I can't stop laughing about the intro - "I'm staying at Nick's house... Nobody is awake yet... Let's fire up the tablesaw and compressor!"
i was thinkin that same thing, well , they're up now, so much for that, lol
I just listened to the woodworking podcast where you guys traveled to Wisconsin. You 3 really feed off each other and are entertaining to listen to. Thanks for all of the great content.
Awesome project! Beautiful, practical and simple. Thanks for this.
Thanks for the tips at the end and for the comparison between all of the vices. As usual, great video!
I love how you can swing the front jaw up and out of the way. Nice.
Thank you, I watched many videos about making vises, and this is the easiest and best one
I really need to make one of these for an interim vise. Quick and easy, love it.
You should do it! I made one for my workbench and I love it.
Jay, thanks so much for your truly great videos. As someone who has watched many RUclips instructional videos I very much appreciate your descriptions, extremely careful editing, the use of stop motion, graphics projections and, especially the "twin Jays." One of my favorite ones is where you slowed down the action to drink coffee to watch paint dry! A beautiful change of pace and very humorous. You have elevated RUclips to a very high level.
I just saw this video and wish I had known about it when I built my first workbench. I'm building another workbench here in a few months and it WILL be incorporated into that build! GREAT and INEXPENSIVE IDEA! THANK YOU!
Nick's sled is a true thing of beauty! Love that sled!!
This is something I'm going to need to add to my project lists as I build my new home shop. Simple inexpensive and functional the perfect trio.
Thank you for posting this video!!! I am in need from time to time for just such a vise on my little shop. What like about this one other than its simplicity is that I can take the front of the vise off and store it (the handles mainly) away as I have a super tiny area to work in, in my shop/shed.
This is so simple it's amazing. agreed with all you said and the idea of a swing up jaw is great. Will definitely be installing this type of bench vise on my bench. Thanks for sharing this video.
Thank you for this. I made a version that can just clamp onto the end of a bench. Your suggestions and detailed video were very helpful. I’m amazed at how much clamping power it has.
Congratulations Jay, you just convinced me to build one.
I have some 3/4" piping laying in my shop and it will work perfectly for this application.
Btw, I couldn't agree more on 1/2" vs. 3/4" pipe clamps.
1/2" has been all I've ever needed as well.
A simple, great and inexpensive vise -- and a flash of AJN Woodworking Goodness! :) It's always great to see April, Jay, and Nick together in the shop. I'll be sad when the videos have all been released. Jay and Nick are going to have to make the trip to April's shop soon! Real soon! :)
Last time i was in the shop i was thinking about a fast cheap way to make a wide clamp like this.... This is exactly what i was looking for lol. Thank you Jay and the RUclips algorithm.
Thanx man, this video was a great help in building my workbench. Keep doing what you do. You have a new fan.
I always had in mind this vise because it is very simple, so I'll make one for my new workbench. Thanks for sharing dude!
It's a great idea (obviously!) to have this dual purpose table, especially for a really small (10x12) shop! I think Im going to take one of my benches apart and do this outfeed table with a pipe clamp vise! Thanks, Jay!
Really cool idea, super useful! Thanks for sharing!
@jaybates Thanks for another great video. I have learned so much from you, Nick, Amanda, and others. This is the vise option I've been looking for and so desperately need. Keep them videos coming!
Great stuff--I remember watching your build of the first version of your vise. I like the improvements you've made over the years.
Just started using clamps for some small projects. Really like the pipe clamp setup. Thanks for the tips.
Great Idea Jay! Will certainly have many uses for this in our workshop. One to add to the shopping list 👍
I have seen your other ones, and the flip up/down is especially useful! Thanks for the tip at the end for the clamp type. For the viewers that are concerned about the clamp ends sticking out when not in use (possible big ouch but all the vices have similar), perhaps a temporary rectangular box that slots onto the bars and covers the exposed clamp ends, preventing bodily ouch syndrome.
Thank you for this considerate preventative measure, but nothing short of divine intervention can keep me from haplessly bashing myself on every conceivable piece of matter in the shop. Now that it's summer my family actually gasps in horror at the massive bruises and lacerations on my limbs. I look like I've been trying to wrangle elk.
Never would have thought about using pipe clamps to make what is essentially a quick release twin-screw vice. Awesome 👏
I don't understand how anyone can dislike good information.
As of 05/24/18, there are 39 anyones out of 5k+ everyones.
Just another Thanks! Great Job and quite valuable. You make my life easier and more enjoyable as well...You are most valuable to the craft.
Great to see you guys together.....
Built one of these just today. Turned out well and super easy and quick. Err... sorta. My fault for not making sure the pipes didn’t interfere with my dog holes. Yup. Good times. Thanks Jay!
Another great vise! Great idea about it swinging out of the way on one side.
I liked that feature too...so darned simple!
Great Job Jay excellent vise on the cheap
made some ! thx for the build. i agree on tighten down on pipe thread no quick release on working end.put a screw to keep them from rolling upside down
Thanks for all the insight. I finished my pipe clamp vise last night.
Hey Jay, I just wanted to say thanks for all the time you put in educating others. I got into word working about a month or two ago and thanks to you I'm already making pieces I can sell for hundreds of dollars. Thanks man, keep up the great work!
Pieces of "word?" :)
Bobcatt22 hey thanks for correcting my autocorrect!
When cabinet work slows down, I can hopefully make a few bucks correcting auto-correct. Thanks for the tip.
By the mere fact you have not re-edited your post to correct the word, it has now become a novelty.
Bobcatt22 job security. Your can come back and correct this again and again!
*you, you better unionize. That should've been your job, but I took it.
Genius! Love this project. I'm going to make one!
Great video. How super kind and thoughtful of you that you like to give someone something when they visit your shop. May you always have such opportunities to do so.
I think one of the best things to take away from this video is the sweetness of bringing the gift which adds to the shop. How in the heck does Jay know where Nick's tools are located - and did he bring those clamps with him?
Thanks for the last explanation. It does make a difference. (about the screw on, fixed ends
I always learn from your videos! thanks for making it available
Thx for the video! I just made a pipe clamp vise like the one you showed in your video. Works great and it is affordable! keep up the great video's!!
I flippin' love this! Thanks Jay!
Thank you for explaining and such easy way to do it. Plus it really looks great. Thank you
Great video as always Jay . Something like that will work out great on the bench i built . Thanks for sharing
Great video, exactly what I needed to add to my miter saw station! Thanks
I've got this same vice setup from a previous post from Jay. Just make sure you watch yourself around thee things. You can catch your leg or worse on them and have a heck of a bruise.
SImple but efficient and adequate solution. Nice video !!! 👍👍👍 I hope there will be more collaboration video's.
Glad I finally got to see this. I heard about it on the podcast.
thanks I needed that, I will add this to my bench this week, almost just went and spent a bunch of money for a vise
1:55 - I knew I heard you talking to yourself out there - thanks again for the vise!
Hey if you guys want to come to my shop and build a bunch of cool fixtures and jigs while I'm sleeping that's A-okay with me!
I always thought I was using my fostner bit wrong until I saw you struggling to drill out a hole like I do. :)
Jay, As always, great video and I see a "Twin screw pipe clamp style vise" in my shop in the future!
Great Ideas Jay! Thanks for sharing!
Great idea and implementation
Great video, this is exactly what I was looking for, thanks for posting this
Very good details about the difference in the two clamp styles
I will be using this idea in the next month to make my vise. Thanks for the idea!
I absolutely love my pipe clamp vise on the end of my workbench that I made after watching your video of the one you made on your Paulk Workbench.
Awesome to hear that dude. Great seeing you last month as well :)
Jay Bates what's going on with your Shop ?
Jay any suggestions for a nice wooden handle add-on or wheel?
Clever design, nice work! I'm gonna try to build it
Merci beaucoup pour votre travail.
love the vise.great job.
Great video as usual. I like the corner cut to let it rotate down. It got me thinking that maybe a leg vice combo could be added to the design. Thanks again.
Thanks for Sharing. Love what you do!
Love your videos Jay
thanks for sharing Jay. this was a nice inexpensive way to get yourself a moxon vise
What a contrast! This morning, I started off watching Rob Cosman's video on "The best woodworking vice" featuring a beautifully made, but $300 piece of woodworking holder-ness...vicety...clampering... Anyway, I've got a great deal of respect for Rob and what he does, but I don't do this for a profession and at 58, I probably never will. So, I really can't justify spending about $300 on a vice, as nice as it may be. Fast forward a few minutes and here I am watching your video and it is a great, economical bang for the buck. There's something for everyone in this maker community and I appreciate both ends of the spectrum. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Looks like I'm going shopping for some Cal-hawk bessey style pipe clamps.
Having missed your third vice build video, the takeaway for me was the idea of making the front of the vice swing away or to be removed completely. Thank you very much for that.
On makes of pipe clamps...I had purchased the "blue" brand caused I liked the look of them, but that second quick release is one more thing to go wrong as it does not always engage as I have it set up in vice like set up. The one of two of "red" from everyones favorite discount tool supply broke with limited use. The screw pin (?) broke so handle does not stay seated in its hole and just spins (if that makes sense.) Sticking with the "orange" brand for now.
Thanks for all good info and ideas.
Such a great idea!! pipe clamps are about $17 in Canada! so expensive
Awesome video! Can't wait to make one and that table!!
Really cool Jay!
Great ad vise! Thank you!
Thank you for this video , I've been wanting a vise for my bench
Thanks for sharing =) Especially how versatile these vises are =)
love the idea I'll be building this for my self very soon.
Absolutely great idea.
Love that project. Even a novice can follow and use.
i just picked a few of the Jorgensen's up the other day.depot had a sale. kool now i found a good use for em. i like how it flips up for vertical pieces that was really cool idea jay🖒💥🖒💥
Super and very good! Thank you!
One of those vids missed. There is a ton of ways. But this is like the one to go with. Hello from PR.
Simple, cheep, and effective. Thanks so much Jay.
Loving your work - great vid as usual, you even did the split-screen thing when you weren't in your own shop! Subscribed to Nick & April too! If you's are ever in northern UK give me a shout. Andy Mac
Did he asked if he could do a split screen as a guest over someone house?
A lot of good info. THANKS
I learned a lot from you...thank you very much
Awesome.. Thank You Jay... You are Amazing!
Good vid Jay... I'm sure I'll use this idea in the future. Thanks
I built one of these vises for my work table and it is fantastic. The main issue I had with mine was that the two quick releases were a pain. I found a way to release both clamps simultaneously with some steel rod ;) I can send pics if you are curious on how I did it...
Great build! Just decided what my next project would be!
you're the man, jay
I like an assistant that does not talk, only listens and acts according to instructions.
Great job I need to make one for my shop.
another good job Jay i like it
thank you Jay
Great clamps for the workbench. Like!
I'll let you build one of these in my shop on your way back home. I'm on the way. Awesome video.
great project. great video. thanks for sharing.
Whoops! You cut off the end of the video there!
Jay, you're a dude...I particularly like the part where you 'got up early' and made the vice before anyone else had arrived at the shop. This, for me, is way more important than the value of the cramp assembly. This is really 'giving'. Well done mate.
You've also got me looking at my workbench and thinking about where I can fit such a vice.
All the best.
this is awesome. i need one asap!!!
awesome saved me a lot of money thx
Cool, guess I will have to add a pair of cheap pipe clamps to the tool shopping list for today 😊
great idea for my shop
Hi Jay! It's funny to meet woodwoekunf people like yoz who are from Wisconsin. Well, I'm Gernot from Austria, Europe but my wife is from Wisconsin raised in Beloit and than moved to Washington Island, before she has met me and emigrated to Austria. Anyway yoze pipeclamp project sounds good. 👍👍
Oh, there are some spelling mistakes in my announcement😕😕🙄
