Awesome review Tom (as always). Glad you were the first Bronco review to hit my RUclips feed. These Broncos are just so cool. Looked like a great time getting to drive these off-road.
Bronco looks as capable as a Wrangler but even if it is not, it is more appealing to me to own a Ford than a Jeep. The Bronco seems to be more friendly to routine and looks more modern. That competition between these two brands will make customers really happy .
Hill Country Spring rain. When I moved to Austin many years ago I delighted in riding the hill country backroads on my Norton Commando motorcycle. I was puzzled however by the 10 ft poles planted here and there on the side of the road. I soon learned that thunderstorms in the Spring dumped massive loads of water on the Hill Country soil. The red clay didn't absorb the water so a heavy rain could turn a dip in a road from a dry gully to a 7 foot deep rushing river in a matter of a half hour. Even a Bronco, a Defender, or a Wrangler with a snorkel couldn't cope with that. And nearly every year someone would be found drowned in their vehicle sitting on a dry road the day after a deluge. Ahhh, memories. As for the Bronco, I'm more a sports car and on road SUV guy but it's good to see that when Ford abandoned the entire sedan category in the US they held on to some very talented designers for vehicles like the Mustang Mach-E, the forthcoming F-150 Lightning, and the Bronco. Kudos.

I was literally thinking about OJ Simpson during this entire video, and when you actually mentioned the OJ Simpson model, I burst out laughing, great stuff. Fun fact, I used to live at the outer banks. I consider getting that model just because of that fact lol.
The Big Bronco was a good truck with room for storage and 4 people easy, this new Bronco 2 door is a rock trail machine to compete with a Wrangler, the old Bronco would whip this one at people's back seat room, storage space, and towing. The new one would whip the old one big one at rock crawler. I think more people pull a boat and hunt than rock crawl. So the old so-called OJ one was not that bad. The new one is nice. I am talking 2 doors vs 2 doors.I think they look better than the 4 doors.

Tom, How does it feel being a midwife? One of the longest gestation periods in automotive history is over and the Bronco is born. Good for Ford for offering a manual, short wheelbase 2 door as a base model that goes head to head with the base Wrangler. Ideally Toyota will be encouraged to complete a trio of affordable 4x4s by bringing something very much like the 2 door Prado to this market.
My God, it got the point where I would use dismiss Ford PR emails that had anything to do with Bronco. It's one thing to push a product that's out, but yeah, the midwife analogy is a good one. That was a loooooong birth.
@@DrivenCarReviews I just hope initial production quality matches the hype. BTW I hear it is hot in Seattle, hopefully there is a spot at the beach available.
@tom Volk you should have mentioned with the fuel economy that the Toyota Tacoma gets the same fuel economy with the same vehicle weight but with less horsepower and torque. They are both on the same frames so it is a great comparison
+1 to Tom, first one of these Bronco reviews to actually state the gas mileage. (And what disaterous gas mileage it was... I really wanted one of these, but 16mpg... I might just have to get a Maverick instead...)
Tall and boxy isn't exactly efficient, plus Tom was "driving it hard" because he was late for dinner. I had a Ford Edge Sport with the 2.7L turbo V6. On the highway, I got the EPA 22 mpg, and up to 27 mpg if I took it easy. Combined was around 18 mpg. If I had more fun with it, yeah 15 or 16 mpg. Having owned many cars, with hybrid, rotary, naturally aspirated & turbo 4s, V6s & V8, turbos & performance engines are only efficient if you don't drive "enthusiastically"
@@cadsux The FORD Maverick gets 40mpg city... That's like 2.5 times the gas mileage. So it's not like Ford doesn't have the tech to improve gas mileage. At least for some versions of the Bronco.
@@bikebudha01 As someone who has owned 2 Fords, I'm aware of that. And I agee. I'm sure Ford will offer more fuel efficient and performance options as the brand progresses. Bear in mind 40 mpg is an estimate, not real world, "I'm in a hurry!" tested.
They did so much right, but there are definitely some areas for improvement. Base model steering wheel and some other areas of the interior need massive attention (the flex in the back for the hard top connections!), trail turn assist = an easier way to rip up the trail, swaybar disconnect should be included with the sasquatch package, and you can't get the sasquatch package with the 2.3L (yet) and choosing Goodyear as a tire supplier.
Complaining about the freaking steering wheel is beyond moronic. This thing is a home run. You can absolutely get the Sasquatch package with the 4 cylinder. You're repeating an unfounded rumor that was squashed almost immediately by Ford (i.e. last summer).
Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, Range Rover Defender, Chevy Blazer, Toyota FJ Cruiser. So many good nameplates, but some brands have really dropped the ball.

Dude, the specs show basically the same rear legroom for 2&4 door, you are the first I have heard or read suggesting this and if you folded the 2 door rear seats properly the rears fold flatter than the 4 door? And the doors, Jeep has a better system, have you ever removed the doors on a Jeep, for one you have to unclip the electrical from the harness under the dash, the Bronco has a simple jamb mounted socket? I NEED what you’re smoking’! 🚬lol
Gov'ment Motors of today would not be capable of engineering anything comparable to the new Bronco. Sorry bowtie lovers, wake up..... GM has long since been low tier!
Fun fact- Ford was in such dire straights in 2006, it had to mortgage everything, including it's buildings, brand and logo to get financing to stay in business. By the time GM and Chrysler needed money, the banking collapse made it impossible to get any financing. Thus the US assistance. GM paid back all but around 10B of the 51B though in reality Uncle Sam could have made its money back directly and then some by holding the stock it had acquired as part of the financing. It sold much too early. But the US still profited. The Center of Automotive Research figures that saving GM preserved over a million jobs that resulted in 35B in tax revenue. A win for everyone, even if you don't think much of its trucks.
16 MPG average is what I expect out of the 3.5 Hey Ford stop screwing around and put a 289 V8 twin turbo in the bronco and kill the jeep with a smaller engine so that you can gloat.

I really love the styling of Bronco, but it's expected to be in the same price range as the upcoming new Mazda CX-50, which should be more refined to drive on paved roads. Hard decisions...
I hope the Mazda is a lot less. It's pretty tough to order a Bronco for less than $40K once you put decent stuff on it.
Hard decision? They are not competitive vehicles. You either want an off roader or you don't.
Found On The Road Dead and or Fix Or Repair Daily… Lolz
bye jeep!
16 mpg…no thanks
Fuel economy is a total deal breaker for me
5 minutes to remove a fender? Uh, wow.
No, about 30 seconds. Fenders and grille are all about 5 minutes each.
@@DrivenCarReviews OK, very impressive. I hope to never have to remove mine on mine...once I get it.
@@DrivenCarReviews Bet I could do it in less than 30 seconds using the edge of my garage door.
🚬lol
Ditto for the Jeep door, they are not easy to work with. The frameless on board storing Bronco doors appear to be better.
Great video but something is off about the way this dude speaks...it's like he belongs on NBC or something.
16 MPG average is what I expect out of the 3.5
Hey Ford stop screwing around and put a 289 V8 twin turbo in the bronco and kill the jeep with a smaller engine so that you can gloat.
Toyota has had trail turn assist for a couple years now on the land cruiser. Wagoner is wrong. 😑
You mean the $85k Land Cruiser that's discontinued completely after this year? Ok.
Toyota also comes standard with a really cool feature that Ford doesn't. Toyotas feature reliability and quality.
Every new bronco I’ve seen looks like a Ford Escape. It’s nothing unless it has a lift and bigger tires.
This isn't the Bronco Sport. The Bronco Sport is a Ford Escape.
