Missed only one fairway and shot an 81 on Saturday which is about 5-6 strokes better than my average. It felt weird at first while at the range, but it started to come together at the course. Even getting better contact and increased my driving distance! So much more fun hitting my second shot from the short grass. Great video as usual. Also, liking the new hats!

When we hit 6:25 minute mark on the vid and Matt mentioned don't start with the hips and lead with the hands I was kinda thinking about tuning out but thankfully I kept watching and listened. It turned out this part of the lesson is about the most valuable tip I have gotten in months. Practicing these feelings has me striking more consistently and pure than I ever have. I just need to stop watching other vids for the next couple of weeks and continue focusing on these feelings until they just come naturally. Thanks for the great video.

Matt yesterday I had such a poor day at the course, I could quit. I watched this video this morning and practiced in the house. Probably took 50 swings. Today, my transition to the down swing was nearly the best it's been all year! No over the top pulls. Thank God and thank you! What a such a great champion you are for us,

Funny thing, I was noticing last week that my slower tempo swings worked better and so was trying to work out how to keep recreating these. Practise swings work well until the ball is in front of the club and it causes massive interference in the brain!!! So I was going to look for smooth downswing videos and this appeared in my subscriptions. Nice timing and well explained. Here's hoping :-)

Love these tips! Was at the range today and was hitting a variety of fats, tops, thins and some decent ones. Then worked on two things 1. Tempo (your tip about not bringing the club back too slowly). 2. Your tip about letting the arms fall first - very key!. I worked on keeping the swing (V that the arms create) longer and tighter at the top. Felt like I was doing a 3/4 swing and could feel a fair amount of tension on my left hand side in my ribs. From there it just felt like the club onwound on its own and the hips and arms worked in unison (leading to the 1-2-3 finish). Had much crisper shots and I left feeling pretty good. Can't wait to keep working on it and will remember these tips!!

Your timing of this video is impeccable. I've been working on this for the past couple weeks because I was fading the driver off the tee. Just that split-second hesitation at the top of the swing allows the club to drop into the proper swing plane. HUGE difference for me once I was able to let that club fall naturally on the downswing--straighter drives and MUCH farther down the fairway! Damn I love your videos! 👍

Scored an 85 and that’s with two doubles (not related to the tips provided here). What a difference. Felt effortless and I took my competitors $$ as well. Thanks SG and keep up the good work.

Matt. I want to thank you for this excellent tip/instruction. I don't usually watch these videos the day before a round. However I did watch it last night and with just doing the drills a few times before my round (no ball hitting) I was able to get a good feel and tempo and had one of my most consistent ball striking rounds. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

This is an absolute must watch for us that have been trying to get our timing right. I have been working all year just on my set up and swing. I have been getting closer to that smooth swing and this is one of the key parts that I think will start to pull it together.

Love you brother! Headed to the range to work on old and new video techniques. 18 holes booked for Sat. I swore for the last week I would not watch one more! But I did. I'm so screwed! 😆 I play maybe 3, 4 times a year. That explains 104 in Feb.
Just re-gripped my 31 year old McGregor irons and 18 year old custom knock off R1 woods. Thanks to your video. They look good 👍!!
So if my game sucks I promise not to curse you for bad advise since I have no chance for swing "A minimum of 100 times per your 1,2,3 step process." Just saying!
No mater how good I play, 84 best round ever, It will be a good day! I LOVE GOLF!! Keep-em coming.

Perfect timing on this video! I was just experiencing this issue last week and it's frustrating. Thanks!

Another great bit of swing advice. This sounds easy to do…but it is so hard to wait for hands to drop before using body turn to square the club face. I’ve started to do this and it’s gonna be a long road - as I’ve always used my legs first to get some power into the ball. Keep up the great content 🏌🏿‍♂️👍👍

I was with you until the hands go first part. I think of my lead knee starting toward the target, and for me it makes my hands fall. I like the 1,2,3 method and something to add to that, I’ll take my towel and put it under both arms across my chest and make a few practice swings before stepping onto the tee, over a shot etc if my timing is off. Makes me feel like my upper body is connected and gives me the ability to focus on my lead knee. Helps me get the rhythm and timing back during a round

  • @MrHasenfeffer

My trick when I get to fast at the top is to think about waiting for one second at the top of the swing. Like saying 1001 in my head. It doesn't really take one second, but it feels that way. I gave this tip to a buddy of mine and immediately he started striking the ball better. The 1,2,3 tip is a similar idea think. Going to work on the staight arm drill as I have issues keeping my width. Love the tips!

Does the width swing thought translate across all club types? I find that the extension becomes so much more important with 6 iron through 4 to get power, but it doesn’t really come into play with say a 9 iron or wedge (for me), but should it? And on the other end, is the extension really key for woods?

Also shorten the length of your backswing. Look at Finau and Rahm. Both only have a 80% shooter backswing than avg pro. Hit just as far. Study shows from shoulder down is 80% of your acceleration. I shorten my backswing, I saved 8 stroke since the change. Squeezing out another 15yd on a driver is not worth 8 strokes.

Watching Steve Stricker today and immediately linked his style with this video. Very eye opening. Took it outside with the 60 degree and like butter they were flying straight and true. Pulled a couple of them but easily adjusted my aim to suit. Thanks a million hope I can really build off of this! 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 1 2 3...

I was playing yesterday morning, and at the par 5 ninth hole I hit my shot of the day, a 3-iron from about 190 yards. The ball took off like a bullet, and just kept going and going! I was wondering if it would ever fall out of the sky! The ball eventually did, and it would up about six feet from the fringe, for an easy chip. I felt like I was standing a bit taller to the ball, and I had the ball slightly forward of the center of my stance. My swing felt languid and unrushed, and I smoked it! The club itself was a Haig Ultra forged blade from the mid 60s.
