Thanks for the recap video, I have fond memories of the NG trilogy on the NES. I could only beat NG 2 thanks to the shadow clones; NG1 & 3 were damn near impossible, lol! Looking forward to the upcoming revival of the series by the makers of Blasphemous, a true return to form. Thanks for the video!🐉
My NG+DoA timeline: Arcade NG NG NG:DS NGII NG Shadow NG3:RE DoA1 DoA2 DoA3 DoA4 NGX (look up of this one) Ninja Ryūkenden NG: Ragebound The Ancient Ship of Doom The Dark Sword of Chaos OVA Ninja Ryūkenden Yaiba NGZ DoA5 DoA6 Why Yaiba there? I know people dislike Yaiba but I dont feel the need to ignore it. Yaiba game mentions the majority of Ryu's sweet and gory adventures, so this has to be after all of them. Also, I feel like the retcon of Ryu knowing Sonia was Irene in DoA Dimensions (this games tells story of the 4 DOATEC tournaments) destroyed the entire chronology. The only solutions are to ignore that retcon or assume the 2Dlogy happens between the DOATEC tournaments so Ryu can meet Sonia/Irene just once, and not two times (after NGII and then NESG1). It shouldn't be a problem since the tournaments happened in a brief period of time, likely months, and NESG2 happens a year after the first. NESG3 can be after the 4th tournament. NESG1 just before the first tournament or just after, doesn't matter. Another problem is Ryu's age: basically from Arcade to DoA we are talking about 3 years where Ryu did LOT of shit. Almost nonstop. Then 2 years from the 4th tournament to DoA6. If we assume NGX, NESG1 and NESG3 take place between DoA, even worse, in my opinion. Just too much. Ninja Gaiden X is a prequel to Ninja Ryūkenden where Jo trains Ryu. Jo is decided to fight The Jaquio so he is preparing Ryu to be the leader. In Arcade Ninja Gaiden the second player is red like Jo so we can say Ryu and Jo had their coop adventure. It's the first NG game so I leave it as the first in the timeline :)
So many battles just glossed over, I get it, the games were hard, its just nice to whip through the lore without throwing controllers lol. Good job dude! NG Black was hard but NG2 claimed WAY too many hours of my life!
Thanks! I plan on making a comprehensive video about all of the 3d games (focusing on the different versions). No boss fight will go ignored 🥷 (especially vanilla NG2, godlike game)
Thank you for the breakdown. I’m not familiar with the 3D games, but well versed with the classic ones. That being said, I heard you correct the name of Ryu’s father from Ken to Joe, which I knew. What I didn’t know was the name of the demon, as the classic game never said it. I’m curious where I can find that name within the Ninja Gaiden lore? Great video. Do you believe that the 3D games are prequels to the NES ones, or are they separate universes since the 2nd game introduced Sonia as Irene, making it impossible for Ryu and Irene to meet for the first time twice?
Glad you liked the video! The name of the Demon being "Jashin" is actually just a rough translation of how Demon can be said in Japanese (I'm fluent in the language). 3D Ninja Gaiden 2 features roughly the same demon, and it's also referred to using that word in the Japanese dub as well. Jaquio is actually just "Demon King" in Japanese as well. That being said, while it was originally stated by the developers that Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma was a prequel to the NES trilogy (Considering Jo still being alive), it doesn't seem possible considering the writing of future games. 1. As you mentioned, Both Sonia being retconned as Irene Lew and Robert T. Sturgeon's appearance in NG3:RE make their "First appearances" in the NES Trilogy a plothole. 2. Where was Walter during the events of the NGS2? Why is there only one Demon Statue now? 3. Why did Ryu ever consider becoming a father for Kanna (Dating Mizuki by proxy...?) if Irene is around and they know each other? (She is his canon love interest after all) You could argue any other additions made also become issues of course (Momiji's absence, no Eye of the Dragon etc) but that's the risk you take with ambitious prequels I suppose. Overall, I think they had the idea of a prequel with Black/Sigma, but decided to retell it in the second game, and just stuck to easter eggs for the 3rd. So no, not really prequels to me.
that's because originally, Team Ninja's NG1 was gonna be completely separate and have nothing to do with the NES trilogy but Tecmo stepped cus Marketing i guess lol
Very nice breakdown of the NG Franchise! Being such a huge fan, you made me proud. Hope to see more work from you in the future.
Thank you for the kind words! I'll be releasing more content soon while I work on a long retrospective on the NG Franchise 🫡

@ I appreciate the thorough breakdown. Keep up the great work. I have high hopes for Ragebound and am excited for it to follow the NES storyline.

My headcanon is:
NG(Arcade)
NG1
NG Dragon
NG2
NG3
NG1(NES)
NG2(NES)
NG3(NES)
Fair enough!
NG (Arcade) could take place anytime since the protag is a nameless shinobi 🥷
Hey you!!
I love how we just skip yaiba🤣🤣🤣
Itadaki basically said in many words that it wasn’t canon in an interview so...😂
