Very, very interesting group dynamic, but ultimately I do feel that in the interests of the survival of the group (in the wild and to instinctive extent, here) Shabani should reassert power. Might be something psychological going on, but all gorillas’ bellies should be bigger than their chest. Due to the length of their digestive tract, it needs longer to pass through got break down cellulose and get nutrients.

I've also seen videos where they would sit beside each other in a respectful way-(not many.. but they are there). Since she had Ai from a different silverback, she may not see Annie as a troop member.... Maybe she was always jealous of Shabani raising Annie when it should have been Ai's job....Who knows... @@stevemorris6790 In some things, I don't disagree with you. Kiyomasa is Nene's baby no matter what he does. Yes Nene was mean towards Annie, but Shabani kept that in check no doubt. Nene does care about Ai. Shabani does his job well to keep order, but Nene also steps in when the scolding by Shabani goes on too long...is all I was saying. I think people forget that Nene and Shabani have different parenting skills...they clash at times. Whatever happens in the troop, it works itself out, and the bottom line, order is restored. They all do love each other. Nene has grown a bit as far as her tolerance of Annie. We saw a great demonstration of the love the other day when "the problem" arose. Nene was protecting everyone, and pleaded her case to Shabani, "Ok Shabani you made your point, now please kindly calm down.". Nene has been making sure the 🔥 fire doesn't get reignited. Shabani has calmed down after Nene's pleads....is all I was saying. Both parents play a role in keeping a balance, and things work out.

They all deserve so much more than we can offer them, but then I think would they have even been born had their ancestors stayed in Africa and been hunted down by the poachers? Although, many of these zoos look like they do as good of a job as they can, so many of these Gorillas as just existing and for me there comes a time when arrogant Humans need to ask the question “ Quality vs Quantity”. We must remember Nenes eyesight us very poor. To me, it looked like Nene mistook Ai for Annie still slapping Kiyo. I believe its instinctual for a mother of a male born child, that they know they will have to protect their son from attacks as he grows. Especially from father.
I've noticed in almost every video, that Annie wants to get to know her aging grandma, and because of Nenes eyesight, she keeps everyone away. Sad. In this video, as in some others, Annies face looks sad because of the circumstances.
