Despite the film's earnest portrayal of Singapore as some miniature version of China and its erasure of other cultures and ethnicities, the film bombed in China.

One takeaway from this interview is that Trevor Noah has so much respect for every guest, their contribution and their story. Among the interviews Jimmy did with the various hosts, he appears to have the greatest time with Trevor. I suppose it's down to Trevor's understanding of culture differences first hand, albeit he's from culture different from Asia. Good watch

There was no diverse perspective in the movie. Asians are only 2% of the population so it makes sense that they only get 2% of screen. Go whine about white and black representation in Chinese movies. If you want "diverse perspective" then watch actual movies from Bollywood and China, which isn't very diverse at all.
Wow to have an Asian comedian who acts in a movie that lays heavily into the culture and have a South African comedian as the host in an American setting from a little shop in Malawi is what the internet was made for. It's so wonderful to see how far they've both come.

@@blinksstayfresh2524 Same. I need to read it too. I was just thinking of the movie's cast; we know the mom (who died before the story begins) is Asian and we know that John Corbett who plays their dad is white. Then Margot is played by Janel Parrish (she's bi-racial, Chinese Mom/white dad) and Kitty is played by Anna Cathcart (like her character she's bi-racial, white & Asian though I'm not sure where her family is from irl besides living in Canada)... but then the star, Lara Jane, is played by Lana Condor who irl is 100% Vietnamese, adopted by white American parents. She's gorgeous and/but she looks completely Asian, not bi-racial (which is appropriate because her biological parents were both Vietnamese) but I found it confusing that they were so careful to cast bi-racial people to play Lara Jane's sisters while choosing someone who isn't bi-racial to play the lead. I assumed that the book talks about the family's background because it seems like it was a very specific choice to cast a white dad and bi-racial girls for two of the three sisters, but since i haven't read it I thought we would be told why Lara Jane has a different racial background from her sisters. So, when the movie never said anything at all (we aren't told Lara Jane was adopted, and there's nothing about her dad being someone else) I figured they just cast the best person for the part even though she looks nothing like the rest of the family... but I was still distracted for most of the movie, waiting for an explanation that never came for why she's not be-racial like her sisters.

What I really loved about the movie was that it had a great story. I told everyone and put it on Facebook too to see it. I'm definitely buying the DVD when it comes out.
The more I watch Jimmy, the more respect I have for him. He must be a fun guy to hang out with in real life. His character in Silicon Valley is so hard to watch. Totally slated depiction of Chinese Americans in IT industry, though his acting is quite good. Just unwatchable character. But these interviews show the real Jimmy, well spoken, thoughtful and fun. Arriving at a new country at 13, trying to integrate into a completely different culture, it is very hard. But he is doing well for himeself now and hopefully his parents are proud of his achievements.
Wow, that’s how I feel about wanting to eat Chinese food too! My friends think Chinese food is like fried chicken and chow Mein... I tried taking them to a childhood restaurant and they were just grossed out. It was annoying since I’m always down to eat their cultures food.
Oddly enough many young Asian millennials watched many black shows, listen to hip hop and used black slang. It's ironic cause in many Asian country hip-hop, R&B, break dancing is huge. Google B-style.

What I really loved about the movie was that it had a great story. I told everyone and put it on Facebook too to see it. I'm definitely buying the DVD when it comes out.
"Pursuing your dreams is how you become homeless." I JUST GOT THIS IN MY FORTUNE COOKIE TODAY!
Man i knew Trevor couldn't hold back on that one.. 2:50 🤣
" Look Jimmy I don't know how to tell you this properly, they are looking for a good looking guy for this role "
Jimmy O Yang is awesome! Movie going to be great!
My two favorite comedians in the same room! Best day of my life!!!
Why are your interviews so damn good, haha
I can hearing him talking all day ❤️ sounds like story telling
Trevor’s laugh 😂 is so contagious 😂😂😂😂
Jimmy is so well spoken
Wow, that’s how I feel about wanting to eat Chinese food too! My friends think Chinese food is like fried chicken and chow Mein... I tried taking them to a childhood restaurant and they were just grossed out. It was annoying since I’m always down to eat their cultures food.
Both of you are amazing!
💜🙏😎🙏💜
He's awesomely interesting

I enjoyed this interview! I gotta see the movie now.

Noah from Africa and Jimmy from Asia make a show together as Americans! This is so American!
Yes! That's diversity for you! Adds enjoyment to life.

Two wonderful people in a screen. Awesome!
I forget sometimes but comicview legit changed lives lol
Corey Holmes hell yeah it did...the 90's was a game changer for America
Oddly enough many young Asian millennials watched many black shows, listen to hip hop and used black slang. It's ironic cause in many Asian country hip-hop, R&B, break dancing is huge. Google B-style.
