I still have the pleasure of owing and regularly driving my 1989 325 SE 2 door in dolphin grey , no longer original in as much she now has full OEM MTech 2 body kit but she's weekly driven and parked outside ( never garaged) she's still in surprisingly good condition with minimal rust . When out and about we always get a thumbs up , or someone wanting to buy her or just a general chat. Owned for 24 years now and is a part of me but due to my age ,one day I will have to part with her , but not yet.
I had a E30 325iS which I loved. It was a South Africa only model with M3 suspension and a tuned a 2.7l straight six with about 225HP. It was a SA homologation special for the local touring car championship. It's a very rare car these days.
You are right about how cheap cars were years ago. In 2007 I bought an E30 M3 Europameister for £7,200 and sold it a year later for £7,900. I thought I'd done alright as I'd made a few hundred pounds on it.....I almost cry when I see what they fetch nowadays 😭 It was stunning in Macao Blue, 80k miles and all the tools, First Aid kit etc...and all the history including all the German history. Oh well we live and learn.....though the same thing happened with my 69 Mustang Mach 1 which I had from 2000 to 2007.
Don't be silly, things are better now. Plastic intakes are light and chea... no expensive, but still light. Hiding coolant lines beneath the head makes them less prone to leak since they don't have to be rubber and snake around the engine bay, what about when the gaskets break down you ask? Well you can still get to them easily... if you have a day spare or money burning a hole in your pocket. These are some of the benefits you'll find in most German cars now, not to mention the electrical gremlins.
@@mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm420 They used to rust everywhere, a friend of mine decided to buy an E36 M3 without inspection. It was described as missing the spare wheel, no problem right? He noticed there was a lot of road noise coming from the rear of the car on the motorway, when he stopped to fill up he found out why there was no spare wheel. The spare wheel well had rusted away after presumably being a pond for a while, the care was a write off. That's not to mention the badly fixed bonnet, sills and arches. In daylight they looked about as smooth as a rally track & crumbled in your hand. Moral of the story, there's no such thing as a fixer upper BMW from the 80's-90's.
I drove one of these for nine years. I loved it, one of the very best cars I have ever owned. The e24 6-series, e28 5-series, e30 3-series, and e34 5-series cars (mid '80s to mid '90s) made BMW's vaunted reputation, here in the US. Really, it began with the 2002, of course. I had at least one example of all the others, including e28 M5 and e24 M6. I used to say BMW engineering and design were "sophisticated simplicity". Imagine. My, how things have changed.
As a kid I wanted to show off in a corner with my 325i and parked it properly on the field directly beside the road. Like a stone tipping the water, I made it quite far. We went to the farmer to ask for help and he took all the money I had with me before he pulled the car out. - I remember it like it was yesterday. Almost 150 DM (Euro didn`t exist at this time)!!! - Great Video and Review by the way!
Owned an e30 318i and then 318is when they were 25 years old and at the bottom of the depreciation curves, amazing times for 18/19 year old! Then moved onto an E34 5.25i owned them for a total of about 5 years across the three and one of them broke down once, 5 years of running 25 year old cars and honing them round like you do at 19! Amazing cars and ignited my passion for all things 4 wheels.
I had a 1989 325i Sport with 2.7 Hartge stroked, Hartge 6 branch manifold, maf conversion with map and Schrick 288/288 cam and Scorpion exhaust. The rev limit was raised to 7200 (recommended), those engines will rev well past that but I kept it on the safe side. It sounded wonderful.
I have built a M50B32TU Stroker with M54 intake manifold. Best engine ever! Massive Torque (comparable to M60B40). Very light. With A 6 spd Gearbox and 3.05 lsd. All in my e30 convertible :-)
I drove my 1989 E30 325is from 97000m to 414000m here in the USA on the original M20 engine and then sold it to another owner who was going to drift it. Never had any issues other than standard servicing.
Ah memories, I've learned to drive on my father's red 318 E30 when it was 10 years old. He bought it for the equivalent of £2000 back in 1998. Those were the days.
This is just the best car ever. The sound is just so good if you have the right exhaust. I have driven a 99% original e30 325. Cant remember the name of the exhaust, but holy fuck, that car is the ultimate car. Its a shame that so many are being crashed or not taken care of
I fell into my 87 e30. I was given an absolute bomb by a friend, but it ran. Another friend of my traded me one in better condition over all, but with a locked up 5 speed. So we traded cars and engines, transmissions, and $700 dollars. So via some fortunate connections and some clever trades, I aquired my e30. I had to do some body work to the floors, and I have to replace a rear quarter due to a smash up (previous owner, not me lol). And the old 2.5 m20 is really burning oil and leaking. It's due for a fresh up. But I got a great deal!
beautiful car, I wish I had bought one years ago. I was a full on golf gti fan, now I can fully appreciate the e30, sadly as you say now that the values have soared. I was a passenger in a standard 325i some years ago now and I will never forget the noise it made, even at low speeds, it was all coming from the front 👍 it was amazing to be honest!. I wonder, did this example sound just like a normal 325 from within the cabin at low /parking speeds?
I had a go in my Mate's e30 one week later I owned one. It's got smashed up but I had to get another and still have it and it's still one of my favourite cars and the six pots sound so good
I had two E30s the first one I had tuned by Hartge to their H27 spec including uprated engine suspension exhaust plus a race logic switchronic gearbox, quite possibly the only car I regret selling. A few years later I bought another E30 this time kept it totally stock, sold it a couple of years later why? I am not sure. I wish now I had kept both! These E30s 325i and the 318is are just brilliant little cars, not surprised they are so sought after now and the values are shooting up.
Whata beautiful example that is.! I love cirus blau ❤ I've had 4 e30s over the years, the current one now has a 4.0 v8 under the bonnet and a 6 speed gearbox. Fantastic little drivers cars

my dad had a mint diesel one and when I was I kid and I have also been on a 325i of one of his friends which back then was the fastest car I have been on. My dad changed many cars then but I only loved the 324d, even though it wasn't fast at all it was sporty. I really love these cars, used to love BMW too, not anymore. The best looking BMW along with the M635i of the same era. Beautiful. BMW don’t make pretty cars anymore. Used to have a mint red E30 318is H288BKL. Still around?
@jayemm what was the ride quality like with KW coilovers on the back roads? It looks quite compliant on camera. Did the owner comment on whether it was set to soft / stiff etc?

Brings back memories of my 325i Motorsport, lacques silver, and 325i Motorsport convertible in macau blue. Those engines were so silky smooth right up to the red line. The E30 still looks good after so many years. The replacement model looks dated with its angular lines imo.
Wonderful review and car. Dad had an E21 323i that I totally loved in the 1980’s. Opal green, rubber boot spoiler and tiny BBS wheels. Almost a “sport” spec even though they didn’t exist. Exhaust pipe on either side and a cold start that sounded epic, damn it DUB 18Y I miss you so much 👍
Hi Jay, really been enjoying your videos recently, very high quality and the VHS old school review was marvelous. Wondering if you had ever driven a Suzuki swift sport? One of the NA ones, 125-136hp and fantastically nippy handling, rock solid suspension, a classic Japanese warm hatch.
I love my e30, i have the same Cirrus blu as a sedan(saloon). Also had the same cloth sport interior but went to grey leather..most days i regret that change...lol
the difference in sound between this six and say GMs pushrod sixes of the 70s-90s are profound! The GMs are V6s but still, the Alfa V6 sounds glorious too
Of all the cars you reviewed, i think this one is closest to my Corrado vr6. Also some modifications done, but not too loud, focussed on handling and brakes instead of power (wich you cant do a lot with, witch a vr6 engine, except forced induction wich bastically ruins it)
What a lovely example. However with ULEZ a406 around the corner, these will be an even rarer sight in London! And probably all of UK when ULEZ keeps on expanding.
everyone forgets the e30 318is which had a very similar engine to the e30 m3. a 4 cylinder, which weighed a lot less than the 6 cylinder engines that honestly didn't produce a lot of power unless one was prepared to do a lot of work to them. the little 4 cylinder was a really nice engine that you could ring the guts out on, and made the car even more of a go cart. obviously bmw thought so too because otherwise the m3 would have had the 6 cylinder
Cool, looks like my nephews, but that one is red and got a 2,8l in it. And if you wanna race that against my GTi mk1 you'd have to get yourself to Sweden 😜
Awful colour match on the rear quarter to the door, but what a fab car. I have worked on a few of them. You have to be very mindful of the rear trailing arms when tramping on in unmodified form. Dropped and stiffened a bit..delightful
This car is loved worldwide, it still has presence even when there's super cars around it
An Icon without a doubt
That's a fair call - a truly epic car

You are right with street and car size comparison. E30 and Golf I absolutely can share those streets with 180 km/h.
Sounds glorious!
The E30 3 series BMW classic shape mmm nice sounding with the 2.9 litre engine
Awesome video 👍 best BMW ever 👌 thanks for sharing
Brilliant mods on this great example - Good Review 👍👌😎
Nice jacket Jay
Nearly bought one of these years ago for £250 regret not getting it now. Lol
you would have sold it anyway
@@blarkdexture8899 possibly but these are one of my favourites of the Beemers.
the difference in sound between this six and say GMs pushrod sixes of the 70s-90s are profound! The GMs are V6s but still, the Alfa V6 sounds glorious too
What a gem!
E34s with the M20 my jam
Of all the cars you reviewed, i think this one is closest to my Corrado vr6. Also some modifications done, but not too loud, focussed on handling and brakes instead of power (wich you cant do a lot with, witch a vr6 engine, except forced induction wich bastically ruins it)
What a lovely example. However with ULEZ a406 around the corner, these will be an even rarer sight in London! And probably all of UK when ULEZ keeps on expanding.
What a beauty 👌
I love these cars I’ve always wanted to build a touring
is that piece of trim above the headlights OEM?
Old school heaven 👌
Aint bmw got much much bigger over the years!
Awsome car I love it 😊👍
Love my 325i touring.
Beautiful car, but what's with the wheels? Either the rim is too wide, or the tire is too narrow. Was that intentional?
A lovely 'lump' of an engine...!!!
everyone forgets the e30 318is which had a very similar engine to the e30 m3. a 4 cylinder, which weighed a lot less than the 6 cylinder engines that honestly didn't produce a lot of power unless one was prepared to do a lot of work to them. the little 4 cylinder was a really nice engine that you could ring the guts out on, and made the car even more of a go cart. obviously bmw thought so too because otherwise the m3 would have had the 6 cylinder
Cool, looks like my nephews, but that one is red and got a 2,8l in it. And if you wanna race that against my GTi mk1 you'd have to get yourself to Sweden 😜
Long live!!! M1, E21 ,E24 ,E34,E28,E30,E9 3.0 !!!😍😍❤️❤️
OO=[][]=OO very beautiful!!! BMW 2002 Turbo ,BMW 320I
I do love the model and I do love the color.
Nice car what size the rims 16x9 n what the tiers size
Spot. On.
hello mate is the wheels ring 16?
what a beauty
Who does this belong to? I have some questions to ask the owner 😂. Thanks and great review as always.
Awful colour match on the rear quarter to the door, but what a fab car. I have worked on a few of them. You have to be very mindful of the rear trailing arms when tramping on in unmodified form. Dropped and stiffened a bit..delightful

You should do a GTI vs 205 comparison
Awesome car....great video
Luv'um, had a few E30's.....'almost' as nice as my current Chimaera! 😉
I still have a 1990 e30 325i, I will never be rid of it, and my son says he won't, either. I hope.
Very nice thank you and thank you to the "keeper" LOVELY.
Coool video, i love e30, i have e30 4wd it is pretty good car. Only what i hate in e30 world is that so called e30 tax now days
Great vid. Really enjoyed it. Any idea of the power/torque for it now? Stock was about 170 bhp if I remember
