers a unique perspective on the Agency pre and post that seminal date in history.
He served in the Middle East, South and Central Asia, and Africa including three assignments as a chief of station, the president’s senior advisor at post, and chief of base in a conflict zone. Assignments at CIA Headquarters included executive positions at the Agency’s Counterterrorism Center, Information Operations Center, and Near East and South Asia Division. He is the recipient of the CIA’s Career Intelligence Medal.
Today, Doug is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Georgetown University’s Center for Security Studies, and is a non-resident fellow at the Middle East Institute.
On this episode of Danger Close, Doug discusses the state of modern intelligence, failures of the intelligence community, a lack of accountability prevalent in the post-9/11 CIA, and a lot more.

You’ve had some really great guests, but this was the most fascinating and intriguing podcast yet. Damn, I thought the Steven Pressfield/Clint Smith episode was amazing, but this one raised the bar to a new level.

Incredible. An eye opener for the normies that listen, absorb and consider. “Just a spy.” ‘Just’. Just. What’s the complete opposite of ‘just’? I’m not sure there is a definitive word in this case.
Imagine what details we did not learn from this interview. In his own words, never trust. Do we trust “looking into the soul’? I really think so for the most part. Then again- he’s just a spy.
Thank you, Sir. Thank you, Jack Carr.

The accountability issue runs rampant through out the entire US federal government.
At every level, in every agency/ department.
Burocracy has one key element of universality, "cover your ass" to keep your job, Your funding, your agency/department in operation.
    Failed or not.
Lessons learned, mistakes made, own them, fix them.

The DIE religion in the CIA is not about having ethic diverse operatives. The people they are hiring would make horrible operatives. Alphabet mafia candidates are dangerous to the agency. Hiring people who look the act but are basically American in every aspect would easily be detected by native people in other countries. Also, his Democrat talking point about 100 service people were treated for brain “injuries” after the retaliation of Kassam Soleimani’s assassination, is ridiculous. I guess he would have rather seen those same service people dead instead, which is what the assassination prevented!

Jack is not a Democrat, but his CIA guest spouted a few Democrat talking points like about the 100 service people who were treated for brain “injuries” after the retaliation of Kassam Soleimani’s assassination. I guess he would have rather seen those same service people dead instead, which is what the assassination prevented!
