    I built a pair of matching workbenches in my shop a couple of years ago entirely out of pallet wood and they have been a staple of my shop ever sense. Now, ever sense I built them I had the intention of adding a moxon style vise to one of them to help hold work pieces and today is finally that day. To match the rest of the workbench, I of coarse decided to use one of my patented pallet wood laminations. For the clamping mechanism I used pipe clamps, these are very strong, cheap, and easy to source, so they make for a great solution. The vise has about 2" of travel by just from the screw part of the pipe clamps alone which will do the majority of jobs that I need done. For anything larger, I just reach under the bench and release each pipe clamp and pull it out to where I need it. Also worth noting is the fact that on the outer edge of the bench I installed that pipe clamp in further so that I would be able to clamp work at the edge of the bench.
    Notable materials & tools used for this build:

    - Wood glue amzn.to/2K6FeuJ
    - Pipe clamps (these ones have extra tall jaws, perfect for the vise) amzn.to/2HRA0m1

    - 2-part epoxy with pumps amzn.to/2HXo0zD

      If you're not doing it already, make sure you're alternating the direction of the grain when you laminate the pieces

    • @PortersMob
      @PortersMob 6 лет назад

      I guess I'm not sure exactly what you mean. My biggest project that was also my first almost 6 years ago now was my desk, and it is 6 2x6's edge glued together. Should I have cut them into square prisms then rotated some pieces before gluing instead of using whole boards?
      Also my latest's projects was a plywood edge lamination thats about a year old now has started to cup, those rips were flipped every which way because i chose the best side and didn't want any visible patters in the strips.

    Just what i'm looking for thank you Jackman! I have a MDF bench i made in 2002 with a record 52.5 vice and a moxon with F clamps that doesn't work properly. I get pallets from work and last week i said to myself "idea build a bench and new vice from pallets...." hadn't thought of laminating them sideways like you did . I like it it's gonna have to happen . Ps i think you are absolutely crazy....and addictive , i subbed . You do nice work ,well done you!
