- Gimbal Vs Handheld - Can you tell the difference? So gimbal or handheld today, I have the ultimate gimbal vs handheld challenge. Two similar sequences one shot with my Weebill s gimbal, the other handheld. Lets get cracking handheld vs gimbal. Tell me the difference between gimbal footage vs handheld.
In today's video, I am testing your skills. It is a simple gimbal vs no gimbal challenge. The point of this video is to show you that you can get great handheld footage with the right tequeniqe. By practicing your skills with handheld, you can get gimbal-like footage. The same goes for gimbal stabilizer. You have to practice your gimbal workflow to get good smooth gimbal footage.
On today's gimbal vs handheld challenge, we are using my Weebill s and S1H. And some of the gimbal shots were harder to pull off than using just my handheld rig for the S1H.
I have one secret tool up my sleeve that makes handheld shoots as smooth as gimbal footage, but only if used properly. The Segway mini pro. This cinematic tool is fantastic for both gimbal and handheld shots. It stabilizes your movement so you wouldn't be able to tell if it was gimbal or handheld footage.

The gimbal sequence has this micro-jitter that made me hesitate a moment, but then it follows up with a vortex move, which lets the cat out of the bag; great video!
Gimbals are so overrated. I love the feeling of shooting handheld and the flexibility it gives.

I found the gimbal shots easy to recognize. Although both are great, the gimbal is extra smooth. The Segway or a one wheel are also awesome tools. The question is do you buy a gimbal or Segway first? What do you think?
It compends on what type of videos you do most. It's a hard question.

You should use a camera without any stabilization like bmpcc(without gyro) or sigma fp. The build-in stabilization of s1h is better than the Sony a7s3. So it's not fair to compare that hand held shot to the gimbal one.

The segway looks like a good tool, but then this is no longer a pure handheld vs gimbal comparison. Would you consider doing a comparison of pure handheld (with feet, no rollers) vs. gimbal?

@@PeterMakholm There was no Real-Use Comparison either. Big Segway Advertisement without showing what a gimble is better for WTIHOUT the magic support setup. The Inside of a Car shouldnt be a way to compare it.

I belive the second clip is the one with the gymbal, at 2:27 looks like you used the vortex mode...my guess

Hits9Nine yes. The S1H was in the rig and IBIS was on.

Great video, but I think you slowed down clips, so shakiness not as noticeable. The real challenge is to shoot handheld and following the person on the feet. (without slowing down the clip) Anyway loved the video! Thank you.

1st is handheld. Did you use Warp Stabalizer at all?
Yes I did, on the first clip and the rotating clip.

Using that thing with wheels is cheating. That is gimbal plus the thing. It's like drone shots vs s1h shots with rented helicopter.
