Just found it on reddit "ask me anything". "It is a concept album, like our previous two albums (Baldur and Börn Loka) but this time our protagonist is female, a girl called Þórunn Auðna. It break down into four chapters representing four periods in her life, the four seasons and four epic battles (fought in the four corners of the land, representing the four directions), where she fights to protect Iceland alongside the country's guardian spirits (the landvættir). Simple and makes sense, no?"

I don't speak any of these languages as my primary, however, I feel like they were not hard to understand the pronunciation nor the construction of words. It is amazing. Since I was very young, I was interested in learning German, Norwegian, Swedish and now I listen to this and I really want to learn it. English is not my primary language either. Luckily I am studying many languages in my school! I am becoming an English teacher for norwegians
I do not speak Icelandic, so I am probably not the best person to speak of this. However, I do speak Norwegian fluently, and out from the few words I could decipher I got the feeling that the English translation is vastly different from the actual lyrics. Anyone with more expertise who can confirm this?
+TheMachineWorker its almost 100% the thing is if you would translate it word for word you would get a pretty weird lyric for example: Reynslan æskuna rúði inn að skinni would be : the experience of youth sheared to skin the thing is many of the old Icelandic sentences are metaphors like ''rúinn inn að skinni'' you would say this if you would go to the bank and had to pay high bills and that almost completed your money for example: the bill was so high that now i am ''rúinn inn að skinni''. so it would be really hard to come up with English lyrics that are 100% but its close enough to make sense i guess. Hope this answers some of your questions :D
+TheMachineWorker I know this is old, but I still have to go on the record that Norwegian is basically Danish now since they took over Norway a few hundred years back. Icelandic is what Norwegian used to be, kinda just distilled on that island. So there are a lot of differences between the two now. But the guy above me is also correct, it isn't 100% correct anyways, but translations are never 100% correct anyways :D
I am 100% sure I've heard it somewhere before. I think it must be Ensiferum or Finntroll because those are the only folk metal bands I can remember having listened to in my life.
Týpiskir íslendingar að þurfa þýða allt til þess að ná hámarki í athyglissýkinni (enginn auðmýkt) ekki það að ég sé endilega á móti þýðingu...en þurftu þeir/hann (Snorri Kristjánsson) virkilega að reyna láta þetta ríma??? það skiptir ekki máli hvaða lag það er eða hver það er sem þýðir... það á ALLTAF eftir að skerðast við þýðingu (ar að tala um CC/textan)
ég er sammála því. það er allt í lagi að þýða þetta en ándskotinn hafi það þeit hefðu getað haft þetta í beinni þýðingu. Leaves they turned hvað í fjandanum voru þeir að hugsa? It was autum hefði haft mun meira vit í því.
Those illustrations are amazing!
They are artworks of the 4 Guardians of Iceland.
The Dragon, The Giant, The Bull, The Eagle.
They are even on our coins :D
Well, your shit is better then the coins in germany , idgaf about people on coins or the gate ...
Kolur Laxdal Well I forgot about that, went to Iceland earlier in the year. I had a great time.
Interesting info!
Its that a female warrior under the dragon? In that case, any idea about who she is?

I would love to know the stories behind these illustrations, because they are phenomenal!
They are the protectors of Iceland, the eagle, dragon, bull, giant. On all Icelandic coin. From the old icelandic sagas.
Damn,that's truly inspiring!
such a good song. Hail from Ireland!
Oh yes! I love Skalmöld!
Why does it keep translating "it was autumn" as "leaves they turned"?
This translation is supposed to match the rhythm of the song instead of being a literal translation.
it means the same thing anyway
awesome!
This is why I love Viking/Folk Metal! /,,/
I'm not disappointed in the new album.
Amazing song! (I actually enjoy it, not my neighbours though)
well atleast your neighbours are listening to good music even if they like it or not

I FRICKIN LOVE DIS SONG IM A SKÁLMÖLD FAN OF ICELAND
Ty for the info sir
This whole thing is written in alliterative verse. Is it an old Icelandic poem or folk song, or does Skálmöld just know their shit?
Snæbjörn, the bass player, writes the lyrics for Skálmöld, and quite frankly he knows the shit :)
all of there songs are written with very sticked poetic rules. they even use there lyrics for teaching in poetry in schools in iceland.
Yes
Plíís aftur skálmöld og sinfó!!!!!!!! :D
Fucking finally found it again...
Hot take
Played this on .75 speed by accident from another video, it kind of works in the beginning
So fucking epic song.
Það var haaaaaaaaust!! \m/
It was autumn?
kvaðan komu þessar myndir, var þetta unnið fyrir skálmöld eða var þetta tekið frá öðrum.
was the artistry made special for Skálmöld.?
Fucking Awesome!
This riff reminds me of something and I've been trying to place it for nearly three months. Anyone have any idea?
It reminds me a bit of Iron Maiden, I really dont know if anyone agrees?
I am 100% sure I've heard it somewhere before. I think it must be Ensiferum or Finntroll because those are the only folk metal bands I can remember having listened to in my life.
jtebasile yep i thought the same... ensiferum riff :)
I rather like this.

Týpiskir íslendingar að þurfa þýða allt til þess að ná hámarki í athyglissýkinni (enginn auðmýkt)
ekki það að ég sé endilega á móti þýðingu...en þurftu þeir/hann (Snorri Kristjánsson) virkilega að reyna láta þetta ríma???
það skiptir ekki máli hvaða lag það er eða hver það er sem þýðir... það á ALLTAF eftir að skerðast við þýðingu (ar að tala um CC/textan)

MrOkaron Why? Icelandic fits perfectly with vikingmetal. Personally I think Icelandic is the most awesome language in the world.
Jakromha I totally understand your point, but I don't really like it :D
Would've loved it if it would have been english ^^
