Thank you for sharing this tutorial, it's very clear and helpful! Your rose looks amazing so I'm excited to watch that video 😉 I also make cakes and especially sugar flowers I love to do them, it really relaxes me!😍 And I made Stephanotis flowers for wedding cakes, but always really, really small (as do the real ones😁) but actually I like yours much better!!!😍 happy caking, Tamara
Thank you Tamara, it won't be too long now before the rose instruction is ready. I think we will have to call my flowers 'fantasy' as they really are too big for a stephanotis :0)

I am very happy I found your site as I am new to making gum paste flowers.. I would love to know if I can add alcohol to the gumpaste floral duster colors I bought or do I have to buy a certain brand? One more question please, what do you use for the "grease" on your mat? Can it be a very light Crisco shortening.. Thank you. I subscribed and gave a thumbs UP!
Hi Victoria, we are happy you found us too :) Crisco is perfect for use with the cutters and yes you can use alcohol to paint. I use ethanol known as food grade isopropyl alcohol, this 'runs ' along the embossed outlines making painting easier but vodka or gin can be used but won't 'run'. As an alternative to alcohol pure lemon extract works too. Have you seen our flower making on Sugar and Crumbs Facebook live, it is a site with great ideas.
Dove posso acquistare i cutter visti all'inizio del video? Grazie
Hello Silvia, you can get the set here: patchworkcutters.com/item/grandiflora-rose/356.
👍👌👍👍👍👍👍👍
Can I ask is this safe to insert into a cake with the tape please? Thank you
I always insert the taped handle into a food grade plastic posy pick before pushing it into the cake or you could try dipping the taped handle into Safety Seal. This is a food grade wax and is perfect for large sprays or individual flowers. This can be purchased from The Cake Decorating Company they also have a short video on how to use it, very helpful!
Thank you
Can someone help me why the flower edges come out brittle when I use calyx cutter to make these flowers please ? Thanks
Sorry for the late reply, if you are using flower paste, as you should, to make any flowers the paste will dry hard and brittle. I am not sure if you mean the edges are jagged this happens when the paste is too thick. Try rolling the flower paste thinner and always keep the paste covered preferably with a plastic bag. Hope this helps.
Please tell me do you colour the flowers and buds when they are dry or just after making them?
I usually colour when they are dry but sometimes on larger flowers I colour before softening the edges of petals and leaves and then I
leave them to dry.
Thank you for your feedback. I'm trying to replicate your Rose spray, did you colour your leaves ? Thanks again.
Hi Norja, I used a dark green flower paste then brushed along the centre with a dust colour from Edable Art called Frosted Leaf. If you can't get this colour then mix a dark green dust colour with gold dust colour to lighten it. I used a hint of lime green in the centre of the flowers and plum dust colour around the edges, if this is too dark then lighten it with a pink such as Magnolis Pearl also from Edable Art.
May I know the brand of the gumpaste you are using.
Hello Cabrina, I use Renshaw Flower & Modelling paste.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Hello, can I use clear vanilla extract to paint the flowers
Hin Perla, I often use pure lemon extract but have never used vanilla. Always worth a try :)
how long can I keep cut out shapes before applying them to a cake?
Flowers can be kept indefinitely, stored in a cardboard box, nothing air tight, and cover with tissue paper. A sachet of silica gel placed inside the box helps to absorb unwanted moisture.
Why it is beautiful.. the camera is far away..
Have you join my Patchwork Cutter Cake Club? You will see things much closer there.
can i use the craft store bought green tape?
Yes that is perfect, I place the finished stem in a posy pick before inserting it into the cake.
Where to find your tutorial on how to make the leaves. Thanks
Hi Michelle, we are working on a video now for the rose and leaves so won't be too long.
ya I also want to know
Bravissimaaa cara ma un po'di traduzione grazie mille per la tua gentilezza
Vc tem a tecnica de rosa com flexibilidade
The rose tutorial will be coming soon.
Could you please tell me how you then attach the flowers to the cake without the whole thing drooping forward. Thank you.
Push the handle of the spray into a posy pick before pushing the pick into the cake, alternatively you can make a long cone of flowerpaste hollow it out and moisten the inside with water then insert the handle of the spray. leave to dry before pushing this into the cake. I think I need to add this to the Grandiflora Rose tutorial :0)
where can we buy these cutters?
You can buy all of our cutters via our website: www.patchworkcutters.com and the Grandiflora Rose Set can be found here: bit.ly/2aDbV5e.
Your camera needs to be closer so we can get a good look at what your doing
Thanks, but the music is so Annoying.
Sorry you found it annoying Jackie, we will take this on board.
PatchworkCutters thanks, normally I would turn of music, but didn’t want to miss anything, Thanks
