Mason saying “the downfall of this show is the dialogue” is surprising to me bc I thought the dialogue was absolutely killer. There’s at least 3 fantastic lines from every episode that stuck with me
Dialogue is not just the lines. It's the flow what they say. I would say the issue is more of an overall pace level and the dialogue isn't really helping that. There is some killer lines and it is remarkably well written on a scale level. But it flies by so fucking fast it is kind of a lot.
Cyclops’ “You’ll NEVER hurt my family again!!!!” …… before unleashing a HUGE optic blast Magneto’s “Don’t make me let you down”… And of course Rogue’s “His name was Gambit, REMEMBER IT!!!!!””……. Yes every single episode had several top notch lines :)
Their argument about the dialogue was laughable, at best, which is why they quickly veered away from it. 😂 They were more concerned about the catch phrases (which endear us to the X-Men), than what was actually communicated in the show. Their take would be akin to them saying, "I hate the Fantastic 4 dialogue because Thing always says 'it's clobberin time' & Torch yells 'flame on' before every fight. 🤣Do they complain about the Avengers' catch phrases though?
The Spider-Man show ended on the cliff hanger with Spider-Man going to find a dimensionally lost Mary Jane. In the last episode of this, presumably set after that, Peter found MJ since they get a cameo together.
Actually no. This is not entirely correct. X-Men ended in 96, this show is the next story so it is 97. But Spider-Man kept going until 98. And the Mary Jane that Peter Parker married isn't revealed to be a clone until mid season 5 which is October 97. So what we see is Peter Parker and the clone of Mary Jane. Obviously the cameo is probably just in there to be like ''It all worked out with Peter and the real Mary Jane'' in case they never do anything else with this version of Spider-Man, but if they ever want to tell that story and make a "Spider-Man 99''(they won't but that would be sick) they still could and the showrunners there could tell that story and there could be crossover with wherever the X-Men is after season 2 instead of it having to be set during this season. I really hope they do that though. That would be kinda cool. Then do Avengers 2000 with like a weird Avengers teamup with the 90s Marvel characters, designs and continuity. They won't do this, but they totally should because this show was so rad and I want this so much.
The dialogue is one of the best parts of the show (almost ripped straight from the comics, which made them so popular in the first place). They just want more "modern dialogue", which doesn't work for a show that's entitled "97" & has more of that vibe. They want the X-Men to be quippy like the MCU Avengers (which got annoying real quickly), but the X-Men has a far better dynamic & are more like a family (where the Avengers are basically just co-workers, who are only together because they have skills/powers).
So, in the finale of the OG X Men series, Professor X is dying, but with help of his space girlfriend, he’s whisked off to space to be healed. So by the time 97 rolls around, we do know he’s maybe alive, but he also could’ve died before he got to space.
21:25 to add into to that in the ff 90's cartoon(which is shares continuity with 97) there was a episode about the black panther were the black panther was T'challa who wanted revenge for his father T'chaka's death, so Marvel decide to bring T'chaka back to life just to replace T'challa for some reason.
The only thing I didn’t like about Morph is how their powers were too ambiguous. It was like the Phoenix appearance. Just a way to write the X-men out of a corner. I really liked their characterization though.

Don't pirate it. The creators worked hard to make an amazing show. If we want Disney to make more of this types of show watch it legitimately. You'll be glad you did. I can't speak for your financial situation. But even if you subscribe for a month. It's enough to watch this amazing show.
Bro I’m right there with you. I didn’t even think about the wolverine 200+ years thing. You have a point. but still, Rogue has to be atleast like 40years Magnus’ junior doesn’t she. I watched the old show and she joined really young like in her teens. I just never could get past that relationship but the show was still good.

I love you guys, but man, after watching this I can't believe you didn't catch that the whole thing was a massively queer gay trauma extravaganza. And it was so incredibly good at knowing that was what it was doing, and tying together all these different comic storylines to punch that up to 11. I mean, damn, Magnet & Mr. X literally spent most of 3 episodes reliving the time they picked each other up at a bar, stuff would happen, it would cut back to them, STILL IN THE BAR. Only now it's a VIOLATION. Only now it's them holding each other, tenderly. That was an aspect that made the 90s comics interesting and fresh, but daaaaaang. Now I'm wondering if they fired that guy when some Disney executive contracted out a cool 90s era nostalgia filler project, and they got handed a product that was queeeeeeer as shit.
If any of the rumors about DeMayo's behavior on set of the Witcher is true than no, he was fired because he's a giant asshole douchebag to everybody he works with.

It was a lot better than I expected something trading on the nostalgia of an old show.

Everytime he asks Mason what the story is he says, "c'mon mate" lol Everytime single time 😂 😂 I always look forward to that response
I'm predicting season 2 to be released in October, 2025.
October is X month! (in Roman numerals)

I like them as a character I just wish they didn’t have similar powers as Mystique.
I really liked Wolverine and the Xmen animation wasn't as good but story was Great

97 looks wayyyyy better than the original, although Pryde of the X-Men was another really well animated version even compared to the animated series.
Can't imagine paying a disney sub for just this, but it looks legit.
Just pirate it, its an absolutely phonomenal show

It's worth it. NEVER thought I would say that because I was just not expecting this show to be as strongly written and as well done as it is.
11:19 😂
I know it’s hypocritical to be grossed out by MagnetoXRogue when Wolverine is 200 years Jean’s senior. But Magnet man just came off as a groomer.

Live action isn't saved, it could be DC again. Perfectly written in animation, overproduced dog shit in live action.
We generally just need more Marvel animated stuff. DC had it too good for too long.
