  • I’m a Russian immigrant in France and I became French in 2021.
It took me seven years from the day I first came to Paris to the day I got my passport in the city hall.
    I cried on that day…
It’s a bit long because I left France at some point, I had to go back to Russia and start everything all over in France. In general it takes between 4 and 5 years. So, here is everything I had to provide to obtain my nationality :
    1. And foremost, proof of stable professional situation in france. I had a solid job in consulting after my ESSEC diploma
    2. Proof of B2 French level, you can pass one of the specific exams
    3. 3 tax declarations, that's why you can hardly apply for the French passport if you only lived here for 2 years and your income isn't stable yet.
    4. Your housing situation: rent contract, electricity bills, or in my case, a bank loan for 25 years for a Parisian apartment
    5. Documents from your home country: that prove the identity of your parents and that you don’t have any criminal record
    6. Of course your ID, birth certificate and its translation
    7. I also attached a cover letter explaining why it’s so important for me to become French and how attached I am to this country
You send all these documents and if something is missing they will just send it back to you so you can reapply. If, however, you’re not eligible or something is wrong with your documents you can only reapply in 2 years.
Then you’ll get called for an interview, let me know in the comments if you want to know more about that !

CDD is hardly stable, CDI is stable

What’s the logic behind ? If you are in CDI it’s very hard for the company to fire you. Whenever you are trying to rent a place or get a bank loan , CDD is not enough for example

CDI = durée indéterminée ; CDD = durée déterminée so logically for the nationality application CDI is preferable
