    I think the bigger point on a catted vs. catless downpipe is if your in a smog state, and the smell. Also, if you wanna pop flames, go catless.

    Calling bs on the filter substituting the cold air intake. Cold air only adds 5hp max anyways but a filter isn’t helping cold air get in there and it does serve a purpose.

      With the 235i most of the intake air cooling is coming from the intercooler anyways. You're not getting as much from a CAI as you would on a naturally aspirated car. For the a FI vehicle you'd be better off with a better intercooler and/or misting system..

    K&N Filter vs aFe Dry Filter? I’m leaning towards K&N. Which do you recommend for quality and performance?

    • @FritzRamos
      @FritzRamos  3 года назад

      Both are good. It really depends on if you want an oil or dry filter. I don't thing K&N does a dry filter, that's why I went with aFe.

    • @FritzRamos
      @FritzRamos  3 года назад

      You don't need to change the intercooler when doing the charge pipe. A catless downpipe will always trigger a code you need to get the spacer or code out the o2 sensor.

  • @liammulligan3768

    Hey Fritz!
    Quick question for you, i definitely want to invest in a downpipe, however, I am very concerned about the intense gas smell that most people who have had a downpipe installed report. This car is my daily driver and I can't have it reeking all the time when I'm driving my friends/family around, so is there a specific type of downpipe that won't have that or any other remedies you know of? Thanks so much man, love all your content!

    • @BimmertechG01
      @BimmertechG01 Год назад +1

      I went with the N55 catless downpipe from VRSF, pretty solid weight reduction for whats its worth, id say at least 15lbs less than the stock catted. Sounds great and noticeably increased the power/torque with MHD stage 2. Regarding the gas smell, its definitely noticeable from behind the car while in sport mode, same goes for standing near the hood. If you have your windows up with no A/C after driving it a bit hard, you'll probably notice the scent but it's not exactly strong, with the windows up and A/C on you can't smell it at all in my experience. Do with that what you will. The scent gets stronger depending on how rich your motor is running as well, including burble tunes. I have no burble in comfort mode rn and driving normally I never notice it, A/C or not, only smell it at lights once I throw it in sport(+) and start ripping it a bit.

    Wonder what’s your game plan when it comes to passing smog?

    • @FritzRamos
      @FritzRamos  3 года назад

      For newer cars they don't put the sensor in the tailpipe, they just read the computer. Since it's coded out it might not trigger anything. Worst case scenario, just put back in the stock one

    • @DonovanColbert
      @DonovanColbert 3 года назад

      @@FritzRamos Have you had to smog yet? Is it just a matter of remapping BM3 to the stock mapping before going in to smog, then switching back to your tuned map afterwards?

    • @kylesmith9048
      @kylesmith9048 2 года назад +1

      @@DonovanColbert Whether you have a CEL fix for the O2 sensors or not, the car will not pass O2 readiness check when scanned. Changing the map won't have any effect either because you're still running the DP. Your options: 1. If you haven't already installed the DP, get your car inspected/registered (whether it's near the expiration or not) and then install the DP, you will have a full year of not having to worry about it. 2. If you have the DP installed, you'd have to swap the catted DP back onto the car, get inspected, then swap the catless DP back. 3. If you have the DP installed, you'd find a guy who does inspections, tell him the situation, and offer an 'incentive' $. I may know someone who has done #3 for the past 3 years on 2 different cars and he or she would tell you that it is the easiest option, but highly illegal. I am not responsible for what you choose to do, just letting you know what I know.

      @@kylesmith9048 Thanks for the response. I'm in Arizona - so things are not as strict here as in California. Back in the 80's in California I had a Datsun 510 with a 240z 5 speed and a Weber carb - and I had to swap out the stock carb every year (or maybe two, back then)... to get it to pass. Even then, the techs constantly complained because it had an L18 engine instead of a stock engine and a 240z tranny.
      I bought a M235i from a dealer here with an aftermarket intake and exhaust... but nothing like straight downpipes - but it passes smog fine. We have a law here that you have 1 week after purchase to get a dealer bought car smogged and if it doesn't pass, you can nullify the deal or the dealer has to fix the problems.
